On release we got 80-140 energy per raid, 1000 energy required to fuse, so 9-10 raids on average. Hopefully we'll also get a secondary source such as timed research to get a little bit to start.

Base Necrozma isn't good so it's all or nothing here

Dawn Wings is absolutely worth it, though, often being good enough to use even as a neutral attacker

Well just found out it only increases the damage of the dynamax pokemon for a small time. this is completely different from what those mushrooms are used in the main games

It's possible, but you'll likely still be very close on time. Still a risk you lose your ticket and get nothing. Duo makes it super easy though

It becomes a lot easier if it has x-scissor instead of ice beam, since x-scissor doesn't really hurt Charizard, but ice beam does a lot of dmg to it

So, after not playing for a long while, I decided to return to GO. And I am just as lost as I was back then. I just go catch, catch, catch, transfer 2* belows, and I was only lucky to get 2 legends, 1 hundo and a bunch of 3*s.

Can someone help me re-align myself, objectives-wise? I want to mainly focus on raids and generally being able to clear content to begin with (I cannot clear a 3 star raid solo ffs)

Sounds like you're thinking too big. Just catch until you find a 3* you like, or choose one you already have, and focus on them one at a time. If you can't decide which one to focus on just look at a list of best attackers by type and go from there.

Smaller objectives like "leveling this one Pokemon as far as I can" are better than "creating a team of elite attackers across multiple types so I can raid"

Looking at all my Pokemon, and Pokegenie's analysis, it seems like I can try with Ho-oh or Stoutland. Are those solid picks to start my stuff? I feel like picking Ho-oh will be a slog coz its moves suck (Steel Wing and Solar Beam? Rly?)

I personally wouldn't bother spending resources like Stardust on any normal type. They aren't useful for raids.

Ho-oh is a decent fire type if you can get it Sacred Fire via Elite TM

Honestly, starter Pokemon are good investments if youre trying to build raid teams.

They're plentiful and usually decently powerful

They have short walk cycles also so they're great choices to make your buddy too

I think once you understand and embrace the fact that Niantic doesn't care about people like you continuing to play their game, you'll be a lot happier. At this point I just assume I won't ever do a gmax raid or most shadow/elite raids. There's a bit of disappointment everytime one pops up, but not as much as if I expected to be able to do it. If they ever added remote gmax raids or something I'd be really happy about it, but since that's unlikely, I'd rather just throw all my expectations out the window.

every rank (up to rank20) only requires a set amount of wins

so by forfeiting the games you have left after winning the required amount you can lower your elo

ranks like 1->2, 2->3, 3->4 etc don't require any wins so you still rank up even if you go 0/5

The battle system to just too limited and the way stats are compressed in Go mean it'll never be more than this, no matter what changes they make.

I think we should be clear that there's a difference between grinding or playing the game and being required to take a plane trip every week for new gmax battles. Like I agree that people who refuse to grind or play the game and then complain should probably quit, but specifically for gmax, that's not the issue at all. Needing 10-20+ people in person weekly is not a requirement that just requires "playing the game" for most people. You can have the best dmax mons available at level 50 with level 3 skills and max mushrooms and you're not doing a gmax battle if you don't live near a city. This is a big issue, especially in America where cities are spread far apart in most of the country and most people live in rural or suburban areas. Complaining about that makes total sense and has nothing to do with not wanting to put in the effort or even money
