I think it’s counted as “normal” but the only way to find out is for someone to try it with their purified shiny.

xl’s are a feature that you unlock at level 31.

there are two ways to get xl’s and that is catching and trading normal candies for xl’s

100 normal candy = 1 xl

a pokémon’s cp can be upgraded using regular candies however eventually they will require xl’s

once they can’t take regular candies anymore, we call this level 40 pokemon

each time you level up, they can be leveled up again and when you’re level 40, you can get what the community calls level 50 pokemon

that just means they’ve been powered up all the way and can’t go any further

so yes, you should stack a ton of xl’s

because i think you need 256 for one level 50

The Female Water Grunt (the one saying "These waters are treacherous!") can now spawn Shadow Totodile, which means a definite inclusion for a PvP Great and/or Ultra League team.

the Shadow Gatr is 11th in Great League and 2nd in Ultra League, it's a powerhouse.

Don’t pay attention to cp. if you do, you will regret it later. I would evolve the shiny first, and then the one with best ivs.

CP is based on IVs and then levels. So at level 1, two pokemon with the same IV from the same species will have the same CP. If you level one of them up (power up with candy+stardust), you are increasing the level based on the IV. The IVs are like DNA. The levels are like age (very simplified analogy since pogo doesnt factor in other factors like a human growing does, but on a basic level, its pretty much this).
So if your pokemon from the same species has a higher IV set, but lower CP, it just means it's a lower level. And the max level is the same. So it will cost more candy in the short term to catch up to that higher cp pokemon's cp, but in the long term, the ceiling will be higher due to the IVs

So for long term, investing resources into higher IV pokemon is a good idea for efficiency and long term power. It will just cost more candies and stardust in the very short term until you catch up to the level of the higher cp pokemon.

For what it's worth IVs really are small optimizations more than anything so if it's a niche mon and you're broke the higher cp lower iv ones gonna do just fine

Ex. mewtwos base attack stat with a 0iv is 300 and with a 15iv is 315, the extra 15 isn't gonna make a world of a difference at the end of the day.

Just if you do power up low IV stuff optimizing them further later on isn't an option

If you only have 1 of the mon and it's hard to get and you want to build it, for sure just go for it. IVs only really matter when you have the choice to use one with better IVs. When deciding between one with higher cp and lower IVs or lower cp but higher IVs, I was just explaining why you'd always pick the higher IV one. If that's not an option you're facing, you can just ignore this altogether

im also aboard the ivs dont really matter train, but there are quite a lot of cases where is not worth to power up bad iv mons and just wait / save the resources

so yeah not trying to reach certain stat thresholds is more realistically disadvantageous (moreso at higher ranks), in pve unless you're trying to like solo a 5* it's unlikely the potential few seconds you're saving are gonna come into play that often

I'd still say don't power up shit shit mons but like if your 91% is 20 levels higher than your 96% who really cares which you start with

today I really struggled to beat some team rocket grunts (except the one who used 3 magicarps, wtf) and yesterday really struggled to beat Giovanni despite beating him first try weeks ago.

I think their cp increases based on your trainer level or something. I know it increases at least

So you'll be fighting cp 1000 grunts early on, but a few months in, you're fighting 7k cp grunts

So if you don't continue to grow your mons overall or gain new higher cp mons, you can struggle

It's not that bad if you just remember to use fast moves that generate energy quickly, so you can use your charged moves more often.
Also remember that the opponent pokemon stops attacking for a tiny bit whenever you switch mons or use a charged move, so use that to your advantage.
Also keep in mind typing advantages.

I do but the issue I have is that very often the move types of my pokemon don't match its type. I know all about min maxing in SV, but frankly Go is more difficult for me

Example: I have a 76 ivs garchomp that has a dragon fast move and a fire charge attack instead of ground or dragon. If I use a tm, it's random.

There is a specific pool of a few possible moves for each mon, so there isn't anything you can do except get lucky with TMs (or use an elite tm, which let's you pick)

But getting the right moves is very important in rocket encounters, raids, and pvp, because those are the gamemodes where timing matters and so do type advantage. If you have a ground mon, but it only has fire moves, it doesn't matter if the enemy is weak to ground, because you're only hitting it with fire. The mon's type is basically for defense. The moves types are the offense.
And offense IS defense in rocket encounters because they quickly pass you in cp, so you have to kill them very quickly, or they'll kill you in a few shots

The game CAN be played casually, but certain content is definitely more hardcore than others

Grunts usually cap out around 3-4k~ cp on their third mon. Only the rocket leaders go a bit higher and Giovanni has shadow legends that can reach 9k iirc?

Like I said, rocket grunt CP scales off your trainer level

At very low levels, you won't see higher than like 1.5k for the last mon

At level 50, the last mon can go above 10k

The leaders and then Giovanni are scaled even higher but use the same system

But the CP doesn't matter too much if you use the right strats. You shouldn't take more than maybe 10 hits for the entire fight if you're doing it right.

1. Switching to a different mon mid fight or using a charged attack gives you a small window of time where the enemy mon stops attacking (mons with low energy charged attacks and high energy generating fast attacks are perfect for this)

2. Type advantage lets you kill much faster and give the enemy less time to attack you. You can find type advantage charts online or if you lose a rocket battle, the team leader will tell you what that type is weak to and you can try again with a different team. A 3k cp mon with type advantage can kill 8k cp mons in a few hits of the fast attack sometimes. HP doesn't scale the same way CP does. 1k more cp can mean only 3-5 more hp sometimes, and type advantage is a damage multiplier. The problem most of the time is defense, because their attacks hit way harder at higher cp. Refer back to #1 for this.

And if you fail? You can rematch with an improved strat.

Nice that we can now use any clothing items or styles, any version, for any avatar. No need to worry about not being able to use the opposite gender's clothing items. Also, the gender doesn't matter in the new system anyway. You can change your body type and hair and stuff to make you look more feminine or masculine, but being labeled as "boy" or "girl" doesn't have any effect in this new system. As long as they continue to polish this system, I think it's definitely a good thing.

To be fair, people are choosing to make them look like that. Every in depth character customization has this. You can still make them look good. Everything that makes those ones look bad can be changed. None of it is forced on you

IIRC they just won't let you trade them to another player or send Mews into LGPE.

You can make it look good, or you can make it look bad. People are just overreacting because change is scary. Having the option to make ugly characters in character customization has always been a thing in games with in depth customization options. There are some bugs, but this is a new update and bugs will hopefully be worked out and fixed like with any other new feature.

For people who say their skin color or body/face type/shape got changed, other than from bugs, those are not real concerns since you can customize all of that. So they just havent really tried out the feature yet. Problems exist, like with some hats and masks, but some of the issues people are bringing up can be boiled down to "I didn't realize this was possible yet"

The animations for the avatars being borked is something I noticed quickly. My character looks like a skinwalker with the weird arms and baggy pants crotch. I know they’ll tweak it in the future (at least they better) but it’s off putting to look at rn

Yeah, I don't think the changes are bad, just unpolished (but whats new for Niantic and PoGO tbh). As long as they keep polishing it, I think it's a net good. Although it would probably leave a better impression if they polished it before release

Like I think most of it is a good idea in theory, and I think you can even make some good stuff currently, but I don't think anyone will dispute that it needs some serious polish
