I tried to catch pokemon every night after work for at least an hour each just to hunt for shiny venipede. Still no luck.

Poke+ is pretty good imo,

It can catch and spin stops whilst your phone is locked

Only uses red balls so you need either a large quantity of balls or some stops to walk through

About 50% catch rate but gotten quite a few shinies xp and dust passively

I have a 1100 item space and 2600/3000 storage usually

Doesn't fill up within a day so I just toss any garbage it catches
