that's a good question... honestly not sure. But what I can say (and I can speak from experience) is that judges at tournaments will not care if your date doesn't line up with a giveaway/event because almost everyone's switch that plays pokemon seriously is not date aligned

Erm. Instructions unclear. I can't verify if you obtained an invite in Gen 6. If you obtained an invite, you would be very well aware of that fact, as well, because you only get an immediate invite from a large event win.

I'm not sure of the state of online events at the time of Gen 6, as I was not playing.

You either earn enough Championship Points to receive an invite to Worlds, or win a Regionals, or you don't get an invite.
