Every last event was the biggest tournament of all time. The hobby keeps growing. But Ray Rizzo sorta washed now. And the level of skill that is now present in vgc is leagues higher than it was back in the day, anyway. 🤷

As far as consistently dominant players, you have to consider the level of variance in vgc. You can control a lot more in a fighting game than you can in Pokémon.

Yeah in Pokemon there are damage rolls, critical hits, accuracy variants and specially, bad MUs. You can’t change your team once you enter so if you run into a bad MU can be the end of your tournament run

You can’t pick a secondary like in fighting games

But skilled players still win more

Wolfey is imo the best in positioning

His positioning and defensive play in Pokemon is impressive

That’s why he’s the only player that makes perish trap teams work

VGC also is a unique game where being a top player causes you to be in circles with top players and it becomes a cycle really conducive towards getting better

Wolfey has the benefit of going over matchups with some of the best possible players in the world which immediately puts him at an advantage on top of already being more skilled

one thing to know about VGC is that there are rulesets that govern what pokemon are legal and not legal

right now - there are super powerful legendary pokemon that are legal right now that are almost a requirement to have on your team

im looking at these teams and i liike one of them and would like to try it but i feel i would really mess that up lol

unfortunately a lot of players are secretive about their EV spreads. The best way to handle that as a beginner is to go to a website like https://munchstats.com/ , type in the pokemon you want to use, and find an EV spread that looks like it fits what you want

you can also ask in here and people are likely willing/able to share what they use
