I think mostly because it was hard to justify a slot on the team over something that does its role better. If you’re playing Trick Room, just use something slower or something that hits harder. If you’re playing a balance mid-speed team, pick something with better type coverage. I really never found a team during Reg E where Metagross could fill a roll better than other pokemon
