#Meeting of the Elements

In the early hours of the morning, before the bright sun has begun to burn away the peaceful starlight, a figure makes her way to the temple. She's adorned only in her regular clothes and cloak to keep out the chill in the air. Her only vestments, the gold circlet upon her brow and gold ring in her lip, are barely shining in the last dregs of moonlight. She walks into the caves with a grimace, having enjoyed the fresh air of her daily walk.
Once she has reached her destination, the young woman drops the hood of her cloak down, showing off her aqua curls that move as if gently jostled by the tide. Quickly finding the statue of Selûne, and kneeling before the Moonmaiden.
She whispers a prayer, something she has come to do more and more often in this place.
Tiac moves towards the enterence of the temple, having conducted his daily prayers. The smell of smoke is heavy on him as he passes by the young Genasi. He stops for a few seconds, seeing her pray to Selune and he nods quitly to himself
"She ever answers your prayers?"
The young man is smiling softly towards her
The young woman raises her head, having only noticed his presence when he spoke.
"Sometimes," Ferrin muses. "Though I do like to think she's always with me." There is a small hint of bitterness to her words, but it's quickly overtaken by a curious look.
"Who do you send up a prayer to?"
Tiac's hands opens up, which produces a small flame, which he let's burn out quickly
"Kossuth. Lord of all Fire. A little less well known as the Lady Selune herself."
He takes a step forward before stopping
"I'm not disturbing you am I? I wouldn't want to interrupt any prayers"
"True, but I won't hold that against you," Ferrin teases, rising to her feet.
"No, I just finished. Am I in your way?"
Tiac shakes his head as he takes another step closer
"No, just wanted to talk. You don't see too many people in the temple here. I've had a few missions lately. I notice my body is close to calling for more permanent rest soon..."
His smile grows a bit softer
"I'd like to get to know some more people before I leave this place, if that makes sense?"
Ferrin raises a brow at the idea of needing 'permanent rest.' "Retirement around the corner for you?" She asks. She doesn't know much about the higher ranked members, but she has heard whisper about those considered 'Paragons.' And gossip as to what actually happens to them.
She looks over this man. Ferrin isn't sure what a 'Paragon' would look like, but she guesses he fits.
"Well, I'll happily stay and chat." She returns the smile. She understands the urge, wanting to make the best of a situation before duty calls.
Tiac nods as he puts his bag with religious supplies down
"One more mission and Basha will chase me out" He chuckles a bit
"Maybe not that extreme. But yeah. I have a few more personal things I'll do around here, but that would be it. I'll spend most of my time back at Emberhold Temple, leading ceremonies and doing paperwork." A small shudder goes through his spine
"When I say it like that, my body doesn't mind the dying on missions that much..."
"Hey, you'll probably still get the chance to have some fun. Get some lackies to do your paperwork," Ferrin suggests, not sure how she feels about the idea of dying on missions. She's seen a few revivals, but she definitely doesn't want to do one any time soon.
"Maybe I'll even get the chance to visit once you're gone. I'm sure my Lady will forgive my entrance into another god's space."
Tiac grins widely
"Oh, that would be the best... Okay, this might not be the best introduction to my faith, but we have sect of less... Hospitable ones. And I can tell you, you being a Water Genasi, they wouldn't be happy about that. Bunch of idiots, but it is what it is. But if you were my guest, they'd have no choice but to be polite about it. Would be the highlight of my week"
He nods slowly
"I do need to acquire some lackies yes. I never found any here, but I'm sure back at the temple... You're pretty bright aren't you?"
Ferrin gives the man a cheeky smirk.
"Well, then I will certainly make some time in my calendar for that. I'll send you a letter or something ahead of time, so you can prepare if you'd like. I am always interested in tormenting fools."
"Bright enough to not volunteer as a lacky," Ferrin muses. "I'm not the brightest, but I know better than a surprising amount of folks here."
Tiac shakes his head
"Alas, it was not meant to be, to find a fool so easily. But hey, I'll help you with any healing magic troubles, you help me with an occasional report, seems like a fair deal no?"
The wink that follows shows that Tiac is fully joking
"I haven't seen you around. Been here long?"
"Only if you're okay with it being written like I was doing it on a rocking boat," Ferrin muses, joking along with him. "But I'm sure you'll find someone eventually. I'm sure you know how many things people fall for around here."
Ferrin makes an 'eh' motion with her hand. "I've been around for a little over a year, but I have found little work. Had a few issues back home I had to deal with. Which is a pain in the ass to try to do remotely."
Tiac puts up two fingers
"A little over two here. Did you sort out the issues you had?"
He looks a bit worried
Ferrin nods. "Makes sense that you're ready to be done."
She shrugs. "As sorted out as they can be. There's always going to be something until I finally go home."
"Being here for a year but not really active... Do you still know people?"
Tiac shrugs
"There is almost nobody left from who I started with. Just the few odd ones who just stay around, never doing any actual jobs"
Ferrin shakes her head. "I've heard of a few still kicking around, but I try to avoid being in here as much as possible. So between that and not much work...no, I don't really know anyone."
"I'm sorry, it must suck to not be able to see your friends."
Tiac shrugs
"It would be different now. Last week, there was a group of Iron ranks who came back to the guild, all death. I brought them back"
He gives a quick laugh
"I have too much gold to know what to do with. Spending it on lower ranks survival isn't the worst is it?"
Ferrin shudders. "I hate to even imagine it, none the less experience it. But I'm sure they appreciated it."
Ferrin chuckles. "I can give you some suggestions for worse ways, if you'd like."
Tiac frowns a bit before chuckling as well
"Hit me with it. What would a smart person consider bad ways to spend money. I have around 50 thousand I could play around with still"
Ferrin thinks for a moment.
"Buy a ship, outfit it with a fire elemental crew, and just set fire to the ships of people you don't particularly like. I'm assuming you have some ability to keep it from getting charred to bits?"
Tiac just stops moving for a second before giggling
"So you'd suggest being a pirate... I'd think that would be more up your alley. I don't enjoy swimming all that much" He comes closer and he whispers "I kinda can... But I actually never learned how to swim"
Ferrin joins in the laughter.
"Hey, it's only pirating if you steal what's on the boats afterwards."
She puts a hand to her chest. "I am a perfectly respectful sailor, I'll have you know. I'm no criminal." She gives him a little wink. It's the truth, for the most part.
"Well I could always teach you," Ferrin whispers back. "There's ways to make sure you can breathe too, if you're worried about that."
Pointing towards his throat, he comments
"Breathing, I can handle that with magic. But the movement. My clothing gets wet, I get slow. Walking through water apparantly isn't a good way to move foward"
He gives her a quick pat on her shoulder
"Sensei, please teach me"
Ferrin chuckles.
"Walking in water is definitely not the way to go. If you want to go fast, you need to dive."
She waves her hand, motioning to both of their clothes.
"None of this is good for swimming. It's best to just have on the basics, or even just underclothes if you're bold enough. But on a mission, just ditching a few layers is good enough. And armor would be best, but that's always risky."
She thinks for a moment.
"We'd need a big body of water, the grotto doesn't really cut it."
Tiac shrugs
"I mean, I could get us fast to the sea... That's not the issue, but would you actually teach me?"
Tiac points towards his clothes
"What's the best ratio clothing no clothing to have on?"
Ferrin nods.
"If you'd like me to. The sea is where I'm most familiar, but we'd have to go on a calm day. Unless you'd like a trail by fire."
Ferrin looks over his outfit.
"Just pants and a shirt would be best. Boots too, if you're worried about stepping on something sharp."
Tiac shakes his head
"I'm not keen on a trial by fire in the water. Rather have a calm sea. You ever spend time there? In the sea I mean"
Ferrin nods.
"Back on my father's ship, I was in charge of repairs to the hull. So I was often sent out into the water to fix it from the outside without having to stop."
She smiles fondly. "I also spent plenty of slow days floating behind the ship."
Tiac makes a swinging motion with his arm
"No funny business you guys did? No looting?"
He winks at her
"Nah, I only loot on land." Ferrin jokes.
"But we can start you off with floating as well. Easier than swimming and will keep you alive in a pinch."
"Hey, if you beat me, you'd get a good amount of loot I reckon"
Tiac grins
"Don't tempt me," Ferrin teases.
Tiac seizes her up
"You seem like you could handle yourself, but if you could actually hurt me... You could ask anything you like of me"
Ferrin laughs.
"I don't think I can. Not that I would want to anyway, you seem like a very nice man."
Tiac smiles at her
"So, you had any luck lately with missions here?"
"I haven't had many, but the ones I've been on have been interesting at least," Ferrin muses.
"Any particular favorites of yours come to mind?"
"Euhm, most recently, we saved an avatar of the Negative Plane from total destruction. That was rewarding. But it depends what you mean with interesting. Traumatizing or good for your mental health? Very different things"
Tiac gives a hollow laugh
"I don't think any of these jobs are good for our mental health," Ferrin muses, with about as much humor. Maybe it was for the best she wasn't getting many of these jobs. She had time to recover.
"And I'm not gonna pretend I know what all of those words meant."
Tiac shrugs
"Small girl, huuuuge powers, went berserk. We got send to fix it."
Ferrin grimaces.
"Sounds rough, I'm not looking forward to that if I end up ranking up."
He grins a bit
"The worst were Dinosaurs. Trust me, you don't want to deal with those behemots"
"The what?" Ferrin stares at the man blankly. Whatever they are, they sound unplesant.
"Okay..." Tiac hesitates for a second
"You know lizards right?"
He sighs
"Take those, but imagine them about 500 feet tall, ready to eat you, almost immune to everything you throw at them. And you have to bring down 6 or 7 of them"
"Yeah...." Ferrin says, unsure where this conversation is going.
The water genasi's eyes pop open at the mental image. "Oh, oh no. I don't think I ever want to see any of those. They aren't common, right?" She asks, desperate.
"They aren't native to Daloon. So stay on this continent and you'll be safe."
He spreads his arms around
"Other calamities galore here, but no dinosaurs in sight"
"Oh, okay. That's good at least."
Ferrin nods, chuckling.
"Yeah, even I've encountered some...interesting things."
Tiac takes a seat on the floor
"Go on. What kind of things did you encounter?"
"For one," Ferrin starts, also taking a seat, "a weird black silhouette thing with sharp teeth. That one was an absolute pain in the ass to kill. Nearly took us out quite a few times."
"Then there was this giant oger thing. That was also a pain in the ass. Had to burn it to keep it from coming back."
"A shadow? Like, sucking your strength? Or something else entirely?"
Ferrin shakes her head. "Something else entirely. It was in our heads, reading out thoughts and projecting its own."
Tiac frowns a bit, not really know what kind of creature Ferrin is describing
"You dealt with it I assume? It didn't take of your bodies over?" He grins and winks
Ferrin nods.
"At least, I think so. Gave what was left of it to a weird merchant, so we might end up seeing something like it again."
Ferrin waggles her fingers, softly going 'boooo.'
"Yesss, I am possesssssed."
Tiac does a loftly dodge, rolling backwards
"Alas, I must strike down the villain, safe this place. Forgive me"
Ferrin clutches her chest, letting her head fall.
"I understand, do what you must."
She holds back laughter at their little game of pretend.
"You're a fun one Ferrin... Alas, I have things to write about. Noting down the coordinates of the trees we've logged at our temple is important to... somebody?"
Tiac sighs
"If you are ever in need, give me a wistle? Free rescue"
Ferrin cocks her head, not understanding why that would be important to anybody, but she's not going to argue about something she knows nothing about. "Well I wish you luck with that."
"I hope I don't have to take you up on that, but I'll keep it in mind, thank you," Ferrin says, smiling.
Tiac stands up, walking away as he slowly fades into fire
Ferrin waves goodye, before turning back to the stutue of her goddess. "Seems I'm finally making some more friends around here."
