#how to quit 💨

Hey man, having trouble with addiction? Lmk if you wanna have a chat.
And just to clear it up for me, is it ||weed||? Or nicotine or something else?
hi it’s nic and weed
You know, that combination is a killer. And its not as simple as "just stop" for most people. I have found that understanding the drug, and everything it chemically does to your body and brain can really be a good first step, how they work, how they effect you, and what withdrawls and cravings actually are.
Now, I'm speaking from part experience and part research.
You're combining two drugs that really go for your brains dopimane and reward systems, which control how you feel pleasure, enjoy things, and feel "good" generally
Let's start with nicotine
nicotine for starters, you lean in to take that familiar puff, and dopamine and norepinephrine (alertness) floods your brain, and is gone within a minute or two, leaving your brain craving for more.
Over time your brain creates its own "nicotine receptors" and tricks your brain into believing you need it. To survive, as a result, you will feel physically loose inhibition, (brain fog), your stress center becomes much more reactive in general, paying attention will feel much harder without it, and anxiety during comedowns and withdrawls is prevelant
So, now that we got a baseline, there are few routes you can take to quit, and I'd reccomended quitting nicotine first, it's significantly harder without weed than weed is without nicotine.
So let me know which sounds realistic to you,
-tapering
-stopping completely and building a plan to survive the next 2 weeks with potential nicotine replacement
And how often and what do you smoke to get nicotine?
And it's a long process, I'm here for ya and I've tried and failed many times, and known people struggling with the same, hell I had a cigar last week.
Probably tapering, idk if I would actually stop for two weeks
Alright, so what do you smoke right now? Vapes I'd assume
yea
Nicotine patches or gum were how i managed too quit with tapering/my plan
Alright. So, would either of those two be realistic for you?
Or accessible? (Anyone can buy them doesnt matter the age)
idk if gum would help, and I’ve only had zyns couple of times
Because there is a massive habit part of it. And after the first few days it's all you're really fighting
the thing is I go out almost every night with people and if I stop, I’ll get tempted a lot which is what happened last time
I would say go with nicotine gum then, so, here is what I would say for a veauge road map.
And to what you said. Try your best to avoid environments where you know people will be smoking, it makes things hell of a lot harder, and tell your friends your quitting and not to give you anything regardless of if you ask, now that thats out of the way.
Especially if you have a hard time saying no, trust me, that leads to way worse substance problems down the road.
Okay, now, here are some reccomendations, only have the gum when you really need it, or have a bad craving for it.
The second thing is to stay hydrated, it makes everything much easier, carry lots of water with you and try that before the gum. Cold water helps more
Second, magnesium can help with stress and anxiety, same for omega 3, basically, stay nourished while your brain is blaring the alarms, it thinks something is wrong physically, but remind yourself, it's all mental, and it will go away, and those reward systems will eventually feel a LOT better. Along with that, after the nicotine gum runs out, buy regular gum, it will be enough to satisfy cravings later on or minimize them for the first couple of days.
Third, stay occupied with something else, weather its school, homework, a hangout (I'd avoid it if your friends vape and will share regardless)
You won't notice the withdrawls or cravings nearly as much when your busy doing something else, or socializing.
Fourth, sleep is your best friend, and thats where your brain is doing most of the repairing.
Fifth, boredom and your mind wondering to cravings is your biggest enemy in this fight. But remember, with each day, each momment, each craving you ignore, your brain is relearning how to get that baseline up. On the first few days with no nicotine at all, you will feel worse, but each craving only lasts a maximum of 10-15 minutes, less if you ignore them and forget about them, and this timespan shortens the longer you go without,
During 1-3 days, the cravings are strong, persistent, and blaring alarms
During days 4-7, they will start to come up less often, be easier to ignore. And feel like background noise, days 7-14, they gradually go from background noise to occasional and habit tied. Days 14+ you're pretty much there, but don't take that lightly.
After around a month - 2 months you will naturally be repulsed by nicotine like you mightve been as a kid, and your brain is fully repaired from nicotine.
And hey, its not fucking easy. I was a coke addict for a long time, and I can confidently say nicotine is harder to quit than cocaine, but nowhere near impossible if you do it right.
It is a process, and if you need real world help, people will understand you, and many can relate. My principal caught me smoking in the bathroom at one point. But only offered help and support. (But Mr. "Gangbang" can suck it lmfao)
And also, use weed minimally during this time, and tapering weed is a hell of a lot easier than tapering nicotine, especially when your off nic.
So,
How does that sound overall, inital thoughts, things you don't think will work and do think will work for ya?
if I smoke in moderation would that be an option? I just don’t know if I can quit. I’ll try to do your plan, but I might fail almost immediately
No, but here is a little trick that I learned
Always tell yourself you're not quitting, just taking a break. If you do it enough your brain believes it, and the dread goes away.
Its a long process, and you have to be commited, cold turkey or tapering.
And remind yourself, that feeling you get from nicotine is what you're supposed to feel normally, and how you will feel when you quit. So you will get that feeling again, don't worry.
Your brain tricks you into thinking you will feel like this forever, so if you can, stay strong, and every day it gets slightly easier
for the first 2 weeks
Then reassess how you feel.
And relapse is part of addiction, so don't feel bad if you have a hit, but ensure you don't buy your own vape, you don't reset all your progress by having one hit, but you go back by about a day early on, and if you relapse after the first couple weeks, you go back about a week
If you really are commited to quitting. I'd ask your parents for support, it feels like shit but they will not hear "im a drug addict" they will hear "im struggling and actively trying to get better"
*and your parents or family are the type
If you have a friend who can get on board with quitting with you, who is commited, do it with them, you're never alone and this might help you feel more like it.
none of my friends are looking to quit
Well, let me know when you bought some nic gum or regular gum, or even a 0% nicotine vape or weed cart does miracles if you have access. But id avoid weed
Honestly thats okay, just make sure to tell them explicitly NOT to give you anything, and NOT to smoke around you
wait but i thought i was just avoiding nic for right now
and also I can’t seem to hold anything down if I don’t
idk if that’s an actual thing but
Well, thats also an okay way for tapering, or buying a lower % nicotine vape, or gum, which will help your body become less dependent on it, so when you do stop; cravings are less intense, seeing or thinking about vapes don't make you crave nicotine if you use gum, as much, and you will think about nicotine less often.
Most school plugs sell 5% nicotine vapes or 2%, but you can find 1% or 0.5% ones if you have a older sibling or friend who would be willing to help you out
I get it from a guy that works at the shop
Good, then ask him if he sells 1%s or 2%s, nothing higher
Or ask him for something with lower nicotine in it. But honestly, I'd get someone else to go for you because when you're standing in that shop, its real hard to get the "harder" option even though you won't feel a difference after about 2 days, and the first 2 days are just "oh, this is weaker"
"Oh, I don't get a head rush, or buzz."
And ykw, it's a lot at once, don't dive head first into quitting and doing everything, buy what you need beforehand, tell your friends you're just cutting back or just smoking weed, and when the time is right, and you feel capable after tapering.
Then switch to just weed. For the time being. But weed fucks with your head a lot more, but its also easier to quit or only use in moderation in my opinion.
Nicotine is impossible to only use in moderation. Especially if youve been addicted once. Ive seen someone quit for a months, just to have 1 hit, and I saw him with his own vape a week later, that was me lmao
even if I take a singular hit of weed my eyes get noticeably red, which is hard to cover up
Yeah, and flower is actually possible to have in moderation, but still addictive, but not nearly as addictive as carts or nic
Well, then that singular hit mightve been too long, or you might be dehydrated.
this is making it seem impossible lol
It feels impossible now, in 3 days it feels bad, 4 it feels possible, in a week it feels easy.
yea but it’s just the fact that I’ll get caught and then in trouble
My parents found my stash after 6 years of successfully covering it up and they just wanted me to get clean, and I know thats thats your end goal too.
Drugs are a shit show. Nicotine is the introduction, weed is what messes with people enough to try other things.
They didn't get mad, they did yell. But they were scared
They were scared and upset with themselves for not realising I even smoked weed.
They seemed mad at the time, but they were scared I'd become a drug addict, and they did everything they could to prevent that, and support me. Not even if obvious.
dam quitting is so hard
When they went through my room, I was initially angry as hell, but they took my supplies and that forced me to be sober for 3 days, which reminded me what normal felt like, because you will start feeling glimpses of normal within a week.
Everything thats hard in life is very rewarding.
Going to the gym is hard too
Studying is hard.
Life is really fucking hard sometimes.
But you're stronger than you realise, and it's as hard as you make it, ive seen people quit with no plan, cold turkey, went through hell for the first couple of weeks and never touched it again, every single one I ask is insanely happy they quit. The difference is day and night, it's worth the effort.
It's worth the extra time and effort to make the process smoother if you need it. Some can quit off pure willpower, some go to or are sent to rehab because they've failed to quit too many times
Some smoke their whole lives, and all of the downsides, which i mentioned at the start and I'm sure you feel physically, they live with.
They suffer for their whole lives rather than a couple weeks.
Thats the choice you have to make.
If you quit now you'll never have a craving again, if you never quit, youll have cravings forever. Your baseline will be worse, and life without nicotine will feel bleaker than it really is.
Anyhow. If you'd like I can help ya through it if you wanna @ me if ya got a question or are feeling like shit
But when you think "quitting is impossible" is the same part of you saying "just one hit" which is the same part of you that can turn into "I can't function without it"
When you quit, it's more like:
"This is difficult, but not impossible"
Then
"This is hard, but I think I'm going to be able to do this."
Then
"This isn't that hard, I'm going to quit."
Then
"This is easy, i'm almost back to normal."
Then
"I'm about back to normal, and I don't even want a vape if I was offered 100 times."
This is because your brain naturally produces more "feel good" chemicals, 24/7, and a hell of a lot less anxiety.
Its not instant, but hey, let's be real, we were warned how addictive this shit is. And lmk if you're worried about weed as much or like how much u smoke and whatcha smoke, but we'll get to that later yk?
I only say it's harder to quit than cocaine, is because unlike most drugs, it's a feeling that goes away in a second, but it's also the easiest to stay away from once you do quit.
Its an instant reward for your brain, that teaches your brain to expect it. Once your brain relearns it doesn't need it, it stops wanting it, and it stops craving it, and it starts working to help you instead of being your own enemy
Okay bye bye for now
Maybe with nic but don’t taper with weed it usually just makes things worse you should quit weed completely right away you’ll probably feel like shit for 2 weeks but after that you’ll be pretty much back to normal
