It's the same as when a new Ranked Cycle in FG starts. There are tryhards that want to reach Superstar in the first days so it's harder.
But now, in this gamemode, the tryhards are also on your team, so it balances out

I feel like whirlygig is an example of a good race map. There's the big swingy bit at the end and you can easily grief people there. There's also some parts with "rng" where you can try jumping through the middle fan at the end (i know it's possible to get through it consistently but you have to be good to do that) and this can sometimes knock back the players in first a bit

if you know how to do it and can do it consistently you (and all the other people who know how) basically guarantee the top spots

not helped by the level design being generally awful

Who's idea was it anyways to put specifically the Golden Inflatable Alien costume as one of the final rewards, they added so many other golden costumes internally around that point that could have been a better fit, not going to name names but there was a specific one that would have been a perfect 'gone full circle' final reward of sorts

It's similar to the old Crown Rank costumes, but they specifically made them purple probably to distance them from being Ranked rewards, likely were gold and white at one point but quickly changed them to purple last minute, you know it's bad when the final Crown reward literally has 'Ranked' in its internal name
