Depends on your play style. I don't think anyone can master every character, but starting out I'd recommend using a novice Pokémon (cinder, snorlax, pikachu, crustle)

So apparently all the mons that evolve at level 10 are useless in quick match cuz by that time your team is knee capped by your inability to win team fights reliably even if the xp gain is accelerated.
Even fighting at level 9 you have a huge disadvantage cuz you can't ult but they can so in most cases you win, they pop ult you lose, or you lose, they keep ult for next fight and gain time, xp, and space to build more distance.
Currently I think there are only two mons that need level 10 to unlock ult and these are gardevoir and Garchomp.
In a quick match there is less time and the leading team is more likely to snowball because they gain bigger rewards for early plays.
If you die at level 4 the enemy is level 6 or 7 by the time you are back. This is not the case in regular matches.

I heard Float Stone is kinda overrated because compared to the base movement mons have +56 movement speed is not a lot, I think Zeraora mostly moves using its dash moves. The low impact on movement speed is why X-Speed is never seen and people prefer Eject Button.
However I have no clue what to put there instead, common items are buddy barrier, score shield, focus band, some even run assault vest. I guess you need to check how easily you die and maybe put something into sustain. Or just go the other way around and go attack weight for those sweet potential +80 attack late game.

you can use hydro pump then rapid spin and then hydro pump almost immediately while your spinning

and if you get good with it you can trap them against walls for like 2 full seconds

Anyways a strategy I use is to attack at the last second, like if the opposing team has depleted most of Zapdos' HP, attack at the right moment, causing your team to have Zapdos if that's be helpful
