Strongest in my opinion is Li, the fox. Unlike the others, she doesn't need stupidly powerful buffs you get on high difficulties to kill everything easily.

She does everything related to fire. Primary skill lets you charge up and launch forward massive fireballs, while her secondary skill drops meteors down on enemies.
But her stuff is very overtuned compared to most other heroes, is the main thing.

There are a few differences. Mobile has worse graphics, is slightly behind Steam on updates (for example, it doesn't have Monke or Spiritual Assault yet), some gameplay is tweaked (Example, Bandit Hermits can randomly miss, Dark-faced Bandits will taunt after a charge to give you time to shoot, you get more ammo from ammo boxes...), unlock requirements for many things are changed, Tiger, Bunny and Turtle are all in-app purchases instead of free, but the initial game price is cheaper.
I'm sure I'm missing some things.

Melee builds also work as well.

Without an OP blessing that turns the game's difficulty into soup, it still turns everything to soup.
In fact, Spiritual Flame's blessing is probably one of the weakest hero blessings in the game, due to its low bonus numbers. Imagine if it got +1000% DMG like other heroes get, instead of only +450%.

In my opinion, I think spiritual assault is horrible for grinding essence. A lot of times you dump more in than you get back.
As for pots, personally, I don’t bother with them.
Then again, that’s just my opinion.

Elite has proven to be the best option for grinding out quick Soul Essence. Compared to Normal difficulty, normal enemies on Elite have a +10% chance of dropping Soul Essence, while elite enemies drop 14 Essence, as opposed to 10. You get the spiritual jade in assault. You can unlock more slots with essence and can unlock more perks to put in through gameplay of it.
But assault is completely separate from the main campaign

Cavalry is solid. Reasonable damage
But when you've got other options that are good, great or overpowered, solid doesn't mean as much.
Also it's got poor synergy with quite a few things, like being an average RoF and damage weapon which favors no hero's playstyle.

You can, however get that guaranteed exclusive inscription, because that works on all weapons.

Well yes, but actually no.
Recycling weapons will boost the Cudgel hit, as it's based on your held weapon (that being the pistol).
Recycling scrolls will boost the Essence Chain trigger from the Pistol Cudgel hit.
So both will benefit, but only skill damage strictly benefits the Essence Chain hit.
