- Error description:
Framerate is fine on fullscreen - in windowed on the other hand (or with Borderless Gaming) after a short timespan in clockworks from 5-30minutes, my framerate drops from 100+ to less than 1 fps. This affects the entire main monitor that Spiral Knights is on (including any window that i move onto that monitor) and it is then unplayable until I switch to fullscreen or change zones (loading screen is incredibly long but after switching zones the problem is gone for another 5-30mins). - Did it work before:
No, returning player - this happens on SK steam client and in KnightLauncher - OS/RAM/CPU:
Win11, 64GB RAM, RTX 5090, 9800x3d - Knightlauncher?
Yes, though nothing looks off in the knightlauncher.log file apart from my 144hz monitor saying "Display 0 detected max refresh rate: 112"
Using 0 mods, 4GB allocated, all other settings default - projectx.log attached
#Framerate drops from 100+ to <1 after a short amount of time in windowed (or windowed borderless)

(I could use fullscreen all the time as a fix, but then I cant shitpost on discord on the side
)
This sounds like a game bug. I'd recommend sending a bug report in game so that the devs can review your case. You can also send an e-mail to [email protected] after sending the bug report to explain it in further detail, since the projectx.log file doesn't seem to contain much info.
A few people mentioned in game bug reporting to be bugged (how ironic). If that's the case for you as well then do it all over e-mail and attach your projectx.log file there instead.
okiedokie
are SK devs fine with knowing about knightlauncher use? or should I not post that in the email/report
Actually since its just game probably i might just not say it is same on knight launcher too 🙂
Yeah you can avoid mentioning KL since you have no mods and are just using some basic jvm settings with it

Nothing you can tune in KL should give you this behavior
Although, maybe give the new recommended settings a try? Once you start KL again it should autoupdate, then go to settings -> game -> load recommended settings
even with recommended being 3gb ram? or should i just boost that to 4 anyway
eh ill try with full recommended for now and boost it later if it feels ok
thanks for the help, heres hoping it changes my experience
no worries!
i have the same issue with windowed and even with full screen (1920x1080 144hz) do i have to decrease it?
basically switch between full and windowed
and it fixes it for another 5-30mins
ah i see i did notice that
whenever you switch tabs it does the samething
