#Knight Launcher stuck in "Rebuilding" state at about 80% indefinitely

For some reason Knight Launcher cant get past the "rebuilding" stage. Also, everytime I launch it, I get hit with the ".jar file in wrong directory", however if I wait it'll boot up. I do not have the other two boot files anyway found in my Knight Launcher files. I just extracted it in my steam/steamapps/common/spiralknights, nowhere special. I downloaded Java 8 as the link took me to in the Knight Launcher GitHub, and I made all 6 Java executables added as recognized for my firewall.

I even tried uninstalling, and reinstalling Java and Knight Launcher, and restarted my computer a few times

Thanks guys,

I am also completely unable to boot it via steam now, and am getting the failed 5 attempts to "install necessary files". Even after uninstall, reinstall, verify integrity, steam exit, etc. Edit: after turning off my vpn and trying again it booted in steam and downloaded the files, got into SK, but still cant get Knight Launcher to work. Now its stuck on the "purging old files" screen

SOLVED!: This is so stupid on my part. I extracted knight launcher in my /SpiralKnights folder in steamapps. When extracting the Knight Launcher, it creates a folder which had the .jar launcher and all other files in it, this autocreated subfolder created a partially incorrect pathway. All of these files needed to be outside of that folder and just dropped into my /SpiralKnights folder. The .jar executable error was the indicator to that, but the fact it was still booting was giving me the run around. Just be sure all extracted files are not in any subfolders and are placed directly into the /SpiralKnights folder

If i open the jar. in said folder it gives me the error message you talked about

#

If i put every thing directly into the sk->content->ressources->java nothing at all happens

#

KL just doesnt launch

vagrant fjord
#

Checking rn

dim herald
#

If i double click on KL.jar nothing happens at all

vagrant fjord
#

So what I did was exactly this. Downloaded KL, extracted KL into --> Program Files (x86)/Steam/Steamapps/Common/Spiral Knights

Extract KL into your spiral knights game steam file as shown in the pathway above. BUT you MUST take ALL files out of the KnightLauncher-2.4.7 and just drop them lazily into the common/Spiral Knights like so

dim herald
#

I removed everything from the KL launcher folder like you said or maybe i didnt understand correctly?

vagrant fjord
dim herald
#

Im a boomer when it comes to computer

#

What do i need to do sorry 🤣

#

What i have rn is not right?

vagrant fjord
#

So you have everything outside your knightlauncher file and into the pathway as shown in my screenshots?

#

Everything from the extracted KL file needs to be moved out of the KL file, and into the overall "Spiral Knights" file in your steamapps/common/Spiral Knights

dim herald
#

Im on mac

vagrant fjord
#

I unfortunately have no idea how mac file formatting works. Do you have a file pathway at all that looks anything like mine? In the address bar of my image?

#

If nothing happens when you click on the .jar, then it could be your Java vm isn't downloaded or in the right spot. Make sure everything is in the same place, the spiral Knights game, your Java vm, and SL.jar

#

SL.jar is an executable program, but it'll only run if you have Java setup correctly.

dim herald
#

Java works on main game

#

I think ill start from scratch another day

#

I just cant get it to work 😭

#

Like the game runs fine with steam

#

So jvm must also work?

vagrant fjord
#

Yeah you specifically need Java 64-bit VM

dim herald
#

For game to work of for KL

vagrant fjord
#

yes

#

this is your pathway for macOS to find the spiral knights game file in steam /Users/<Your User Folder>/Library/Application Support/Steam/steamapps/common/Spiral Knights/

dim herald
#

like gamwe works just fine lol

dim herald
#

then dropped the asses from the KL folder outside the KL folder

#

assets

vagrant fjord
#

The game will run on steam no problem, but if youre trying to run it via knight launcher, you dont boot through steam, you boot through the .jar exe, itll still run on steam anyday, it doesnt mean KL will work though. Theyre seperate entities

#

is the KL.jar exe in your spiral knights game folder too?

vagrant fjord
#

and is java vm in the spiral kights game folder too?

dim herald
#

with all the other things

#

yes

vagrant fjord
#

thats exaclty where it says it ought to be

dim herald
#

ik

#

but nothing happens, if its OUTSIDE that folder, then KL laucnhes but stops rebuilding at 80%

#

if its in there, it doesnt open

vagrant fjord
#

Thats really wierd. It stops rebuilding at 80% specifically when all of the KL files in my case were not plainly dumped in the game file. But it booted everytime no matter what. I can only assume when its not booting, its somehow not talking with java vm

dim herald
#

what if i move java vm?

#

i dont know jackshit about computers xD

#

like KL.jar will launch from anywhere on my pc except this folder

vagrant fjord
#

do you have the .bat or .sh file?

#

for KL

dim herald
#

im on mac

#

those are for windo linux no?

vagrant fjord
#

oh I guess so, dont know why its called mac_linux.sh, Im on windows so have no idea about other OS

dim herald
#

ah maybe it works on mac

#

it should be somewhere in the folder?

vagrant fjord
#

its super unambigious tbh, have no idea where they are...

dim herald
#

i dont even see that file lol

vagrant fjord
#

i never did, so neither of us probably have it

dim herald
#

btw rally appreciate the help lol

vagrant fjord
#

for sure

dim herald
#

uhhh

vagrant fjord
#

yeah ive got no idea how scripts work, since it says files. I assume maybe you drop it into your devcommand. But I dont think either of these are for you on macOS

dim herald
#

hold on let me cook

#

nope didnt work

vagrant fjord
#

theres a download button on that .sh

#

Try that. Put that file in your spiral knights game folder, if it doesnt work id uninstall Java VM, and reinstall it in the SK game folder

dim herald
#

you got a link for optimal java VM?

vagrant fjord
#

My guess is that the .jar just has no way to execute (run) when in your SK game folder somehow. Because its running OUTSIDE the folder, that means either Java VM is outside your SK folder somehow, or you have java somewhere else thats booting it. But your stuck at 80% because the SL files are in the SK game file, and not where the .jar is. That being said, you can also try taking all SL launcehr files out of the SK game file, and put them wherever the .jar is actually launching from

vagrant fjord
#

Try what I just said first, if that doesnt work, then redo java download.

dim herald
#

didnt change a thing haha

vagrant fjord
#

So it booted SL then got stuck at 80%

dim herald
#

no

#

didnt boot anything xd

#

i think its what you said

#

about java booting it form outside the folder

#

thats also why it works anywhere but in the folder

vagrant fjord
#

Didnt you say you could get SL to boot at 80% if you ran SL outside the SK game folder?

dim herald
#

yes

#

but the script i jsut added didnt work

vagrant fjord
#

Ok, so we ignore the script then. So on this new fix, have you tried taking all of the SL unzipped files out of the SK game folder, and putting them exactly where you put the SL.jar, when it boots but is stuck at 80%?

dim herald
#

yes

vagrant fjord
#

And it booted and got stuck at 80% too?

dim herald
#

when i open KL.jar it opens al the other stuff

dim herald
#

hold up SL.jar is that KL.jar?

#

you mean knight launcher.jar?

vagrant fjord
#

I have no idea. Mine just says KnightLauncher and is an executable jar

#

yes

dim herald
#

yes ok htts what ive been doing

vagrant fjord
#

And you put all of the KL files from this zip, outside your game folder, when your KL.jar is also outside the game folder, and it boots but is still stuck at 80%

dim herald
#

correcto

vagrant fjord
#

So then its probably not talking to the game, but is reading all of the KL stuff. Theres def some issue with your game file not letting KL.jar run, and thats gotta be because java vm isnt in there and isnt letting KL.jar boot. But you need it all to be in there so it can talk to the rest of the game files. To answer previously, you can just type "java" or "vm" in your file directory and see what comes up, thatll search your entire PC for all locations of java. But it sounds like the issue is with your java install and it not working in your SK game file

dim herald
#

file directory is finder?

vagrant fjord
#

Unfortunately it sounds like were are having fundementally different issues, and I know nothing about macOS

#

oh yeah it should be

dim herald
#

XD

vagrant fjord
#

If the java thing doesnt work, then i'd make a new ticket and im sure one of the mods who has real experience with mac could help you lol. It could be something conceptual about the mac os system that I just dont know about

dim herald
#

ill give it a try

#

ty so much

#

genuinely you tried everything haha

#

respect man

vagrant fjord
#

Sure thing friend, wish I couldve helped you solve it lol

#

Haha yeah no problem dude, good luck for sure!

dim herald
#

ty ty 🙂

vagrant fjord
#

Sure thing 😁
