#VTube model stuttering and lagging only when tabbed into an application (OBS)

It seems the only fix I have found is capping my game FPS to 30, which is really not something I want to do
cap VTS and the game
lots of people miss the part that if you have a monitor that is >60hz that Unity programs automatically minmax the framerate
it's capped at 60 and im even running it in windowed
my game is capped at 165 meaning i have vsync on, i dont necessarily want to cap it any lower as that makes having a powerful pc and a high refresh rate monitor useless
came here to make a thread about the same thing, ive always had this issue with games where theyre more intensive gpu wise and I chalk it up to the fact the game and vtube studio are fighting like mad for frame priority
I disabled gpu priority on vtube studio to get frames on the game instead and that solved my issue for a game
playing helldivers2 with vtube studio open though causes my model to freeze, lag, and stutter as well so I spent a couple hours trying to adjust it to see how to get frames back
the only thing that worked was making the game hideously low quality
so thats why ive come here to ask for advice as well on how to best optomize my vtube studio to not fight with my games
my monitor is 144hz so I cap vtube to 60 fps and cap my games at around 90 so they fight less
That's all you can do short of upgrading the GPU then
like if you are streaming cap everything at 60 unless it's VR
(VR will give you, or people watching motion sickness if you cap it)
but since twitch and youtube don't support high frame rates, even then VR might make the audience sick if it's showing the HMD's view
All other games
cap to 60 unless it bothers you too much
if you have to take it down to 1080p or below, that usually means you need a more capable GPU
like in general any RTX xx60 GPU is more than capable for using VTS and a typical game at 1080p60
but when you have a vtuber model open, VTS will usually take about 15% of the GPU, where as 3D models can take up like 75%
on a high end GPU, eg 3090, 4080/4090, VTS usually won't hit even 8%, because the VRAM isn't being fought over. But newer games want to monopolize the GPU memory, so you will likely find that if a game runs in DX12/Vulkan, VTS might have a harder time.
my gpu is also very well and I upgraded my pc keeping in mind that it would be intensive with vtube studio open
my model is quite large so I use masks and it helped for some issues but with helldivers2 it wasnt helping much
I'll try to cap it at 60, which is a shame since I also wanted to use my >60hz but that would just have to be without a vtube model out
