#Using Live2D 5.0 with 4.2
39 messages · Page 1 of 1 (latest)
the beta has been out like 2 days so that's got to still be tested lmao
yeah i'm so stressed out because of how new the beta is jskdlfjsdlf i'm worried something is gonna break. but the new UI is so nice
I exported with these settings to Vtube Studio and I didn't get any errors, just the usual set up dialogue
so that's a good sign
Using Live2D 5.0 with 4.2
Depending on your worry, you have to analyze for yourself what risk you're willing to take with the beta. Part of it being the beta, L2D discourages people for using the beta for commissions or paid opportunities. Like any other beta or testing of programs, the whole point of testing is to find bugs before official release. So you have to make peace with any issues that may arise from using it.
And right now it is just too early to tell unless a lot of people have exported that way and reported issues with it. I haven't seen that in L2D discord or here though.
yeah definitely, I appreciate the feedback on that! I could try to keep using the 5.0 beta with 4.2 since it's a personal model, but I'll probably go back to the 4.2 editor because it's safe
If you use some of the newer features in the new beta (Like the blendshape stuff), the model will fail to import into VTS after exporting.
As Midgie said - newer features will break it.
That aside though, as long as you only use the features you had in 4.2 you're fine.
If unsure you can make a backup, try out a feature and then try to export the model - Live2D won't let you export for SDK 4.2 if you've used 5.0 features.
@strong iris @flat fractal @hollow jay I am not aware of any new features in 5.0 that would be unsupported.
As far as I'm aware, everything should be supported.
Blendshapes have been supported for a while.
< Enhanced blend shapes >
• The ability to add blend shapes to rotation deformers and parts has been added.
• Keyforms for blend shapes now allow properties such as opacity, draw order, multiply color, and screen color to be edited.
• Extended interpolation can now be used with Blend Shape parameters.```
Oooh, whoops.
Must've missed that.
Thanks Midgie

I think there are no code changes at all, I'll only have to include the new core DLL.
Hi, @humble wigeon, any ETA on VTS getting the SDK 5 support? Thank you
Samesies. Exported a 5.0 model that worked fine in Live2D viewer, but becomes unloadable in Vtubestudio
The whole thing isn't even out of Beta phase yet I'm expecting 2 - 3 weeks after whole thing is stable
If you want to use 5.0 editor at least set the SDK version on your project to 4.2
Pretty much that. Unless you use a feature that's only available for the 5.0 SDK you have no reason to not export for 4.2 which is compatible with VTS as is. I've been rigging the better part of my current model on the 5.0 beta that way with no issues.
Have you been using the beta for a while?
What's your experience so far?
I'm doing some tests on my side and nothing seems to be broken at least, from what I can tell.
I was gonna wait until the next regular release, but I might push out a quick update with just the SDK update.
I haven't tested the new 5.0 features that much so I can't really vouch how the runtime side is working, aside from odd performance problems on the Editor
I don't mind waiting for stable SDK release but it's your call
maybe if you push it to the VTS public-beta branch first that would be ideal
for the bleeding edge people to test the runtime
From my experience, the SDK beta updates have been very stable so far.
There have never been any critical issues.
So I'm not too worried about just pushing out an update.
I'll do some testing on my side before that though.
