i don't know about non-american jets, but on those such as F16s and F22s when you are firing AMRAAMS the HUD will tell you the probability of kill of your missile which depends on your altitude (dense air at low altitude will slow the missile reducing the probability of kill), weather conditions, speed of the jet firing that missile and other things. as there's no first person at the moment, for jet attack there could be this circle coming out on the screen somewhere only then a target Is locked and when we are ready to fire. if the circle Is big, the probability of kill Is high, if the circle Is small the probability of kill will be low.

the three pics i put here are from the Grinnelli F22 model for DCS and shows the circle im talking about in the middle of the HUD.

okay, It might look something like this. of course the white writing won't be there; It won't "be" at all, i put It there for understanding purposes only. so only the circle will be there where i put It and It will appear only when an enemy Is being locked by our radar, and that circle will "smoothly" increase or decrease it's dimensions depending on the prob. of kill

the prob. of kill could be calculated by looking at some factors:

  1. distance
  2. altitude
  3. speed (if we fire missile using the afterburner It will be faster, because we'll be faster using the afterburner; and missiles always stars with the same initial speed of the jet that Is firing that missile, and It will increase it's speed using it's engine unless It runs out of fuel)
  4. aspect (if the enemy aspect Is hot the prob. of kill will high as the bandit Is closing towards the missile. if the bandit Is cold the missile will struggle to hit It especially if the bandit Is maneuvering to bleed the missile energy, in other words the prob. of kill will be low

What about if it was built into the UI with the lock symbol now

Either as a size (which might be harder to read) or kind of cheat and have a somewhat fake UI that shows the hit chance percent

i love this one, of course there will be only one zoom bubble showing the circle right? i mean there won't be three zoom bubbles for a single bandit

the first one you showed Is perfect for people using zoom bubbles, now we have to figure It out how to make It works for people which uses only the radar

I can then put the regular UI stuff on it for people that want a more accurate game

It's proably never going to be fully accurate, more like war thunder than a DCS, but I think it's still good to have realistic stuff built into it where possible

maybe It should be a bit bigger and that's perfect. and for the positioning of that "virtual" HUD i think It Is all up to players, so let players choose where to place It in the UI settings

personally i will put It on the top left, so It can be bigger without causing troubles to the gameplay area or action area i don't how to call it

Yep, I like it. I'm actually thinking the left and right parts of the screen should be UI only and I don't put anyhting from the 3D world (including bubbles) over it

so even sneaking it in the top left below the pause button would work

i think we planned the prob. of kill feature well, now It needs to be implemented and that's It. it's always a pleasure to help and try to improve jet attack game

This HUD should be implemented, it looks quite cool, also eliminates the airspeed indicator on the right. Although not sure if the pitch indicators are totally necessary because pitch isn't really implemented in the game yet

one thing that i was thinking for this feature, Is that the only the jets with prob. of kill calculation should have this thing. for example an F14 or an F4 Phantom or even a Mig21 (when It will be added) won't have the prob. of kill in the HUD, instead an F22,16 etc. will have it

same, the F4 don't have the prob. of kill calculator but just as the F5, the pilot could increase the prob. of kill by shooting at the right moment. of course It needs pilot skills

here are the mockup we talked about Doc, you could switch btw mods by a buton (grey one for last picture). And maybe if you click on the display, you can zoom in a bit
