Both had pros and cons. RB updated more early on, Merc has 2 drivers Q'ing in top every race, RB doesn't. Merc took out RB's 2 races in a row and gained MASSIVELY on that.

So quite hard to judge who had been better. Upgrades coming mid-season don't always work better either.

I think in the off season RB and Honda made huge inroads on their PU. As the Merc PU was the benchmark, that makes it more difficult to find improvements. Essentially RB caught up to Merc, and is just slightly ahead at the moment.

Oh I agree they're both very close. My understanding is that merc still has the edge on output but the combined package of RB is evidently a better one this season. Although, RB's work this year was surely helped by the reg change that massively hampered the high rake concept. All of a sudden. Pure FIA - Moseley would have been proud

At the end the influence of Mercedes at Williams and Ferrari at Alfa depends on how badly financed they are, Williams and Alfa are now financially independent so they can hire which driver they want

But to me they don't feel as dependent on Merc as Aston does since Aston has besically got Mercs previous year car lately 😅 Might be wrong ofc, but that's how it feel.

But I don't mind if those teams get/stay more independent so the whole field isn't "slaves" of the bigger teams.
