2021 looks to be quite interesting especially in the midfield. I think McLaren are going to step up a notch with the Merc power unit, be right there with Aston Martin. I think Renault will pretty much stay where they are, I don’t see anything huge coming from them in the short term. Ferrari will still struggle, they won’t do much till 2022. It’ll still be Mercedes and Red Bull at the top, if Albon can deliver Mugello performances consistently.
So I’m calling it... Mercedes, Red Bull, McLaren, Racing Point (Aston Martin) Renault, Ferrari, Alfa Tauri, Alfa Romeo, Haas, Williams.

Yes Ham gave Alonso a good fight for sure at McLaren. That was Hamilton’s best decision of his life to go to Mercedes. He still won races with McLaren, they didn’t have the best car/team/etc. Then.

If you watch the poles ranking of 1950's-2019, it's quite interesting.
Schumacher only had 3 more poles than senna, whereas ham has 26 more poles than schumacher lol 😂 ham should be able to reach another 25 by the time he hangs up his helmet.
Ham could be competitive until he is 45, if he can maintain his physicality and mental fortitude.

Schumacher has more wins from way less poles.. surely that indicates his cars didn't always have the speed and his 100% commitment and racecraft made up for it? Hamilton was very fast before he got into the merc, but without that rule change he would never have got anywhere near Schumacher. And, even with a car that has been a second faster than anything else for 6 years, he is still only now about to match Schumacher. It took 7 years of total dominance for one team for him to get close, and the Ferrari Schumacher had was only that dominant for 2 out of his 5 championships.
Also Schumacher was leading the 99 championship by a race win when he broke his leg, and would have been leading 98 when Coulthard conveniently took him out while getting lapped, and all this with a lot less races per season for Schumacher to win.

I think Ricciardo hasn't been given the conditions Max has. Ricciardo has exposed max weakness numerous times when they were team mates.
Ricciardo, imo, would give ham a run for his money more than max will.
Max has the advantage though, because he has time, but then Lewis is showing time is only what you make of it and he is doing exactly that!

It’s interesting looking back at the champion winning drivers and actually seeing what made them great. Senna has his throttle blipping, Schumacher had the feel for the absolute edge, Alonso was able to get the most out of the cars he drove. Max has the killer instinct, Ricciardo is the master of late braking. So much goes into a drivers traits. You could probably make a list of 20 attributes and score drivers 1-100 on each attribute. What makes drivers great is usually having 1 or more championships, and a few very high scoring attributes that got them the championship. Having a car that is very good, and also suiting of the driver is also key. I think In the old days, the driver exploited the attributes of the car. Alonso and Renault come to mind. Nowadays, I think the cars are less dynamic in the sense that there’s not one or two attributes that a driver can exploit. For example, the Mercedes is just a good car all around. It’s not just the power, or the grip, or any specific trait that makes it better. Same with the red bull. It’s just a notch or 2 or 3 behind the Merc. Ferrari almost had it, but clearly there were issues with the PU and for some reason they decided on a different design philosophy. That’s a whole other topic.

It's fair to say ham is a combination of every driver trait you enlisted. I don't think F1 will produce one quite like ham for some years to come when he goes. The masses do not yet appreciate a walking legend but in years to come when hams not there, only then, will some fans look back and think this driver was truly remarkable.
Valterri knows he is up against it. His team mate is ferocious in the same machine. Say what you will, but sitting next to Lewis it's either you have what it takes or not!

The stats are quite revealing. Button will enjoy out scoring ham on points throughout the 3 seasons, however behind that you'll see Button was a weak driver next to Ham. Most poles and wins will show.
Rosberg imo was able to do it. We all saw how that ended. Verstappen I think has a chance, I say that because of his instinct to race but so does Lewis have that, that alone imo will not be enough. Lewis is highly intelligent
And has the far superior memory bank of experience and know how to go with it.
If push comes to shove, Lewis has the ability to pick verstappen off like he has done with every competitor he goes up against. What you are witnessing is an Lewis Era, this is his moment, golden years and it'll take something miraculous to off set that for the next 5-10 years.
