But I criticised max at the time last year at Austria for the collision with Lando, again at Hungary with Lewis, again at CoTA and Mexico. I judged him at the time for what I perceived as going too far. He's hasn't done it since that I can recall so I will hope that he too has improved and will reserve my criticism and jokes about his wheel to wheel tactics until he does it again.
In the meantime I will accept that I believe Lando has improved his race starts, just as Oscar has improved his qualify laps too 👍

I don't think Tsunoda would do great in RB right away, but he is way more experienced than Lawson and feels pretty sure he would've done better so far at least, imo.

Isn't like Lawson breezed through the other classes like some generational talent either.

And ps. I'm not saying I think Lawson won't do better in the team after some time, but imo it was an odd choice to take him ahead of Tsunade Sama.

Max is definitely really really good, but you look at the drivers that have been there and what it's done to them. Albon has been great for Williams, Ricciardo was much better out of it, Gasly has been more consistent and better out of it, Perez was better in Force India than the Red Bull, Lawson did better in the Racing Bulls than he's currently doing. There has to be something inherently different about the car that means they lose form, consistency and pace. Yuki should definitely have been ahead of Lawson though

Yeah but neither of those have had a top notch teammate otherwise either at the same time. And disagree about RIC since it looks to have been a mistake of him to leave RB.

My point is that when ppl talk about Max it's 90% talk about the car and not his skill. Tends to be worded like it's only the car. And feels like the times between all cars are alot closer nowadays so being half a sec behind can be crazy far behind in Q's, while in Perez's first season he might've been 4th on that or sth. So then it might skew people's view into thinking it's only the car when in fact it's just mostly skill, like now with rookie Liam who's never been a generational talent either from how I understand it.

But that's just a feeling I have. Haven't looked up any stats to back that up, about the times being closer.

I get where you're coming from entirely. My point wasn't about the skill gap, it was more asking the question about whether while Max is at Red Bull, will anyone else be able to cope with how the car is developed? Interestingly I've just seen a clip of Horner talking about following a certain development path because it's what Max favours so it certainly shows that the car is built for Max and anyone that has a different style will struggle in it.

But at the same time all drivers have quite alot to say about the setup and how they want the car. If the car is so one sided that anyone with a different style would struggle that much, without any hope of getting their settings right, why have they then hired several drivers in a row that can't? Shouldn't they had put in ground work to find his nearest copy? I'm sure they would've. I think the biggest issue is that they've hired mediocre drivers.

Isn't like any of the ones after RIC left (on his own behalf) have lit up the grid after and got big seats.

As mentioned in my first comment, the graph was made before the race. They base their calculations on Free practice, and in this case probably also the Sprint

That being said, they were in fact wrong as per the picture I found here

Also to be noted that Alonso wasn’t really able to race and didn’t show his pace… which could’ve brought Aston Martin a bit lower depending if he could’ve raced better than Stroll

He wouldn't be 😎 I've never been too positive towards him but putting Lawson in that car was super weird. I also think his biggest hurdle in RB's eyes was his maturity. But he showed alot of maturity now when he didn't get that seat and I think they appreciated that.

Looking at everyone over the years who has been in that second seat and failed shows it’s not a driver issue. It’s a car designed for Max who is one of the greatest drivers ever.

I struggle to judge Albon since his teammates have been Latifi and Sargeant. Sainz so far is too soon. But Sainz has never really been a big name either.

And also, was Albon really THAT bad in RB? Struggle to remember. I just remember HAM took him out twice when he would've got a podium 😅

I thought Albon was ok in RB he just needed more time. He was in Toro Rosso for half a season and then thrown to RB. In the interviews I’ve seen him speak about that time, he said he wasn’t ready but had to take the opportunity.
