It took couple of months for Ferrari and McLaren to get close to the pace of RB (and we might not even know the true pace of the RB as they were definitely chilling). A more likely scenario for next year would be RB smashing it in the first half of the season, then stopping with development in the summer, rest of the field catching up (somewhat) and then rinse and repeat 😄

Even in the last race - Max was ~18-20 seconds in front in the end. That's still a massive difference and that's against teams that were fighting for every point out there and giving it all

I struggle to believe only RB has built their car around one driver while the rest of the teams try to be equal to both drivers.

I think the truth is somewhere in between, and that it's more complex in how they weigh it between building a car just for one driver and how much both drivers themselves can effect changes and performance on a car etc.

For example Checo struggled in McLaren as well and lasted 1 season there I think. So maybe if he was a better driver, or was better suited for a top car like RB, then noone probably would had said that car was built around Max.

Yeah I don’t buy the car was built around Max idea… at least not completely… drivers give their feedback on the cars constantly. The cars are not limited to run the exact same setups in a team. There is room to tweak the cars. However each chassis has inherent characteristics that setup can only change so much. Max likes a really pointy car which some drivers don’t like.

From that pov, I see the likes of someone like Tsunoda pairing on the main team, a good option (= no pressure at all). Sooner or later, the moment they see he can deliver the least of the results, they can intregate him in that car. To be honest, I actually felt some sympathy towards Team Mercedes back when it started in 2010 with Ross Brawn, Schumacher, and Rosberg (Nico). I think up to what happened with the Pirelli 'tyre war' (Mercedes was at the back of the top 4 teams regards getting the best performance from them -Lotus, RedBull, Ferrari-) and the mid-season tyre specifications change after the Silverstone tyreblows, where it definitely changed the whole balance. I didn't like that, and how it was all managed.

After that, someone called Toto came in, and I think it's a good part of why it does not get that support (?) or sympathy. Just back in the time like Schumacher (with his double peaks against Hill, and then Villeneuve) didn't get that support (but just the other way round) or with the likes of Briatore, who I never quite liked...

Back in 2013 it was not just Mercedes, but Hamilton too, pushing towards that whole tyre change due to 'safety' issues (which was far from being the issue).

In my opinion, and in my case, I think it is because of all what has happened since 2012 season and onwards. Though it's not hate 🙃 just a lack of sympathy in that sense.

You're not wrong. Problems with team-brand loyalty are going to begin to crop up with teams like Stake F1 Kick Sauber as well as Visa RB CashApp because non-team brands are beginning to dominate their entire persona.

Liveries make them noticeable and identifiable. If most of them are black/carbon with little details of team colours it will become hard to identify who is who
