In terms of a slump, he’s never recovered from not getting his 8th title and Mercedes just haven’t got the car right since regs were changed.

Though I just wonder how will he be going to end, I expect him to recover & come back mentally from where he is & feels now, just if the starts to get again back to back good & improving results... but he may end up like Vettel (or other past F1 drivers) too ... He's still in his 2nd year since he lost that championship, so... not yet late to come back from where he is... Just think of the drainage 😅😞 that means to be in a team like Ferrari... 4 full years of pushing like mad (psychologically) and end like that... Hamilton is still on time to come back. I think. But he has to. If not, it will be hard to get out from that negative spiral.

I wouldn't say Lewis is in a negative slump, he's been way more positive than George has been. He's been honest about the situation and where Merc are with their pace and you can see he's still getting as much out the car as possible. Yesterday mistakes were made by and it was a bad day. He's still got the fight and the pace needed, just needs a car capable of doing it.

I wouldn’t say so. We had Rosberg vs Hamilton first 3 years and it was a lot of it. Midfield had tons of actions only difference is the midfield was nowhere near the mercs, 2018 where was up there. 2019 Ferrari was also up there, RB closing and more midfield fight. 2021 we know what happened there. And atleast Bottas tried really hard to fight Hamilton sometimes. For me Perez is an Sainz 2.0 they don’t know how to attack only how to defend. Perfect nr.2 driver in my eyes. The point is before yes no one was near Mercedes but we saw actions and I will say a lot more wheel to wheel. Atm we see more races of almost nothing.

Agree to disagree on that. I don’t have any salt to add into the mix, I just didn’t enjoy the race. The same as the majority of races this season. I also haven’t enjoyed F1 most seasons when there’s been one dominant team that far in front of the rest but don’t remember it being quite to this extent.

Fights and overtakes non-stop. Fight for the win and the winner coming from P9 (Alonso brilliant over the radio as a nice easter egg 😆) If that's not a good race it sounds like people thinking that should take a break from F1 or stop watching it.

And Merc's dominance was worse than RB's. For many years. RB basically need to start lapping P5 and do it for 7 years for it to be that bad.

Having an opinion on something doesn’t mean I’ve said I’ll stop watching. As I said, and this applies to Ferrari and Merc dominance of yesteryear, I haven’t enjoyed those seasons as much and the gap seems to be pretty big this early in the season - maybe the wind tunnel reduction brings that back as the season progresses, we’ll see.

Even Christian was surprised with the rest of the field and how they’ve fallen back in an interview I saw.

I thought a lot of the overtakes were down to how qualy panned out and there were a few decent battles but nothing that really got me excited.

Hmm, I wouldn't have said there were constant "battles". Some groups of cars were close but as for overtakes, there weren't any that took skill except Max's double and the racing wasn't that exciting. It wasn't like drivers were regularly swapping positions. Better than Baku? Yes. Would it be one to watch to get people interested/excited? No.

Plus it was predictable Max would come through and get 1st or 2nd and it was pretty obvious from about lap 35 that he would get 1st which took any drama out of it

I disagree tho since I hought there were battles and overtakes all over and enjoyed almost every second of that race! But for some there need to be mayhem with crashes it seems and it's immediately boring when Max does well.

Max was in a league of his own this weekend. And he did it with a worse tyre strategy. Even tho it felt quite early he would win, we always had that suspense on where he would come out after his stop, and we had an actual fight for the win. That's not sth we can take for granted in F1.

“Beaten” is a bit harsh given that last year for half the year they weren’t doing the same tasks as Lewis experimented to help develop the car so Russel could focus on getting used to a new team. This year will be a better idea over the duration but it’s too soon to say who is outright better

You’re right, he isn’t, which is why he’s still checking out other cars and providing all the feedback he can to push the team. I think because he was reluctant to move from McLaren he won’t leave Mercedes. Lewis is a mercenary on the track but Alonso is ruthless on and off the track, he’ll sniff out a new team and opportunity annually if he could move up 😂
I think for RB, they have such an efficient and dominant car right now that they’ll be clawed back a bit and Horner admitted he feels it’ll be the end of the season where they might feel it as others can develop more than them

Kind of like 2009 when Brawn started strong but Redbull came back, but I reckon Redbull will be able to hold onto their advantage for longer, but not the whole season
