Build number: 0.99.5
Priority: Low
Description: This was the case in 0.99.2
Reproduction steps: 1. Plant some seeds in the Main Hab/HQ Incubator/Shelf, and then plant the exact same seeds in the Greenhouse (Food) Incubator/Shelf
2. Observe the growth over an hour
3. The Growth in the greenhouse is way slower than in the Workshop. For example a 78.56% Speed boost beet grows around 11.8%/hour in the Workshop and around 1.5%/hour in the greenhouse, with full nitrogen and all
#Greenhouse growth is too slow

I will say it's possible I'm missing a mechanic. Even though all my rooms have no doors between them, I have two warehouses, one with 5 shelves and 3 incubators (this is the really fast room) going around 11-8%/hour and one with 2 shelves and 1 incubator going around 3%/hour
If I recall correctly, they withered slower too.
Yes, I noticed it from the begining of my playtests, plants always were growing slower in greenhouse, faster in workshop. Nice you checked the exact % 😁
In 0.99.2, yes they withered slower. I used that twice during my unexpected power outages to save my seeds' stats 😛 I assume it's still the case in 0.99.5, just haven't officially tested it.
This is still true in 0.99.9.3. Plants take more than twice as long to grow in the greenhouse (even with ample fertilizer) than in the workshop. This seems counter intuitive. Like @idle wasp I've done some pretty extensive testing of crops and as one example the average grow time for a potato in the workshop incubator is ~17h and in the greenhouse incubator it's ~35h. It's even more noticeable for some of the dome plants like O2 trees going from ~7h to ~39h in the respective incubators.
workshop got exactly 300% growth speed compared to greenhouse with no fertilizer
fertilizer gives +40% growth speed in the greenhouse
and there is a growth penalty if you don't use the equipment required for the plant's stage (for example, a potato seedling planted (2 growth stages) in a shelf will grow at 75% the speed it would have in an incubator, or a tomato seedling (3 growth stages) in a field will grow at 30% the speed it would get in incubator)
it definitely needs balancing imo
still checking numbers for some plants though 🙂
I can totally agree on this one. I had planted, harvested and process 6 batches potatoes AND beets while I never even got to harvest 1 batch in the green house.
All the greenhouse numbers I mentioned above were with ample fertilizer. I find that the same plants going through each stage correctly (incubator->shelf take 2-6 times longer in a well fertilized greenhouse than in a workshop. Greenhouse should be faster BECAUSE of fertilizer so the penalty if there's no fertilizer makes sense. However, the overall slower growth even with fertilizer doesn't make any sense to me. I've spent 2 days staring at plants growing, all seed type, in both structures. It's maddening. I haven't seen pyramid address this yet. Do we know if they're look at changing any of this for the EA?
Maybe I just missed the conversation about it somewhere else. I don't always scroll back through conversations that happened while I was sleeping
No they haven’t addressed it but it will be part of a balance pass, greenhouse should definitely be faster than workshop.
I’ve spent the last few days watching plants grow too so I can compare numbers.
Thanks for the info. There’s a wiki page with estimated grow times by plant in the greenhouse in case you want to compare.
saw it, i will once i'm done getting all the numbers 🙂
growing 1 type at a time so i can check oxygen production too, so far workshop also gives 3 times the O2 production for the same plant at the same stage, and field gives 50% more O2 than hydro shelf in greenhouse (1,56L/h in greenhouse hydro shelf, 2,34L/h in fields, 4,68L/h in workshop)
Interesting. I haven't tried looking at the O2 production of plants.
