So yeah I think I'm just stuck with drill holes thens sand and chisel the corners

#

When I get a chance will practice it

rocky vapor
#

Oh I found a half inch chisel

rocky vapor
#

Tried a half inch bit then chisel out the sides. Almost worked, except for that blowout and also it shook free my clamp and the wood screws I was using as pseudo clamps

rocky vapor
#

This is probably workable, just a skill issue

nova arch
#

Woah.

#

You should either chisel from both sides or keep a sacrificial wood under to prevent blowout

rocky vapor
#

Not great but not garbage either

#

Drilled with a 5/8s bit

#

To make it real nice would need to sand and chisel it more but my wrist is cramping so have to stop

nova arch
#

dont hold very tight and let gravity do the work for you

#

also it would help to keep a sacrificial wood to prevent tear-outs

#

alternately drill from both sides and meet half-way

rocky vapor
#

Did both of those things. The chipping happened while chiseling

#

Which again, skill issue

nova arch
#

keep the sacrificial wood in place during chiseling as well

rocky vapor
#

Fair

nova arch
#

the plywood veneer is pretty thin and is highly suseptible to chipping

rocky vapor
#

@raven marten @dawn tinsel sanity check before I drill this rectangle. The linkage connecting the dropper and the reader wheel is slightly above center of the reader wheel, so when it turns, the linkage is pulled

rocky vapor
#

Did it. A touch wide but otherwise very nice

rocky vapor
#

Note to self get threaded inserts and screws to match

rocky vapor
#

Was bisy. Working on ordering parts

rocky vapor
#

Still unsure on how to join the frames and set them up for easy dissasembly

dawn tinsel
#

Angle brackets with bolts and nuts?

#

On a flatpack frame

rocky vapor
#

Thing is bottom frame is quarter inch, so I need very short screws

rocky vapor
#

Dang. Sacrificial board moved and a bad chisel hit made that happen but otherwise pretty good.

rocky vapor
#

2.5 inch hole saw arrives today

rocky vapor
#

Did it.

#

Making precise gears for these will be a bit of a pain

rocky vapor
#

Have supply reel and instrument mount to drill thrn I'm done drilling frame holes

rocky vapor
#

All holes except instrument mount drilled

#

Very scared now because I need to actually decide on frame brackets

rocky vapor
slim bloom
#

Just out of Curiosity what size marblesare you using

rocky vapor
#

Half inch

slim bloom
#

thanks

rocky vapor
#

Any reason why you are curious? I do realize none of my updates said that outright

blazing oxide
#

probably related to this: #3d-printing🧵 message

rocky vapor
#

Ah. I mean my droppers work but are kinda amatuerish. You should ask @ absence0000

slim bloom

so if it isn't too much trouble could you send the files? if not i completely understand.

raven marten
slim bloom
#

i would still like to try

#

jyamadas also has a connection for the reader and a longer rail

rocky vapor
#

Going to reiterate that I don't think my topology is very good but knock yourself out.

slim bloom
#

Thank you so much i will

rocky vapor
#

A week of no progress and I feel really bad about it

rocky vapor
#

Ack still nothing. Need motivation

rocky vapor
#

Ugh. Motivation just hasnt been there

rocky vapor
#

Its been a heatwave so actual work has stalled

dawn tinsel
#

Understandable

dawn tinsel
#

How’s progress going?

rocky vapor
#

Sigh bad. Motivation is scarce but also being afraid if I make a mistake its an expensive one to replace.

rocky vapor
#

Okay I've been listless for too long. This week, I'm building the elevator. The whole thing

dawn tinsel
#

Have you managed to start the elevator?

rocky vapor
#

Nope. Again, motivation, real life stuff. But the idea is simple. Holes in beams, cut tarp, drill in 63 dowels to make rows

blazing oxide
#

Do you need a hand? In 4 hours or so there might me a chance for a vc?

rocky vapor
#

Sorry, busy with a different personal project thats been bugging me.

#

It was supposed to be a one day project but it bled into today

blazing oxide
#

No worries, good luck with the other project!

blazing oxide
#

Could you finish your other project?

rocky vapor
#

Nearly. Final details then sending it out

rocky vapor
#

Its done, but Doesn't feel the best to be honest. Mostly just burning myself at both ends to pretend I'm doing something.

rocky vapor
#

I think I touched a scar and burned myself out again

#

Feel no desire to create much of anything.

rocky vapor
#

I've been avoiding it for too long and I need help.

#

I need a way to join a quater inch and a half inch plywood boards at a 90 degree angle, BUT they need to be easily separated for storage reasons.

dawn tinsel
#

You can use threaded inserts in wood, so you use an angle bracket to join the two planks but one side uses wood screws and the other side uses bolts

blazing oxide
#

(would you need a sketch for that or can you see how the pieces, threaded inserts, screws, and bolts would be placed?)

rocky vapor
#

Think I get it, just need to find the right threaded inserts and how to install them

rocky vapor
#

I'm still just very scared I'll screw something up, like cutting the tarp in a straight line

rocky vapor
blazing oxide
#

As long as the threaded insert is only in one of them, the bolt in the other, and not in both of them at once that seems to make sense

rocky vapor
#

And searching is being vague and unhelpful, how do I install these?

nova arch
#

pre-drill under size just like for a screw and then thread them in.

rocky vapor
#

I'm burned out. Had to step back from creating anything

rocky vapor
#

It's a terrible thing.

#

My mindset of "use this to get a resume piece and a job" has absolutely poisoned me into not finding joy in coding anymore. And has subsequently drained any other hobbies I have

rocky vapor
#

Have to put this on even mire hiatus, have work stuff to do
