customDamage handler int Fabric Minecraft modding

This probably a really dumb question but I am coding for a Minecraft mod and I was making a custom item and I was wondering what the int is for the handler in customDamage in the FabricItemSettings.
This is at the end of the last line where is says handler

for questions specific to minecraft modding, you are better off asking in a dedicated discord (there are a few I know of, namely the 'minecraft mod development' discord)
otherwise you can search for usages of the method in question to see what values are provided elsewhere (outside of your own code), then make a decision based on that
