uh, do you even know what segmentation error means lol
anyways, what exactly are you doing that generates the error?
literally just opening any java application
lemme check tho
when i try to download java or use java for anything, this error pops up
ah
i tried downloading a bunch of versions of java before because i am...not the best at computers and kept getting it wrong
this issue has come up before but the channels are gone and i don't really know about it myself, but from what i remember;
try opening cmd.exe and check java -version
it doesnt recognize java as a command
ok so that means you haven't installed it
or at least not properly
make sure to check the box about PATH when you install
it just pops that error i posted before and gets stuck
when you try to open the installer/wizard?
that happens to all of us, try leveling your anti-curse charms
i don't remember where to go from here, sorry
ah well...if you can find anyone who can help,if appreciate it a lot
ok,it finally stopped downloading
but it threw me the same error i posted before like 9 times
and when i try to use it to open anything ,like a minsweeper app i downloaded for testing,it just throws the same error, again
does this work
nope
opening CMD and typing that command results in uh,java not being recognized as a command
oof
Hi, do you know you don't need to install Java using the installation wizard at all. For example I let IntelliJ to download different versions of Java and than can easily switch between them.
What I'm trying to say is that it's enough to just download Java binaries, place it to some nice place and than you have to only make sure to update JAVA_HOME and PATH system variables.
i tried things like adoptium and it uh,didnt work either
And you updated PATH variable?
Can you post here the content you put into that variable?
I'm doing this all the time and it just works
i dont think i fully understand, but first lemme check one thing
it just refuses to open at all
even the configuration file
ok i think i found the issue
What refuses open what?
How do you open Java?
nvm that wasnt it
Okay
just opening any file with java brings the same issue
You can open any Java file with text editor. That should work
but i cannot run anything that requires java
and if you run "java -version" what do you get?
literally says java is not a command
Because you did not set updated path to Java on PATH system variable!!!
bruh i cant open configure java what can i do
really i dunno how to do that
please,tell me how
This is for JAVA_HOME variable. Next to it there will be a Path variable where you add absolute path to bin directory in Java
ok
now what
Check the version in cmd
C:\Windows\System32>java -version
Error: could not open `C:\Program Files (x86)\Java\jre1.8.0_351\lib\i386\jvm.cfg'
well this is progress atleast
I need the system variables content
wdym ¨next to?¨ i dont understand
In the parent window, there is a lot of other variables
you mean on the link you posted earlier? sorry im rather slow
The window where are listed all the system variables. There you have the JAVA_HOME variable
Yes, this one
what do i do with all this?
Amazing
Change the first entry
By the variable u used in JAVA_HOME
Oh and remove rest of the Java entries
To not confuse the system
ok done
now?
i still cant seem to run games
(like i did not have java at all)
version in cmd still say that it is unknown command?
no
wait
C:\Windows\System32>java -version
Error: could not open `C:\Program Files (x86)\Java\jre1.8.0_351\lib\i386\jvm.cfg'
could not open it
so yes
my computer is 64 bits tho
that's a different error so no
it's reading java just fine but it's not reading the stuff inside java
oh yeah mis read that
