The trap works but you must know how to play with traps, this means units should not have any sort of defensive stats such as using HT nor damage decrease and HP skills, components etc. the trap damage is proportional to the amount of damage dealt by the enemy. You want to be hit with overkill damage to work.

Do note that an army trap will not trigger against air nor navy

And you can indeed chip off 5-7 units from Ancorlon at 10M CP using a trap that matches his march.
