Plus the amount of hands that have been on the library... I can safely say if the core is based off of any madam and clip chipset, it will play just like any other fz1 3do system.

#

Worst case scenario: srg doesn't get the ram issue squared completely and has to have modifications per game basis, there is only 300 games in the library, most of which work fine. The only thing to worry about after that is per game basis for any homebrew to come out from here on

Does that mean that the 3DO was ahead of it's time?

Yeah, that and several other reasons are why I stopped reading Time Extension. The second commenent says it best "this is a hair trigger response to seeing "ai" and dismissing it out of hand.", I have seen people that the second they see the word "AI" regardless of usage or context instantly hate anything even remotely associated with what it was used in. I have my issues with it as well, but I don't just blindly hate any and every aspect of it.

Was there any differences in the way games worked between models though? Many consoles in the past have had revisions but they rarely had an effect on the game still functioning 100% the same, even when you do stuff to break/glitch the game, they generally glitch in the exact same way with the exact same set of inputs.

Just replace standard with retro gaming site

They’re a bunch of copycats. I been a hater for most of my life, for good reason too. Kinda what happens when over and over people shit on your facts and truths that you tell, only for them to turn around and act like it was theirs the entire time with no apologies given for how they treated you. # covert wagon It’s getting worse lately. Every MiSTer video is met with some kind of anger. Or...

Was there even a way to play CD-I games that used the MPEG card before the mister core? I think support was added to a software emulator recently but IIRC no software emulator supported it until the mister CD-I core did. And people act like the mister is like Nesticle or ZSNES just because it's not 100% accurate. Mind you, I would prefer NES core-level accuracy and think that should be attempted when possible instead of having a game "just run" like the ZSNES days, but to act like if you don't have that you have nothing is disingenuous.

I see a regression in Road Rash the graphics are missing slightly on the side, this is on pacific highway stage

grim goblet
#

aye, I'm seeing the same glitches in Immercenary and Lucienne's Quest

tribal sandal
#

Seems like the graphic issues in Super Sf2 Turbo (Europe) are fixed on the select screen. No issues found in Pal or Ntsc mode, although in Pal mode the screen is not centered in the middle but at the top. Strangely if i manually load panafz10e-anvil bios with this game in pal mode the screen is centered so i guess its a pal/ntsc bios thing.

Definitely some regressions with this build, but that's the nature of core development! Fix some things, and others will likely regress until the fixes gradually overtake the regressions over time.

AFAICT the slowdown in the Mortal Kombat II port has been resolved in the newest core. I'm still awful at the game, but certain levels no longer play like the characters are underwater. Edit: Maybe a little bit of slowdown is left, but not nearly as much.

crisp zealot
#

The graphical glitches will be fixed over time; that's not a problem. I'm more interested in the slowdown in other games.

#

I'm talking about slowdowns that are clearly noticeable. The ones described in the test sheet.

tribal sandal
#

Is it possible to use a different bios per game like on the Saturn core? By that I mean putting a bios file in the games folder. This could be useful for pal games so that the screen is centred when running at 50hz

crisp zealot
#

Yes. Place the cd_bios.rom file in the game folder or the parent folder (for example, EU).

tribal sandal
#

Thanks I will do that later

crisp zealot

Currently, two BIOS versions are automatically detected: Panasonic FZ-1 (E) and Panasonic FZ-1 (E) (unencrypted).

The BIOS for ANVIL has not been added because the ANVIL chip is not yet supported.

crisp zealot

#

I guess if you are able down the line to skip the RSA check so unencrypted ROMs can load on any BIOS then it probably doesn't matter what version is in there to get everything booting, but I am not the expert here, maybe some things work differently on different systems

crisp zealot
#

This isn't a top priority. I'll get around to it eventually. If anyone knows more about this, feel free to make changes to the core at any time. I'd appreciate it.

sharp pendant
#

I don't suspect anyone who knows can write VHDL, but in the meantime we can mark on the sheet which don't boot (presumably) because they are unencrypted. It seems to be the Warner Music disc and a load of demo and beta versions of things that for the most part there are final release versions of.

All the regressions from the previous build in Need for Speed are gone now. Upgrading it back to playable in the testing sheet. Had no crashes during a race, while pausing, or after a race like I was in the previous build. Honestly, the only minor issue I see left in the game is that the opponent's car still shows some boxes flickering around it briefly at the start of a race. Seems more promient with some cars more than others.

#

Also upgrading PGA Tour to playable for the first time since the swing gauge is visible enough now to reasonably play the game. Still severe visual corruption in the game though. But definitely playable now. Was able to get a birdy and a par on the first two holes, which I was never able to do before.

Yeah. The thing I noticed:

  1. It seems to be that some sort of mastering software they made decided indexes start at 1, because there's no 3DO game with an index 0
  2. It's all either Japanese-made games or Japanese ports of non-Japanese games, with like one exception that actually saw release
  3. It seems like "INDEX 2" just refers to the end of a track

there's no index 0 because 3DO games are all one track. index 0 is not a thing for the first track

  1. Boot Need For Speed. 2. Select the car option and change to the Porsche 911. 3. Start the race (select the ignition key).
During the camera zoom into your car you will see some transparent black squares that look like a badly clipped shadow quad. The camera has to be sufficiently far away from the car. The "sweet spot" for the camera occurs during the zoom in at the start of the race and the zoom out at the checkpoints/finish line. From the third person camera (C button), you might see it if you crash at high speed and the camera has to pull back when your car flips.

It's probably not obvious (the UI was trying to be "no text" and I don't think they succeeded in making it intuitive), if you highlight the dude's face and use the LShift and RShift buttons you change his car. Something about the green Porsche is causing the glitch, so when you have both your car and the opponent's car as the Porsche, you'll see twice as many artifacts- or at least twice as many chances to see the green artifacts. In fact the easiest way to see the artifacts is to have the opponent be the green Porsche and tail behind him by a few car lengths and the green square will flicker in and out of existence if you keep close to him during the race. I think it's only really visible from the chase camera (from first-person, press C twice).

but testing and gaming bring me a lot of joy, great work !

crisp zealot
#

I tested 4 arcade versions and 4 beta versions of the games. They all ran fine.

#

I don't have time for more testing.

3do M2 ? 😀?

According to Wikipedia, there are 8 arcade games? Are they in mame?

forest lichen

for arcade - Rename the 3do_arcade_saot.bin file to cd_bios.rom and place it in the game folder or parent folder.

crisp zealot
#

I made an experimental erase command of the VRAM pages. This erase is used in some games, such as Seal of the Pharaoh, Space Hulk, Star Wars. These changes could cause a lot of regression!

I remember renting Theme Park for my 3DO console back in the day and sometimes when building a big park the game would freeze. Just thought I’d put that out there as showing that it did have issues on my real console.

Am I reading it right that arcade games are now playable?

dire sinew
#

seems like they are just normal games with a different bios

#

I don't think the exclusives ever came out

Do they need that coin peripheral supported

?

dire sinew

I dunno. I just know I can’t play the beavis and butthead beat em up

I had no idea there were arcade exclusives on 3do.

One game (Beavis and butthead) has an expanded spec. But that’s never been dumped. No matter how hard I try to convince galloping ghost

dire sinew

I saw it was someone in chicago

vapid agate
#

they dont allow anyone to dump it

dire sinew
#

wtf why

vapid agate
#

they have a like 2-3 rare pcbs, i believe that they want to keep

#

you can go there and play the game but its typical anti-preservationist thought process

dire sinew
#

that is some "belongs in a museum" ass shit.

vapid agate
#

old timers want to keep the "value" of what they have

#

its an otherwise cool arcade, worth a visit, but its lame that they are that way about it

dire sinew
#

I like Galloping Ghost. I just think that sucks

#

I guess what I should say is that I don't care if they want to preserve their value - I get it, that's fine.

But I hope someone has dumped it. even if they have to keep it private until galloping ghost closes or the machine dies

#

I think the idea of trying to preserve your value in the face of losing a game permanently is fucking abhorrent. And folks that do that should not be allowed to have artifacts like that.

this core disappeared from my mister today after running updateall. How can I get it back?

dire sinew
#

I removed it from the dual ram repo because that core is a month old (and the core no longer requires dual ram). Check the pins for the latest version. You can also install the WIP repo in order to have update all install it

simple iris
#

I am pretty worthless with this thing when it comes to do anything other than running the updateall script..

dire sinew
#

oh well it's super easy. if you're putting stuff on your mister, how do you do it? do you pop the SD card out? FTP into the mister?

simple iris
#

pop out the sd card normally but I just tried to ftp into it using mister companion and dont see the "meedia" folder to put your two updater scripts in

#

media*

dire sinew

what do you see when you ftp in? anything? empty folder?

simple iris

folders labeled sd card, tmp, and then usb1 through usb7

0 through 7 actually

dire sinew

ok perfect, do you see fat?

simple iris
#

hmm nope not on mine

dire sinew
#

ok, see if you can go up a level

simple iris
dire sinew
#

you logged in with username: root and password: 1, yeah?

simple iris
#

yes

#

those are the only folders. going up a level just takes me to my network devices

dire sinew
#

hmm, I wonder if windows is just not seeing it. let's just pop the SD card out and do it that way

#

those two ini files will go into the same folder that you see MiSTer and downloader and your core directories

signal mango
#

your mister still boots right?

#

oh right you logged in.

simple iris
#

yeah. ok I'll do it that way. thanks for your help

#

filezilla sees it through ftp. so, just put those two scrip files in the fat folder?

#

probably in the scripts folder in the fat folder

dire sinew
#

No, /media/fat. where the downloader.ini file is

simple iris
#

Ok I got it on the mister if I go to unstable. But once I'm in, my controller no longer works. It works in all the stable cores through

#

Fixed it by plugging in a ps5 controller instead of using llapi 8bitdo SNES controller

Lol but the video for the core is just a tiny vertical stripe on the far left of the screen

In Wing Commander 3, are the random red, blue and yellow dots (stars?) supposed to be there in the flight sequences, or is space supposed to be black? I can't tell if they're glitchy pixels or not.

One interesting thing is the intro to Slayer. the Mister core handles it exactly like a 3DO emulator does. There's a delay when the fire beast actually spews out his fireball on the mister and emulators compared to real hardware

Ok I know operation jump gate was an expansion that added 5 missions to shockwave. I'm assuming if get the operation jump gate disc image it contains everything from the base game too?

#

Nevermind looking at the file sizes probably not

visual sonnet
#

Operation Jumpgate doesn't have the first shockwave on it

#

And it will only work if it reads a save file from the first shock wave on the console.

marble sandal
grim goblet
#

I would assume as with others similar cores, if you want to share save data between games, you're going to need to put those games into the same folder. The default functionality is to have completely independant saves for each game, based on the folder the game disc images are stored in on your SD card or other.
So, this probably works just fine, you'll just have to put the games in the same folder.

marble sandal
#

So I used a workaround I've used for other systems. I made 2 separate folders for shockwave and operation jump gate but made a subfolder with the same name as the folder for the base game so as far as mister with saves it's the same folder. And it works.

visual sonnet
#

Saving seems hit and miss at the moment

marble sandal
#

Yeah I'm not counting on saves much right now but I am putting 3do games on my mister and making sure the file structure accommodates it when it's a bit more stable.

#

And that trick works for other systems too so you don't have to constantly move around and change save file names

The boxes that appear around the X-Man's car in Need for Speed is finally fixed with today's update! Still need to test further to see if the corruption near the end of the Coastal route's second segment is fixed or not. Absolutely love this game.

So, I can get the game to boot, but it won't recognize my controller.

Oh, I need to enable controller for it to do so
