#Panasonic 3DO

Worst case scenario: srg doesn't get the ram issue squared completely and has to have modifications per game basis, there is only 300 games in the library, most of which work fine. The only thing to worry about after that is per game basis for any homebrew to come out from here on
Does that mean that the 3DO was ahead of it's time?
We have those btw
Yes. I don't think another gaming console had something like that for a while.
How does it's approach differ from the CDi? I honestly think the two are kinda similar in that they're both systems that emphasized multimedia and were designed from the start to be a multi-vendor platform
Yeah, that and several other reasons are why I stopped reading Time Extension. The second commenent says it best "this is a hair trigger response to seeing "ai" and dismissing it out of hand.", I have seen people that the second they see the word "AI" regardless of usage or context instantly hate anything even remotely associated with what it was used in. I have my issues with it as well, but I don't just blindly hate any and every aspect of it.
This may be wildly ambitious, but maybe we should do our own retro-gaming journalism
Was there any differences in the way games worked between models though? Many consoles in the past have had revisions but they rarely had an effect on the game still functioning 100% the same, even when you do stuff to break/glitch the game, they generally glitch in the exact same way with the exact same set of inputs.
Meh, I think most of us are too busy playing/working on the mister to bother writing fluff retro articles, also, this feels like a xkcd situation
Just replace standard with retro gaming site
In that case can someone point to a site that's Timeextension but better?
Awww, but the FZ-10 bios is funny! It has all those silly bouncing CDs! ||And a built-in memory manager||
Yeah that was quite the article; its foundation was a random tweet nobody interacted with. And then I’ve gotta hear about it on my end. Must have been a real slow news day if a random sentence on Twitter gets an article 🤣
2026 is the year of performative outrage and “gotcha” and people are climbing over each other to be the first to be angry and then the angriest amongst everyone else. They base their identity around “outrage” and self worth around how many things they told internet strangers were terrible this week
Hello do u know if this core will be 100% accurate on the de25 thx in advance
Speak for yourself haha
“DE25 can’t run 100% accurate 3DO core. We asked AI. Also AI is Evil” the article writes itself
IIRC, there’s instances of games having issues, but on later hardware and not the FZ-1
They’re a bunch of copycats. I been a hater for most of my life, for good reason too. Kinda what happens when over and over people shit on your facts and truths that you tell, only for them to turn around and act like it was theirs the entire time with no apologies given for how they treated you. Comes with the territory. Now people are just mad to be mad. What they don’t understand is that I’m usually nice most of the time. That’s the key.
It’s getting worse lately. Every MiSTer video is met with some kind of anger. Or accusations of lying. Now the “mister isn’t accurate. Just use a 3DO emulator. You are scamming people” comments are coming in
What’s the scam? I haven’t found the juice from the squeeze yet
When MiSTer is already better because it’s emulating at a hardware level.
It’s exhausting. Nothing can be fun any more. A large percentage of FPGA commenters now just insist it’s all a cash generating scam or some 1-900 level fraud
Need to at least get shill money from sorg if you’re gonna be accused of shilling
I think you're too lost in the sauce. The world is not youtube comments - and thank god
When they themselves ARE the scam. Like most of these so called “influencers”. They only pretend to care about the things they make videos about just to get subs to their Patreons and OnlyFans accounts. Like what Retro Gaming and Pokemon card collecting is now.
lol yes I know. But the general retro consensus online is everything is the worst ever. And don’t forget retro IS online
At least my 3DO credibility is undisputed 🤣 I’ve been a moron who loves it for forever
Like a wanna be porn star doing Fortnite videos and Pokemon card openings while linking to their OnlyFans.
see, but I don't think that is even true. Like, we have 17k people on this server. How many people are in your youtube comments?
Like do they not understand that children watch this shit?
and then how many people don't even pay attention and just have a mister because someone told them it played snes good on their tv
It plays Mario!
he jump and say wahoo
Same here. Been a fan of really all things home media. At one point I had literally everything home video wise save for VHD.
Damn it now how am I going to roll out my onlyfans?
There’s other stuff that hasn’t been tainted yet. Like sports, or ASMR….
You could talk about sports while showing your crack
lol I already worked in sports. ASMR creeps me out
ASMR puts me to sleep depending on what it is. Like water noises and things like that are good for me
I see, how common is that? IIRC there are some early Famicom games that have issues on the NES, but other than that, I believe like 99.99% of famicom and NES games run the same across all revisions
I’m not sure. It’s what I’ve heard. Never owned any other 3DO than an FZ-1
Cdi is a lot less involved and inferior hardware. 3do was designed for gaming, with multimedia as a strong suit. CDi was designed for multimedia, and gaming as an after thought.
Posted about this above
Which is why it’s great for business as a training tool, or as an interactive kiosk. Also great for education as IIRC, CD-i units were cheaper than PC’s
Here
Was there even a way to play CD-I games that used the MPEG card before the mister core? I think support was added to a software emulator recently but IIRC no software emulator supported it until the mister CD-I core did. And people act like the mister is like Nesticle or ZSNES just because it's not 100% accurate. Mind you, I would prefer NES core-level accuracy and think that should be attempted when possible instead of having a game "just run" like the ZSNES days, but to act like if you don't have that you have nothing is disingenuous.
They will see, they will all see once we have gamecom, or nuon, or hyperscan support! MWAH HA HA HA HA!
And it's not a hardware compatibility issue, it's simply that OS occupies too much ram in the ANVIL systems
I honestly think it's projection. People who are invested in single-core clone consoles or have a large retro collection that can be replaced with an SD card
Yup, I see that a lot. Dosen't help that it's an enthausist device that I admit most people would probably be ok with an actual Pi or something and not care about the accuracy, but to say it's a scam or just trying to sell a product? We aren't the SuperSEGA here 😛
Because then their collection is worthless in the grand scheme of things and they lose their bragging rights. A lot of those people have such low self esteem that they need things like that to feel important. And it’s sad.
It's funny really. If you wanna collect something gaming-related that can't be replaced by emulation, just buy old Prima Guides. The experience of a PDF scan is not the same
MiSTer is the best console out there tbh
Who’s LITERALLY coming back with another scam….
Especially Dual RAM ones
@gloomy flint Hard to tell if you saw this since it got buried so quickly lol
Yep, seen that earlier but was just waking up so my brain wasn’t braining yet
Probably a dumb question but does Srg320 have a 3DO console? or is he making the core based on documents and emulation progress?
It's... it's four pieces of wood arranged in a square...
Slope's Game Room did a deep dive on this guy and his online presence is weird
He gave one of the outlets a picture to post of him probing a 3do system
Yup.
I thought he must have a console but I wasn’t sure, the 3DO is definitely a difficult task to recreate. Hopefully those chip scans you had done get released.
Its unfortunate there wasn't more CDi units in classrooms. A lot of us would have had more fond memories playing it on days when it was storming during recess.
I hope so too. I still haven't heard back from the guy
Just to prove I'm not bullshitting, here is a few pictures sent to me of the chips
There is a scan of anvil floating around the internet somewhere. But I don't know if it was completed.
there is more 😛
Haha so now I can use my flight stick on MiSTer. And be the only one who probably ever does it. Love it!
I see too quicker on my side need to wait next time ^^
woo new pll for video clock
Yeah I think so too
What used to irritate me was when you correct someone on how much is known about how the 3do works and many people would be like "well I looked on Google and didn't see much" yeah... You're yapping about how obscure a system is then surprised when Google doesnt give you answers you're looking for as a sponsored result lol
@crisp zealot it's my build or pause menu is broken in Need for Speed?
Sometimes is ok
Sometimes looks like here
I'm getting it too, changes everytime I reset the core
Thank you for the confirmation
Maybe it's a regression. You can't do without it.
Sure, I totally get it, I just wanted to double-check if that's okay 🙂
I use arch btw
Do I peen this?
OMG another build already!? Time to get testing!
It's up to you; the core is working fine
I have peeeem’d this
The flashing colors in Need for Speed seem to be fixed, but now there's a massive black box in the sky!
Immercenary has some new graphical artifacts on the right side of the screen in todays core.
Oh weird, I tried the City and Coastal courses and they were fine. But then booted up the Alpine course again (the one that had the black box in the sky), and now it's also fine? That'll be a weird one to diagnose!
Did a cold reboot and tried it again, and the black box isn't showing up anymore. There are still some small boxes that appear on the opponent's car at the start of the race though, but that was there in the previous builds too.
The Eye of Typhoon now freezes trying to get into the main menu, game is now unplayable in todays core.
I can't get my controller to work, so may be related
Go into inputs and enable it, it turned off in this update
PGA Tour now shows the swing gauge, but it's really glitchy looking and still not really playable.
Not seeing the glitching backgrounds anymore in Samsho.
portal to the backrooms
Actually downgrading Need for Speed to "Boots" on the sheet, because in more testing, the game is crashing pretty often during a race now, which never happened in previous core builds.
Just not really playable in a meaningful way.
Weren't the graphics very broken even in normal gameplay in Need for Speed? Or was that part fixed in the latest unstable?
Most of the graphics are fixed (but not all of it). But game crashes a lot now and there are still some graphical bugs.
I see, well, the core is still early, it's amazing how far it got so quickly in the first place
Gamepad isn’t working for me anymore with the today’s build. Already tried to remap it but no changes.
Found it: I need to change the input option to “pad 1” and now it is working again
do you use Arch?
I see a regression in Road Rash the graphics are missing slightly on the side, this is on pacific highway stage
aye, I'm seeing the same glitches in Immercenary and Lucienne's Quest
Seems like the graphic issues in Super Sf2 Turbo (Europe) are fixed on the select screen. No issues found in Pal or Ntsc mode, although in Pal mode the screen is not centered in the middle but at the top. Strangely if i manually load panafz10e-anvil bios with this game in pal mode the screen is centered so i guess its a pal/ntsc bios thing.
Forgot to mention that this is also visible in Need for Speed.
Definitely some regressions with this build, but that's the nature of core development! Fix some things, and others will likely regress until the fixes gradually overtake the regressions over time.
AFAICT the slowdown in the Mortal Kombat II port has been resolved in the newest core. I'm still awful at the game, but certain levels no longer play like the characters are underwater. Edit: Maybe a little bit of slowdown is left, but not nearly as much.
The graphical glitches will be fixed over time; that's not a problem. I'm more interested in the slowdown in other games.
I'm talking about slowdowns that are clearly noticeable. The ones described in the test sheet.
is PSX the only core with an fps counter?
N64 too, right?
oh yeah that sounds right
And what should you compare FPS to?
Different versions of the core I guess, nothing to do with real hardware or emulation 😅
How can we figure out which version is correct?😀
Powerslide and OpenLara have a built-in FPS.
Is it possible to use a different bios per game like on the Saturn core? By that I mean putting a bios file in the games folder. This could be useful for pal games so that the screen is centred when running at 50hz
Yes. Place the cd_bios.rom file in the game folder or the parent folder (for example, EU).
Thanks I will do that later
Currently, two BIOS versions are automatically detected: Panasonic FZ-1 (E) and Panasonic FZ-1 (E) (unencrypted).
The BIOS for ANVIL has not been added because the ANVIL chip is not yet supported.
I judge core performance by my own subjective metric which is, in this case, to say that the 3DO core feels like surfing a giant wave of nostalgic fun beneath an aurora borealis of magical whimsy.
What’s your favourite 3do exclusive
CPU BACH!!!
Don’t laugh! It’s an earnest question 😭
What’s up, doc?
Real!!
Homebrew game in the works for the 3DO.
https://bsky.app/profile/goldenageturbo.bsky.social/post/3mjjrc6jvfc2n
Crash fixed. Next vertex colors. #3DO doesn’t support that nor untext quads, to get around it the exporter now iterates through the model vertex colors, picks the most prominent 16, & creates a texture, quads later on index the first pixel of a row with the closest color
I think his renderer will have to be reworked with more LOD. I saw a few of the older builds for 3do and they were even slower than that.
But it's more than possible to get it at a good frame rate with a good lod system
Also 3do does support untextured quads
Regardless, the game looks pretty cool. Definitely a daunting task to set a goal as big as porting it to every retro system, including the ones that are as limited as the 3do in the 3d department.
Yeah, I noticed they are targeting the PS1, N64, Saturn and Dreamcast as well.
I think their port to those handful are nearly done. The 3do will require extra time. It's just how it is unfortunately
is there a meaningful difference between the regular and unencrypted bios (for our purposes)?
not that I am aware of. One just removes RSA checks
I dont think there is anything else of interest to it
- AD&D Slayer 2. Immercenary 3. AD&D Deathkeep
This only makes sense for dynamic video. For example, game Killing Time switches frame buffers every 6 video frames. If you stand still in an empty room, the same image will be updated every 6 video frames, but the video will appear to be unchanging.
3DO
I can use LA to determine the time between the start of rendering a new frame on the original hardware. I can also calculate the same thing in the core using SignalTap and compare the results. That's exactly what I'm doing.
Surely “3DO 3DO” is the appropriate name for this thread
Yes. But you'll have to wait a long time.
Is there a preferred one and has this changed since the one recommended before was added to the BIOS DB?
Thats the europe only bios I think. i was trying to suss out if it goes in /games/3DO/ as like boot1, but I’m not home to test
Ah OK, maybe we leave what is in the BIOS DB for now then
I can't say for sure. I haven't researched the differences between them. I chose the FZ-1 BIOS because that's the specific console I'm using for my research. If I understand correctly, the FZ-10 is used with consoles based on the ANVIL chip. This chip has some differences in its registers compared to MADAM/CLIO. Please correct me if I'm wrong.
I guess if you are able down the line to skip the RSA check so unencrypted ROMs can load on any BIOS then it probably doesn't matter what version is in there to get everything booting, but I am not the expert here, maybe some things work differently on different systems
This isn't a top priority. I'll get around to it eventually. If anyone knows more about this, feel free to make changes to the core at any time. I'd appreciate it.
I don't suspect anyone who knows can write VHDL, but in the meantime we can mark on the sheet which don't boot (presumably) because they are unencrypted. It seems to be the Warner Music disc and a load of demo and beta versions of things that for the most part there are final release versions of.
Thanks for the release.
Unfortunately, this build, in my case, doesn't recognize input from either the keyboard or my BT controller.
Input devices are fine, the main menu and OSD function correctly.
The previous version from April 9th didn't have this issue.
change input
core - menu - input - 1
Done! much appreciated

Hi, long time, first time - I have a dumb question: Now that it supports the EU bios, are we looking at a boot0.rom and boot1.rom situation? or do I just drop the EU bios into the Europe folder as cd_bios.rom and call it a day?
This is included in your build, yeah?
Met timings
Yes. Place the cd_bios.rom file in the game folder or the parent folder (for example, EU).
So I hear this place could use more Anvil
Is that Jim "The 3DO" Neidhart?
Just Bret Hart doing some code review.
pins updated
trip hawkins got snubbed
I don't get it: What exactly do we need now for both PAL and NTSC in the game folder? I have boot.rom for NTSC and a PAL BIOS renamed to cd_bios.rom. But then the screen flashes like hell, when the Region is either set to "BIOS" or "NTSC". PAL is fine then.
Ah, you need the correct PAL bios file.
panafz1e.bin = md5:ba3eda87fde9bd7f09c2b9db3dbb9887
happy to confirm there's no junk on the right in KT
there's another thing I'll see right now - the ending FMV was wobbly on the previous release
no, there's still odd wobble and artifacting (but the opening and every ghost FMV is fine)
... I can give you a save file, but you need to do the entire rigamarole with the clocks - activate all vessels at once, pick up white vessel and activate them all again to make it easy
...and the demo playbacks are pretty different
the best ending for that game...a true fuck you
the godess is free
the good ending in PC version isn't much better to be honest
with the protag filling in the greed aesop in a funny way
Just tried the 3DO core for the first time on my SuperStation One, and wow, blown away. It seems perfect so far, but then I haven't played a 3DO in decades. I did used to own the original Panasonic one back in the day so this brings back some memories. Road Rash!
Basically only real 3DO fans own a MiSTer
Probably a daft question but is there a SNAC adapter for 3DO yet?
I don’t think the core supports SNAC yet but 3DO uses the same connector as the mega drive
So technically yes
Reflex Adapt supports 3DO controllers that way
it is nice Adapt can handle the pinout internally
does that include audio jack functionality?
I’m hoping adding more than 2 controller support is easier than a traditional multitap
you can daisy chain up to 6 controllers for two games
Games with more than 2 playrers for 3DO afaik:
4P:
-PaTaank
-Twisted - The Game Show
-Wicked 18
-Zhadnost - The People's Party
5P
-Club 3DO: Station Invasion
6P
-FiFA International Soccer
8P:
-Decathlon
-Olympic Summer Games: Atlanta 1996
-Perfect General, The
Japanese Win95 Decathlon isn't real it can't hurt you
Japanese Win95 Decathlon:
i remember playing Return Fire at the house of one of my parents employers.
the part where both controllers had independent headphone audio blew me away
it made sense that day why only a manager type could afford that console
Yeah first 8 months retail price of a 3do was pretty high lol
eventually, he gave it away to my father for a slab of beer
after playing it for about eight months, I understood why he gave it away
Buddy didn't know what he was missing out on trading it for beer
he gave us the magazines, demo discs and everything for it
I was made to trade in alone in the dark, ‘cause it gave my little brother night terrors
For testing with composite that wants free dot crawl look, drop this in the yc.txt 3DO_59.8=80173391500
Haha nice
the night terrors
Somewhere, some kooky modern art collector has these in their collection. Would fit right into something like that even if they never played the game.
Not Alone in a Well Lit Place
in fact, was there any location in the first game that was truly dark? I’ve never got too far through it.
the caves
if you didn't pick up the lantern on the very first screen of the game you're screwed
gotta make that helpline money
to be fair that object stands out and you immediately pick it up on contact so it's not like ghost head samurai armor-tier bullshit
the hairpin lockpick in Dark Seed
Where did you learn to fly?
Those lips 🥵
Hmmm...
Nobody posting here last hour or two...
Might be a good time for me to post something about CPU Bach!
Who has the high score in cpu bach?
Me
25 minutes of 100% original symphonic music composed by my 3DO FZ-10
I know it's a hack, but in the single sdram release, that mk2 hack runs suuuuuper slow
But in the dual sdram release, player 2 controller wouldn't function
Oh I see someone said the newest release should fix that?
Core is still super early so probably a ton of stuff not working right. It’ll get there though.
I'll need to see which version I have
Looks like I have the release from April 2nd. I'll look for a newer and give it a shot. I know before the single sdram version came out, it ran fine
The dual ram core is out of date and will not be updated going forward.
I bought the extra ram stick the day the core came out. It arrived the day after the single ram build came out.
Now you can play atari jaguar tho
I have been running single ram jaguar core and it works fine
Maybe when the next impossible core comes out
Why are we hated so much for helping with information!?
Me either. But I also didn’t use single ram
Which is still more ram than Archive3DO. Archive3DNoMiSTer
Someone send him a MiSTer so he can finally play 3DO
Time to put away his toys
Probably because Dual RAM is the best and they hated you for insulting it?
Saw a 3DO FZ-1 being sold today.. but picked up a TG-16 instead
I didn't insult it though!
Mine arrived like an hour before the single ram core came out....
I am a dual ram shill and even I didn’t swear at Robby and MARl0
Why not
~
No way brother. Dual Ram till the day I F'n DIE
Dual ram is for BABIES
this is true and i agree
the only reason for dual ram is to play fat baby games slightly more accurately after all
I appreciate dual ram folk for beta testing my optimized efficient single ram experience.
I don’t know, I don’t play any of these third rate console’s cores. I just run update all.
Single ram will play every game but unfortunately it can’t be cycle accurate but dual ram is
i update all, i update all, i update all and i update now
It’s getting there
Let dual RAM users do what they want, it doesn't change the end result. Single RAM is great, what else? The only good intention behind dual RAM is to test the cores, I admit that, but aside from that, MiSTer users want cores with single RAM!
Judgement day is coming !
yes, but for whom?
Is the latest unstable build for dual sdram?
nope, all single ram now
That’s not what your mom said 🤣
I’d say who I’d hope it be for but then I’d be breaking the rules most likely
We all have a wishlist
I’ll give a hint and if it’s against the rules they can remove it. A certain group of racist, transphobic, sexist, homophobic, and xenophobic people who are currently mocking religion.
We can disagree on things like if DualRAM is better but not about someone’s right to exist.
I imagine you'd get a lot of support for that here ❤️
but yes, we probably shouldn't dig into it
as the kids say, iykyk 6 7
What the hell is “6 7”? All these damn kids saying it yet I’m old so I don’t know what it is
I think the idea is that it has no meaning and it confuses the olds
I saw a video comparing 67 to the Wassssssaaaahhhh (whats up) from the budweiser super bowl commercial. I think that makes sense
its the duty of the youth to confuse their elders
my goal in life is to get back to my 'wasted youth' period
I'm honestly fine with kids saying silly things, as long as they're not drinking Tide pods.
more like "New Game +" with my previous inventory carried over 😆
Or doing stupid challenges.
My 2nd ram stick is delivered next monday. Great timing, Amazon!
The entire point is that it's an antijoke
I explained to someone like this:
Y'know how South Park had that Kanye West "Fish Sticks" joke? Part of the reason they chose Kanye for it was because he'd be the type to try to find a deeper meaning to it
Do you think Trip Hawkins can kick flip?
only one way to find out
I feel like with that name it's highly likely
Trip Hawkins can do anything!
Whoa… I thought Trip Hawkins was a skateboarder. Instead he’s a charismatic businessman and snazzy dresser.
Trip drip
I thought trip would be a guy going through marriage trouble with his wife grace
What the hell? Policenauts was on the 3DO???
I recorded a few more games from the original hardware for comparison. https://youtu.be/FXUBnpgufZQ
Ghost Hunter Series - Kuroki Shi no Kamen, Stellar 7 - Draxon's Revenge (US), Goal FH (JP), Primal Rage (USA, Europe), Strahl (USA), Tanjou - Debut - Pure (Japan), Crystal Dynamics Best Selection ~ Sample This! (USA, Japan)
Appreciate we're still in WIP/beta for 3DO core but anywhere to log general issues that aren't game related. Couldn't find anywhere on Github
I think the plan was that once it gets moved to the mister-devel GitHub org then it'll be open for issues
That's right.
Here is a testing sheet if you want to document anything before Github opens up
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/118EAhaYUoGQp3036u4u7kMbwhFJrwh5yv3AKhke1f5o/
Metal Gear 3 was even originally being planned for 3DO. Imagine that odd alternative universe where that came to fruition.
I converted everything I could to CHD a while back. I see here some people have had reservations about CHDs for this core. I also don't see any distinction being made about CHD in the test doc apart from a single test note that says CHD works for a game whereas bin/cue doesn't
I've used CHD and haven't ran into any issues yet myself
There are some games that have an index greater than 2. CHD deletes that. What kind of problems does it cause? Unsure but data is being deleted,
In the pins there’s a link to a list of 3DO games that may have issues with CHD, here it is for your convenience - #1329170138234097745 message
You can verify yourself by opening your game’s cue file and looking at the index on each track.
I typed this from my hot bath.

So does super street fighter 2 turbo not boot currently on the core?
Sorry if it something already known haven't been paying much attention here
It should. What is the date on your core?
it does boot. i'm playing ssf2t right now
Ok I'm thinking maybe I got a bad disc image
That was it..just checking to make sure it wasn't an known issue before I retried.
This was imo the best console port of ssf2t
better than ps1/saturn ports?
Yes and for 1 reason the audio.
And that's just for SSF2T itself..the fact that it comes in a collection on PS1 and Saturn gives it an edge there
Hummmmm wonder if possible to put the WAV from the 3DO version into the PS1/Saturn ISO…
Maybe..I will say that before I was playing the msu-1 snes version with the 3do soundtrack
I'm pretty sure Genesis also has a MD+ version with the 3do soundtrack
Never played fm towns but have heard the remixed audio comes from that version
I am not sure about that list, there definitely are games with an index 2 but several of the games on that list did not have an index past 1 in my redump versions
yeah, some older dumps apparently didn't have it
Yeah, that list is based on the latest redump cue files. If yours doesnt have it then it’s out of date
Bad roms/dumps strike again!
it is already merged great !!!
LOL here I am ready to share a list of INDEX 02 differences I painstakingly chronicled and I see this.
Did any BINs get changed?
honestly, that's a good question. I don't know. i use romvault to make sure my legally backed up 3DO games match those in redump
btw, for anyone else, it's a bit easier to have a program like NPP scan multiple files than opening them individually
I use Notepad++
Again, for anyone else, NPP and Notepad++ are the same thing
Ah, but I was actually thinking of testing whether games boot while reading a book or screwing around on my phone, and this INDEX 02 fretting is a bit time consuming, huh
There's the sound of my PC fan as the CHD crunching gets real traction
but that list has Samurai Shodown and SSF2T, but I don't see INDEX02 at the redump.org site?
http://redump.org/disc/16129/
http://redump.org/disc/16131/
vs something I picked random, that has Index 02: http://redump.org/disc/6287/

Quick question: does the new MiSTer file have the RetroAchievements built in or is that a completely separate MiSTer file, like an alternate?
completely seperate fork. see the pinhere for links - #1495062825574465557
Hmm…now I have to see if I can switch between MiSTer files
Like with a button press
Okay, you were 1 minute faster than me for posting the core. 😂
peeeeeeeeeens
sorrryyyy
Question: what is ‘T’ in the controller mapping?
So 3DO gets the superior peeeeeeeeeeens, while the lowly Virtual Boy just gets pins. VB fans in shambles.
You know what's new ?
Kitrinx is a lady so i didnt want to be rude around her
im shy around ladies lol

Hmm, weird. I wonder if I did the query wrong. I’ll run it again when I get home
is the new core above single or dual ram?
Single, they'll all be single ram going forward
cool thanx
Awww crap, that's a lot I will have to re-download from another source then. Shame myrient went down
no, I'm saying it may not matter
@crisp zealot everything seems fine with the new build, the only thing I noticed was a white dot in the top right that appears using the fz1e bios, most will probably not see it depending on there tv setting but I use screen fit mode on my lcd tv, it does not appear using the ntsc bios.
All the regressions from the previous build in Need for Speed are gone now. Upgrading it back to playable in the testing sheet. Had no crashes during a race, while pausing, or after a race like I was in the previous build. Honestly, the only minor issue I see left in the game is that the opponent's car still shows some boxes flickering around it briefly at the start of a race. Seems more promient with some cars more than others.
Also upgrading PGA Tour to playable for the first time since the swing gauge is visible enough now to reasonably play the game. Still severe visual corruption in the game though. But definitely playable now. Was able to get a birdy and a par on the first two holes, which I was never able to do before.
I just had a crash in a race when I switched from chase camera to the cockpit camera
Seems to be crashing sometimes when I'm in the cockpit view. You can see the skybox graphics glitching when changing into it, but changing into it isn't causing the crashes.
yes , same for me
I'll have to go back and test some more then.
It often freezes during the race
Did you also install the latest MiSTer main from today?
yes
CHD was going to support Index 2 but I heard Zakk stepped in and told them to stop that.
what the hell
Im an index 02 truther ama
Oh yeah, cockpit view is definitely buggy and crashing. I'll update the sheet. For now, we'll just have to stick to the 3rd-person view options (which I thankfully do!).
Feel free to overwrite my note
Just saw it. Not necessary. I'll leave it as–is.
Up-to-date Index 02 list
@marble jetty can you replace the list in the pins with this one ^^
The problem was that when I sanitized the names in the other list, it stripped out region and demo information for some of them
so this list is a pure grep list that is alphabetized
One thing I can say is I completed ssf2t Europe in chd and did not notice anything missing, but maybe that won’t be the case with certain index02 games
The core may not even know index two exists
at this point given old rips of 3do games didn't even have the index, there probably needs to be some actual proof any of the games even care about it
given the fact the 3DO used some proprietary cdrom filesystem I'm dubious anything even uses it
Yeah, I was going to ask SRG but I didn't want to bug him with my bullshit
(my guess is that it's fine)
Yeah. The thing I noticed:
- It seems to be that some sort of mastering software they made decided indexes start at 1, because there's no 3DO game with an index 0
- It's all either Japanese-made games or Japanese ports of non-Japanese games, with like one exception that actually saw release
- It seems like "INDEX 2" just refers to the end of a track
there's no index 0 because 3DO games are all one track. index 0 is not a thing for the first track
Aren't there PSX and Saturn games with index 0 though? IIRC none have a second data track
plenty of them have audio tracks
I hope there's something to it, bc I've sunk some time into making a distinction 😐
The index issue is only for CHD not Bin/Cue correct?
correct
That was fixed in the last version 🙂
I believe I had not tested it prior to this one; it is encouraging to see that Core is gradually improving
It's encouraging to have a 3do core being worked on to begin with. Looked like it may never happen for a while there.
I think what's most encouraging about it is that once it was released it was pretty much nipped in the bud in terms of functioning pretty well
Normally these things take forever to button up but most people seem to be happy with how it works now and it's been around a month
I've yet to try anything on it but I will soonish
It doesn't have a huge library but it has quite a few exclusives and best versions of some games that weren't exclusive.
Wonder why only the Japanese versions have an index 02 when the US ones don’t.
Might want to look up 'nipped in the bud'
Use your imagination in how a turn of phrase could be used and applied to the context
If the problem is a core not working "well", then nipping it in the bud would be making it work
Nip the bud of not working well... k
Not exactly complimentary of srg320's process, but sure
Oh he's doing fantastic work, I don't know how you could so badly misconstrue what I'm trying to say
lol I’m gonna cosplay Robby here…he meant it nicely. Go back to talking about 3DO. Or hot wings. What chat am I in? Where am I??
Xybur spicy today
I can't help people who don't understand what I'm saying, which is why everyone gets one
Mk2 is definitely a game
Spicy
About as spicy as a carrot
These kids haven’t even seen spicy shit talking
Holy Shit!
I wish I was a kid again
Go to bed son
The sweet embrace of death naps
I do love a good nap
I’m the biggest 3DO fan here and it gets my seal of approval
I highly disagree with the biggest 3do fan part but nice
You may not like it, but this is what peak 3DO fan looks like
Betting I'm bigger.
Nope too late. I cannot be beaten.
because there is one thing I have that you and no one else here does which seals me as the greatest 3DO fan that has ever lived
I have Trip Hawkens in my basement.
HAHAHAHA
We're as original as ChatGPT
You dropped this king, 👑
Yeah I’m absolutely a 3DO tourist lmao
I did play a demo unit as a kid
3DO was my fave console as a teen and NFS is still my fave racer of all time.
That’s my history with it LOL
I say fave because I'm cool and hip.
Being able to enjoy a console “for free” really makes it a lot easier to appreciate the games for what they are
Nah seriously, like if I had to pay an arm and a leg for any retro game I’d be super demanding
Mega CD is another favourite. They had such weird, fun games back then.
Yeah games are way too pricey now. I'm a retro gamer, not a retro collector, so all I need is my MiSTer.
You definitely not a bigger NFS fan coz I have Brenan T. Baird in my basement
Jesus he must be ripe by now. RIP
I was gutted when I found out he died, TBH. He was my childhood! LOL
And I am the biggest NFS fan as I know the actor who plays the cop - Michael St John Smith. So there. Okay, I've interviewed him online but still...
I wouldn't know what the cop looks like
Yeah I never saw him in the game. I'm too fast. I just assumed there must be a cop in there and googled. Honest.
Oh and I made NFS the subject of the final issue of my shitty little game magazine. I AM THE BIGGEST FAN!!
Micheal St John Smith has certainly been in a lot of movies and TV shows im familiar with.
Yeah, he's done loads. Really nice guy. Started acting later in life, too.
Now that 3DO is well on the way to being perfect, what is really left for the little MiSTer?
A ton rofl
Thankfully there's a lot of talented people working on them already
I'm looking forward to cps3, pgm and pcfx
Really? Like what? I can only think of incredibly niche devices with less than stellar libraries... Apple Pippin etc.
Okay, good call - that's three decent ones. I'd like a standalone CD32 core and Apple IIGS
Oh and Tiger Game.com hahahaha
FM Towns/Marty, Mattel HyperScan, Apple Pippin, Super A'Can...
The FM Towns would be amazing. As for the others...
Omg that’s so cool you made a magazine
But yeah I guess there is still a bit of a future ahead!
The remixed soundtrack for ssf2t on 3do comes from the fm towns version.
Or so I've heard
Also the cores for slightly newer macs (not sure if they aredone yet)
Yeah it was an awesome idea to start up a print publication just after the pandemic. Oh well, my bankruptcy ends in December HAHAHA
Yup.
There is a lot of arcade stuff I'd like to see on mister that should be doable
Yeah, I'd particularly like to see more Sega super scalers and hopefully people will add high score saving to games that didn't support it officially. Not sure if that's doable but I hate my scores being wiped!
I wish I had the skills and talent these core devs have...
I think it should be a crime that we don't have rainbow islands or any of the bubble bobble sequels yet.
Parasol Stars on PC Engine, hehe.
Now I want to play Rainbow Islands. What's the best port?
PS1 is good..nes has 2 the us version is not a port of the arcade game it has its own levels..the pal version has arcade levels. Genesis also has a good port
Sega Saturn has a port basically the same as the PS1 version
You can't lose with any of those
Play the PS1 or Saturn enhanced version for the best looking
Oh it's also on PC engine cd
The menus are Japanese so not the best way to play
Yeah I'll try Saturn or PSX
Ooh, I need to add to my Miyoo Mini...
I'd also love to see PC-98. There is a shocking amount of fan translations there.
I played Dead of the Brain 1&2 on a PC-98 emulator. Made me go and download every other translation for that platform I could find
The gamegear and gbc versions are based off the US nes version. Uses the different level layout not the arcade.
Flightstick trigger
Flightstick is analog
thanks
I still feel like this thread should be named “3DO 3DO”, for consistency’s sake
Srg320 doesn't do what Srg320 does for Srg320. Srg320 does what Srg320 does because Srg320 is... Srg320.
srg320's on fire.
Zet, can you compile the core? 😄
I'm finishing my dinner and I launch it.
And, if I could have a core without too much deviation on timings.
no more hangs for me in Need for Speed
I have it, but I was waiting for you 😄
Does anyone else have an issue with the latest core 190426 where it doesn't load a controller by default? I need to go into the menu and specify the number of controllers
wait until today's core is available, Andy. SRG just pushed fixes
someone will build it
Meanwhile, Amazon delivers…
Save settings in the OSD to actually save the core settings
yes , correct, change to 1 and save settings
One day, I will be faster. One day...
Apart from the frame rate, Need for Speed looks perfect now
Immercenary is great so far too 🙂
Random Chinese RAM… good luck
That means it is perfect as the 3do version goes..
Had to Google that lol.
As German, it could be interpreted something else. It's Hitler's birthday which was national holiday in the 3rd Reich 😆
Yikes lol. It's a stoner holiday in the US. It's more of a meme than a holiday though
@marble jetty there's a new core for you to peen
4/20 is a rough day, hitlers birthday, columbine, insufferable weed jokes
GRAGGHHBLAAGHHH I MADE PEEEEEEEEEN
Woohoo! The Shockwave engine noise is fixed. I won't have to play it on mute anymore.
Huh, with today's build, controller input seems to be ignored by the core. Am I the only person seeing this?
Ah, pad has to be set to 1
I see! Sorry
Don’t be, it’s a good reminder for people to check their pad input in every core update as it gets reset sometimes.
Total Eclipse still has those strange little glitches with the renderer, like fast green bars appearing for a frame. In case it's of interest.
I still see some boxes appear briefly around the opponent's car at the start of a race. Also experienced some minor visual corruption in the pause menu once (happened on the first leg of the Coastal course). Also encountered some severe corruption in the second half of the second leg of the Coastal course. Haven't had a chance yet to test the third leg of any of the courses yet to see how they fair!
Feel free to remove me from the entry, I'm leaving testing if that game to others, just thought for yesterday I would add a note
I don't see any boxes
They seem to show up more for some cars than others. Try to have him use the green car (forget what it's called). It's very noticable with that one.
Haven't got to it yet but plan to since it's a game I actually owned on 3do
That game is tough you can go from "oh I got this!" To your guts splattered on the wall in seconds..lol
The genestealers are scary to me right up there with xenomorphs.
The new Random Chinese RAM was a total success. Thanks for your good luck 😎
"I see Western man you are addicted to the 'Memtest'. Would be real bad for you if your wife were to find out..."
No it goes to Robby now remember?
Rubber bullets don't grow on trees
i feel like the sliding when you fall off your bike sound effect was missing before this latest core but i might be wrong
Gonna try this out tonight. Anyone have any recommended software to convert iso to bin/cue? been a long time since I have done that and want to check out the new MKII homebrew port but it's only downloadable as an iso
oh rad!
based on some screenshots assuming this is good to use on CRTs? or is there extra ini settings needed for that?
the core that is
Not sure on that front since I use my modern TV.
Works fine on a crt
Wish I had room for a CRT.
Hello, I'm unable to get my controller to work with the 3DO core. I'm using a Bliss adapter for the Saturn, a 2.4ghz Retro-bit Saturn wireless controller with Saturn wireless receiver. This controller setup seems to work fine with other cores. I have the dual ram version of MiSTer
awesome. So stoked to try 3DO. Never played it before
Did you go into input settings and turn on the controller? It's off by default.
Yep
Pad 1
The 3DO games I've tried load up fine, btw
I save the Pad 1 settings, even tried Pad 2, no dice
You don't have another controller on at the same time?
Nope
Hmm, not sure then.
Do I need to be running an unstable MiSTer?
Yes for the latest 3DO core builds that support saving and such. Otherwise those features won't work. Not sure if it affects controller input though.
Have you tried other controllers on the core?
Yeah, I tried a PS1 controller with a PS1 blisss adapter
Which worked fine on the PSX core
And did that one work?
Nope
If no controllers are working, then I'd use the latest unstable MiSTer main and see if that fixes it.
And this is with whatever 3DO core came with update_all, as well as the 4/20 one
Cool, I'll just install the unstable MiSTer update then. Thank you!
Wait, it was good?
I remember reading up on the M2 in NextGen magazine like 30 years ago, looking at the console designs, the colors of the consoles and thinking it was gonna put the 3DO back on track
I was let down
I think there were even screenshots of games in development
And what disappoints me most if that Panasonic was a beast in the MSX-era. Their MSX computers were some of the most sought-after
Is that a new memory tester? Didn't know we had one for dual ram
whoa yeah I’ve never seen that either
Id be more curious if it can run Dead or Alive's attract mode on Saturn for more than 20 minutes
I don't think it's been properly vetted yet, seemed AI generated from the first post and was seemingly giving someone incorrect results
Yea dual ram mem test released recently https://github.com/alijani1/MemTest256
It dosen't detect my second stick 🙁
stick’s bad, toss it in the 🗑️
I'm not familiar with this game. Could you provide step-by-step instructions on how to reproduce the issue?
- Boot Need For Speed. 2. Select the car option and change to the Porsche 911. 3. Start the race (select the ignition key).
During the camera zoom into your car you will see some transparent black squares that look like a badly clipped shadow quad. The camera has to be sufficiently far away from the car. The "sweet spot" for the camera occurs during the zoom in at the start of the race and the zoom out at the checkpoints/finish line. From the third person camera (C button), you might see it if you crash at high speed and the camera has to pull back when your car flips.
Thank you. Now I see.
I can see that on my car. But what problems does my opponent's car have?
The Porsche shadow is squared (flickering) for both your car and your opponent’s.
I see. I guess I need to try a few more times.
There are also some flickering dots in the grass… if we’re being picky about this amazing core
This happens on the original hardware as well.
People still love the game gear so i think we’d be fine
I love both!
I owned one and kinda hated it lol
N-Gage was my first cell phone that wasn't a hand-me-down Siemens
Oh wow, was it really as bad as a cell phone as everyone said?
it was functional
I was the punching taco bag in school but it was functional
but I had all the cool PS1 games on my phone in an age before PSP and Android phones
To settle your curiosity, 40mins running ok so far (Saturn_20250927.rbf from your repo). Kinda boring attract mode (half FMV, half short fight)
Thanks for helping with this! I only just woke up...👀
Where can I find the changelog for new versions?
#1329170138234097745 message
Or github
It's probably not obvious (the UI was trying to be "no text" and I don't think they succeeded in making it intuitive), if you highlight the dude's face and use the LShift and RShift buttons you change his car. Something about the green Porsche is causing the glitch, so when you have both your car and the opponent's car as the Porsche, you'll see twice as many artifacts- or at least twice as many chances to see the green artifacts. In fact the easiest way to see the artifacts is to have the opponent be the green Porsche and tail behind him by a few car lengths and the green square will flicker in and out of existence if you keep close to him during the race. I think it's only really visible from the chase camera (from first-person, press C twice).
Nice. Should be good then
At the local yearly 'Atari invasion of the Commodore club'. The three Lynxes at the front and the Portfolio are mine 🙂 I also have collected almost all commercially released games and programmed a few small demos for it.
That’s a lot of lynxs
"Gasp"
While looking a pic of the mpeg decoder module, I wonder if they intended release games with mpeg capabilities under the brand "3do digital video"
I see Tod's adventure in slime world peeking out over there
Great game
Best version
I haven't played any other version
But still...
Best version
Such a great multi player game
Also Best version of California Games is on the Lynx
Yeah, love the surfing game. The BMX game is tricky, but doable with practice
I'm the only person in the universe who figured out how to do the halfpipe
I believe you, never even remotely got the hang of that one
I might be the only one enjoying Hard Drivin' on the Lynx
I preferred Chequered Flag
Also a fun one with multiple players
The framerate gets faster with your speed 😄 It is frustratingly difficult, but rewarding when you improve
I also had "Hockey!"
Some Lynx games have really nice music. It has an interesting audio chip, evolved typical Atari sound
"Hockey" has great half time music
Yeah, true. I'm trying to remember the name of the shooter where you fly around with a jetpack, it has fantastic game over music. I don't mean Xenophobe (which I like more than the arcade version).
0:00 - Title Theme
2:00 - National Anthems
2:09 - Hit the Puck
2:35 - Game Stats
3:04 - Shootout
Listen dis
Beautiful
Hmmm blue lightning maybe
No that's a jet fighter game
Here we go https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AHhKDKQu7h4
This video was made as sort of a statement, because so many people keep saying that the Lynx was so "inferior" to the Game boy when it came to sound. The main reason for this was the fact that In-Game music required processing power from the Lynx' chips that most programers wanted to use for the main game. So quite a lot of Lynx games only have ...
They made the beach volleyball game as well. And I think the golf game
Or was it tennis 😄
Rampage had some cool music as well
Also lots of fun with multiple players
Yeah, sounds quite similar.
Oh, it was the golf game as well, not the tennis one
This power factor music is awesome brosef!
Right? I always thought it was really odd that they faded it out quickly at the title screen, but then played it fully after game over.
Ill have to check out the game. We should probably let this thread get back to 3DO
😆
Oh wait I also had batman returns
Couldn't get past the first level
Same lol
Now I know who to hassle about Lynx stuff
hah you think you get paid
I also get to annoy you tho. And you know what they say, if you love what you do....
blocked and refunded
IM GETTING PAID
which is the best lynx
Lynx 2, better battery life, you can turn the screen off, more comfortable to hold and full stereo panning per channel when using headphones.
With the original display you can do color blending tricks and it can handle the variable framerate. Modern replacement displays have better sharpness, contrast and colors and can be more energy efficiënt.
My Lynx 2 with replacement display also has a VGA output connector
And my original Lynx 2, from back in the day, was signed by one of its creators, RJ Mical
I added an overclocking option to my Lynx 1 😄
HRRRR NGGGGGG MY RETRO IS DISTENDED EUUUUUGHHHHH
guys can we please stay on topic
Man, every time I visit there seems to be a new core update and they're getting better every time. Thank you SOOOOO much for this core @crisp zealot - the 3DO is one of my favourite machines of all time. I was lucky enough to have had one back in the day, so this core makes me happy 😄
A friend sold me a goldstar 3do and like 5 games in the early 2000s for $50. Best $50 I ever spent.
It's the reason I'm a bit nostalgic for the goldstar model even tho it's not really the best.
Holy shit
lol fml
wow
lol i still own my 3do. Not sure if it works but i have it.
Not to nit pick but wouldn't a real 3do fan also know if their 3do works or not?
I wonder if this fixes travel mystery https://github.com/MiSTer-devel/Main_MiSTer/pull/1162
I know 99.99% chances and all that, but I am going to go out on a limb and say that probably nobody loved the R-Zone or HyperScan
I just had a random thought about just how much I love the R-Zo...I...I mean, how much I hate the R-Zone! (laughs nervously)
It’s technically topical considering that the engineers who worked on the Amiga and created the Atari Lynx hardware also did so for the 3DO as well
68040 core, Apple Performa or Quadra 900/950, Mac OS System 7.x/8.1, PPC 603 CPU. Maybe early IRIX system like an SGI Indy.
I had an Indy at work for a while, I'd love an SGI core. Particularly if it had the Indy startup and shutdown sounds. I should still have all the IRIX installation media.
I had the Goldstar one too. Bought it new here in NZ. Was cheaper than the Panasonic. The 3DO was never officially released here so we had to make do with imported units - although that was fine with me as it meant no crappy PAL borders and limited speed!
An SGI core would be awesome. Wonder if that's doable? One thing I REALLY want is cores for Yamaha sequencing hardware like the QY70 and QY100, hehe.
The N64 used an R4k CPU, my Indy had an R5k but they came with R4ks as well.
It would be neat to do some 3D modelling on the MiSTer in an SGI core, haha.
The Indy would be a bit slow for that, GLX to a Linux system was faster than the true color framebuffer in the Indy I had. 😹 Maya running on MiSTer though.
SGI was discussing co-ownership of the Amiga technology with Commodore before the latter acquired Amiga. Somehow giving SGI a few degrees of separation to 3DO.
Early Silicon Graphics models used the same Motorola CPUs as the Amiga
Almost every company that had a 16 bit computer used the 68000 at some point
It was in the Mega Drive too
gross
MSX did quite well in its target markets though
I see there was a newer unstable fix, not had chance to test it yet
3DO: increase buffer for the CUE file string (fixed long file paths) '```
Reminds me of when the game.com and n-gage advertising tried to claim the gameboy is basically a toy for kids, didn't go so well
Try this for dual ram
Hello, someone say dip switches and I'm here
ahem
You don't need to flip any dip switches if you are using a 9.2 generation IO board. That includes Taki's board, Legacy Pixel's board, MisterAddon's modern boards, and the Analog 9.2 board from Ultimate Mister
Like mentioned below, you don't need to do that anymore on the newer boards. The other second ram memory test and every dual Ram core works fine on my system, just that memory test fails to detect the second stick
Yes sir, that’s what i had to do. It wasnt being detected before.
No addon boards for my setup
What’s the “other” memory tester for duals?
I think it's called 2ndmemtest or something like that, tests only the second stick
Is it still recommended to run latest unstable mister main for 3dO compatibility?
Yes
Has anyone tried Star Control II out? Does it run good?
I tested the japanese version for 10 minutes recently and it seemed fine to me
Awesome. I think I am gonna try to get into that tonight
Marked Need for Speed as completable on the testing sheet. Beat the "X-Man" (yes, that's his name) on all three segments on all three routes. Still love this game.
Did you check the ice segment
Yes, I said I did all three segments on all three routes!
The only segment that has some issues is the second segment of the Coastal route.
RIP X-Man. Gone but never forgotten in our 3DO hearts!
Man I don't get it. I have the latest unstable mister main, and the latest 3DO core, and I still cant save. I always get insufficient storage 😭
On NFS? Try running something to clear the NVRAM. There are memory managers I believe but I loaded up Wolfenstein and it cleared it for me. No idea but I did that after a mate did it and NFS then worked - no insufficent storage message.
on any game. Some games will even say they saved, but it never writes it to the card like how say in PSX, you save, you load the mister menu and it says saving real quick. doesnt happen here.
Weird. This might help: https://consolemods.org/wiki/3DO:Storage_Manager#:~:text=Hold L or R and,on jewel case and disc.
Storage Manager is an application that allows you to remove individual game saves from your 32KB of internal memory. While there is a dedicated Storage Manager disc that came with the Panasonic FZ-EM256 (256 KB Expandable Memory Unit) released in Japan, there are a few games that have the Storage Manager...
I tried that too, it says the memory is 100% free
i also read to delete the 3do.cfg on the sd card too, tried that and still won't save
I don't think saving is fully supported yet - NFS saves for me automatically but Road Rash doesn't work (I thought it did but didn't). I'm not getting errors though, just the initial one I had with NFS...
Some games give errors, others don't, like Slayer will say memory is full, and that's that, I tried to Save in Star Control 2 and it said it saved, but then upon reload nothing there
Ah okay, it's probably just that the core isn't finished. I thought you meant the ram error that stopped NFS from booting.
Games run great n stuff, It's no biggie. the core will be ready when it's ready. It's fun just to mess around with stuff on it for now and see imrpovements. I can always use my real 3do (no pun intended) in the meantime
I've had good luck with things mostly saving I believe, can't say I've noticed issues with anything not saving for me yet
I have only played NFS and Road Rash. I need to get into some more games when I have the time. But when I turn on a 3DO I HAVE to play NFS. LOL.
That's fair, i gotta try those for longer than 10 mins one of these days
I recorded a few more games with potential issues from the original hardware for comparison. https://youtu.be/L-ZrRFdRaOE
Mad Dog McCree, Twisted - The Game Show, Yuujou Densetsu - The Doraemons, SHADOW - War of Succession, The Need for Speed, PO'ed, MegaRace, Flying Nightmares, Gakkou no Kowai Uwasa - Hanako-san ga Kita!!, Dragon Lore - The Legend Begins (Disc 1)
Thank you for your work on this core. the 3DO was my favorite console growing up and it's so awesome that playing it on my Mister is becoming a reality
@crisp zealot as for the 3DO based arcade machines, were there any differences, or were they 1:1 hardware compatible?
I'm no expert on 3DO. All I can say is that the games run.😀
ok thanks :))
I don't know anything about 3DO
but testing and gaming bring me a lot of joy, great work !
I tested 4 arcade versions and 4 beta versions of the games. They all ran fine.
I don't have time for more testing.
3do M2 ? 😀?
According to Wikipedia, there are 8 arcade games? Are they in mame?
for arcade - Rename the 3do_arcade_saot.bin file to cd_bios.rom and place it in the game folder or parent folder.
I made an experimental erase command of the VRAM pages. This erase is used in some games, such as Seal of the Pharaoh, Space Hulk, Star Wars. These changes could cause a lot of regression!
Nishimura Kyoutarou Travel Mystery - Akugyaku no Kisetsu - Tokyo Nanki Shirahama Renzoku Satsujin Jiken (Japan) -> Working with bin/cue !
I remember renting Theme Park for my 3DO console back in the day and sometimes when building a big park the game would freeze. Just thought I’d put that out there as showing that it did have issues on my real console.
American Laser Games 3DO System This is the 1993 Matte Top 3DO modified to a proprietary state for arcade use in American Laser Games cabinets. The only hardware difference between these units and …
See link I just sent
Thanks !
Am I reading it right that arcade games are now playable?
seems like they are just normal games with a different bios
I don't think the exclusives ever came out
I dunno. I just know I can’t play the beavis and butthead beat em up
I had no idea there were arcade exclusives on 3do.
Correct
One game (Beavis and butthead) has an expanded spec. But that’s never been dumped. No matter how hard I try to convince galloping ghost
is that who has it?
yeah
I saw it was someone in chicago
they dont allow anyone to dump it
wtf why
they have a like 2-3 rare pcbs, i believe that they want to keep
you can go there and play the game but its typical anti-preservationist thought process
that is some "belongs in a museum" ass shit.
old timers want to keep the "value" of what they have
its an otherwise cool arcade, worth a visit, but its lame that they are that way about it
I like Galloping Ghost. I just think that sucks
I guess what I should say is that I don't care if they want to preserve their value - I get it, that's fine.
But I hope someone has dumped it. even if they have to keep it private until galloping ghost closes or the machine dies
I think the idea of trying to preserve your value in the face of losing a game permanently is fucking abhorrent. And folks that do that should not be allowed to have artifacts like that.
they've contacted me for help with the board in the past (or someone from there has) and I said I'd take care of whatever they needed so long as they dump it for preservation and my time is free
I can imagine it now, pointing out things that need replacing
id bring two cat pens for it
Dog pen fans in shambles.
It’s a shame it looks like a fun game
Right? It's apparently terrible
but I'd love to play it
I guess I can go to known preservationists, the Galloping Ghost, and play it there
and maintain its value
sounds like a fun break-in heist
just make sure to return it after documenting the hardware
Rotten boomer brain
1997 Atari 3DO
- 2 million 3do systems manufactured
- 6 million computer chips
BUT
ONLY 5 produced with extra ram
This is why I will let it rot and decay so the 4 yearly people interested can pay me an admission fee
"I got mine"
dog pen doesn't get enough love its true
this core disappeared from my mister today after running updateall. How can I get it back?
I removed it from the dual ram repo because that core is a month old (and the core no longer requires dual ram). Check the pins for the latest version. You can also install the WIP repo in order to have update all install it
I am pretty worthless with this thing when it comes to do anything other than running the updateall script..
oh well it's super easy. if you're putting stuff on your mister, how do you do it? do you pop the SD card out? FTP into the mister?
pop out the sd card normally but I just tried to ftp into it using mister companion and dont see the "meedia" folder to put your two updater scripts in
media*
what do you see when you ftp in? anything? empty folder?
hmm nope not on mine
ok, see if you can go up a level
you logged in with username: root and password: 1, yeah?
yes
those are the only folders. going up a level just takes me to my network devices
hmm, I wonder if windows is just not seeing it. let's just pop the SD card out and do it that way
those two ini files will go into the same folder that you see MiSTer and downloader and your core directories
yeah. ok I'll do it that way. thanks for your help
filezilla sees it through ftp. so, just put those two scrip files in the fat folder?
probably in the scripts folder in the fat folder
No, /media/fat. where the downloader.ini file is
Ok I got it on the mister if I go to unstable. But once I'm in, my controller no longer works. It works in all the stable cores through
Fixed it by plugging in a ps5 controller instead of using llapi 8bitdo SNES controller
Lol but the video for the core is just a tiny vertical stripe on the far left of the screen
I would be very surprised if GG doesn't have their own backup somewhere
I hope they do
Does the new version of the core require an unstable mister main?
Is it safe to assume this isn't referring to save memory but some RAM that never gets cleared until reboot?
Feels like it was only after 2 or 3 races since the last restart.
That's a ram thing
I know on a FZ-10 model 3DO the ram must be different somehow because i had this issue with Road Rash on my FZ-10 but not my FZ-1
Does anyone manage to play an audio cd in the 3do core ?
I really liked the visualizer
I could not here (despite my test chd was playing in other cores)
Believe it's not supported yet
I know with the European release of Road Rash they made a new revision because of problems on the FZ-10
Oh nice. I didn't know that!
Damn even 3do effected by RAM prices
Just anvil fz10.
Is there any way to resolve that race music issue with Road Rash on an Anvil FZ10, or are you just stuck playing it without music? EDIT: Just Googled it, and there's no workaround.
Thanks google... thoogle
lol
There is a work around if there is an ODE in use.
Nice! Sergey stamp of approval!
woo
3DO core updates cheer me up
PAL still not enabled for you rare 3D0 Pal breed 🙂 .OUT_CLK(/!PAL ?/ 24545400 /: 29500000/),
but thats ok, there are less than dozens of you
I think it works. I think you need to swap the bios?
PAL works. But I don't use the 29.5 MHz frequency for PAL because I don't know the proper settings.
780dot * 313row * 50frame * 2 = 24414000Hz. I have no idea where 29.5MHz comes from.
Will 3DO also start getting automated unstable builds, srg?
I don't know. What do I need to do for that?
Good question. I can't remember. Maybe @deft gull knows
Hey, I didn't know you were here, great to see you around! I've sent you an invitation to the organization. The instructions are here: https://github.com/MiSTer-unstable-nightlies/Build-Automation_MiSTer#how-to-add-an-official-repository-to-unstable-nightlies
I can help doing that after the 5th of May if it couldn't be done earlier
@dire sinew If you want, I can send you an invite too
Instructions are pretty simple
I am already a big enough valor thief, but thank you ❤️
I’ll send it anyway.. if you decline, I’ll pretend it never happened 😄
Dis just got R•E•A•L.
780 is NTSC ? PAL is 944?
Do you know it or do you assume it?
I didn't find any information about this in the datasheets.
update all eh?
the core is in?
no
vgesoooooooooooterica lied to me
Just unstable nightlies now. Which can be added to update all, but not by default.
"update_some"
Any idea why the core would only be displaying a thin vertical stripe of video on the far left side of the screen?
hmdi or CRT
HDMI. No other cores do it
delete 3do.cfg in the /config directory
Ok I'll try that. Thanks
I've got 3 different ones. 3dogamma.cfg 3dosclaler.cfg 3doshmask.cfg
delete them all
I don't know how but the 3DO core is working happily on my PAL CRT
My issue remains
In Wing Commander 3, are the random red, blue and yellow dots (stars?) supposed to be there in the flight sequences, or is space supposed to be black? I can't tell if they're glitchy pixels or not.
there are plenty of videos on youtube you can check, like https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vrh4GFvbkQQ
Wing Commander III: Heart of the Tiger (ORIGIN Systems, 1995, 3DO), Orsini System - Patrol, running on 4DO emulator (25 MHz overclock).
I've looked at those and they're too washed out to tell definitively
I'm gonna have to hook up my FZ1 and play the game. It's been years, and I can't remember
seems pretty easy to tell to me from 23:00 onward from that video
They might be intentional. They're brighter on Mister. Yeah, gonna have to check it out on real hardware
One interesting thing is the intro to Slayer. the Mister core handles it exactly like a 3DO emulator does. There's a delay when the fire beast actually spews out his fireball on the mister and emulators compared to real hardware
For Need for Speed I couldn't start (start button doesn't seem to work) is there anything I need to check ?
I don’t know if there were any PAL exclusives so I assume PAL support is not that important.
There are some games that refuse to run without a PAL bios
I see I will try with PAL bios thanks 🙂
I don't think Need for Speed is one of those games that will complain about not having PAL bios but guess it's worth a try
Need for speed seems to be working for me
Yes it works with PAL bios ^^
Ok I know operation jump gate was an expansion that added 5 missions to shockwave. I'm assuming if get the operation jump gate disc image it contains everything from the base game too?
Nevermind looking at the file sizes probably not
Operation Jumpgate doesn't have the first shockwave on it
And it will only work if it reads a save file from the first shock wave on the console.
I guess the next logical question is will the mister allow it to detect the save files?
I would assume as with others similar cores, if you want to share save data between games, you're going to need to put those games into the same folder. The default functionality is to have completely independant saves for each game, based on the folder the game disc images are stored in on your SD card or other.
So, this probably works just fine, you'll just have to put the games in the same folder.
Striker
So I used a workaround I've used for other systems. I made 2 separate folders for shockwave and operation jump gate but made a subfolder with the same name as the folder for the base game so as far as mister with saves it's the same folder. And it works.
Saving seems hit and miss at the moment
Yeah I'm not counting on saves much right now but I am putting 3do games on my mister and making sure the file structure accommodates it when it's a bit more stable.
And that trick works for other systems too so you don't have to constantly move around and change save file names
So far Guardian War is working.
The boxes that appear around the X-Man's car in Need for Speed is finally fixed with today's update! Still need to test further to see if the corruption near the end of the Coastal route's second segment is fixed or not. And I need to see if I can still replicate the pause menu corruption (this one is always difficult to reproduce, as it seems random and doesn't appear super often).
