It's called being ahead of the curve! The West wasn't ready for the brilliance of the Saturn or Mr. Big!

Has anyone used the misteraddons aluminum case on a mister pi stack? I know the io plates won't line up but just curious

Also any idea when they will get back in stock?

I believe @inner terrace mentioned on his discord that he was putting in an order for cases soon.

So no, it won't work in any MA case configuration

I decided to make a PN532 NFC USB C Module capable zaparoo 64DD base for the N64 case. I have no interest in running zaparoo cards, but i figured I would make one for the community. Only thing im not sure is on my slot, what kind of clearances are required for the NFC card so my current model slot might be a little loose. The NFC reader can either be glued down with adhesive tape, or 4 small screws inserted.

This is going to go on sale at some point this month. Our first batch (the $149 autographed founders edition) has a finite, but not small, supply. Prior customers (friends) have a guarantee spot.

man those take me back (was in film industry ages ago)

#

best CRTs were the one that came in roadcases and yokes for video village

#

film video taps (composite lol)

#

funny that we gripe so much about image quality on CRTs and back then we'd get the worst looking unimaginable dogshit image from a video tap to film some of cinema's greatest images. (only way to actually judge the image was through a dim optical viewfinder)

#

For those who don't know. Basically the only way anyone can see anything from a film movie camera other than the operator looking through the eyepiece is a beamsplitter (the tap) that would project a dim portion of the already dim eyepiece image into a piece of frosted glass, then a tiny video camera would record that flickering shitty image and output it as composite video for viewing on monitors

#

only recently (in the last 5-10 years) have some of those taps been replaced with HD mini cameras but thats really only big budget camera packages which have all fallen out of favour

@stray shore - you dont have any washer pushing up your top pi case plate. Did you run into any problem plugging the mt32 lite all the way in?

The top of the MT32Pi PCB goes just under the line of the top of the Mister PI.

Nice, looks like it will fit or can fir with a little adjustment. Trying to do some homework before buying since it’s going to take a long time and probably impossible to return.

If there’s a controller that goes by a different name but looks like a Saffun, it’s the same exact controller.

#

My guess is, whoever made the mold for Nintendo’s NSO controller sold the manufacturing plans to other companies and they’re all pumping them out. Reselling manufacturing molds and plans can happen in Chinese manufacturing, hence all the bootlegs.

digital estuary
wanton trench

Awesome

sacred flint
#

they will likely need slides in the molds which can increase the price a lot

wanton trench
#

say what now

sacred flint
#

namely all of the usb port slots

#

the snac psx controller ports and all of the usb ports will need some kind of slide design

wanton trench
#

Ahh I think I get what you mean

sacred flint
#

if you look at the animation from taht site

#

look at how it slides into where the yellow is and leaves some gaps open

#

designing and milling/edm'ing out a mold that needs slides can raise costs a lot, but in china it's probably just a few thousand bucks more

wanton trench
#

yeah I think I actually understand that's pretty cool

sacred flint
#

in this hobby space if someone even gets to the economy of scale to justify molding (easier in china since it's dramatically cheaper to mold there), usually you design all of the ports to be at the intersection of the top and bottom half of the housing

#

so you don't have to do slides

#

the mold/molds to do what taki is wanting to do... probably would need at least 2 molds minimum and that would be pushing it because if you try to make too many components at once in it, you are going to run into potential flow issues

#

you've got...

  1. r2one housing top
  2. r2one housing bottom
  3. dock housing top
  4. dock housing bottom
  5. power button and menu button (possibly reversible design)
  6. composite cover
  7. toslink cover
  8. 2x memory card covers

this is pretty complex already but not too complex for chinese mold designers and molders, piece of cake for them

wanton trench
sacred flint
#

yup, it's a similar concept sorta

onyx trout

Hey all, have a question and I'm not sure it's unique to the Pi board or not. Building a set up with the Mister Pi that I've had for a while and I'm finally getting around to adding a reset button to the case. In my old build with the De-10 nano I swore I just wired to ground and pin 17 on GPIO to make this work. I can't seem to get reset working on the Mister Pi. There should be nothing unique about the GPIO header and reset functions on this board, right?

The header is the same, but on the newer boards there must be the chip populated on the other side. To save io pins, the design and work is different. A pure fan only board of the new design will not work for this.

But i guess that makes sense

no one makes a back plate for that but it’s a bit of a niche within a niche so not surprising

Todd has a generic mister case like that one, would still need to either be dremeled (or edited in the slicer) but it might work too

The MD for SuperStation one has finished. We are now sending this out for a CNC sample before opening the mold.

Has anyone tried Taki's Level Shifter (batch 2 bonus) with other Snac adapters?

delicate hazel

In regards to the above. I had a response from the vendor that I brought some snac adapters from

Nat said that I could use the level shifter that came with the Mister Pi as they are the same.

Can anyone recommend and in-line usb-c power switch? Just tried one from amazon.de and of course it doesn’t work at all…

Retro Frog

This is a USB-C to USB-C adapter for the MiSTer Pi console with built in switch. This is specifically for the RetroRemake MiSTer Pi as it requires USB-C power. This isn't for the original DE10-nano or QMTech boards as they take 5v barrel power. See my other listing for adapters for those.  I have designed this adapter

#

but if you want something quick from amazon, both the raspberry pi 4 and 5 switches are good (depending on what kind of switch you want)

Friend of mine just got his Batch 3 (he pre ordered) and I had to do some soldering on it, pin connector that connects the USB board to the other board was so full of solder you couldn't push them together.

But they refunded him the cost of components so that's good. Had to buy a 100 to get 1 but cheaper than sending it back and waiting.

faint dune
cursive crypt
#

They offered to pay up to $35 to send it back, but then he'd be waiting even longer, so he found the pin connectors and asked if I could swap it, 2min job with a Hakko setup and they refunded him $21 (USD and the parts were CAD so he made out like a bandit)

have there been any recent reports on memory instability? Taki offered me a 1.5V instead of waiting for more 1.6V stock, the only difference being the built-in SDRAM

solid stratus
#

Applies for separate or on-board ram

final folio
#

yeah that's what I'm betting on. I went with 1.5V mostly to have the option of experimenting with different and perhaps future RAM kits

#

hidden bonus of being on the tail end or orders, I got them to add a batch 2 snes snac adapter to my order. €5 + tax is a steal

delicate hazel

The memory shenanigans happened with batch 1 I believe. Then things improved with batch 2 (i got mine in batch 2)

I have been using one of Takis SDram boards in my DE10 build with no issues. Oddly my SDram from a recommended supplier was showing errors in testing but never noticed anything when in use

I searched around a bit when they gave me the options but couldn't find anything recent, so I thought I'd ask. Thanks

late rover
#

Has there been any documented issues with hdmi out on takis boards? I have a tv that just straight up stopped cooperating with mine. It just gets no signal from it whatsoever. I do suspect it might be the tv though since it's the only device it refuses to work on.

limber token
#

Never heard of hdmi problems. As it is version 1.4 it should work mostly on every tv .

winged summit
#

There are the cec problems but that happens to de10nano too

late rover
#

Mine worked for a while too but it just stopped getting a signal at some point. I am still leaning towards the samsung tv just being a bit crap.

solid stratus
delicate hazel
#

I had to do that with my TCL TV after tinkering around with the video scale options in mister

Before I changed the scale modes, 'game mode' would work fine on my TV.

After I changed the scale, there would be so much lag. But using 'pc mode' on my TV fixed it all

late rover
solid stratus
#

Weird. Yeah, I blame Samsung. Firmware update on the TV maybe?

late rover
#

I think I tried that too. At least did a full factory reset or whatever it was called.

#

It's not a huge issue for me since I bought the thing to be used with my crts anyway. Still annoying though.

faint dune
#

Try a vanilla mister.ini

#

With no changes

#

And see if it shows up then

#

Just yesterday I leaned that you can’t have vrr and vsync adjust 0 enabled at the same time. If you’re doing crt stuff, it’s possible that there is something in the ini that is gumming up the works

patent knoll
#

I messed up once in the .ini and had it set to a 50hz mode, so worth double checking

dense umbra
#

If the Pi follows the DE10 for HDMI then the CEC is grounded and can cause lots of issues with TVs and ARC
You can get CEC strippers cheap

The other issue the DE10 has is the HDMI is not power isolated so the board can partially power up from HDMI power if using a switch, I don't know if the PI is the same

I know the CEC issues are fixed on the QMtech board though

Snagged a PI earlier in the week to play around with

Did Taki shut down orders to the US because of the tariff stuff? (Would make sense, it's just poorly communicated on the site if that's the case)

Anyone else annoyed by the fan sound? Swapped a Noctua into mine last night, testing tonight but was a straightforward upgrade besides my clumsiness in keeping track of the exact orientation for the bottom case piece

#

Still, at this price point no real complaints

winged summit

Change it to 3.3v

You have to pull out the L shaped av board.

dim delta
oblique drum
#

If you don't want to use analog out, pretty much, yes.

warm olive
# dim delta So that board is unnecessary?

You can either choose to install the analog board for outputting to CRTs, which works simultaneously with the digital output if I recall correctly, so you could output to an LCD and CRT at the same time, or instead installing a second RAM stick if you do not want to use the analog board. It's either or.
