If anyone was curious about Legacy of Darkness having a weird aggressive camera orbit, that was the core mapping analog and D pad functions to the same input. The D pad controls the camera in Legacy, but not CV64

wanton sun
#

was it the core or the user mapping up/down/left/right to stick? 😉

Haha thanks. I’m “off the clock” today still. Coffee then Christmas tree then drinks and dinner with friends. Szechuan Chinese baby!

I have a vid at 4 though. Tucked something extra away for the post thanksgiving crowd

szechuan? is it spicy?

Szechuan peppers are def diff than sambal though. Tons of diff varieties. Diff flavor

Anyway... Good morning everyone

worn delta
#

Come on chaps, food chat in the food channel please. Cool it on the gifs

stiff condor
#

The new RAM I ordered is broken so I'm using an old stick. No Portal 64 for me. 😦

daring meteor
#

We could use that for Golf

worn delta
stiff condor
#

Apparently. Smash Remix doesn't boot either

worn delta
#

Ah, interesting. How large are the rom files?

weary palm
worn delta
#

That image doesn't seem relevant to the N64... Let's keep things on topic please

stiff condor
#

I don't know what the size of the ROM files are off the top of my head, but I know they are fairly large comparative to other games

#

That's what I did but if was faulty so it's going back so I can get a replacement

worn delta
#

I may be misremembering but I thought everything retail was meant to work with 32MB stick. Is that correct? So if that is the case is interesting if there are homebrew that need 64/128MB

stiff condor
#

I've been mostly experimenting with ROM hacks

worn delta
#

If you don't have an analogue iO board and wind up with a spare 32MB then pop that in slot B and you have a dual ram set up 🙂

weary palm
#

smash remix is 65 536 000 bytes

worn delta
#

Is that larger than the biggest retail?

weary palm
#

No, biggest retail is 67 108 864 bytes

stiff condor
#

Maybe I can check it again but I thought it didn't boot

worn delta
#

Hmm, as are we sure Smash Remix doesn't run on 32MB but the biggest retail does, and Remix works on 128MB?

#

This seems suspicious

stiff condor
#

Interesting

worn delta
#

On 32MB or 128MB?

weary palm
#

128

stiff condor
#

Well yes it will boot with 128

#

I have 32MB

weary palm
#

You can't even load OoT on 32, can you?

worn delta
#

This is what I am wondering, do all retail actually work with 32MB?

weary palm
#

They shouldn't 😐

#

The SRAM is used for other stuff than cartridge storage

stiff condor
#

I don't have oot on my MiSTer but I have Majora's Mask Redux and it works

worn delta
#

What ROM pack are you using?

#

Advice is to use HTGDB Everdrive pack or no intro

weary palm
#

Perhaps it works for a bit but as soon as it tries to load from unloaded ROM it'll crash

stiff condor
#

My archive is no intro

weary palm
#

wait, I'll try to find what Robert wrote about this

desert crow
#

sdram is used for the rom iirc and all those bytes have to go somewhere

weary palm

I would say
32MB if you want to play anything up to ~24MB,
64MB if you want to play anything up to ~56MB and
128MB for the rest. 🙂

The general approach of striving for accuracy of the mister cores is what I love about this project so much. With software emulation, especially on convenient/low powered stuff like the Pi, I always have concerns in the back of my mind that slowdown is caused by my use of underpowered hardware (I don’t have a killer machine connected to my TV). Having confidence that any slowdown is because it’s accurate gives me a warm fuzzy feeling. 😅

Split save files into eep, sra, fla, mpk and tpk
Add "wide" tag detection to database. Auto-switches to widescreen if found.
Prioritize N64-database_user.txt, so that people can override games already in the regular database file.
Honour order that rpak, cpak and tpak are written in database, for p1 controller.

Mario Tennis TPAK use is probably the most interesting use case I've ever seen!

First linking the GB game to N64 allows trasfer of GB characters, adding to N64 roster.
Back on GB core, you've got new Mario charcters, and sets of character themed minigames for each of them.
Beat level 1, unlock 2, endless level 3.
(After mixed online reports, I can confirm just beating level 3 with a score of 100 is not enough to get N64 unlocks. Surprisingly even 223 was not enough, but 246 was. I struggled to get to 250/300. Glad I tried another transfer. Who knows what score is needed for each minigame......)
GB minigames unlock N64 unique course.
Certainly alot of back and forth. Thanks to @weary palm, that step at least only took a very quick file rename and transfer to GB/N64 save folders.

Well, if there is a way to see if a GB ROM is even loaded at all. If not, I can imagine people playing various TPAK supporting games with no GB ROM, and Rumble might be preferred

trim seal
#

Ok, that's it - in the ROW category, there's only one game left that doesn't boot, which is Banjo Tooie (Australia). Everything else in ROW is at least playable. I haven't re-tested all the ones that were already marked as playable, just the ones that were no-boots or boots only, so this won't reveal regressions or improvements beyond playable, but it's nice to see the progress.

random portal
#

how does the save file splitting work in the mister main test build?

#

is it an option to allow different save types to exist for a game? or is it a tool for save file transferring?

chrome quest
#

Previously the whole save was just one file. Now it splits into every sub section; base save, CPAK (if used), TPAK (if used)
If you use the test build with existing saves, might consider backing up first to be safe, but from my experience it will take an existing save and reformat to the new split style, but leave the previous version as a redundancy.

#

It being altered to this new form makes save file transferring a lot easier

yooooo That is essential!

@wanton sun Goldeneye (PAL version), similiar behaviour to Banjo Tooie.
On latest update, using MiSTer_split_save_20231124
From fresh boot, black screen only.
Loading other games, then Goldeneye can sometimes work. Example, Glover -> Goldeneye from fresh boot resulted in black screen E00000040.
Next attempt of the same procedure; fresh boot -> Glover -> Goldeneye, intro playing just fine

Another case of CPAK to Rumble issues going direct from one to the other.
Jeremy McGrath Supercross 2000
Boot with CPAK to save, to switch to Rumble successfully, you need to set pad from CPAK to N64Pad. Close OSD. Reopen, set to Rumble Pak, close OSD

With the ownership changing hands from Nintendo to MS over the years, that probably played a part in it.

Hi @tender pine, I am using the Raphnet a (Dual/ 2 player version) as well and have the same issue. Did you fix it? I've tried various things such as uninstalling the N64 controller input files, re-mapping in Main using different configurations and then again in the N64 core and running update all, but to no avail. Perfect Dark also controls incorrectly with the y and x axis, I think, using the default control scheme, Joanna looks up/ down whilst walking. Sensitivity also seems too strong, notable when moving up and down in menu options, but would have to compare against my N64 to be sure. The analogue stick with Quake II seemed to function OK, though. Thanks
