really neat
Shadowgate > Turok
Hmmm. I do like the expanded multi player but GE> PD because of Bond
Bond > Joanna Dark
did you guys know there are some really cool GE romhacks?
like entire new single player campaigns
Yeah like Goldeneye X
I want to play that
There’s goldfinger but it doesn’t work yet sadly
Spy Who Loved Me
definitely going to be checking those out after the core is final
Yeah the Goldfinger is good but the levels are just too big
I played them on my everdrive
Everdrive > Neverdrive
i'm thinking of dropping my n64 out of my setup at this point
maybe put an xbox360 there
Yeah definitely
I have OG Xbox, Xbox 360, Need an Xbox Series X
Sold my genesis, snes, ps1
Ps3
One FPGA to rule them all
heh i just got a ps3
Yeah I'm not a fan. Apart from MGS4
ridge racer7 seems neat, i've not really played it much yet though just been getting it setup
The PS2 was just wayyyy better.
the N64 core has already replaced my N64 because of convenience
360 was far superior to PS3 imo
Yeah I agree
like, empirically yes
Even though I LOVE playstation
Me too
my modded 360 has like, 200+ titles on it, my ps3 has like 35
PS1/PS2/PS4 are all incredible
Indeed.
and i really went out of my way to find anything that was a worthwhile exclusive or somehow better on ps3
PS5 I just got
the ps move games are neat, thats a lot of them really
It's great for playing PS4 games
3D Dot Game Heroes is great
And it doesn't sound like a jet engine. I don't have any PS5 exclusives.
I was considering a switch to play N64 but not needed thanks to Robert
ratchet and clank is the best ps5 exclusive (excluding psvr2 stuff) imo
Finally you say something smart! I knew it would happen eventually
thank you for believing in me
I never played rachet
it was the first one i played heh
its super slick, technically amazing does stuff that really justifies the hardware
Nice. I am also looking forward to Alan Wake, DS2 and SH2 🙂 I've held out this long to buy it (traded in my PS3 and games for it) lol
i can't wait for the resident evil4 remake vr mode
I don't have VR
I tried it
You know I hooked up goldeneye to my psvr
It was interesting
i got absolutely obsessed with that synthriders dancing game, i play like minimum an hour a day
And I tried playing Resident Evil 7 but too scart
yeah i wish they'd port that over to psvr2 i never played it
its crazy, like actually crazy how much more intense horror games are in VR
Yeah they are absolutely horrifying
Can't you play resident evil 7 with a psvr 2 on a ps4?
I mean ps5
Forgive me if this is a stupid question... how can I get the Switch NSO N64 controller to work reliably via wired connection? It keeps cutting out and the Green/Orange LEDs go on/off. Works fine on Switch
No PSVR1 games work with a PSVR2, they have to be patched to work for the new device
Which is one of the reasons why the PSVR2 is dead
It died due to sony's decision to initially only sell it via their own online store
And people being cheap couch operators
I can’t even bring myself to buy a PS5 based on the offering let alone additional PSVR2 with no software. What a weirdly successful generation for Sony despite a lackluster system
Too bad since PSVR has some great experiences and it would be nice to have seen that continue to advance.
I would argue even the Xbox Series has more value, simply because of the backwards compatibility and how piss easy it is to run homebrew.
But only the demons souls machine plays demons souls
I have both. They mostly collect dust
I had to dust my PSVR2 controller off for my Quest 3 vid
I dunno why Sony made new VR hardware if they didnt feel like giving it a solid library
Couldn't you say the same about their handhelds?
My uncle says he can only play PSVR for 10 minutes at a time before he needs a break.
So maybe that library is all he needs
I have ps3 demon souls.. and a ps3... but also RPCS3
maybe that was Sony's brilliant plan
As I'm typing it, I am realizing how bad an idea that is.
Do you have a recommendation for which 360 mod? I've tried to look it up a few times and it's a little confusing/overwelming.
But do you have hdr+emasrered graphics and a heavily breathing character?
Any idea on. (FORCED 60FPS)
erm, not really i just kinda yolo'd it from a random ebayer sorry
haha no worries
i'm pretty sure there's better mods out now than the one i have aswell
Maybe atleast in some of the more primitive games?
I probably won't dig it out of the closet for awhile. Maybe the mods will make more sense by then.
I just found a ps2 at a thrift store.
honestly for how cheap pre-modded ones are i wouldn't even bother modding yours
there's specific later models you really want anyway - the slim ones after they fully fixed rrod
I think that's what I have
they aren't really considered retro yet quite so prices are still pretty reasonable
you could always chat to a modder about what'd fit your console best
wow they are as cheap or cheaper than ever
that's a good idea
great. well I have something to do after I learn what this ps2 is.
morning, what's goin on here today
good morning. You're up early.
oh. my mistake. what took you so long?
booting computer / reading e-mails / making coffee
oh yeah that sounds right.
This week I am learning what a ps2 is.
looks pretty cool
PS2 connector or console?
legacy
I wish I had one
Bunch working jerks around here
30 minutes in - and I'm done with my daily tasks
whatever shall I do with the rest of my time
That's efficiency
it's automation
Yeah I'm just sitting here watching a machine grind metal.
Ya gotta love it.
Real Homer Simpson here
Cylindrical Grinder
I am a Machinist by trade. For a little over 10 years.
😄
I did mechanical engineering back in the day - wanted to be a designer/architect ..... but at year 3 I didn't even touch a computer
the school had computers - but the teachers had no clue what CAD was
Haha, gotta pencil whip that discrepency
hydraulic cylinders
I only work in imperial standard anyway. Merica
When I was a kid they told us we were about to switch over to Metric soon
I moved to the US when I was 26 - I seriously hate the emperic system
1 thou is .001
I know
it's not that it's the worst. It's just that Metric actually makes sense.
1 10th is .0001
@viscid quiver and that's where I have a problem 😄 1 10th = 0.1 in my book
not 1 10th of a thou
Well my school system was supossed to switch us all but didn't. So if there is someone to blame its probably the school system.
Yeah switching seems farther away than it did back then
meanwhile in the auto industry 😄 (and at NASA)
If I happen to be working in Metric I just use conversion formulas.
2.54cm =1"
1 yard is a meter (yeah I know it's less than 1 ... but who cares)
1 feet = 30cm
3feet is roughly a meter
What's new today?!
I seen MARS fpga has changeable controller plugin accessory
the date on the calendar @native mesa that's all
We're learning about the Empiric system
Mars?!
we don't speak about vaporware here
Which one is closer to a meter, a yard or three feet?
yeah the case concept is cool with their snac adapters
too bad all my OEM controllers are bluetooth modded now
Fair enough. That's what's holding me back from testing out the N64 core. I have no ability to hook up a controller
0.9144m on both
3feet=1yard
One deciinnch is 2.54mm
Vampier, how do you like the water measurements?
That is one that virtually no American can do the math on
liters... not cups/oz/tablespoons/teaspoons or hamsterwheels please
I am trying to figure out how to go as fast as the world record holder on Nagano 98 Luge event.
You are missing the country specifier
With the latest unstable Linux driver, analog stick ranges for regular controllers match the N64 stick range. If that’s a concern of yours.
10x10x10cm of water = 1 liter = 1 kg
Using same character. He can get 6 km/h faster on the launch.
Maybe I should just message him and kindly ask
Amazing. I just learned that recently.
It's perfect.
But not in space
Are you using 3 individual foot long rulers? Then there are probably some imperfections on the edges which would make it longer than a yard
There's an explanation for it somewhere
I wish Europe would just adopt feet and miles. It’s the morally correct unit of measurement.
@little socket yes.... not in space... there graviatrional constant is not 9.8m(s*s) there.... but it's till 1 liter
yes but Europe didn't come up with a system that seems to be made up by some [beeping] hamsters on coke
English is phonetically reversed Hebrew
I forgot he used to look like this before all the plastic surgery
Wow the Rock is so cool. Probably because he measures things in feet and miles.
Yeah I think there is a mathematical explanation for this
feet + miles = cool sunglasses
Lots of visuals missing across those few wrestling games, but didn't see any crashes (didn't play very long though)
Always keep in mind that they never stopped trying to take America back
Why keeping a little distance sometimes is not too bad.
who is they?
The British lol
Has anyone played Nagano yet?
Or have a link to the compatibility list?
1kg of water on earth is still 1kg of water in space
the mass is the same, only the weight is different, kg is a measure of mass
That's Numberwang
but my Taylor scale tells me it isn't!
it shows 0 while just hanging there in mid air
your taylor scale should learn what a newton is
it's an object
it only shows stuff when I toss it against a wall or if I toss something against it
The compatibility list is in the pins
just scribble out the decimal point, draw a new one one to the left and scribble out the kg and write N
Thank you.
9.82m/s²
He measures in stone
What is FIFI Soccer?
[pink haired soccer lady making gun gestures towards to camera while getting ready to be defeated by a much stronger team]
Justice League Soccer 64 works at least
You like feet?
I want a GTA 3 core
I'm a coppppp u idiot
GTA 3 n64 version with megatextures as God intended. No load times
You've been Targeted.
it means you have hairy arms
Wow... is that for sale or has someone lost it in the store?
I think it’s for sale, has the tag still
random
That's... bizarre
I guess they were added to Smash Bro a few years ago, right?
"Here comes Robby. It's go time!"
They haven't been in anything else or had the games remastered have they?
Bear and Bird are back for an all new adventure!
banjo playing intensifies
It was $35 so I put it back
Don't blame ya there. I just returned a Bills shirt I bought and a Sabres blanket. I didn't like either of them. Too much stitched patch crap going on. Not comfortable.
Don't worry, mario 64 hackers will get there eventually, he already has a gun
Plushy dlc for your home is always expensive it seems.
Yes.

Hi, stupid question’s I’m sure but, here we go anyway.
Snowboard kids (1st game) image is smaller than all other games tested.
Same game, seems to support memory card and rumble but there’s only one slot, do you have to choose 2 controllers and rumble on main controller and save to memory pack on controller 2? I’m confused lol
No Mercy beatable since Sept 9. But the intro screens, some menu elements, wrestler entrances, and story text is borked. Gameplay is fine.
I think there's a plan for a combined rumble/save option in a single controller but it has not been implemented yet.
So the only workaround currently is what you said. Rumble in one slot and mem pack in another.
Where is the list of status of games?
it's in the pins. Compatibility Tracker
Thanks, Discord is too new for me lol
Thumbtack icon at the top of the app brings up a list of the pinned (important) comments.
Got it. Thanks
Tho that document says that only two games have been completed, is it really not more?
Huh looks more like 40+ there
is this a picture of the gaza strip
Gaza shaves hers - so I can't show a picture of that
lol
Ashkelon is TLB
Any updates on vivid dolls?
any idea of how good timings are in the core currently? I know Robert is working on that now but I wonder how they currently compare with software emulators. They all have notorious timing related issues
Vivid Dolls boots to a test menu
Debug stuff
So something presumably going on there that needs tweaked to load into the game (other Aleck64 games did similar things when I checked awhile back)
I really hope I can play it during the dark, lonly winter months...
It thinks the test button is pressed
Is he? I think he still chipping away at the components first
Tremerpak master race
Well not that he's working on that right now, but iirc he mentioned he bought an HDMI modded N64 to research timings among other things
Pretty sure timing fixes are not happening until all components are implemented
Yeah, I was just wondering how does the core compare with software emulators right now
it depends on the game
Isn't that kind of pointless tho, I recall the n64 seeing it as an either/or situation, you can't use both at the same time *replied to wrong person, meant to reply to @viscid quiver about the tremorpak
DK64 I think is notoriously bad in software emulators due to timing inaccuracies
tl;dr - generally the core runs a bit faster than hardware, and a bit slower than most emulators
how to coordinate on this graph?
Some games are better with timings than others.
Banjo-Tooie is accurate since the music does sync up with the cutscenes like it should, but Pokémon Stadium 2 lacks the lag so it is faster than it should be.
Ocarina of time runs faster than hardware, causing desync on some of the collapse cutscenes. meanwhile Battlezone doesn't quite run at full-speed and the audio crackles due to not getting what it needs in time
just depends on the game
I see. Cool, thanks! I haven't been testing games extensively so I was wondering on how things were currently.
for some games it's already pretty close
Wave Race 64 drops frames in pretty much the same places as hardware
That's really encouraging. I wonder if better timings in the MiSTer core could help software emulators getting better in that regard too down the line.
if it goes like psx/gba then yeah probably
bet
Beetle Adventure Racing will be a good test case. it has
A) unlocked framerate
B) debug mode with framerate display that works on hardware
in that game, framerate is super important as it affects what happens when you go off of a jump. emulators run the game slightly too fast, which causes you have to notably better odds of getting lower/faster jumps
Pilotwings 64 also has an unlocked frame rate. That's why the NSO version of the game runs at mostly 60fps, which the game absolutely does not achieve on real hardware.
im trying to use an n64 controller but the analog up and down doesnt work. When I go through the steps to define buttons there isnt an option to define analog
im using a retrofighters n64 ciontroller that works normally with a real n64
did you go through top level mister controller setup?
yes
I can navigate with the n64 controller in the menu
if thats what you mean?
im using
a blissbox gamer pro adapter if that matters?
I tried fpga but no good
I think Analog is auto configured for the core
I find it odd up and down isnt working (y) axis
Tried the Controller Test (built-in and/or rom)?
Yeah, its a core in the main menu
ill try t hat thanks
Im pretty sure there's plenty of 64 adapters that needs testing on MiSTer now
I use the Reflex Adapt and its bang on perfect
Lucky! I want a Reflex Adapt so badly now.
It's the real deal 😎
Was anything improved in GBA or PS1 software emulation because of MiSTer cores?
I just need to wait for the restock. I didn't know about them until recently, and they were already sold out! I love that the latency is extremely low, and you can also still use the controllers to navigate the MiSTer OSD. Almost feels like there is no need for SNAC at this point.
for transparency, rumble isnt supported for controllers yet, but there's an XInput build for GC/PSX
I built the picoswitch adapter for N64 controllers with like $10 in parts. Works really well. Sub 1ms latency
I mainly want to use it for my SNES and 3D Saturn controllers anyway. So rumble isn't an issue for me personally.
Awesome, you're gonna have a blast with it (when it comes back in stock)
@stuck summit you measured latency?
also what did you spend the other $6 on
haha
apparently Reflex is 3ms, but they got it down to 1ms now
I sacrificed an extension cable before you gave me the tip to buy the connectors lol
i mean i wrote my own script to read the n64 controller using a pico, and i have no doubt it's good but
Oh really? Where can I get that
i don't know what the "but" was
nowhere, i did it after you showed me retro pico switch
i just wanted to see how it worked, and try to figure out bluetooth
which i did not
Aaah, yeah I was going to ask if you managed to get bluetooth working
You should probably just put it behind you.
i think bluetooth is a linux driver issue
because it pretends to be a switch pro controller, but badly
Yeah, I noticed it didn't work properly on PC with BetterJoy. Kept disconnecting all the time. But Steam picked it up just fine as a Pro controller
honestly it sucks because with a battery the size of a pico it would be a wireless conversion with no board swap needed
i think this entire scene is sleeping on that, but people love their wires
Yeah, true
i mean it would barely add to the size of an SNES connector
probably lower latency too than the 8bitdo kit
you could destroy 8bitdo
their SNES/NES conversion kits are awful. Super laggy. Like over 20ms or something
not sure about the N64 one
or at least mickgyver could
he had something working but never released it, the numbers were about as good as it gets
Researching by playing Mario kart in HD on his bigscreen

VI(async), RDP(LOD, YUV, fixes), CPU (writefifo, cache, load stall), RSP(dual pipeline) most likely before, but maybe not, depends on my mood, haha 🙂
and if it somehow fits in between transfer pak (sorry, still my most wanted special feature)
No one wants rental pokemon forever I'm sure so you don't have to apologise for that lol
seeing mine own childhood frens in beautifully textured pollys 😩
I think my old Mew is still stuck on my Pokemon Stadium cartridge. 😅
Heracross is the GOAT
You are doing the CPU and RSP fixes beforehand, haha, kinda wondered about those cause they seemed kinda inconsequential
Do you mean snac transfer pack or reading the saves from the gameboy core? Or is it pretty much the same logicwise?
it's more missing features than fixes, so it makes sense to do them first. they are more important than TLB as they affect all games
I guess those minor speed fixes do affect more games, yeah, and especially the RSP one sounds like it will be funny to debug
name your favorite pokemon!
the good thing is: if 80% of the games work, we can trust the other parts really good, so every new bug is likely not just due to timing being slightly different, but rather a real bug due to the new feature being added
that's why i wanted stability before adding features that make debugging harder
Yeah, we can wait for TLB. Considering how many games run now, we have our hands busy anyway!
first snac transfer pak, this is the bigger milestone. When that works, it should be pretty straightforward to implement emulated transfer pak using rom + sav. Not easy, but mostly work
I look forward to it 🙂
If you manage to bypass the OOT protection with the RSP superscalar impl, that would be legendary
The UI is truly the challenge haha
well a legend is making legends here
Ares supports the transfer pak since 2 months now, another very helpful ressouce 🙂
The transfer pak sounds pretty straightforward. I think the majority of games just trigger a flag that automatically unlocks content. But I can imagine it being more tricky with stuff like the Pokémon Stadium games, which genuinely transfers data.
well, i only really care for first gen pokemon for now. Later on, other gameboy MBC (mapper) can be added
True
we have all mappers available in the gameboy core, so they can be mostly ported
Makes sense, the transfer pak needs to read something for it to work.
First Genners unite 🙂
I love gen1 so much I made my own version.
I've played some of the others but I'm a genwunner at heart.
it's all a dream for now, but well, playing mario kart 64 on mister was also just a dream 6 months ago 🙂
i need to have a goal and that is really something i'm looking forward to
You got this Robert
Im just amazed about how everyone mobilized to get this tested and debugged
you look like you're tested and debugged
it's what I do for a living big boy 😎
Someone test out PAL games
My pals are all at work
but can you play 4 player battle?
But where are your NTSCs
That's personal
why not?
Someone should tell Sergiy
Jk jk
you tried to sniff out my leading and savage trick question but today it was nothing but an ordinary one for i have not followed the progress of your work, master wizard
i just thought maybe the multiplayer part of the game was bugged or something
since i've never seen any screenshots from anybody playing the battle mode
and we all know that's the best part of the game
no, working fine. we already played
have you got a transfer pak to test?
yes, already tested to work with Pokemon Rot on real n64 🙂
How does the transfer pak work? Dumps the rom and save into the N64’s RAM?
This is gonna sound weird, but I'm interested to know if the last N64 games ever made can run on the core.
Usually, the last games made are supposed to be "the games that would push the hardware a bit to its limits."
I've tried to find some videos of THPS 3 running on the core, but nothing.
It's the only gen of Pokemon I played 😂
Does anyone else's MiSTer fail to boot when you switch to the new zImage files in the pins? I am using the latest unstable MiSTer core.
My NSO controllers were working fine with the old zImage, but the player LEDs were not working properly and I was wondering if the latest zImage might fix that...
mine boots with it, and yes it does fix the blinking lights
and some of the deadzone issues
hmm
Interesting... And all you did was rename the old zImage in /media/fat/linux and copied over the new one from the link and renamed it to the original zImage name?
maybe I should do a file checkum...
yes, how are you copying?
it runs, but the graphics are a mess
Aidyn is near-perfect, THPS3 has text issues so you can't read any of the text as well as wild texture glitching, Animal Forest has a few graphical issues but is playable, 40 Winks seems to run OK
Perfect Dark pushes the console more than any of those games, though
forgot about the wild texture glitching in THPS3

I'm guessing the same also happens for THPS 2, and any other extreme sports game.
Does that one run well on the core? I don't remember now.
Pokemon Rot?
Is the other version Pokemon Famine?
Blau
it's red and blue in german
i cannot remember 150 additional names in english (they renamed most) so i have to stick to it
All the German I know I learned from Wolfenstein 3D and Rammstein

hmmmmm 🤔 Looks like we found the smoking gun! Works! 🔥 💯
Thanks for verifying my stupidity...
If someone else runs into this. I tried multiple transfers through filezilla that appeared to have completed successfully. I renamed the file using filezilla after the transfer. Not sure if something got messed up there...
To be safe, maybe direct transfer to SD is a good idea if you are having issues.
looks like MacOS so CLI scp or I think Cyberduck
Filezilla defaults to auto and it makes mistakes
My wife has a MacBook but I never really use it so I don't know what the mac versions of tools are besides whatever resides in the BSD beneath.
Does the N64-database.txt functionality only work with big-endian (z64) ROMs, or does it have big-endian and little-endian hashes for each game?
The coolest German Pokémon name that also can be understood in English is the German name of Snorlax. It's named Relaxo!
the roms are converted by Main Mister
ah interesting, thanks!
thank god. endian is my archenemy
or my enemyarch depending on the platform
sounds like the next build of portal will have a 480i mode
portal is for the PC not N64 !
thats what they want you to think
Have they done much yet on the end of the game? That seems like it'll be really difficult, since things get a lot more detailed with more setpieces
without a mouse portal would be terrible
its playable on a pad, first time i ever finished it was on 360
i'm not sure how many maps they've done so far - not all of them for sure
It's even easier. The rom is converted to big endian before hashing. Only one hash needed.
So uh... Any word on TLB?
yes Patreon locked feature yours for 50 euro
also selling a dictionary with the word Gullible removed
thanks! I thought I saw somewhere that it checks the first 4096 bytes, but it also checks the whole file? is that correct? I know that it's evolved over the past few weeks.
My wife is German and i've always found Pokemon names in German highly amusing for some reason
'Relaxo', seriously
i think most recently its moved on to reading the rom id out of its header so we don't even need seperate entries for a lot of romhacks etc
the hash stuff still works as fallback though or something
Hey, I'm working on it 😆
Though most of my PAL testing was only those non-booting games from the NTSC list as of some weeks back.
I'll try to at least quickly check the other PAL games boot, get gameplay, confirm nothing too egregious is different.
I will usually put "Only briefly confirmed gameplay" in the notes if I've only checked a bare minimum works. Problem is of course I could miss cases like the consistent but random "Polaris SnoCross" crash
i know one pal game runs - f1 world grand prix
its got a minor graphical glitch in the hud graphics but its otherwise fine
Add it to the sheet. Or I'll add it later tonight. Hopefully will get to test a little
Still funny to me that at least so far, one game is PAL playable but NTSC version won't boot. There could well be other cases like that hiding in there
yeah, like biohazard2 (jpn) has unique bugs resident evil2 (us) doesn't have
surprised me

Edit - I couldn't figure out how to proper quote messages - that's the best I can do...
I think we may be lucky and get TLB for Xmas:) or If some genius could hack Goldeneye to not use it like they did with PD 😉
need a decomp before you can even start
With how rabid the ge fanbase is it's a miracle pd got it first
yeah mildly surprising
having pd done has to help a lot i'd assume
maybe it wont be much longer
I think Kholdfusion was decompiling GE last time I heard
I'm chomping at the bit.
GIVE ME CANDY
What is everybody's most favourite,64 title like their No.1 game
MM
Same, barely holding back the robert pings, goldeneye is my fav tbh
probably oot
I bet the person doesn't even has joined his patreon
Majora's Mask, Goldeneye, Smash
I DEMAND TLB!!!
😭
Mystical Ninja
favourite playable right now, f-zero x by far. Favourite waiting for playable, Turok Rage Wars (yes) and Gauntlet Legends
dude... you love MSX - we don't need TLB
Or bomberman, anything I can just jump into and do some shit, oot and mm is more like once every other year even if they're probably the best
mystical ninja is underrated period
i think goldeneye is overrated period
The N64 misses a MSX collection for sure
but i wouldn't say that aloud
TLB is planned 90 days from now
and if anyone asks... tomorrow it's still 90 days
and the day after too
Mobs and pitchforks spring to mind
"one stretchy Mario face by Christmas"
just be happy with what we have and that it is getting better every day
I mean it's easy to look back on Goldeneye today and see it as archaic, but on the day it came out, it felt years ahead of any FPS at the time. It revolutionized everything.
did it?
It still has not been beaten
it should of but then nobody really copied it forever
I can make a reasoned argument for why pd is superior in many ways but I just love the setting and arcade-y feel of ge, nothing quite compares
*for console
*for console
yeah goldeneye was fun times couch play with roommates in its day. I wouldn't spend any time on it in 2023
I guess, if you didn't have a PC
the way the single player missions escalate as you raise the difficulty has like, gone largely uncopied forever
or until Half Life came out
yeah i had a PC at the time and goldeneye was fun but i also felt a little superior, because i was
yeah I spent more time playing UT for sure or other FPS
Exactly. It came out a whole year after.
the best pc shooter at the time was probably quake2
Hmmm I dunno
but there's something to be said for sitting next to someone on a couch and virtually murdering them
I had pc and clearly shooting stuff in quake and half-life is quicker or whatever, I just like the mechanics of ge, getting boosted by bullets, the tiny corridors where you line up headshots
Games I've always played constantly since release...GE, Deus Ex and Doom
yeah it was way more like, sophisticated than a lot of pc shooters
pc shooters caught up but later
i still remember halo with four crts set up back to back
Oh and visit Half Life on the regular
single player is where goldeneye shines, but it was people playing together that made it huuuge
yeah, i'd say the single player is what is worth playing today
Yea people "go back" to multiplayer and see that it's a laggy mess, they just miss being in highschool
its a shame it runs so badly yeah
also the multiplayer ideas have all been taken and iterated on a billion times now
GE Multiplayer runs painfully
if you want nostalgic GE multiplayer play, without the low fps, get that leaked 360 version it rules
I played alot of PD multilplayer with bots, thank god they ported it to xbox
the best thing about GE is the asynchronous multiplayer. competing with your friends to see who could beat the par times and unlock the cheats, trying to best each other's times... important in the history of speedrunning
and the PD 360 port is also great
Yeah it's nice
yeah me and my friends used to do this
This isn’t my actual favourite, but it’s the game I’m most excited to replay
Multiplayer will always be up to date and fun somewhere else, there's no need to be disappointed with it since you'll be served by another game, the singleplayer stuff in ge and pd is still fun and unique, the same itch only being lightly scratched by timesplitters imo
i spent weeks figuring out how to pull off the facility speedrun
those par times and the cheat unlocks, as well as having each difficulty be pretty different in many cases - incredible replay value
that's really the key to GE, imo
Yeah definitely
you can really master it
I'll probably be still playing it in retirement
they were clearly riffing on the par times from Doom, but having cheat unlocks tied to that and saving your best times - strokes of genius
and having the cheats work in MP
If the par times are what brought about speedrunning then I regret Goldeneye
nah speedrunning happened anyway goldeneye just got more people into it
The only good thing to come out of speedrunning are the interesting glitches people find
there were Doom demos and Quake demos prior to GE but having a console game with that level of encouragement for it was huge
its a good casual onramp for speedrunners. so are a lot of achievements/trophies these days
SMK having ghosts is another pretty important game in speedrunning history
a tiny feature that had huge repurcussions
When did doom get multiplayer? Was that with Doom 95?
Doom had IPX multiplayer long before 95, didn't it?
i think resident evil having the rocket launcher unlock for sub 3 hour completion inspired a lot of speedrunners too. i know i did
Still difficult today as well which makes it fun. Another aspect I like is the exaggerated animations, obviously for the purpose of giving people playing on a 64 controller time to react, it just gives you a great sense of what's happening and will happen
Super Metroid and those RE unlocks, also big, yeah
Metroid even has the bikini if you beat it fast enough, yeah?
i remember it took me ages to figure out how to do RE that fast
i didn't even know what a gant chart or a dependency was back then 😄
The best part about ge is walking right up to guards and using them like meat shields, another thing which rewards a different playing style
actually got that wrong
The Ultimate Doom was the first to have LAN mp
previous doom was all local mp
local mp in doom ?
alegedly
lol Dos doom didn't have split screen
yeah what lol
Midi Maze (Xanth Software F/X, 1987) for the Atari ST exploited the system's relatively sophisticated MIDI ports to enable multiplayer action.
ok i need another mister, stat
Yeah idk where google is getting this. source ports had split screen
From 1993 to 1995, various versions of Doom and Doom II were released by id Software to address bugs and input from players and fans. Additionally a few pre-release builds were preserved by testers, which eventually made their way to public archives. Summarised below are the main differences of each known version of the games, as changes were ma...
Serial multiplayer released in 1993, Null modem and modem support in 1994
serial cables can't be super long so i guess you could call that "local"
esp back then when the terms were not well defined
thank you
Is a gameboy link cable local?
of course
you're arguing semantics at this point though. I'm pretty sure IPX networking was pretty much just what you were dealing with back in 1993. 🙂
Nope. Neural net
personally i'd say local is on the same machine, then i'd call gameboy link play, then network for lan, online for internet
meanwhile atari st had midi multiplayer in 1987 and we are just acting like that is normal
There was definitely null-modem for Doom, that's how I played it at university before we got network cards.
midi maze was a vibe for sure
midi was pretty magical
@vapid hawk bruh the L stands for local
still is
(the ZX Spectrum also did multiplayer via Interface 1 which astounds me)
If I play a game that needs the controller pak, create a save, switch to another controller pak game and save that as well is my second game save stuck on a pak that's not automatically loaded when playing the second game?
QL had the same networking loop builtin too. 3.5mm audio cables 🙂
Well that's pretty sick. 🙂 I have absolutely zero experience using a QL.
not sure i understand the question, but the way it currently works is
if you load a new game which has no .sav file created yet, and you have stuff saved to the CPAK, you'll still see those saves in the new game
you can hold Start on booting nearly any game with CPAK support to see what's saved
isn't it a unique cpak per game?
yes
but if you don't have a .sav yet, the CPAK isn't formatted when you create one
for safety reasons
It's tripped me up since it was introduced but my understanding is a controller pak per game wasn't generated automatically when hopping between games
you can manually format CPAK and reset, or you can hold Start and clear the prior save, or you can just let it ride if you don't need the space
if you have a .sav for the game, none of this applies
So you can end up with multiple games on one if you don't use the format option
it'll load in the new .sav
quicker to just hold start when booting a new game you haven't made a .sav for yet
then you can delete the old save and proceed as normal
once a .sav is created for that game, you don't need to worry about it ever again
I think I understand but that seems extremely confusing to an end user
basically Robert said he didn't want to automate formatting the CPAK. could lose a user's data if they switched games with autosave off and didn't manually save their CPAK (since on new load it'd format in that case)
it's not, really
the only quirk is your CPAK is not autoformatted - which is honestly a very wise decision
you need to consider what's on your CPAK one time - the first time you make a .sav
after that it's not a consideration
If I'm a new user and just browsing through the n64 library between multiple cpak games won't you very quickly run into issues?
Without knowing to hit the format option
most games warn you when starting if your CPAK is full
Thinking about all the rom hacks I've tried on the core so far, and I think my favorite has to be the split-screen co-op hack for Super Mario 64. Insanely cool. I really wish Nintendo would do that with all their 3D Mario games.
formatting automatically has more risk
I thought that was a cut feature
i read Robert's reasoning for it and it makes sense to me
I think I heard that too.
Is player 2 luigi?
Not all cpak games fill it though, right? So you could have multiple games written to a single one if you're bouncing around, right?
the tl;dr is this - hold start when you boot a new game. you'll never encounter an issue that way
Yeah
you'll boot to the CPAK manager
I understand but I'm coming at this from the perspective of a completely new user and personally I never even knew that cpak manager was a thing even though I grew up with the system
I'm really not pushing for any changes
I can smell the TLB bomb being dropped tomorrow! 😄
Just trying to understand and explain it from a different user perspective
load CPAK game 1. they have a fresh CPAK. works fine. they load another CPAK game. old save is still present. if the save is too big, most games say "not enough room on CPAK". so now they've been made aware there is already data on the CPAK and they can take appropriate action. format option in the menu, some games automatically take you to a manager
the alternative is autoformatting to a fresh one on booting a game with no extant .sav. issue there is if autosave is off and the user haven't manually saved, they've just lost data
the existing method does not risk data, so i agree with robert that it's the safer approach
Yeah that makes sense to preserve the data. In my example with games that don't fill the pak you could end up with multiple on one and you'd just have to hunt down what you first played?
if you have autosave on, you don't have to hunt
it will be saved to the .sav you created for the correct game
the only thing is there might be duplicates on some cpaks
So .sav 1 would have game 1, .sav 2 would have game 1 and 2 potentially?
yep
I was wondering about all this, good to know.
Ah then that makes more sense
you can't switch games without opening the OSD, which will save if autosave is on
so the existing CPAK for game 1 will always be gucci
I was afraid the second game would be back on the first pak but it could just be potentially accumulating forward with each game
there is a small risk still, which you kind of alluded to
not all games warn you about CPAK space
in that case, if you go in, make progress and your CPAK is already full
RIP you
most games warn you, tho
if you want to avoid that, make sure you hold start on boot 🙂
Cool, thank you very much for the explanation
i'm super impressed with how well it works
CPAKs are very annoying on real hardware
prone to corruption, those controller pins are not great
if you use rumble you swap stuff in and out constantly, eventually those poor little paks are gonna give you "error, controller pak corrupted. repair? y/n" and half the time the repair doesn't work 🙃
yeah the rumble thing is oof
i hope there is a way to automate that at some point
i am pretty sure you could have both at once, maybe
It is annoying to have to switch between cpak and rumble all the time is certain games.
but I know that's a limitation of the original hardware.
i read only a handful of games actually check for the rumble pak, so they just trigger regardless
says it works with all rumble games
I believe there's a switch on that you have to flip when going from cpak<->rumble.
there is
does both - but not at the same time
what will most likely happen is eventually someone will add a button to toggle to the input mappings
robert was weary to work on that after the headache with ps1 analog modes
it's not high priority
I'd be happy with a toggle button. Great use for ZR on the Saffun and NSO controller.
yeah 8bitdo thing has one too
Hey @fair stump and @weary perch , I am streaming tonight and was wondering if there was anything I should test?
i think there's still some untested PAL stuff?
among the retail releases
in some of the more obscure sheets there is a bunch of stuff, but not sure how much anyone cares about the kiosk demos etc at this point 😄
Thank you. I will take a look.
i think Kasher took care of the untested JP so the only retail stuff left outside of older revisions is PAL

In case you still need a hdmi 2.1 usb solution
Anything japan, I guess, I finally got stuff together for me to join you all on that
there some JP stuff that hasn't been tested in awhile, too yeah
I use that for menu. 😄
anything last tested in early september or august should probably get a look, i'll probably check some of those out when i get off work
i dont think hdmi 2.1 was a concern at all. not doing anything above 1080p60 afaik
Saffun has a menu button on the face of the controller, so I use that for menu, and I'm hoping to use ZR for the toggle.
Ok that makes sense. I guess with the nso driver not playing nice with the modkit there is less need for it to flip between rumble and cpak anyway.
what does the modkit have to do with the NSO?
also i am using switch mode and don't have to re-pair after a disconnect? i saw you mentioned that @lament escarp
It's using the same driver in switch mode, which makes rumble work but you also have to pair it each time your disconnected.
#unstable-nightlies message also has it, if you're still on the "stock" driver
ok so it uses the switch pro driver?
i wonder if it fixes the open source bluetooth project any
No the n64 nso controller driver
oh, i thought it showed up as a switch pro when i connected
that makes more sense
i am using the "stock" driver, but i don't need to re-pair so
#unstable-nightlies message is the first implementation of the driver.
well that is confusing since i use switch mode and have never installed that
You don't lose much by updating, as I just use dinput mode most times and when I really want rumble I use switch mode and pair it for the gaming session.
But you also don't get rumble without the driver
Yeah I've been testing bt adapters and been bugging shig for months. 😄
what's shig been doing?
I sent him some error reports and he sent me some driver builds to get the reconnection going, but to no avail. He could explain the technical side way better than me. I'm just the assistant. 😄
But at least the bt connector issue is pretty solved by now, I got the same bt adapter robert uses with his nso controller and has no issues. Doesn't work with the modkit.
crazy
ironically i've never had a bluetooth controller that paired better or faster than the modkit...i so hate bluetooth
there is an open source wireless n64 project that doesn't work on mister, i'm not sure where to start looking, maybe shig could give me a hint
it pairs but no input
Second best option would be if 8bitdo adds xinput to the modkit via fw update, or the very least makes their own usb adapter compatible with switch mode. I also contacted them about it.
The 8bitdo also connects to the bt but the driver doesn't get the right answer.
well it's a physical switch so that might not happen
Hmm, I wonder what's the barrier to the "perfect" category now. For most games, VI seems to work as intended. Are we waiting for cycle accuracy test and fixes now?
If you're in any way knowledgeable about driver stuff and want to give it a crack I'd be happy to help in any way I can. 😄
Im gonna say, anything that's not cycle related
I think perfect will be the hardest to test for
Even PSX isn't perfect, since a low level implementation of the CD system isn't practical
Maybe perfect should be better defined in the context of what can be expected
We can nitpick all day, but I think if the core/game reaches a point where telling it apart from real hardware is splitting hairs, I think its good
Yeah I agree
luckily the PSX had such janky drives nobody will ever notice
Yeah, my ps1 drive is actually a sd card
@zenith orchid #1096015979055697940 message
Yeah true, so there were clear exceptions made. Also board revisions could affect cycle performance
there's a whole lot of stuff not done
Even for games that are close, you can still see a few blemishes here and there. There's weird colored pixels on polygon edges. Some polygon seams are still visible in most games. Mario 64 for example doesn't have the noise transparency. Etc.
i wonder if the list gets less and less fun
yeah, I see that the core isn't feature complete. Perhaps it doesn't necessarily mean that there aren't games which may be as perfect as they will ever be without those features at this time right?
honestly i'm not sure if anyone knows?
seems easiest to just add everything and watch random bugs disappear
I still think defining "perfect" better is a good idea.
Didnt mean to sound entitled lol i havent been keeping up with the core for the past couple weeks and was too lazy to check the compatibility spreadsheet
the point in implementing all the missing features is to make sure any remaining bugs are actual bugs
maybe distinguishing between "no outstanding bugs" and "perfect"
or some better term
https://www.twitch.tv/rgw_panda
Testing N64 roms and maybe trying to do some completes.
I am Panda, and I am a Retro Game Wizard, which means I am one of the greatest players of old video games. I use my MiSTer and a bunch of other fun systems to go on magical retro journeys, and I invite everyone to come along.
i'm happy with bug-free and 100% compatible with any of these later systems
Perfect would pretty much be when there is a consensus that the game requires no more work on part of the core, right?
i wouldn't mark anything as perfect until all features are implemented (including TLB), at least one timing pass is done, and the game is effectively indistinguishable from hardware
i think most people are used to software emulation, where compatibility lists look more like dophin or yuzu or something...but with hardware you just implement everything, and any problems left over are problems of implementation, not resources
Yeah there has been issues where blemishes can be found in pretty much every game, but Robert took care of quite a few of these issues recently. Which is the main reason why I'm asking now. The FPU fix was pretty big.
Even so most games are running noticeably too fast. I don't think any of them can be labeled "Perfect" yet.
I had a dream that the n64 database.txt file allowed you to redirect to a config input under each game to allow for different controls for specific titles 🤔
TLB's implementation may also impact existing performance
so it wouldn't make much sense to be marking things before that's done
Only games which use it.
Stuff is perfect without TLB
There can be regressions tho
Is Bangai=O crash tlb or something else?
Yeah its more likely that TLB will slow down certain games
yeah TLB doesn't affect anything if developers didn't use it
just stating my approach. the compatibility list is Moondandy's, so i'll go along with what they say
i don't think you are wrong, but i also think bob'll figure it out
i personally wouldn't be marking anything perfect before feature completion
In that case the barrier to the perfect category would be cycle accuracy fixes. And even then, perfection would be "as close as it is feasible."
Which could very well be within the margin of difference between different board revisions
I do hope there'll be turbo options after the cycle accuracy fixes are in though 😄
Maybe it'll make 4p PD an enjoyable experience
I just realized that I haven't updated my n64 romset since 2009, and it's byte swapped, but with .n64 file extensions
🤢 🤮
no wonder I was having so much confusion!
time to uh re-dump all my carts as z64
time is all we have on this earth, maybe consider downloading
yarr
I do hope some care will eventually be given to hacks, partly because I'd like some performance patches, but also to help the hacking communities, there's a lot of fun stuff and I think it'd be nice if their stuff could be played on another platform
N64 hacking has so much potential
what kind of care?
There's completely new games almost
There are so many games which don't use expanded ram, and maybe even DD capabilities can be utilized
mister has always supported non-dumb hacks, to summon my inner admin
Many of the performance patches do not work as intended, I guess those are the ones I haven't got working tbh, I wanted to play that only up one and that had a fps hack baked in so it didn't work
When thinking about SA1 hacks for SNES, it really makes me think about the potential for N64 hacks
@solemn marlin i think that is a reflection of core maturity
there's no reason to think it won't behave exactly like a real console
yeah, that's essentially the aim of every console core
I think newer ones are specifically made to work with original hardware tho, that one is, I guess that is why it's considered impressive to some degree
correct - only I can be entitled! 😉
#entitlement please
seriously, the only thing mister doesn't support is stuff like "stick an arm processor in a 2600 cart"
or fantasy emulator hardware
that would be cool if PICO-8 could run on HPS
These new rom hacks are edge cases because they improve on code in ways that couldn't have been done then because of time restrictions/understanding (afaik) but they run normally on the hardware on an everdrive so there's no new tech
Congrats! Do we have a sheet for romhacks?
Yup there's one on there
you gonna do DD next?
Good to know. Expansion Kit and DK64 are what I'm currently checking out.
Wait, was that the hack that added DD content, or the patched DD rom?
I should have asked that first 😂
It's the cartridge conversion
That's the cartridge hack for the expansion pack, yeah
Pretty much everything works but saving machines and tracks. Not sure if it works on real hardware or emulators
Episode 1 Racer isn't on the spreadsheet as completable yet so that's my next target, then I might stay on brand and do Wipeout 64 next.
Emulator needs to have ROM saving support, PJ64 has the same problems as mister at the moment for example, but research suggests there are a couple of emulators that will support it. It's intended for everdrives though.
Has anyone tried saving tracks or machines on real hardware? If that works, something in the core might be incorrect or implemented
The track editor still doesn't save though right.
Yeah it will work if you're using an Everdrive on real hardware.
Afraid not, no custom machines or tracks will save due to lack of ROM saving support.
I just saw you answered that above me 😬
@solemn marlin ok i knew i saw this answered before, and it was you asking #1096015979055697940 message
these things are trash
Does SimCity 64 DD (ROM) work ?
the one I had didn't do any rumble at all when you switched from high to low
@topaz otter it was more a question of whether you could have both at once or autodetect
Luckily while neat, for me the real star of the show is new tracks and music
you have to flip a switch from rumble to memory pak
there were some that auto switched to both
i think there was at least one mfgr that made one that had a memory pak built in
I would so much love a complete translation of that game. it really is the definitive simcity 2k experience
but I'm not sure if anyone has tried it
it was much easier to just have two controllers plugged in, use the one with the rumble pak and put the memory card in controller port 2
FOr me the ROM doesn't load
and you are using the cartridge patch?
its where the cartridges grow and are harvested
If you're having rom loading issues in mister you probably need to update your n64-database.txt
isn't that only some games?
Do it in the 1p2c mode
by the cartridge patch kids?
I thought that the update_all script would autoupdate the n64-database text file if you have the line for the N64 core added to the script
lol - I'll need two analog sticks for that, right?
Yea I understand there's an expectation that it should just work if the core is like original hardware, but it might need some attention, I understand it's low priority but I don't think it should have the lowest priority (not saying it has)
Yes
Lowest priority should be mouse support
@solemn marlin if something works on original hardware and not on mister that is a bug
sometimes stuff just works differently although nothing is coming to mind
sure i'll break out the DS4 for that. 😛
but hacks pretty much just work
@solemn marlin i think anything expected to work 100% once the core is feature complete should have lowest priority, yes 🙂
The framerate stuff must be doing something very differently from normal n64 games, so I guess it's harder to just have it working
ok
Those are the only hacks that behave weirdly for me
Have you tried Neon64 (NES)?
Not yet.
It does, so maybe that's not the issue. Or maybe DD games haven't been added to it yet.
I was just looking into this. The official Linux kernel 5.16 has support for the switch battery information - expressed as Full, high, normal, low, and critical.... (Not as a percentage as far as I can see). I think when we updated the linux zImage, we get the kernel with this support....
I did some more digging - when you connect a switch controller, it is mounted in /dev as hidraw*

maybe we should ask vampire ?
I’m not saying games should be cycle accurate to be considered Perfect, but the speed difference shouldn’t be so obvious that you can notice it just by casually playing them.
Yeah but most likely those adjustments won't be made until that phase in core development
but those timing issues are not just an issue for framerate hacks, they are an issue for the core. which isn't done yet. i don't know how many different ways there are to say that.
Also the speed difference causes many games to have more obvious imperfections, like the ending in Zelda not being in sync with the music because it plays out too fast.
Crashes out of the gate.
Lemme run a tool on them after the generation.

Nah, the CRC on the n64 file is fine, so it's something in the emu code.
I hear you, they should work eventually 👍
@solemn marlin they better, because i am pretty excited about some of them
I want that only up one, just really love how smoothly it runs besides the flickering, also @native mesa needs it for his halloween party
we have to be ready to return to yoshi's island
There are so many, I'm interested in the goldeneye hacks as well.. my laptop can't run 64 games and I sold my collection, there's only one hope left for me 🥹
N64 in 2 min...including @manic basin and his DOS Scumm capture lol
still felt so wrong to see that
Is it better to emulate scumm on n64 or the linux script version tho? 🤔
Speaking of scumm. Has anyone tried getting scummvm to work yet?
we don't talk about linux
its in the video
Andy D got it working
I need to figure out a way for my streams not to die like an hour in
I don't understand why it starts so strong and just gives up randomly
Until KB & mouse work in N64, pretty definitively SCUMM another way. But it's nice and easy for CRT output.
Well shit, guess I need to watch the video now
The big limiting factor is cart size. You can't go over 64Mb. So CD games are out, but everything else seems fine! And you can pack more than one game per rom, so you can throw all of the floppy games into one rom basically.
just insanity it even works in the first place
World of Xeen has mouse to move options. We can finally have a good rpg to play
True time is running out!
The linux script versions runs fine on mister but I get shit for it because it runs on the arm chip, a lot of arm chip prejudice
for good reason
don’t reopen old wounds or start the Great Linux Wars of 2019 all over again
we banished those people for a reason
But, again, I didn't do it because it was a good idea. I did it because it was very, very stupid.
I love emu on emu action.
(I got Night Trap working on Mac on Amiga on MiSTer a week or so ago....it's not a good way to play at all...but I got it working)
I didn't know it was such a contentious area, just wanted some fucking awful sierra puzzles
hey i think its great andy
"You looked a the frog. He didn't like it. You have perished." Sierra was always such a jerk like that. As Roberta Williams said, moon logic. I loved when Lucas Arts would take jabs at it like in Monkey Island.
Yeah monkey island was stellar writing
Yea getting weird things to work on an even weirder thing is cool, I've played all the lucasarts ones tho, time to bite bullet
Winneck and Gilbert are a hell of a writing team.
I wonder how many jeans were creamed the first time people hooked up their MT-32s
Monkey Island 1 Intro (mt32 midi music)
the analog stick mouse is really the biggest issue with n64 scummvm
OH Michael Z. Land is a damned genius.
And every single version and rework is good. It's amazing that it's even almost passible on PC speaker!
Best way to play, IMO, is Talkie version with Roland. It's.......in jail for kissing ALL the chefs. (especially if you don't like the remaster graphics, which I don't care for personally)
I like the gameblaster variant
You’re a game master
it autocorrected me fml
Recorded from my 386 with Sound Blaster 2.0 clone.
Gave me Amiga vibes up front with the separate voices.
My friend John plays trumpet in a virtual band and they covered Monkey Island...it's pretty great. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=23yQdLtP7GI

@orchid nimbus I just convinced my parents to get a 10ft Cat5
And they are 10ft cats!!
Thank you for checking. I got the same thing but I wasn’t sure if I merged the emulator and rom together correctly.
end to end
Are 10 ft cats local?
I am imagining an entire network running through cats connected end to end
Feline centipede
Yeah, I'm not sure either. It won't load in simple64 either. So maybe their instructions are outdated. I dunno.
Not yet but I heard Japan is working on it
Holy Biscuit Dough. Chameleon Twist crashed on the last boss!
So much south park rally slander... it just has a lot of racing modes as well as normal ones, a lot to unlock, I definitely have nostalgia for it
Haha that’s fair
The positive spin is that it has a lot of stuff for the obsessive player to unlock, might be a bit shite tho, don't think it's the worst kart one on the console
What’s the worse ?
Lol it might be the worst tbh
Also looking online the Japanese version of Chameleon Twist has way more content, whole rooms are different, there are items in the single player stages, and there are unlockable characters
Haven't played through mickey's speedway but it looks and plays better, might be up to whether you enjoy the south park setting more which I kind of do
there's a translation patch for the Japanese version of Chameleon Twist for those that need it and want to play the more content
Anyone have good links on how to do simple n64 hacks?
ive still not played thru the US version properly. i imagine it'll be fine to check that out first?
ooh ok the japanese version looks way better!
i guess western team got an early build to localize while the team kept working on it or something like that? it just seems like a more finished version of the game lol
and the release dates are only days apart
Might be something similar to what happened in reverse when Japanese companies got access to western RPGs, but on the same console

I wonder if someone with more experience could patch the bits to unlock the devils bottle mode into tooie without GameShark codes
Awesome, thank you very much 👍
I changed my mind, south park rally is a good game for those who appreciate jank
Every second you're driving into a cow or a bus, going through some extremely unbalanced new game mode which you can barely understand, collecting underwear, it's great
Also every item you pick up is beyond any logic or reason, even when you use them you can't understand what they do
I haven't tried it...but...
oooh
Oh, nevermind. Looks like it's just a pre-application of the code to the GG logic.
Not actually bypassing the code.
Found something else though. https://www.romhacking.net/utilities/1659/
Ah cool! Lemme know if it works!
It was released two weeks ago... I wonder if it's sparked by the sudden uptick in N64 activity for...you know...reasons.
will check it out and report my findings
I wish there were actually metrics on how the core has influenced retro gaming as a whole but I feel the PS1/Saturn/N64 has catapulted the MiSTer into being more well known.
But you see a lot of telling signs pop up here and there.
listen newbie
It’s true! I am newbie lol.
Can’t you just overlay core development milestones with discord membership stats over time?
mario keeps freezing on me at the spash screen do I need to upgrade my ram to dual?
depends on what you're trying to measure
"influence" is a pretty loose concept
Super Mario 64 utilizes a hardware function called TLB that’s currently not supported on the core. At this time you’ll need to patch your game to bypass the interactive Mario face in order to play the game.
Patch is in the pins but here’s a link - #1096015979055697940 message
wait you’re trolling
tlb, like the sandwich?
lol damnit
You say that, but as a counterexample #midi message
I remember this, you monster.
Beta testing is fun 😄
https://www.polygon.com/22640171/mister-project-classic-gaming-retro-fpga-board-chip-io-explainer-usb-hub @zinc dew that was probably peak hype, and so sad i don't see comments
they got brutal

Retro gaming is relatively commonplace with emulation or even specifically made devices made by the original manufacturer. But, what happens if you wanted something more and experience gaming like how it was with their original controllers or even see what old computers were like? MiSTe...
and then that on its tail
i don't remember where PSX was in november 2021 though
You’re right, I remember reading that article
It was that, YouTube coverage, and the PS1 core that convinced me I had to get one.
