#

Woah, you can make your own rings

#

Also, these rings have more polygons than the buildings

delicate hearth
#

when I try and pair my N64 NSO controller, the MiSTer recognizes the controller and kinda pairs it, but the pairing light pattern on the controller is still going, and when I go to the gamepad button define screen, it seems to skip past certain input checks at random, and drops out at some point, also at random

rose elbow
#

you've put in the zImage_dtb file from the pins ?

delicate hearth
#

yep, and I rebooted as well

#

I got the latest one from 9/23

#

I'm also on the latest unstable MiSTer build

rose elbow
#

hmm, ive not tested that unstable, i'll have a look

delicate hearth
#

I'm not sure what could be causing this weird half-paired state - has anyone else seen that?

rose elbow
#

yeah yesterday people were having it too but i didn't see response in terms of what was causing it

dusty tusk
#

My switch controller kept randomly shutting off this morning despite being charged, might be a similar issue

rose elbow
#

on the unstable build and still not having the issue here đŸ€”

dusty tusk
#

What adapter are you guys using?

#

Also, looking at code in unstable, think it's automatically setting stick ranges, no user settings

native mesa
#

What's next on the Robert Pipe?

zinc dew
#

Found a bug, not sure if it’s my controller or not. Using an 8BitDo Pro 2, if I map C left to left on stick 2, then when I push left all the way on stick 1 it also activates C left.

#

No other issues with any of the other c button mappings being accidentally triggered.

hollow rune
#

Has anyone actually played Magical Tetris with Mickey Mouse. It is SOOOOO weird

hollow rune
#

Like it goes hard on being aggresively divergent, to the point it is not fun

native mesa
#

Doctors said something similar about me

hollow rune
#

Reading the IGN review, I am convinced the reviewer did not play all the modes

rose elbow
#

i played around on Tony Hawk 3 for a bit and started wondering if i broke my controller settings in the recent updates..

#

but then booting back into mario 64 feels fine. i think Tony Hawk just feels weird on 64 ?? lol

hollow rune
#

I was having analog stick issue myself today in the Fire Temple when getting the megaton hammer. There is that winding narrow path up to it and I cannot remember falling that much trying to get it ever, but maybe I was just not in the zone

#

i just don't remember having to do it that many times over

dusty tusk
#

I think it's weird how the Japanese version is the only one to mention Mickey Mouse at all

hollow rune
dusty tusk
#

Same characters, but the title is Magical Tetris Challenge featuring Mickey Mouse

delicate hearth
#

I'm using a Targus BT adapter which has worked for every other controller thus far

hollow rune
#

That is weird

#

The whole game is weird

#

Apparently you get normal Tetris if you choose Uptown Tetris. I will try that tomorrow

native mesa
#

Watch the movie Tetris

rose elbow
#

viewing a controller battery on the mister isn't doable is it ?

native mesa
#

I think everything is doable

rose elbow
#

Tetris was a good test... i think i was getting the dreaded Ghost Inputs just now but not sure if it was just a battery issue

dusty tusk
#

Linux itself seems to be able to track peripheral battery life better than Windows

#

So it probably is doable

rose elbow
#

bit of a tangent from the broader conversation on controllers i suppose

topaz otter
# dusty tusk

man I almost forgot about the multiplayer in this game

#

and by multiplayer I mean two or more people enjoy the torment of the 7th circle of hell that is this game collectively

brisk edge
#

Somehow I had erased it from my mind as well lol

topaz otter
#

we were clueless and stupid when we rented this game

#

thinking that multiplayer meant that you could play as superman and lex luthor

brisk edge
#

What? Logical thinking and Superman 64? Those don't go together

topaz otter
#

and not multiplayer being mario kart with professor X's wheelchair

#

i had to rent it, I read the IGN review and I couldn't believe it was that bad

brisk edge
#

Honestly for as terrible as the game is, it is fun to mess around with, I just wish it didn't immediately lock you into a ride stage and also give you like 5 seconds to complete objectives. The more open stages are fun to see how broken all the physics are, like how collision barely works and everything explodes

topaz otter
#

its just, they had an idea for a game but that idea was about ten years ahead of what was conceptually possible

brisk edge
#

Also no budget or time

rose elbow
#

and that idea was; what if we had the Superman IP

topaz otter
#

and then it got started over and the version on the cart was done in like six months?

#

but the earlier beta isn't much better

topaz otter
#

rocksteady was going to make a superman game like arkham city

#

but how do you do that and make it fun

rose elbow
#

what if. Starfox but Superman

chilly ember
#

It's hard to make a player feel like superman

topaz otter
#

I mean the closest I can think of is maybe the Hulk game or Prototype

#

in which you are an actual, nearly, invincible superhero

#

but superman is totally invincible

rose elbow
#

yeah thats pretty much i think what im getting at

#

it seems like there wasn't actually Any idea for a game other than; they had the IP

topaz otter
#

Titus was hoping that DC would say no, they did not

rose elbow
#

really ? lool

#

not actually read into it tbh

topaz otter
#
  1. Get Superman IP
  2. ????
  3. Profit!
#

game developers are like the dog chasing the car right, the superman IP is the car

#

every developer wishes they could catch it, but then what the hell do you do with it

rose elbow
#

even all that said tho

#

there's issues with superman 64 liek him clipping through walls and soft locking and stuff that go beyond the issue of "superman is invincible"

#

its just a mess on all accounts lol

chilly ember
#

Pick up a car and fly across the map

topaz otter
rose elbow
#

same developers also did Hercules?

topaz otter
#

it needed like another two years of development time, bug testing, QA

chilly ember
#

Have to restart the entire mission and fly through 4 sets of rings again because the mission doesn't fail because you got too far from the objective

rose elbow
#

have you played that one, that games also hilarious

topaz otter
#

was Hercules also Titus?

chilly ember
#

Tit us

topaz otter
#

Tits up

rose elbow
#

it seems titus also published/ported stuff, but from im seeing Hercules was also developed by Titus yeah

topaz otter
#

its just a buggy horrid mess of a game, don't forget that WB and DC also screwed with the production of this game

#

remember when I said that they wished that DC said no

#

it was because of the RULES

rose elbow
#

did DC also force Titus to make Herculus 64 or Blues Brothers 2000 ?

topaz otter
#

if you put superman in a game you must obey THE RULES

rose elbow
#

at a certain point cant we just say the developers had no idea what they were doing

eternal ravine
#

In a good Supes game, you would travel to other worlds as him and help them with local issues
Plus fight super baddies

rose elbow
#

maybe not the developers but like, the producer of the company or management or something heh

topaz otter
#

theres actually a game on steam that I can't remember the name of it

#

that came out in the early days of vr

#

but its not a vr game

#

you basicaly play in first person as a superman type character

manic thicket
topaz otter
#

and you can fly completely around the globe

#

and you can fly right through buildings

rose elbow
#

which looks like another Superman 64 lol

topaz otter
chilly ember
#

I remember seeing aquaman in all the clearence bins lol

manic thicket
topaz otter
#

he had a hook for a hand or some dumb shit

eternal ravine
#

Still life left in Superman games if they make an open-world one that encompasses everything from Clark Kent daily life
To battling intergalactic foes in space

rose elbow
#

i want star fox Superman !

#

just flying through space and earth metropolis blasting stuff with laser eyes

chilly ember
#

Do a barrel roll

topaz otter
#

ok it was this game

rose elbow
#

1 part Star fox / 1 part daily life as Clark Kent adventure game like Grim Fandango

manic thicket
#

Everyone was disappointed when Rocksteady announced a Suicide Squad game rather than a Superman or Justice League game.

#

Everyone hoped it was Superman

topaz otter
rose elbow
#

whats been going on with Rocksteady, its been real quiet for a long time

dusty tusk
#

Play on easy removes the rings, doesn't make it good but it does make Superman more playable

topaz otter
#

they got backlash from the last suicide squad trailer lol

rose elbow
#

ugh game development is so sad sometimes lol

topaz otter
#

it was going to be monetized to hell

manic thicket
chilly ember
#

Of course

#

I was kinda excited for Gotham knights

rose elbow
#

oh well, i have my mister.. i have my mario wonder coming out soon. i'm good :)

manic thicket
#

Everyone shot a gun... Including Captain Boomerang

chilly ember
#

Who?

rose elbow
#

not sure but i imagine their trademark characteristic is having a shot gun

dusty tusk
#

Outside of Superman and Batman, DC dips in quality fast

chilly ember
#

Hated the suicide squad joker

#

Still do

native mesa
#

Superman is a trash character

manic thicket
#

But a guy called Captain Boomerang should use boomerangs . Like he did in the comics

chilly ember
#

Had a friend who thought that suicide squad joker was sick tho. I'm not friends with him anymore 😂

manic thicket
dusty tusk
#

If you fire straight up, guns are kinda like boomerangs

topaz otter
chilly ember
#

A gun boomerang seems like something a final fantasy character would use

#

Never fire bullets out of it, just throws it

manic thicket
#

Cuz that will work

chilly ember
#

Maybe he's like bulletproof glass, you can break it but you can't shoot through it :p

#

Worth a shot I guess

#

Pun not intended

topaz otter
weary beacon
chilly ember
#

What if superman had a gun and he only used it to throw at criminals

rose elbow
#

lol

manic thicket
#

I guess bringing it back on topic has anyone played though Superman 64 on the core?

rose elbow
#

i'd play it

chilly ember
#

Sega gave shadow a gun. Why can't superman have a gun

chilly ember
manic thicket
#

I think the PS1 version is supposed to be slightly better

weary beacon
manic thicket
topaz otter
#

because its full of so many insane random bugs

rose elbow
chilly ember
manic thicket
#

There is a prototype

topaz otter
#

how do you tell whats the mister core messing up and what is something thats actually fundamentally wrong with the game

manic thicket
#

Of the PS1 version . You can find it

weary beacon
#

That is assuming he cold blow at -70C

topaz otter
#

if I were robert, I would just strike superman 64 from the list altogether

#

don't test it, don't play it

chilly ember
#

Too late

topaz otter
#

because number one its not worth it

#

and number two the game isn't done enough

chilly ember
#

I'm almost on level 5 on superman mode

topaz otter
#

its practically alpha software

topaz otter
chilly ember
#

Watch me 😂

topaz otter
#

because of the softlocks and getting stuck on that one boss

#

you'll have to restart the core

#

its impossible

dusty tusk
#

I remember hearing that there's way to get the hard missions on easy mode

worldly quartz
#

too bad nintendo never made a mini n64. It would have been cool as a snac case

chilly ember
weary beacon
#

You can 3d print anything you want these days.

rose elbow
#

mike matei from cinemassacre did a full playthrough of superman 64. i'm pretty sure he didn't use gameshark cheats or anything. i think the softlocking is like a diceroll ?

#

his playthrough also has him glitching through walls at a point

topaz otter
#

when I last played it, which was many years ago, it was deemed impossible to beat without cheating. But maybe people have figured out a way around it?

rose elbow
#

im just referring to this 15 hour playthrough here aha

eternal ravine
#

@rose elbow
It would be so cool to play out
Choose to ignore another world getting destroyed and stay home as Clark K.

manic thicket
#

@rose elbow

#

That's the PS1 version

rose elbow
topaz otter
rose elbow
eternal ravine
#

Well, you'd have to manage maintaining secrecy re: Clark/Supes identity

rose elbow
#

as i said, he glitches through walls at a point so the game is undeniably unquestionably broken

#

another example lool

chilly ember
#

I glitchdd through a wall last night by accident

#

Can't be that hard to do

rose elbow
#

yeah

topaz otter
#

man watching that cinemassacre video, I forgot how this game looks

rose elbow
#

i think softlocking the game and getting stuck is probably definitely possible

#

but it does seem beatable.. if you're lucky??

chilly ember
#

Maybe lol

rose elbow
#

lool

topaz otter
#

beating this game gives some Titus programmer somewhere a small feeling of satisfaction

#

like he actually succeeded

#

I don't want him to have that

#

I want to take it away

trim birch

weary perch
#

what i do to replace MiSTer main is

  1. rename existing MiSTer to MiSTer.old00 or whatever
  2. copy new MiSTer file over
trim birch
#

cool that's what i did

weary perch
#

i think it might not like directly overwriting sometimes

but renaming is fine

trim birch
#

i have historically never gotten through a stream without at least one technical difficulty

dusty tusk
#

Might have gotten to the root of my USB devices disconnecting so often, my USB hub was weirdly loose

woeful grove
#

zzzz

dusty tusk
chilly ember
#

Maybe mine is loose but I don't think so. I have another one but it's such a rare occurrence that I haven't cared

#

To swap it

dusty tusk
#

The real killer is it often disconnects my hard drive which is very inconvenient

chilly ember
#

That would make me swap instantly but I'm a run everything off a SD card kinda guy. On mister anyways

zinc dew
#

SD, ride or die

dusty tusk
#

If it wasn't for the looming question mark that is the mars project or dual SD ram in certain cores, I'd probably just get a new kit

rose elbow
#

is that a power draw issue maybe ? đŸ€”

chilly ember
#

Haven't touched anything but the N64 core in the last 2 ish months so hooking up a hard drive or ssd is not a priority to me. I have everything on the sd card

dusty tusk
#

Nah, I've got a meanwell power supply

zinc dew
#

Dual ram isn’t needed or rather shouldn’t be needed by any cores.

chilly ember
#

Analog io all the way

dusty tusk
#

Yeah but if I'm gonna replace everything at this point I'd want to look to the future

elfin relic
#

dual ram, digital i/o

chilly ember
#

Never had dual ram. Glad I never bothered

elfin relic

cast off the shackles

zinc dew
chilly ember
rose elbow
#

the "stormtrooper"

chilly ember
#

My biggest issue is dropping a sd card in the case and needing to take it apart to get it out

#

I have a storm trooper case too

#

I took it off lol

rose elbow
#

yeah

#

i think dropping the SD card in the case (we've all done it .. right??) is what prompted to me sit down and finally figure out how to filetransfer via network loool

#

"time to get serious" as megaman x would say

zinc dew
#

My case

dusty tusk

And now you know why I use a hard drive chefkiss

elfin relic

I got some interesting info on the 64DD cart conversions on the Gaming Alexandria discord that may be of interest to people looking at those, and maybe @wanton sun also.

It seems they are compromised not being in the original format, but can make use of some 64DD peripherals and hardware.

Sorry, it's German but Analogue announced an N64 FPGA and I'm always surprised when after an open source project companys come up with the same goal. I hope they're not stealing code. Maybe Robert should implement a secret code where he can execute a pixel / sign or something by a special rom for example

Analogue hat uns heute extrem ĂŒberrascht und ein eigenes FPGA Nintendo 64, mit dem Namen Analogue 3D angekĂŒndigt. Ich bespreche mit euch die News und gebe meinen Senf dazu ab. Hype!

Sim City 64 conversion has RTC.

worn delta
#

-just so everyone is on the same page: because 64DD cart conversions started to work in the core, but nobody really knows how well these things work (or even if they work in some cases) and if you need/can use additional 64DD specific hardware with them, I asked the people who made them. You can see the screenshotted conversation above.

The short of it is they are hacky and sort of work to varying degrees, but the guys who made them now wish they didn't exist and emulators supported the actual disk images - .ndd files.

So now we better know what to expect with these disk to cart conversions. Actual 64DD support always felt like a nice to have, but realistically not on the DE-10 nano. Maybe a cherry on the cake for the core on a future successor board. 🙂

Luckily fzero X Expansion Kit seems to mostly just more of the original, so I can't Imagine the DD version does much more than a cartridge.

It would be good to get a list/table of the games and what hardware each needed/used but I don't think one exists, I'll maybe see about making one. e.g. which games used the RTC, mouse, etc.

zinc dew

Makes me wonder if the DD was out of scope for the 3D

I thought DD was essentially a glorified patcher

cerulean elk
plush summit
#

Well we dont know how much better the 3D specs are, so not sure how much resources they have left over to add the full functionality of the DD

plush summit

Having a "built-in" DD would've been a massive selling point for the nerds 😛

dusty tusk
#

My opinion is something is better than nothing

cerulean elk
plush summit
#

For sure, it's clearly meant to focus on cartridge games

cerulean elk
#

but then again there isnt much hardware IN a DD at all so not like you need to recreate a lot of silicon in logic. More likely the code to handle the data transfer into the N64 itself

#

4MB IPL Rom then whatever in silicon handles the transfer of data

#

theres a CIC chip. Not a biggie

worn delta
#

I would be surprised if there is a jailbreak for analogue clone that is doesn't support 64DD images, that is the sort of niche thing Kevtris would want to support (especially if MiSTer doesn't)

#

Issue they may have us supporting the RTC though if there isn't one on the system

Regarding the N64 core are you allowed to store saves? For example in Wave Race 64 for me it would be amazing to store a save for each level. I imagine Mario Kart 64 and DKR players might desire something like this. Is it possible?

Or would you basically just drag and drop the save file you want to use into a certain location

viscid quiver
#

Wave Race doesn't allow runs on anything besides original hardware but someday may allow emulators/mister. Would make it easier.

cerulean elk
#

If the signal is 59.97 you can use this. Four HDMI in and it will record all four sources as separate files in software.

If it were a disc system it would be infeasible (maybe some Linux linking shenanigans) but ROMs are itty bitty

cerulean elk

And the Atem Mini Pro ISO can dial into the software via Ethernet / second monitor. So it’s fully external. No need for PCI

Polaris Snocross crashes in-race but other than it always happens, it's kind of random, it doesn't seem to correlate with anything happening in the game that i can tell, happens on every track, usually within a minute of starting the race. Rugrats in Paris might be reproducible but is rare if you just let the attract mode run; both times I've seen a crash it's been specifically on a scene transition though

Both times i've seen a crash in Rugrats in Paris, it's specifically been when transitioning out of a scene (presumably loading the next scene in the background), with the Reptar logo transition zooming in and out. both times it was transitioning away from a scene where Chuckie was the playable character in the demo

Virtual Chess 64 is such a weird game. i realized why it's so hard - the game's chess engine is a straight port of a very-strong-for-the-90s chess engine (Virtual Chess) for PC. the difficulty options do not change the engine's analysis whatsoever - they only give it less time to think. no wonder this game slaughters me even on the lower difficulties

it may well have been the strongest chess engine released on consoles in 1998
