Thanks all 🙂

For mischief makers you need to set pad speed to normal

#

In debug settings

zenith orchid
#

Make sure you apply this patch and set the aspect ratio to 16:9 or full depending on your screen

#

Whoops, didn't mean to tag the guy

rough flax
#

it's cool lol

zenith orchid
#

😅

#

Thanks for providing the patch, its so good!

cerulean elk
#

That’s in the next vid. But I might move it to thurs

languid dune
#

A shame that the patch for widescreen F-Zero X that doesn't stretch the 2D assets doesn't work. Not a huge deal, but that would have been chefkiss

zenith orchid
#

All it needs is a built in dithering disabled. So I don't have to turn it back on when I switch it to other games. F-Zero X really doesn't suffer from color banding

Not gonna lie…I like it better 4x3

cerulean elk
#

You do get some Brian 64 widescreen though @languid dune

zenith orchid
#

Oh yeah, where is the Brian 64 ws patch?

#

We really should keep all widescreen patches in a place where they are easy to find

chilly ember
hollow rune
#

How many of these are there

chilly ember
#

There's a bunch. Yxkalle posted a YouTube channel that had some too

hollow rune
#

and I am not going to lie, I am not sure how into it I am. I am glad it exists though

zenith orchid
#

SM64, MK64, F-Zero, Brian64.. not sure what else

chilly ember
zenith orchid
#

is that an actual patch? or is it a hacked emulator mode?

chilly ember
#

I play on a 4:3 crt most of the time so I probably won't use much of the widescreen patches but the option is cool

languid dune
#

Truth be told, the low res anamorphic widescreen of N64 games (and PS1 games via that core's OSD) never really looked good to me. Anamorphic widescreen really only starts to look good when getting into 480p territory in my opinion. Seeing those stretched out pixels and detail loss just doesn't do it for me. F-Zero X is one of the few examples that I think works well because that game moves so fast and doesn't have much detail to begin with.

chilly ember
#

I didn't try any of the patches from that YouTube channel. I believe they're just gameshark codes in a patch for widescreen

zenith orchid
languid dune
#

It's a problem with all detail though.

hollow rune
#

Playing Saturn right now, and it just doesn't do it for me like N64 or even Playstation does. It leaned too hard into the Arcade type of games

zenith orchid
#

Saturn really shines with shmups

languid dune
#

For that generation of consoles, it's Saturn>PS1>N64 for me personally.

toxic pumice
#

Saturn is the arcade gamer's console

zenith orchid
languid dune
fair stump
zenith orchid
languid dune
#

That's the nature of anamorphic widescreen.

zenith orchid
#

Ah, so despite the increased FOV, its still the same resolution before it is stretched

languid dune
#

It just stretches all the pixels out to fill the screen. Which means less detail in everything. Including 3D visuals.

zenith orchid
#

I didn't really notice it that much, maybe because of the interpolation

hollow rune
zenith orchid
#

N64 is really a party system

hollow rune
#

but it also was a scale and scope system. The other two cannot create the vast spaces found in B&K, Mario, Zelda and the others

vapid hawk
#

i think n64 has better fps games overall than psx

fair stump
hollow rune
#

FFVII creates epic moments. Zelda Majora's Mask has epic spaces

#

both are valuable

#

I love FFVII

zenith orchid
#

Wild Arms was the first game I played on my PSX back in the day

native mesa
vapid hawk
#

both consoles had unique strengths and that meant that they both have excellent but different games tailored to those strengths

#

it was a much more interesting time than todays console wars for sure lol

native mesa
#

Don't forget saturn

vapid hawk
#

also saturn was there 😛

languid dune
toxic pumice
#

Saturn was what blew my mind, honestly

languid dune
#

The version on the right is the widescreen version.

junior yarrow
#

The Saturn had something no other console had

toxic pumice
#

What do you MEAN I can play Daytona USA, Sega Rally and VF2 at home on my console? Those are arcade machines!

junior yarrow
#

Mr Bones

zenith orchid
vapid hawk
#

i never really played saturn until much later, post dreamcast, so i never really had too many wow moments with it

#

panzer dragoon is impressive tho

hollow rune
native mesa
#

Widescreen would likely benefit from bilinear

languid dune
hollow rune
junior yarrow
#

I like burning rangers even if its pretty janky

vapid hawk
#

resident evil on saturn is good. but its good on everything 😄

toxic pumice
#

Nights was absolutely great

junior yarrow
#

I enjoy that whole generation where games didn't entirely work yet

toxic pumice
#

Burning Rangers is janky as hell but still very fun

zenith orchid
junior yarrow
toxic pumice
#

It was legitimately the most fun generation of consoles for me lol

hollow rune
zenith orchid
#

Yeah I don't think the M on his hat can be fixed in widescreen

#

With PSX you can get true widescreen since all games use the same GTE, and its hackable. But most N64 games use unique RDP microcode

prisma ivy
#

A family of four? In this economy?

junior yarrow
hollow rune
#

Since I was like a baby panda during that time, I have zero connection

toxic pumice
#

but still, cost of living. wew

I suppose cost of living is just as bad over there as it is here in Canada

#

Its a good thing we have MiSTer. What a cost saver 😜

toxic pumice

zenith orchid
hollow rune
toxic pumice
#

I have very strong opinions on the subject that have no place in an N64 core channel. 😛

prisma ivy
#

Such value. Much cores

hollow rune
#

But Mario Wonder is out on Friday!

toxic pumice
#

almost like my strong opinions on Master difficulty F-Zero X because EEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

#

this is just silly

prisma ivy
#

I must admit I have never played ANY F Zero game

zenith orchid
#

I think in master difficulty you really gotta use risky stunts to skip parts of some of the tracks

toxic pumice
#

The original is one of my favourite racing games of all time, fully completed the snes version on master

#

this is on another level

languid dune
zenith orchid
#

SNES version it seemed kinda cheap to jump over large sections of the track. It seems later games embraced that

zenith orchid
# languid dune

Yeah so it seems with CRT simulation, the difference is not as noticeable, but still there

languid dune
#

Will always pretty much be the same results. Filters just make it a bit less noticeable by blurring the image.

junior yarrow
#

Now go and beat FZero GX on the hardest difficulty

zenith orchid
languid dune
toxic pumice
#

I couldn't even imagine

zenith orchid
toxic pumice
#

GX is beyond my skill level by a very large margin

languid dune
#

I was absolutely obsessed with the game though.

#

It's my favorite racing game of all time.

junior yarrow
#

Alternatively you can bring your memory card to the nearest Fzero AX arcade machine you totally have nearby

vapid hawk
#

is there a build of mister-main i should grab to check out all the dual-stick stuff? or is it still being worked on

zenith orchid
languid dune
#

GX does still feel quite a bit different though.

zenith orchid
#

I really like the feel of X, haven't gotten used to GX

vapid hawk
#

GX is tough, maybe the hardest racer i've ever played

toxic pumice
#

easily the hardest i've played

hollow rune
vapid hawk
#

i think i got to like, stage 4 or something

#

like, using guides and incredible amounts of practice, and luck

zenith orchid
#

Were you guys pretty good at X?

vapid hawk
#

no, GX is the first one i played really

zenith orchid
#

That might be why

vapid hawk
#

possibly yeah

prisma ivy
#

Should my first F Zero experience be in the next 10 minutes on this N64 core?

chilly ember
#

I suck at f zero but I hardly ever played it. Wasn't a game I had in the past so don't have much experience with it

languid dune
zenith orchid
vapid hawk
#

fzeroX is a good one to start

prisma ivy
#

I shall give it the ol college try

vapid hawk
#

the thing it doesn't really tell you anywhere is like, tap A round tight turns

languid dune
#

I think it's worth trying out the SNES game first just to see the series' humble beginnings as a tech demo. Then F-Zero X will blow your mind afterwards.

prisma ivy
#

I hope it doesn't give me motion sickness hah. Guh I really need to train my body for that

vapid hawk
#

if you're especially motion sickness sensitive, it definitely could. 60 fps, and a lot of upside-down, loop-de-loops etc

zenith orchid
# prisma ivy I shall give it the ol college try

You probably won't get far in GP mode, but it's worth a try. then I would say do practice mode, and try to beat your record lap a few times before moving on to the next track. When you feel confident to give GP another try, go for it 👍

languid dune
#

Just keep that barf bag handy and you'll be allll good!

toxic pumice
#

instead of using the airbrakes, just keep smashing that trigger to take the turn

zenith orchid
#

And don't forget to use the trigger buttons to help with the sharp turns

vapid hawk
#

yeah but side-shifting takes a lot more coordination

languid dune
#

In all seriousness, I don't think it'll be a problem. At least for me, first-person shooters and some VR games are the only types of games that have ever given me motion sickness.

vapid hawk
#

i've not had motion sickness in vr for a while now, i think i've got used to it entirely

languid dune
#

Yeah, side-shifting is a more advanced technique. I recommend newcomers to mostly stick to the basics before getting too far into stuff like that.

toxic pumice
#

Get. In. The. BIN.

One down, 3 to go

prisma ivy
#

Its mostly FPS that makes me motion sick but for some odd reason Vectorman does it too?

chrome quest
#

Easiest method to cover all sorts of mods is use the latest unstable MiSTer, and use the "new" database file (which must be renamed to "N64-database.txt");
https://github.com/MiSTer-devel/N64_ROM_Database/blob/main/N64-database_new.txt
That way you don't need to manually add the hash to your database file for each mod (which you could do if you don't want unstable MiSTer, but the new database is far more convenient IMO)

prisma ivy
#

When you're practicing a race is it supposed to just loop endlessly

cerulean elk
prisma ivy
#

Also just a few minutes of this and I can feel it making me sick haha. I need to just play a minute or two each day to build my tolerance

zenith orchid
chrome quest
# cerulean elk Wait is this newer than the stock vampier one?

I believe so. You need unstable MiSTer, unless the Vampier guide is updated to suggest using it. Not grabbed by update_all for that reason too (yet). Just need a new release of MiSTer and the "new" format is intended to replace the old if I understood chat earlier about the topic

cerulean elk
chrome quest

Works by game ID, so avoids needing individual hash values for say randomisers

@prisma ivy The way I approach it is I first practice navigating the track comfortably without colliding. second I try to hit the most boosters on the track consistently. then finally I maximize use of the booster power while also hitting all the booster pads on the track

Hey guys. This may have been covered before, but is there a patch for Super Mario 64 that patches for TLB and widescreen at the same time?

i want wrestlemania 2000 text to be fixed because i think it was the last wrestling game on the n64 so it had the most features

prisma ivy

like weapons under ring and crowd, more options to customize a wrestler and better story

I just remembered my favorite line in any GameFAQ

comparing the PS1 and N64 versions of Megaman Legends

#

"6.Capcom takes advantage of the N64's extra graphical beef by adding Anti-Aliasing to the graphics. This makes everything smooth, so the visuals are no longer pixellated and everything looks far less jagged. The game looks about 30% more realistic than the PS1 version."

#

Can anyone confirm that there’s a bug (likely with dither) that makes a repeated pattern in things like the sky box?

#

Even with dedither on, I can see it slightly. It looks just like the bug you get in a convolutional filter logic design when somethings off (repeating pattern every n pixels where n is likely the size of the window). Is that what the actual N64 had?

#

It’s most obvious right at the end credits in Mario 64 when the screen fades to the end picture of the cake.

oh test build 😄

wanton sun
#

newest build has FPU exceptions as error flag bit 4. If you see this pop up (e.g. E000010) at the same time some issue (hang, bug) occurs, please tell me

#

if it pops up without issue, please ignore

Me describing the developement speed of the N64 Core:

frail jolt
#

Do we know who'd doing the dev work on the analog n64?

round rune
#

Any speculation on “support for 4k” with Analogue’s device? Is it possible we see the same upscaling with Robert’s? Don’t we really just have native resolution and widescreen with the current core?

modern sleet
#

Robert squashing them bugs

chilly ember
#

We already have analog on the core

viscid quiver

#

"Support for 4K" just means the FPGA can output 3840x2160, they'll probably add some 4K filters like the ones that exists through Retroarch or on the Mister itself just at a higher resolution

round rune
#

Thank you for that explanation!

languid dune
round rune
#

I was wondering if they were going to do it like emulation and actually scale the pixels up.

frail jolt
#

I think Robert is diligently working on this so he can get that analog paycheck.... let's be honest lol

(And even if he is...more power to him...he's sharing whatever hw does with the core fpga community before analog)

ornate obsidian
#

I can guarantee it wont be rendering at 4K, only outputing

fair stump

A fresh build and people are talking about analogue cringe
