Yeah Saturn seems to still have major problems with sound
I'm just being patient on that one

#

I don't think it changes anything pertaining to the core compatability I think it's just a matter of the most recent version being in the database

You can also just add its MD5 it to a user database file

If you ran update all, your off the unstable MiSTer again

fickle yew

i manually put unstable back on

coral timber
fickle yew

i also rolled back to previous unstable just to check

might be that?

#

i do get the autodetect error like you said which was new to me, i dont believe i noticed that before

chrome quest
fickle yew
#

was there ever instructions posted for using database file? i cant recall ever doing this manually

chrome quest
#

The autodect is almost certainly all the issue is. New unstable plus that file worked for me. Also gets saves working on the patched PD too for example

#

I don't think so, I was asking about this myself this morning

fickle yew
#

okay because im unfamiliar

coral timber
#

Where is the new database file saved to on the MiSTer?

fickle yew
#

where to put it and what to rename it

chrome quest
#

I'm not sure you "need" to do it this way though. I've not used update all in a while personally. But as people are manually applying the unstable MiSTer, I guess that falls in the remit of people happy to mess around in WIP state

fickle yew
#

alright well it was worth a try but putting the N64-database.txt in the roms folder didnt solve the issue of games that should be working, simply not

coral timber
#

There's a part in vampier.net that mentions the N64 core and it's database can up updated through the "updater" script, is that different from update-all? Because for some reason I don't have it and I guess that would explain why I never had the database file.

hearty oar
#

I'm surprised so few games are "completable", although I also wonder if that's a silly metric

They're just completable in that people took the time to hit credits

#

There are surely a bunch more out there

fickle yew
fair stump
#

And sports games that have franchise modes and stuff, eh I'm not gonna play more than a single match for testing

coral timber
# fickle yew which part was it that got it working?

The downloader.ini change would have functioned how I originally thought it was going to, it just turns out I totally forgot to edit the file again after my recent fresh re-flash of the SD Card

So no new downloader or anything like I confusingly asssumed, just update-all as usual

chrome quest
languid dune
#

I'm still using the old database file and an _user database file without issues. Do those stop working if I move to the latest unstable?

chrome quest
# fickle yew which part was it that got it working?

Sorry, I had started trying to help you by sticking to the idea you'd manually been using the latest unstable. If you don't want that for any particular reason, just use update all after applying the edit noted in the second pin on this channel

coral timber

fickle yew

Are you using the patched version of mario?

fickle yew

no from nointro romset

It won't run unless you patch out his face from the beginning of the game

fickle yew

i thought we were past needing the noface patch

trim seal
#

Nope. That's TLB.

fair stump
#

You may be mixing up two things. His face at the beginning of the game has always been a problem. That's the no face patch. Early cores didn't display Mario's face in game correctly, that was fixed and was not what the patch is for

fickle yew
#

okay i may have been completely misrepresenting then, in which case thats fully my own fault

#

i could have swore i was running mario without patch

Speaking of this, I don’t want to imagine how Japanese gamers beat this game. tawdry depot

It's only for the USA games right now

orchid nimbus

the 11 is a comibation of 2 errors with a space to 5 long

#

so most are not updated

#

@tawdry depot to be honest - the USA collection is good enough for now

#

it has a pretty good overview on what seems to be missing/broken

tawdry depot
#

@wanton sun here is a snapshot of all games that games the raise a bit 10 error.

orchid nimbus
#

@echos are error codes updated - and how long is 'testing' normally?

trim seal
#

Don't know if it's related or helpful, but Mortal Kombat Trilogy hangs predictably in the exact same spot - when Kitana's bio is coming on screen, regardless of if her bio is first or after a bunch of others.

orchid nimbus
#

just trying to get a feel for how reliable they are

tawdry depot
#

I was talking to @hollow rune about that earlier. I was going through and updating some of the older tested cores.

orchid nimbus
#

I saw that

tawdry depot
#

I don't think much has changed in terms of the error bits, other than more bits being added.

#

Just need to add bitwise OR to sum up error codes

orchid nimbus
#

that's not what I'm talking about

tawdry depot
#

The error codes are only as accurate as the people updating the spreadsheet

orchid nimbus
#

error codes might have changed as a lot of RDP has been added

#

I understand that

tawdry depot
#

In my tests earlier, I cleared them out if unable to reproduce

orchid nimbus
#

currently all the error codes that are 4 and 5 long should be suspect

#

just how old those are

tawdry depot
#

Yea, it's probably going to take a bit more work when people check new builds

orchid nimbus
#

I know 🙂

#

@wanton sun the overview is nice but does not represent the state of the current core

#

(for those who want to mess around on the sheet make sure you copy/paste it to a 'local' workbook)

#

maybe add a flag on old reviews

#

re-testing requested

latent galleon
#

i mean a hell of a lot has changed in a short amount of time

orchid nimbus
#

if error codes are that important

#

I'm not trying to minimize all the work the testers do (it's been a great thing to see)

#

but sometimes data needs to be taken as a whole

wanton sun
#

it's not that important, i was just curious because of the high number for a case that should basically never happen

#

i still need to work on reducing the error flags to appear at all before

latent galleon
#

@wanton sun i was asking earlier how much you have left to do before what's left is a bug? outside of TLB i mean

wanton sun
#

still at least 2 months(without tlb)

orchid nimbus
#

tawdry depot
#

@wanton sun for the github build action, could we have the build statics of fabric utilization included in the artifact?

wanton sun

amount of logic % used?

latent galleon
#

although the winking star with divot enabled was probably something

wanton sun
#

it doesn't really fit to the release notes

tawdry depot
#

Not the release notes, just the build log in the github action

#

It's more of a technical curiosity

orchid nimbus
wanton sun
#

i'm not sure what you mean. The release is not autobuilded, i just upload a rbf and add some release notes

#

each build can have severe timing issues, so i handpick a build i would upload, so with a larger audience we will not have some de10-nanos running the core unstable because of too high slacks

latent galleon
daring meteor
#

Is that why the seed gets changed every now and than?

wanton sun
#

yes, i want you to run a build that is made for 82-85mhz and not one that only can do 70-75. For me those "slow builds" seem to run just fine, but with more boards there is a much higher chance one fails

#

like yes, still an n64 controller plugged in, stop asking 0x50002

wanton sun
#

#

it's more in the 1 us range

basically every response seems to trigger a new request already

latent galleon

i got my raspberry pico talking to my n64 controller last week...and knowing how it communicates i am surprised that works at all for body harvest

it takes 32us to even send a request? 4us per bit

wanton sun
#

i'm still a bit unsure how all those games will behave if i made the PIF stall until the pad response is there. Asking 4 pads is like 120 us

#

it's 9 bits with stop, so should be around 36 per pad

latent galleon

oh right, the 9th bit

i send that and then wait for the controller to pull low and read the next 32 bits

I'm interesting in FPGA programming but i'm a beginner. I would like to know if the analog video signal generated by the mister is :

  1. The digital picture provided by core that mister scale and generate a PAL/NTSC signal
  2. The core generate video analog signal with original dot clock and hsync/vsync signals, and the all this signals are directly output to the signal connector (scart for example)?

I found something odd. It's not a core bug, but it only happens with the core because of the output. My Samsung Q80T (sucks, do not recommend) dejitter (lfr compensation) in game motion plus causes huge purple artifacts to appear every few frames in very specific areas and with blur features on. It is common enough that it has some forum posts for modern games, but the resolution makes it super subtle. It's really interesting that the VI features cause it so reliably, though. This tv is a pile. I guess I have to use the core as an excuse to upgrade since it's my wife's favorite system. Or just keep the jank setting turned off in the tv. But....still.....

manic basin
#

Some people have better luck with a usb extender (me included) for keeping the signal strong as the power sandwich and/or case can attenuate the signal a bit. So I generally recommend that if you're further than 6 feet from your MiSTer. But it's probably not necessary for most.

# orchid nimbus WebOS is your doing?

When I was working on it, there were no ads beyond the branded media buttons on the remote and the default apps. In 2014, most people didn’t connect their smart TVs to WiFi — a lot just used ATSC and a separate media device. webOS was a Palm invention, the tech stack was set long before I got there to try and get the product engineering to be reasonably efficient.

#

back then, they were losing about a dollar per phone sold and margins on even high-end TVs were trending the same way. I have a lot of empathy for anyone trying to amortize their amazing R&D outcomes when someone can undercut/outspend you with little/no R&D.

orchid nimbus
#

@uncut gyro correct - I don't have to connect it to my WiFi and that's exactly what I'm doing 😄

I’m no great defender of any employer I’ve had, and not even necessarily products that shipped with my involvement. But implying “120hz BFI and OLED” is somehow free R&D and manufacturing bringup/scaling that no one needs to ultimately pay for is a Very Interesting take.

LG has not do that so far. My WyzeCams on the other hand have done this and I replaced them with a company that's not so secretive about their goals 😉

Oh neat, I’m a big fan of the Amiga accelerator scene even though I never had an Amiga growing up. Seeing the Vampire modules definitely fired me up about FPGA and OpenCores. I tried founding a company around OpenCores to accelerate the creation of OpenWRT-based devices to commoditize network appliance customization. I was just too early and couldn’t get capital. Now that I can self-capitalize, my interests are elsewhere (XR)

I never had any interest of starting a company - the risk of being bankrupted by a 'customer' is just too big in the US. Even if you do everything flawlessly there will always be 1 person who will see an opporunity to take everything you've been working for

#

and I honestly just don't want to deal with it

(Perhaps to no effect, I thought I was missing a game on the list, can't tell if anything is actually being filtered at the moment)

I helped some dude out once with reinstalling his computer at is was infested with viruses and god knows what else - I told him he was going to lose all his dat that wasn't backed up. He said 'ok' and so I reinstalled all his crap and drivers. 2 weeks later he called furiously complaining about all sorts of stuff that had nothing do with me what I did..... told me he would sue me.... that was the last time I helped someone without them signing a stupid 'held harmless' clause.

Damn look at those N64 prices lol

Game hunting in Tampa FL

fair stump

Somehow cheaper than that one VGE posted here

zinc dew

Yeah he’s in Chicago, while Midwest is generally cheaper it gets pricier in big cities

Tampa is much cheaper than Dallas for example, but only on the mundane

@wanton sun You probably already know this and its all elementary for you 🙃 but I thought I would share maybe a quick way to fix the centering. Difference of H_START, H_END then use 640 as the baseline to create an offset. E.g. 640 - the difference of (H_END - H_START)

Ill shut up about the analog stuff for now 🙂

To open the console, I need a special tool usually called game bit. Such sc...
