#Nintendo 64

I agree with that
Hard Corps seems like a Treasure game to me
It kinda is ..
its sick
Not sure if it was made after former Konami staff formed treasure
There's a certain manic feel it nails
its hardcore, pun intended
I've actually been playing the arcade Super Contra
Well shit all this talk about castlevania has got me wanting to attempt a run ..
Arcade Contras are odd
Castlevania 64 is awesome, beat it 100% back in the day with all the different characters and everything.
Arcade jackal ! Amazing … arcade contra .. no thanks
How hard is castlevania 64? Is there anything else dumb like the bomb part?
Tbh I never got around to beating it …
Didn’t it own it as a kid because of the bad rep it had :.
Mostly why I wanna play it now
I always heard it wasn't great so i never really played much of it, people were saying it's better after the first level but i never played that far lol
N64 never got the poverty platformers like Bubsy and Zool, right?
ill playthrough both 64 castlevanias when the core is a little further along
and when i have an n64 controller
Lol
I think N64 required too much of an investment to develop for to make shovelware
Yeah, thankfully
Quality over quantity!
Tried out that Perfect Dark patch, and yeah, that's definitely Perfect Dark on the N64 core.
I think it disables the d-pad though for some reason.
We will never know how Shaq Fu 64 could have turned out
Try hercules ..
I love clay fighters
Better than Brian 64 I’m sure
Shots fired! Robby is down! I repeat. Robby is down!
I'll give Clay Fighters one thing - You can actually play it OK
I'll give it another try on the current core
Don’t play the sculptors cut
It has more characters but they removed the super easy combo system
Poor Hobo Cop never made any cut.
That's it. The gloves are off.
Someone, one person, worked hard on that game
I used to play around with all the cheats
(I'm kidding, I have never played it)
Or maybe it was a gameshark
I had it as a kid .,!
Does gameshark work in this core yet?
But why are Glover's thumb and pinky the same!? I ask yee? Why!?
Two fingers couldn't be more different!
It must have been to distinguish from Hamburger Helper
He's already a monstrosity with only 4 fingers. But they had to take it a step further. He is no glove for a human hand!
Still not as bad as Wild Woody
Only Amiga games can have worse mascots
WHY wielding dynamite
Because he's WILD
And rapey, going by the looks of "it"
The cutscenes in that game are very manic and bizarre
the point of mister for me is that it provides a much lower latency experience than software emulation, even on LCD
from what I've seen, play-ahead in software EMU glitches out sometimes. mister doesn't really do that.
itll make it look so bad
I think it looks better. and I grew up with NES, SNES, N64, etc, all on CRTs.
not everyone prefers CRTs. CRT vs LCD is basically a console war. so, silly.
can't really argue against opinions. they're opinions
so, personal
CRTs can be great to have, but the size potential cannot compete with HDTVs
yeah. I'm not anti CRT either. but I don't have the interest enough to expend the effort and cash to acquire one, or the space 😄
and I love big ass TVs
don't feed da trooooolls...unless their name rhymes with casketbake
MiSTer (or more specifically, the Mean Well PSU) is a noisy bastard. Can see the moment in the waterfall when I turned it on.
My last CRT was 40 inches and weighed 304 pounds. Loved that thing, but I don't miss the space it took up.
Holy crappe, 40"?
I have a 34" and that TV is a nightmare to move
i think coming into this channel in particular and slagging on fpga accuracy, hyping software emulation, etc...is pretty trolly
but it also went on for like an hour
yeah. this is the wrong place for all that too, probably
Damn right. That 34" Sony KV-34XBR910 widescreen I had weighed 200 lbs, and that was more than enough for me (and two other people) to deal with.
I see it as some people can't help themselves but assert their opinion as objective
I guess I didn't know they made actual 40" CRTs
I thought you had to move to projection TVs at that point
and don't really understand how to engage in good faith discussion
but,
it was also a while ago. obv I was reading the scrollback and replying to whatever was interesting to me
and got trolled 😄
Here's an old picture of that CRT:
So crisp
Mine had a similar stand and style.
@languid dune
Oooohhh, yeah I've seen that one. Even saw one for sale somewhat locally
I do miss it sometimes.
My parents had one like that.
I'd get the 4:3 one, but my 16:9 CRT was not worth the pain
And doesn't display 240p well
Good for PS2 and uhh a couple others at least
I had it since the mid '00s. It served its purpose. I gave it up when I got my first 55" Vizio M-series.
Wasn't impressed with how '240p' consoles looked on it, so that's why I wasn't too heartbroken letting it go.
When I gave mine up, it was for a Panasonic plasma.
All I could think of was "I don't have to move this 200 lb bitch anymore!" 😄
The PS3 looked great on it though.
...but looked better on the Vizio. 🙂
Yeah, I gave mine away for free to one of my friend's parents. All it cost him was that he had to move it out of the house himself. 🤣
I do enjoy playing on CRT to this day, but due to space constraints, I can't justify using it all the time. I'll usually do this when friends come over, but most of the time I'll play on LCD. The latency compared to a CRT is about half a frame with vsync_adjust=2 with my crappiest LCD or about 1/4 of a frame on my best LCD.
I just keep them around for testing zappers and 3D stuff with old consoles
And some like the SC-3000 just look right on a small CRT via composhite
Pretty much the same here. The movers that handled getting all the stuff we had in storage into the house we're in now, I just let them have it, because it was one of the last things left on the truck, and I didn't feel like dealing with it. Seemed like the perfect opportunity to say "You know what, guys? You fight over it, if you want it."
They were thrilled... and so was I, to be honest.
Robert is gonna wear out his finger scrolling
I think he looks for mentions of his name for anything important
Plus people calm down with off topic when he's around
Also, I'm not old enough to have stopped hearing the annoying 15kHz whine when playing on a TV instead of a PC monitor.
Is there a way to put the N64 core into Fullscreen for use with the 240p 120hz hack? I noticed the OSD doesn't show Aspect Ratio as an option yet being a test core.
A few edge cases put them behind the MiSTer cores but pretty close from what I hear.
where can I find this hack
I own a mega sg and super nt .. played em for a solid year before I got my MISTer ..
I found it from this vid.

Both great machines once you jail break them
What kind of controller connection system is there, SNAC? After all, mega sg has the ability to connect two controllers....
The $200 Analogue consoles seem like decent value to me
Not sure why we are talking about analogue systems for non nintendo 64 in the nintendo 64 thread lol
Been like that all night
The mega sg is the better value .. since you also get master system, GG, and the early japan only sega consoles
Is #fpga-platforms too busy bashing mars so the analogue prospects end up here?
This is already the main thread for talking about everything)
I was all another abalogue until I discovered the MISTer project
But I digress , let’s move this to fpga platforms or whatever
Yeah! Sry Robert
Rza Bobby
I hope he doesn't ragequit due to our random chit chat
I don't know anything about custom modelines with this core but I'll bring this back up in case somebody else here does
I believe crt isn't fully implemented at the minute though
From the pins so your mileage may vary at this point if it's a crt thing
I've been playing Ocarina of Time again for the first time in maybe 10 years or so? When did the 3DS port come out?
Wow it really holds up. So excited to start doing randomized runs once I finish the base game again to refamiliarize myself.
hot take, oot is pretty good you all
I kinda wish there was a rom hack for ocarina of time on n64 that mirrored everything like that extra mode you get on 3ds when you finish it
did you play the master quest version?
I always loved how the two versions of Twilight Princess did that right from the start.
Mm, 120hz is a hacky workaround for VGA CRTs so I'd understand if that feature is just baked into 15khz support as a whole - but if there happens to be a workaround for not having the OSD toggle, that'd open this up for people to use freely until 15Khz support is working.
I imagine it wouldn't be too difficult to add support for just that if there isn't a way though
Is it worth suggesting somewhere for a future test build?
Yea, i just never finished it
I never played it yet. im gonna re-beat the original first
Unfortunately I know nothing about all of that 😅 but it sounds like something you could ping him about and he could give you an answer
IV feels like a natural progression of the series to me. Many improvements not the least of which is the 8 way whip which feels soooo good I can't imagine why it didn't become the standard. Rondo is awesome but I prefer IV.
IV is my top, then Rondo, then Bloodlines, then III, then the original and everything else is meh
theres a QoL rompatch for 2 that makes it more playable
2 I have nostalgia for but it's "fuck this game" nostalgia
true, definitely probably a must have
it sucks you need a guide for it
4 is my least favourite "good" castlevania game
the vibes are weird and bland compared to the rest of the series
I still like it well enough but I'd rather play 1, 3, Rondo, Bloodlines, or any of the Iga games
i still need to play thru 2 properly. i have a lot of respect for it but mostly from the outside looking in, i don't really enjoy playing it 😅
but the soundtrack is sooooooo good
i was thinking about this too also. like i can't wait for the N64 core to be able to boot Castlevania 64, but also.. is it going to be a thing of booting it, saying "neat" then moving on to something else LOL
underrated track https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-HUwLA57paU

ill play through them both, but they are definitely on the bottom of the Castlevania list I think
i def wanna try and play thru them at least once
yea for sure

I think the 2nd one is suppose to be better
even though you are a werewolf or whatever
but thats a nice unique idea for castlevania
yeah. weird decision to make a merged sequel/first game revision into one
everyone ive heard talk about that game says "2nd one is better but probably still play C64 first"
true
i do kinda want to check them out even though they're unequivocally bad
from what I remember the 2nd n64 game had better flow, the 1st was not bad, but felt like they barely started with 3d
they probably arent bad games, just bad castlevanias
i def love that vibe of early 64 and PS1 games where it feels like the devs are learning how to battle with 3D .. granted it makes for games with bad controls, bad camera.. but also, the games are all so unique and interesting because of it. it feels like digging thru janky NES games a bit
TMNT platformer on NES also gives me CV vibes, the soundtrack. if that's just a soundfont thing or different composers using the same tools
they're both konami right?
ya
konami had that signature drum sound
i think it's a same tools thing
yeah
they sound so identical tho its really funny
Which perfect dark rom version do i have to use in order to patch the TLB ?
8.7/revision A
Is there a trick to saving games with this core? According to my research, saving and loading was supported about a month ago, but whenever I save a game and reset, my data is gone when I try to load it
I have Autosave on in the core menu
I believe it depends on the save type of the game
do you have to reset after you save?
If it's a controller pak game you may need to try formatting the pak before hand
i'm not 100% sure but i do recall discussion earlier that unstable mister build might also play into it #1096015979055697940 message
So far I've tried Bomberman Hero and the no-face patched SM64
Mario should just work so bitroast may be right
what
get off the drugs
drugs are bad
That game was life changing when I played it
Ah, so maybe saving is borked in the latest version is what you mean?
Then everybody hyped Rondo and I played it and was like "wtf you can't even diagonal whip"
It was weird to me In that aspect after coming from 4. I loved being able to whip diagonally
When you have mario loaded what is the save type set to in the osd system settings?
I mean it helps that I came to it late
None. I think I see the problem now 😂
Ah there you go
Mine is set to EEPROM4
I think that comes from the n64 database file
thats what the database file, it sets up the osd settings per game ?
Do you have the latest copy of that?
Is the dB file something I should have set up when I installed the core?
Probably not
(again im not 100% sure on this stuff aha, i should keep mouth shut and let other people explain instead of guessing. 😅 )
I'm no expert either so it's fine 😅
we like trying to figure this stuff out
Usually I use update_all to manage my cores so this is my first time setting one up manually
You'll see a section for the database file
Feel free to read over the whole page to make sure you're set up right
xenogears definitely did this.
Enjoy! My general tip is always play a little, save, and try to reload
Also looks like with a change to downloader.ini I can manage it with the update script
Still no luck
I'll give these tips a shot and see if that solves my saving issue, thanks!
Did you load non patched perfect dark first so it chooses right cic and save type?
if i have to hear princess peach invite me over for cake.. one more time...
Banjo Kazooie intro
i'm on track now with the saves but there was def a period where i was seeing that intro countless times
No I didn't , so first I have to load the unmodded rom in order to make the n64 core pre configure the game automatically before booting the modded one ?
i think you can also edit the database text file manually
Yea that's the easiest way because it's not in the database yet
loading the unmodded rom first will configure the OSD settings as per the original game. then if u boot into the patched rom and it doesn't match anything in the database file, it'll keep the settings as per the previously loaded game (which would be the unmodded perfect dark rom)
Still no luck just in case... which SHA-1 is the perfect dark I have to patch ?
are you using beat.exe for patching ?
shieeeeeeet, Im literally looking for PD too lol
Thanks This should be pinned
I thought it was mentioned enough to where it didn't have to be. Besides, it's not N64-specific. It's a very common tool for patching all kinds of ROMs.
Try this build of the core I just did. It should occupy the full image, no matter what resolution you set.
ty all I've finally did it , problem was wrong rom version
Awesome! Good job! 🙂
Indeed SHA-1 AF8788AC4D1A57260EAE9C53FFE851FCF2A3319B it's the correct one
I keep seeing this particular mushroom on my YouTube feed. Is it any good?
People seeing mushrooms on their YouTube feeds?
I feel like I'm missing out on something...
feels like that pesky walrus boss is much harder with the "high performance" patch. I had to resort to using T.T
underrated gif comment
For the love of god someone patch mischief makers and Golden eye 007 haha
I see that you are a man of culture as well.
GoldenEye 007 = Perfect Dark Zero?
as it's the spiritual predecessor to Perfect Dark?
Yes.
Goldeneye was the game that finally replaced Mario Kart 64 as our multiplayer game of choice back in the day.
Yeah, the save type was what was keeping my saves from persisting. Once I followed the instructions at https://vampier.net/N64 for the games database and ran the update script, it now seems to detect the save type correctly for each game and I am able to save/load as normal. Thanks again everyone for the assistance!
Confirmed that a few different games worked
Got back to perfect dark again tonight. Mission 4 is one that likes to crash. I had a couple crashes before it finally cooperated and I was about to complete it on agent
Be a tough one of perfect agent, gotta go fast
I thought mischief makers was working?
I believe it's tlb
It boots but crashes at start menu, at least it did last time I tried
No it's not sadly
Ah yeah, crashing at start menu 😦
For some reason it must not have been on the tlb game list I had looked at before loading games onto the card
Hi
Does anyone know what I need to do in order to convert a Majora's Mask .sav created by the MiSTer core to .fla that will work with my N64 flash cart and vice versa?
I tried just changing the file extension but the flash cart isn't seeing it
Just double checked, Mischief Makers is not on @orchid nimbus's website for TLB games
The spreadsheet has more tlb stuff that was discovered on it
I'm not really sure how to convert save files for this core, either. Is there anything pinned that I'm missing?
I took a look around for stuff that can convert saves between everdrive and mister but I didn't have much luck but I maybe wasn't looking hard enough
my list is not conclusive
Mph, I verified hash and patched PD but no joy. Tried running original rom first, then hack. Could it be the patcher I used?
Actually I've never been able to get Smash Remix running, either
I'm wanting to play through MM and it's really convenient to be able to do it on my MiSTer. I just worry that there will be a game breaking bug or something.. so before I put too much time in I'd like to make sure I can move my save to real hardware 🙂
What patcher do you use?
Flips
Someone I think it almost finished majora's Mask and I don't recall them saying they had any issues. I finished ocarina of time without any crashes too
So probably fine
My first thought is that using Flips was a rookie mistake 🤣
That's reassuring. Thanks
I patch with this https://hack64.net/tools/patcher.php or this https://www.marcrobledo.com/RomPatcher.js/
Don't know about flips
Nice, are you able to update the testing sheet?
peak zelda
Oh I meant ocarina
@chilly ember Cool, I'll give it a try
Oh yea, last time I checked the gamecube version wasn't on the list and I didn't wanna mark the N64 version completable
Ohhhhh ok no problem then 👍
Someone's gonna finish the N64 version eventually so I wasn't worried
I'm kinda surprised people haven't yet
I'm almost done with the game, no bugs
Damn, I patched PD and Smash Remix again but still nothin'. PD loads pixel puke and states "Auto-detect failed" then the image starts scrolling ad nauseum but nothing boots
you probably need to add an entry to your database file
I loaded the unpatched (TLB) rom prior to trying it, as well
ah, yeah, that would have fixed it then. Did you check if your patched rom booted on emulator before you copied it over?
I tried SM64 after playing lots of OoT and going from 20fps to 30fps feel like going from 30 to 60
Actually yes and it booted fine.
Shindou Wave Race gives same "auto-detect failed" msg but boots fine
did you ftp the file over? seems like every once in a while someone accidentally copies a file over in ascii mode instead of binary mode and that'll copy it wrong
Derp... I just thought of something
8MB memory wasn't on
AND IT WORKS lol
TY for the support I feel dumb now. But excited it is up and running 🙂
Yay! Yeaa I kinda forget about that because I always have expansion enabled 🙃
nice, glad it's working
Apparently the exp pack makes approx 3 games actually run better for those games where it is optional. Anybody know which ones?
I still love playing on crts. Those ones on wall are all daisy chained together. Mister arcade nights are great
Save some for the rest of us
If you are in Australia more than welcome to come play 😀
Yep. Cant really get them here. That's how you end up with so many..... multiformat bvm for 480p, widescreen for ps3 and wii u, 240p screens for all older stuff
I've accept I'm not ever gonna have a pvm at this point and just gonna have to live with my JVC D Series tv's, Panasonic Gaoo and a Trinitron
People catching on to the crt craze locally, so you don't see anything much anymore. People want 50 bucks for a shit set with rf only now lol
D series is good to look out for isn't it? Not crazy overpriced but good quality?
Awesome quality, arcade style tube and have component inputs
I got both my 27 inch D Series for free a couple years ago
Wow, nice.
Never seen one again lol
My Panasonic Gaoo only has s video, I love the chunky scan lines tho. Was my n64 crt for real hardware
I keep looking at your avatar and thinking you are an "insane fiend" lol
Yeah the pvm tax is massive now. Loewe 60hz scart sets still pop up from time to time. They are fantastic
I have a little samsung crt that has the cutout for scart and it makes me mad because it only has composite
Of course I live in Canada and scart isn't a thing here but it's just annoying to know the set was made for it :p
It sucks because people here either look up what they have and charge $xxxx for an RF unit OR they drop off trinitrons to the dump
Ouch, composite for you
I've actually opened up the Trinitron carefully, you might be able to get scart up and running rather easily
Yeaa maybe if I knew how to rgb mod or there was any information about this set online :p
I saw several there when I was dropping off my couch, I'd have hauled away a D series/PVM/trinitron if there were any. That's not even knowing if they worked. There were a bunch there
I had a 31" PVM I believe was a Mitsubishi that did 480P (I had my PC hooked up via a VGA > BNC breakout cable). I ended up getting rid of it when I got a 40" 1080P Samsung around 2006
Ouuuuchhhh
Still makes me sad to this day.
Oof.
I had a durabrand set with composite I played into xbox 360 days. Power button broke and I used a sharpie to turn it on
Not upset about not having that set anymore 🙃😜
A shame 😦 Australia were quite lucky in that regard. High end brands with RGB scart had a decent run. Loewe, B&O, Grundig all had sets that still show up on marketplace from time to time
I was like 12 with no money so I dealt with what I had
Have a 31" curved low hour JVC now (non-D series) with component that looks really nice. Bought it from a guy's personal collection that runs a "Save the CRT" facebook page. I regularly see him post very decent curved 27" with component around $25. Think he just wants to find them good homes and not end up in a dumpster. Would check on Facebook, I know there's multiple "Save the CRT" groups around, might help you find something
Granted this is in the US
Aren't GAOO pretty nice sets?
Just out of curiosity, did anyone else feel like Banjo Kazooie just didn’t do much for them back in the day? I feel like everyone universally praises it, but for some reason it just never interested me. Even after playing it a fair amount.
it’s ok, our faults is what makes us interesting and yours is not liking Banjo Kazooie
Mine is Quest 64
I think with many games, it’s how old you were and what your basis for comparison was
I can’t be mad. You made me laugh XD
What are Mitsubushi's line of professional CRT monitors called?
There are games I remember fondly, but we were poor and our supply was quite limited. Naturally, we loved what we had
lol I’m kidding, yeah it’s cool you didn’t like it
I think it’s just because of how much I played Mario 64 and how burned out I was on the formula of “collect mcguffins”.
Yeah can definitely see that
It's a good platformer
That didn’t hit me until DK64
Mitsubishi Megaview
@quaint rune your reaction game is on point 🤣
Yea, there are certain mechanics that are purely novelty based. Once it’s not new, the luster is gone
Banjo Kazooie is quite the collectathon too. Collecting music notes is pretty annoying.
The most annoying part about the notes is that it resets after leaving the level
Dying in rusty bucket bay after getting close to 100 😔
Did you play conkers bad fur day?
I did. For that one the pure novelty was the fact that it was M-rated.
Conker's bad fur is my favourite rareware platformer, it's not such a collectathon
I was a dumb 17 something when it came out.
I played it because it had a squirrel and I was 7 years old, loved it
DK 64 definitely took the collecting too far in my opinion. Yes you can finish the game without collecting everything, but the sheer volume of stuff to collect across all the characters feels overwhelming.
And yeah it was definitely less of a collect-a-thon.
I liked conker as a kid, didn't beat it though. By the time I beat it as an adult, I found the game pretty frustrating at times. Especially the later chapters.
Conkers bad fur day is probably one of my favourite games of all time and I finished it so many times as a kid. Still love it but that might be lots of nostalgia and knowing the frustrating parts like the back of my hand so it doesn't bother me
Completely agreed and the repetition is what killed it for me. Literally collecting the same shit across 5 different characters. I wish they split the collectibles across different characters so it at least felt like each one was doing its own thing.
see I have that for banjo lol I can hand wave all of the flaws at this point, they've smoothed over for me
though I will maintain that rusty bucket bay does suck still for getting all 100 notes, as does click clock wood
I usually just get all the notes first, and then do the jiggies after
The original Banjo-Kazooie is definitely my personal favorite of the Rare 3D collec-a-thon games. It struck the perfect balance of not being too much and nicely sized levels. Tooie's levels are too big, and DK64 I already mentioned my issues with. Conker is also really fun, but yeah it has its own issues.
Some of the worlds still just aren’t that fun to go through, but the Randomizer hack with the “Vanilla game but better” preset really improves it
I love Mario 64 but wow did Banjo feel like a generational leap forward. And only a year later!
It lets you switch Kongs with the d-pad and makes the totals more in depth, among some other things
I agree with that. BT and DK64 just never clicked as much with me
I 100%'d BT on the xbox version at the start of the pandemic, and it made me never want to play the game again lol
Banjo doesn't have backwards long jump glitch physics to the finish so I still love super mario 64 more
First time and only time I 100% banjo was the Xbox 360 version
Banjo tooie tho. Never finished it, got close. It's such a slog
if you go for all the cheat pages in tooie it's even worse
The Xbox versions are nice because they save the notes you've collected even when you exit a stage or die.
god those races with the bird lady suck
The 360 version is excellent, I wish some company would do that but for DK64 and put it on Switch
It’s not insane since they just did it for Goldeneye
they made 2 even
lol
Did Banjo Tooie come out for Xbox?
I was right up on that xbla Goldeneye hours after it dropped
Yep
Yea tooie was on xbox
Yes, both games have Xbox versions
came out for 360 not too long after banjo 1 did
Rare Replay has so much content.
Playable on One/Series too
Rare replay is the definitive way to play conkers bad fur day but idgaf
it also technically has hints for the jiggies on the pause menu
I want it on mister
which I didn't notice until I was about 80% through the game
WHAT
just the 360 version of tooie
Oh nvm z z Z
I asked the dev team why they chose to port over the N64 game instead of the Xbox version which would’ve been easier to do. They told me it’s because they felt the original game was better.
@quaint rune you probably already figured it out but, you should get the notes in the engine room before anything else in RBB, save yourself the heartbreak
It is better
Yup they’re right.
Agreed. The N64 Conker is better than the Xbox remake.
haha
I do like the Xbox remake though, I just assumed that’s what it was going to be so I was really happy to hear otherwise
I got the xbox version when I initially got my xbox, along with halo 2. Comparing the n64 and xbox versions, the xbox version of conker is really bizarre
like with those weird doll things you find everywhere
no idea what that was about
Yeah I learned the hard way and just ended up going there first after a few deaths. Isn’t the the only world where you can fall to death in a bottomless pit?
It's ok but like the weird van helsing costume change in xbox version for the zombie part. The vanilla model makes more sense story wise
yes, although Click Clock Wood has a lot of verticality too so you can die from falling there unless you do the glitch that prevents that
I things it’s because Super Mario 64 was the only N64 game I had for like a year or so. So I played it so many times. So when I rented Banjo Kazooie, I guess I was just tired of collecting. The next big game I got for N64 was Star Fox 64 and I played the hell out of that too since it was the only game I had for a long time too.
Yeah that stage was bonkers for that reason too. And I remember looking forever for the missing jingo, yellow one I’ll never forget standing in the dandelions. Almost like camouflage. Saving pvt jingo and wanting to kill him for making me look so long.
Click Clock Wood is one of my favorite levels ever in a video game. It's so much fun.
it's a neat idea, but it is pretty easy to die if you're trying to 100% it in one go
the notes getting saved in that level especially would really help
Rare and it's punishing deaths no checkpoint systems back in those days
The hardest jiggy for me is the turtle choir one. Like not writing anything down or recording and having to memorize all of them is hard sometimes.
Fungi Forrest is my favorite
Perfect dark is crazy with its put a turret right at the end of the level that isn't there in easier modes just to fuck your shit up and waste your time lol
The music is Fungi Forest is pretty iconic
They should use that mini game in ADHD trials
fuck it, I cheat 100% when playing it now lol just grab a paper and pen
It sort of reminds me of the banana bird crystals in dkc3. I’ll start off really good but near the end of the game I need to cheat.
I took pictures of the ocarina song notes with my phone for temple teleports instead of trying to memorize lol
What is everyone’s favorite N64 game btw?
Ocarina..
Conkers bad fur day
Mine is Mischief Makers.
playing around in PD. this is one i never got too into as a kid, renting it. i was always a bit snobbish about it and felt it was a step down after Goldeneye. (Goldeneye opens with Dam level, PD opens in a talking Hub world with nothing to do???). but poking around it now and playing it a bit more and ... this is a pretty fun Goldeneye Sequel hey :D
(still need convincing goldeneye isnt the better game tho)
Conker's bad fur day shouldn't exist as a firstish party title and I wish we lived in a world that conker got sequels
I asked the developer of that PD hack if it was PAL compatible
Rekt
i had old n64 magazines with promos for that original Conker platformer. was always bummed that never came out ahahaha
So now we know
Banjo Kazooie, Mario 64 are probably my favorite N64 games. It is definitely part childhood nostalgia and part I've just played them a million times
That's cool you got a response tho, with how long it has been since there's been an update
also fond of Pokemon Snap but, after you play it through a few times, there really isn't a whole lot left there. But I really liked the idea as a kid, sucks it took them so long to do anything else with that idea 🙃
You can always just play the GBC one and get an idea of what it was like.
Yea I had those too and I had conkers pocket tales on gameboy so I was surprised when I played conkers bad fur day as a kid thinking it was twelve tails
Tone wise anyways.
speaking of favourite games, i was surprised at the nostalgia kick i got from Diddy Kong Racing aha
i knew i liked it but god damn
it's just .. so happy 😭
I wish I could get into Diddy Kong racing but I never really played it and mario kart 64 is too much of a classic to me
Give me
source?
I was stupid. After I played Conkers Bad Fur Day, I traded my N64 to a friend for a Dreamcast VMU. (Waits to get banned for real)
I used to be a hater for DKR, I had it and MK64 as a kid. After revisiting them, DKR is a much better game. Just a hell of a lot more challenging
believe that was from one of the stamper brothers from Rare
prototype N64 without C-Left.. interesting 🤔
they also showed off Dream and 12 tails builds
and mechanical complexity
"dont mind me just casually playing through something thats been sought after by millions of people around the world for over 25 years"
I was always surprised by “Beetle Adventure Racing” too. That was a competent racing game too.
Can someone convince Tim Stamper to dump his carts?
I suggested someone just to convince them to borrow it for an hour
oh yep!!! i got that one cheap as an "ex-rental".. when blockbuster sell off their stock for like $5 or so. over in australia that game was HSV Adventure Racing with Holden instead of Beetle due to licensing, but i still loved it
Did you knooooow that Gobi the camel from Gobi’s valley in Banjo Kazooie. His gibberish speak is an actual camel sound. They make deep huffy sounds like that but you know what else does !? The imps from doom use the same exact sound as one of their dying sounds.
haha now that's some trivia
nintendo need to just put these roms out or greenlight people leaking them or something. it's been 30 years man
I kind of doubt tim is ever gonna share the roms but, I would hope he gets them dumped and preserved somewhere, maybe through like the VGHF or something
if he hasn't already
Where the heck did those Doom sound effects come from?

I guess if we can finally get a build of dinosaur planet, anything is possible
just leak it and say "woops mustve been part of that gigaleak or something iunno"
Looks almost exactly like my old WEGA XBR widescreen (which was a KV-34XBR910). Nice.
I was so hoping the gigaleak was gonna give us mother 3 n64, but alas, no
Yea but that's gameboy
Pokemon Picross and Tomato Adventure's Completed GBC version were highlights for me
a lot came from the gigaleak, i'd actually like a comprehensive list or something cos everything ive seen is normally people posting little snippets on twitter or youtube
some n64 source code and beta assets as well, if you recall all the luigi stuff
I've seen lots but like was there a solid thing like a dinosaur planet leak?
the gist is that it was bits and pieces that iQue had access to while working on their versions of the consoles
the zelda beta stuff was pretty big for me, there was a lot of stuff in there that'd been dying to see since i was a wee kid reading old n64 magazine
and seeing some of those art assets more clearly
the gb lot checks contained some unreleased games if i remember correctly
Seems like mostly beta elements and whatnot to me but it's felt like a long time since the leak
through finding references to the lot checks, there are definitely unreleased N64 games that were done and submitted as well. But that unfortunately was not part of the leak, I really hope someone gets a hold of that some time though
Sad
those lotcheck games especially, nintendo should do something with the ones that they have the rights to
they could definitely release Panel de Pon 64
That gets my deku nuts going
I get kinda mixed up on the ocarina stuff because I know a lot also came from that prototype dump where there jsut happened to be like half of the left over data from an early build of it
ohh was the prototype stuff not gigaleak?
my left nut
it was a seperate thing later
I want that so bad
woops all gigaleak! 😂
me too...especially since the only person with a known proto of panel de pon 64 refuses to release it, or at least has gone silent about it because everyone bugged them to release it
I took a gigaleak too the other day
I'm about to do a gigaleak now
did it smell like aspargus?
it was massive
he promised to do it right? yeah of course people are going to be upset
I've tried to look into it, people that do preservation stuff reached out, and he had interest, but they seemed to have just ghosted everyone on the subject, but I think they're still bombared by requests.
so it's probably a lost cause for now
reminds me, someone needs to leak the RE0 beta as well lol please. if we can get 1.5 we can get that beta too
If only it can be reverse engineered from the gamecube compilation
Mario 96
Hi Robert. Guten Morgen.
yes i have seen things like that also in smash bros. I don't look at them currently, for two reasons: the divot feature is not in. This was implemented by SGI only to fix AA artifacts. So possible it fixes it already. Also the RDP still had several bugs. Bugs in the RDP, especially at polygon borders, will lead to the coverage information being wrong, leading to AA behaving different.
Frühaufsteher
Wasn’t that Pokémon Puzzle League essentially?
it's simple math: if i start working at 6 am, i can stop working at 3 pm, leaving more time to fun work until 7 pm 🙂
Just don't burn yourself out
I had fun at work today. During lunch I added the Konami Code to a troubleshooting web app to access a stupid easter egg. The best part was my lead loved it and told me to leave it in XD.
6(am)3(pm)
(but the real truth is, the kids need to get up at 5:30 because of school)
Nintendo 53
same gameplay but, panel de pon 64 would have been a later release. If you look at the Japan only gamecube "Nintendo Puzzle Collection" the Panel De Pon game in there is what the 64 version would have been
yes, having fun at work really is the best. Unfortunatly it got worse for me when we lost half of the team and still have to do the same work. A lot of creative work is lost now for constant fire fighting
God I feel that. We had a lay off recently and I got stuck with a ton of O&M work and putting out fires. I finally got to do some modernization work this week, so it’s slowly getting better.
Are you the one creating fires with your impressive work that requires them to volunteer as firefighters?
similar stories at my work, also a cool "strongly encouraged to return to office" mandate that came down recently that is no doubt going to have the effect of shrinking the team even more
Some interesting garbled font rendering in vigilante8
isnt that just Hylian ?
lol
Translation filter hasn't been implemented
or qbertian
even the sky isn't correct. Some kind of texture loading probably
i did double check i hadn't just booted like the crylic rom or something 😄
oh yeah i never noticed the sky lol, that too
Windows 64
Ours just changed our PTO setup. Everyone is losing accumulated PTO at years end and starting at 0 in January. Ruined my vacation plans I already paid for.
I missed it too and I looked right at it lol
Well isn’t that just an F you
ouch, mercifully I don't think that's legal in my country
Sorry to hear
I probably deserve it for not liking Banjo Kazooie. Lol
I work for myself so it’s unlimited PTO. Except nobody pays you for it lol
That’s the dream for me one day.
It’s fun and it’s not. You kind of learn there is no perfect version of work 🤷🏻♂️ and my boss is an ass 😂 always demanding more and more. Only wants perfection. Never satisfied lol
I’m scared to do anything without a team. Like if my product breaks, it’s nice to have others to share the load.
I get that. I’ve always been more of the “if I want it done how I like it done…I’ll do it” personality. So I’ve always enjoyed just taking the burden of being in charge. Works 50% of the time…every time!
Well that not creepy at all haha
Ok well I’m done for the day. Got a full day of editing and shooting planned for tomorrow. See if I can get it all done
insert joke about taking loads here
there's a second part to that gif, but it's not family friendly imo
That’s still 50%. Quite a formidable scent.
Oh neat! Is that what you do?
Yeah I’ve been working in film for two decades now. Makes me feel old
Nice! I do that as a side gig. Always wanting to learn more. I write software.
https://youtu.be/4nVDp8kR-8s?si=nVkdzoSOIOHrAZQn
This is my proudest video achievement XD. (It’s a bait and switch)
Everyone keeps telling me to try Jimmy Johns, so I decided to finally give it a go. What's the worst that could happen?
Anyways, have a good night. Sorry to hold you up.
I’m heading for the night but DM me this link. I do want to watch it! And I’ll forget if it’s here
One issue I saw was the DK 64 rap had some noticeable polygon artifacting on the floor.not sure if that's on original hardware too.
Reminds me of anisotropic banding on PC
@chilly ember
SEGBA 64
Also I might be wrong, but does the ique version of Mario kart 64 support more ghost files?
hey I'm going to be 47 in a few days 😉
41 here
You’re old enough to be my father 🫵😮
49 soon big 50 :S
Everyone here is old 😜
Yeah, 33 and im feeling young here lol
or young 😛
35 is the last good year
there are good years?
Well to everyone’s credit. Everyone seems young. So if nobody said their age, I would be under the impression everyone is in their late 20s or early to mid 30s
be glad that these old farts are here to guide you young ones----- we lived throught generation 1 up till generation now
I'm a f-ing MSX expert... that dates me to atleast 1983
Thank you guys, I appreciate that allowed us to get such classics as superman 64 and Bubsy 3d
You had a English msx or are you Japanese?
Dutch MSX - Philips NMS8220 and later an NMS8255 and currently I have a Panasonic FA-A1FX
I'm also part of the openMSX team
and made the MiSter VHD 😛
I'm 39 and I got my first kid this year
Oh cool, everyone talks about it like it was a Japan only computer
I do a whole lot more - but that's about it
I'm more like the support guy like making support scripts / documenting / testing
that's what I like to do
same as what I do here lol
Do you play video games?
sure I do
How much RAM does an MSX have
16/64/128 and later 256/512
Have you finished a game in N64 core yet? If not. What game do you intend to?
OOT
I had a feeling
I never really finished that one
It's a good one
ultraHLE crashed on me
I’m doing master quest for the first time on the core. At the water temple now
I think the water temple is actually better on master quest so that won't be as bad
It’s not as hard as I thought it would be but I have gotten puzzle stumped a few times
I'm trying to finish this one
heh
heading to bed - else this old man is going to be even grumpier at work
laterz
You'll get there, I believe in you
I did notice you can get to the top water riser super easy in this version
It’s nice
I wouldn’t be surprised if someone made a flappy bird for 64
Master Quest's water temple got nerfed
flappy bird runs on my microwave
that's the one I'm playing
cursed
That looks so awesome. N64 Cube
Is that ai generated?
Ai art is so funky looking lol
reminds me of this thing
That and super fami tv were the inspiration to my ai generated prompt
There’s a Dreamcast one too
If the N64 model existed, I'd want one
I love this y2k design
AI image creation is like magic to me. I have no idea how it works. Almost no idea.
Supposed to be slippy
Slippy licked another frog, it seems
I tried to use a ai art generater to come up with design ideas for work but it could never make anything new. Just mixed things we already made. So it’s not taking my artist job yet. Not in design atleast
That looks a bit suggestive
Starfox 64
I think ai will be useful for prototyping, but it's a bit too random for more defined work

What’s Robert working on next? TLB?
He hasn’t said but I think he wants to fix up a bunch of stuff before TLB
He's not done with VI or RDP yet
He said adding TLB will make debugging other stuff a lot harder
3DO?
Was playing Perfect Dark. I was sitting on a game over screen, looking at my phone, when this popped up...
That's gonna be so cool when TLB is chonked in
And some glorious games begin working
There's that zx spectrum in Goldeneye, that sounds like endgame to me https://www.romhacking.net/hacks/911/
Robert could probably implement 3DO whilst waiting for toast to finish
Me first
Love that game. So much variety in the gameplay
Must have bumped the button. It's neat to look at!
That fps counter on perfect dark, I had a crash but it still worked on mister
It was odd
Soft lock
I played the first level on real hardware with the patch to compare performance. Core is like 8 fps higher most of the time
Is Buck Bumble any good
That's awesome
buck bumble isn't really much fun to play no
The 60% faster memory speed of the core really makes a difference in this game
awesome music though
I think it has control issues, I don't remember it controlling this shitty on real hardware but I haven't tested on real hardware yet to confirm
Wow, so the core may have a Turbo setting in the future
And yet, games like Body Harvest run Like a dog. So weird.
faster in some ways slower in others, pretty much what robert said earlier
just depends what the games workload is like
FPS people will complain tho if the FPS is not faithful
Yeah, Robert said there’s some task management that isn’t in the core yet. Makes the cpu stall a lot
So it depends on the game
I posted a perfect dark mission one video here with performance stuff enabled if anyone wants to see
We will get to a point like the psx core where he ties down the lines and makes more performance optional
yeah it needs to be feature complete first really
Excited for that. More performance in the 60fps Mario would be awesome
even mario at a solid 30fps would be pretty awesome
But stability and faithfulness comes first
Yeah, the extra performance will get put to good use on n64. More then psx I’d argue
What is the lowest FPS game
Is it something using the expansion pack
Lots of n64 games struggle to hit their fps targets
that motorbike game robert posted the other day runs under 10fps pretty often iirc
n64 games that hit a solid framerate are very rare
Very true
even the PD performance patched you can get the fps below 10
True
Very true
De-dithered and anti aliased intro to Ocarina of Time was so awesome to watch tonight. Must have sat through 20 loops of it with that calming music 😍
It looks so perfect now
I need to check out MM again, as the last time I looked it was very murky and kind of trippy
Also have not played OoT in any depth
I hear it’s pretty good
It's amazing. Just played through the first 2 hours of the game a few days ago and the changes in 48 hours are just nuts
Never played through mm, looking forward to it though
yeah now most of the VI is in everything suddenly looks super authentic
This journey though the n64s video pipeline has really made me appreciate the blur. Knowing what it’s doing makes it all make sense now
The AA fixes a ton of weird edges
yeah banjo-kazooie looks much cleaner now
a lot of stray rando pixels seem to of disappeared
Does Yoshi use a 32 bit framebuffer?
yes, it hides some of the 2-pass rendering bugs on polygon edges 😅 i should still fix them
Aren't there two separate types of blur that people usualky are referring to?
Heading to sleep now. Hoping to dream of those de-dithered skies and the lovely color cycling
G'night everyone, or day depending on where ya at 👋
heh, i noticed the ants in BK still have quite a lot of weird pixels on them
though it seems to depend how far away they are and at what angle
more legs = more edges = more stray pixels 🙂
yeah i figured it was something to do with how small the geometry is or something
i don't understand it fully yet, but it seems to happen in 2 pass rendering on left polygon edges only
sometimes the leg is less than 1px on screen so you're getting artifacts bigger than the leg
I've always loved being able to strip away the various effects and layers via emulation
All the way back to I think NeoRage on PC
I can barely see the 2 pass errors now. The alpha edge errors are still easy to spot though
Whenever you play a song you can see it on the song effect
wouldn't be surprised if that was the same root cause
Imagine when AI is able to develop homebrew games for retro consoles
Makes sense
i'm still searching for a good situation i can reproduce it with a savestate from the emulator
like: even if you take the savestate blind(because the emulator doesn't have the bug) it's sure to have it
still overall BK feels great to play on the core right now, i've been making my way through it casually having a blast
What kind of situation are you looking for Robert? Like you enter a room and the error loads?
best would be on a static title screen or so
or loading into a room, nothing moves and it's there
any chance its related to the weird strip of pixels on the left edge of resident evil ?
they seem wrapped around from the right edge of the screen
probably not
The oot title screen has the edge error but it’s not on screen right away. When you go over the hill to the forest entrance the trees show the coloured pixels thought the hill
couldn't you just make a savestate in BK in first person while you're looking at an ant ?
Right, the ant legs have it too
(c-up for first person view)
yes that could work
there's one right near the start of the game, before you enter the first level
I love that first-person view in BK
Is there a way to play the game like that
The ants are also the first thing that shows up on the demo
bk in general isn't that nice to debug, because it draws so much, you plow through a lot of other things
fpov might let you contrain that though ? you can probably get a screen full of almost nothing but ant
Would the ants hill room help?
currently my best case is still the pilotwings intro when the island is very small
it's not there in every frame, but very often and the screen is very empty
Also, the Doraemon games are weird
is this the same bug in the tunnel there ?
the sort of pentagon of white pixels
this is right at the start of OOT basically
Wonder if it's floating point rounding errors
could be the same, yes
it only appears when you're far enough away from it and at certain angles
Im not sure if we're talking about the same thing but I think I see stray pixels in the star field of Starfox 64 in the opening sequence - pretty much the first thing you see and almost nothing else on screen. I @ you last night with the repro - looks specifically to do with vi antialiasing. Not sure if thats what youre talking about here though.
maybe, maybe not. With all AA stuff, i would wait at least until divot is done
All I would say is that I wouldnt expect the AA to behave in that way BUT I am looking at it on a CRT so not sure what the underlying pixels are doing - might be obviously correct behaviour looking at it on an LCD.
I'm sure this was addressed, but has anyone else run into the problem in Banjo where the screen seems skinnier than before?
Or was the picture shifted?
yeah thats a little bug with the cropping or something - been reported before
anybody know's how to clean up a pull request by squashing? i'm not that good at git.
cant make a screenshot now but in Mario Party 2 when you get to the Screen where you choose CPUs and their Strength. I could swear that on that part the symbols now are surrounded by a blue pixel line and i think it wasnt like that a few builds ago.
There are some stray color pixels on the road of Destruction Derby, but mostly visible when driving.
The DK 64 character barrels transition has some noticeable image stretching
wow. i'm so used to playing n64 on emulators, i never realised how responsive it could feel
Right?
its either n64 on emulators, or original hardware with used worn out joysticks that add a physical latency to everything 😂
for the three games worthy of being played
banjo kazooie, banjo tooie and the yoshi game
No Goldeneye?!
Sin and Punishment and F-Zero X
Bassmasters 2000
Gex
Micro Machines
Mickey's Speedway USA is so pretty for being a N64 game
Look great loved core
Can't work out why Mario 64 won't save for me. I got the MD5 for the patched version and added it to the database file like this
8e07d05a597ed07cc2ae5491b0848d88 ntsc|cic6102|eeprom4 # Super Mario 64 (USA) (LodgeNet) (patched)
But on boot the system settings are all default
Newest unstable mister?
With the latest unstable main + database you shouldn’t need to muck about with hashes anymore
does lodgenet even have save
sure is
Yeah just watching the video that shot is from right now lol
Good enough that people bought these before there were any analogue stick replacements
Did Nintendo manufacture these for them?
No place for a pak to go which is a shame too
I managed to save on SM64 Lodgenet so it must be something wrong with your configuration
I think Hori made them
I think the same bug (wireframe lines) is seen on shadows in Bio F.R.E.A.K.S. Easy to reproduce I think. Just select a character and load any arena.
There was some images of the ram carts on Reddit and those were actually made by Nintendo for lodgenet. I was surprised they did that.
That's not an SNES controller that's the built in controller on Boeing 777 Aircraft
Some psycho chopping up both that and a regular pad to get it working with a normal n64: https://youtu.be/vH1tthMz_YI?si=pcNxoRXt1mD9SMAm
Here's a short video on using an old N64 controller PCB to allow a Lodgenet controller to work on a home console. The joystick is more durable and lighter to move than the original design.
Very interesting setup. During the 00s I tried looking at auction catalogs for liquidation of hotels for this stuff and never saw it up for sale. They had a tight grip on the equipment.
Except the controllera
I wonder if the GameCube lodgenet was a NPDP unit running it
what?
i did that mod
love the lodgenet controller
best n64 controller by far I had for a long time
but I did it before all the modern replacement things existed
I was close, its a 747 option. Very curious why all of them look so similar
the stick is so nice
I did it back when you could buy lodgenet v2 controllers for $15 on eBay though
now they're like 5-6 times that
it's like the only n64 controller I've used for years
I did kitsch bent stick replacements that feel like perfect too
but I got tired of having to do that
lodgenet been perfect for me
they can't be that rare... It was in over half a million hotel rooms.
the controllers used to be really common
on eBay and stuff
that's why people did the mod
idk what happened but everything rising in price in the last few years
Everything is rising in price these last few years
still a bargain at twice the price tbh
GoldenEye 007 sure looks fine on MiSTer
i like to think there's a guy at terrasic adjusting the price based on the cores available 😄
did you shop that yourself?
He actually made that face when he found out he was being replaced as Bond.
This was the face
That was right before they said "Mr. Brosnan, you need to calm down. It's not the end of the world. You'll have plenty of great acting jobs after this."
absurdist memes, I can dig it
It's the face he made on the box art
This is what DK looks like if you shave him
Do y’all sometimes stay up at night thinking about why the Nintendo 64 is the greatest 32-bit system of all time?
No need. Like a pious man doesn't need to stay up pondering why God is great, I don't need to question the greatness of the Nintendo 64 and it's place high above all other systems of the era, as the one true 32 bit console.
#dothemath
someone has to
So what's next in dev? Just finishing up the remaining VI stuff?
Here's my guess:
Divot
32 Bit Framebuffer fixes (Starcraft, Probably Yoshi's story)
Noise dither
2 Pass Fix for stray pixels
Transparency fix
Async Video Out
YUV
i think current VI still being fixed up and looked at possibly too
Oh yeah and the last couple of VI fixes
And the Bust a move fix
omg FIFA 98 is definitely one where i'm appreciating the De-dither toggle. that is a good example of vaseline in full effect
How did someone who is so bad at spelling become a mod? It’s spelled SEGA SATURN
Here’s my guess on what Robert is working on next:
- Divot
- 32 Bit Framebuffer fixes (StarCraft, Probably Yoshi’s Story)
- @cerulean elk’s mom
- Noise dither
- 2 Pass Fix for stray pixels
- Transparency fix
- Async Video Out
- YUV
I think one of those is much more challenging for the rest
Only time he’s gonna disappoint someone for getting the job done early 😂
lmao this sucks, why you gotta out joke me on an insult
@zinc dew makes love like Robert makes cores; promises it’s gonna be a long, drawn out process filled with fun…ends up finishing super early
(You started this! 😂)
LOL I yield
Good morning
Mornin'
Is it known what causes the stray triangle to pop up during the intro to Ocarina, when it zooms into the forest tunnel?
That's the only issue I could spot in 2+ hours of playing
probably the same reason why some games have flickering text characters...for some reason some polygon commands seem to go missing
I sometimes see a polygon not getting rendered here and there for like just one frame.
as it's mostly the text, i assume it's maybe the last polygons before framebuffer switch? but completly unsure
Do you know what causes the Font in Diddy Kong to flicker?
no, this is what my comment was about 🙂
Is it hardware features that get added/improved that yield improvements in various games? Or something else?
remember, any bugs you see in the core are reflections of your inner turmoil. Robert has judged you.
The path to TLB is only found through inner peace.
play THPS3 and you'll realize you have failed him
i'm really curious whats wrong with that game, every texture is like a bad acid trip and all the fonts are just like, wide rectangles lol
took the same drugs Yoshi did
Each build changes the text to a different eldritch font
Radical
looks fine to me
And it's not like those textures stay static like that either
yeah no it constantly changing
Test sheet argument for "completable" being a separate checkbox to the errors. I beat game, sure, but now I can't look straight anymore.
Anyone playing Yoshi for more than a few seconds has more constitution than me!

I did get all the Masks (save FD), I still gotta beat the moon.
ok ok, i don't really care for 2D but i gave it a look: the issue with yoshi is that it's loading the background as 8bit texture. Probably makes sense as it looks like a NES game anyway 😛 Could fix it in my emulator by hacking in a 8bit framebuffer mode, something that should be forbidden on such a precious modern console
8 bit framebuffer? Huh
NES game? Excuuuuse me mister Peip!
I'm choosing to ignore the comments and focus on the actions. 😉
better don't ask. looking at angrylion, the 8bit framebuffer mode has way more code for the edge cases than for the normal handling
Oh yeah, now looking it up, I think the Fog that's not working is Depth Buffer based fog?
fog?
There was broken fog I recall sometimes, and looking for info on Yoshi I stumbled by it (In another game)
can you not like stuff it through a 16bit mode and just pad the upper bits or something
NES can only do like 16 background colors at once (4 palette entries, 4 colors each). Not 256... 😢
