#Nintendo 64

😂
it's official
do you know how many forum posts out there where people get nasty every time someone brought up the possibility that someone would try to tackle an n64 core? lol
i was doing this last week out of curousity/boredom lol
searching redddit posts on this very topic
n64 is never coming sorry
That’s weird, why did people act that way?
can't tell you bro. every few months i would randomly search what new cores were being developed and it was a really consistent trend i noticed
i think it's just reactionary coz the questoins would normally come from people who don't have a mister and that line of thinking about "can it do x?" as opposed to looking at what it can do annoys people LOL
Because they enjoy it
I put up a community post on YT today…about my normal life…not gaming life. Three held comments already from people saying one form or another “I’m glad she died”…so yeahhhhhhh
there was a thread on the reddit just today about the cost of mister and i posted what i paid in 2019 and had people argueing with me "no you didnt" 🤷♂️
Lol people suck. Final conclusion. Submit it to the journals
Specially considering the state of N64 software emulation to this day
can u block people on youtube? would be sick to just say like "ok, bye. ure banned from watching my videos with comments like that" LOL
Haha I can ban commenters
I do all the time
People like feeling superior to others by correcting them. Good thing the “smart” people were proven wrong this time. Although I would never have entertained the possibility of an N64 core myself
yeah i didnt think it was possible
not that i know anything, but i just was trying to set expectations for myself hehe
People tell me all the time in videos the 3DO M2 never existed and there are no games. When I am showing the hardware and playing games in the videos 🤣
no you're not
LOL
I always thought I'd be stuck using real hardware for the foreseeable future. Software emulation just wasn't a very good alternative
you definitely need a thick skin for putting content up like that on youtube
I guess it's improving now but it's still not quite there for me. Too many timing errors, some games still run too fast etc
the comments must be maddening but maybe u can get used to it and learn to laugh at it
I love my original hw tho. And still prefer it generally when I have it and I can get clean video
Me too but honestly, the maintenance gets annoying. I had to replace some caps on mine, and it worked fine for a year but now it's freezing again. Probably some other caps failing.
It’s all CGI 🤣
Get this man a CRT 😉
Tech nerds can often be a bit elitist unfortunately. I always figured someone would tackle N64 eventually even if it wasn't viable fully
I saw that post. Raising a glass to her tonight, dude. Thank you for all you do.
On your psu or on your console? I did a full recap with my N64Digital install
My psu was being annoying yesterday. Random reboots. Adding some tape to the outside casing of the power supply did the trick
If I'm correct it could be the capacitors or reflowing the RCP
Recorded my first video with the N64 core. MK64 with a CRT cam to show the dual 1440p/analog output already possible on the core. My first time trying it on CRT and it worked flawlessly 🤩
@stuck summit You can with hot air from a good distance only in the RCP (I recommend protecting the other components), Only if the recap doesn't work
My symptoms are sometimes the system reboots after 10 mins of intense gameplay. I think it was the power supply but not sure.
Being loose in there
This was after recap tho
Honestly, it's very rare to see a PSU fail, one of the best PSUs , i have two that has 25 years old or more, and to date, no problems.
I think it’s not the psu failing it’s the contacts not connecting and being loose
People talked about putting some tape or card stock on the outside where it fits in and that’s mostly worked for me
Capacitor contacts?
No the connection between the psu and the system
I understand, I would open it and give it a thorough cleaning with isopropyl alcohol.
wave race so good. I like it with Mega AGS filter
Used contact cleaner and Deoxit on it too
Strange, maybe it's good to look or secure a replacement PSU
starcraft 64 seems to be running well. Sans some gfx glitches in some of the opening menus. I was wrong and figured it would be one of the hardest to run.
How do you save in OOT? The one guy says to press start and then B, but when I do that nothing happens.
he is correct. find out what button is bound to B key.
I have it bound to Square on my controller.
you might be confused by using the gamecube version as it shows different colors.
I'm using the lodgenet version.
Zelink having trouble with Lezelda 🥁🎶
But yeah I dunno anything about lodgenet stuff ☹️ a different adult will have to chime in on that one.
did they save to the memory card? so that you could take it from hotel to hotel?
Happy to do it. It’s always a fun time 🙂
Lodgenet is the only rom I can get to work. The other roms just show a little yellow line at the top left.
That's gotta be your issue. Check your archives for a gamecube version.
pretty sure there is no saving in the lodgenet version
GC version works fine for me - just annoying the buttons are mislabeled for an N64 controller
someone posted something about a hack that reverts those changes. I need to go look for that
What are the best hacks out there? I have smash remix and Mario kart amped up
At this point, they should probably update that info already.
they might think they are villains of the comments.. but the real villain is the one who made you interrupt your "reply to every comment" chain!
you may have it already if you have a hacks folder, or can look here https://krikzz.com/forum/index.php?topic=5161.0
Haha I never mind the comments. Just from broken people
actually.. would the one who breaks the chain of replying to every comment be the villain or the hero
I'm guessing Pokémon Stadium 2 doesn't support saving yet?
Mario odyssey 64
Thanks, GC version works.
Also sm64 split screen coop
I have a version with midair jumping, infinite health and lives for both players
Dm if anyone wants it
I got in Kaze's only up 64, but it was extremely glitchy. Not a pleasant experience, but I never saw it boot before.
Lots of flickering I don't recommend trying it. Plus it made the osd go crazy, it wouldn't stop saving I had to hard reset.
I've been testing that with the last few builds and never got it to work. Neat to see it runs
I had to backward somersault my way out of the starting zone because it crashes after a few steps. The camera goes nuts, but after a while you can control mario without instantly crashing the game.
i got gc oot to work but some of the character faces (not all, more generic npc faces) are pretty corrupted. other people getting this too ?
Party eyes?
cool not just me. was wanting to make sure coz was jumping around a few oot variations
thx
no problem
Lol some tracks in cruisn exotica look like they are floating in the sky
The music in this series certainly is something else as well , reminds me of the Sonic R soundtrack
yeah I posted 2 pics of her before 😄 lol
epic
I wonder what causes this
w00t! Brawler 64 NSO edition pairs with my Mayflash Magic-S in Switch Pro mode just fine.
Awww man if anyone is looking for something to play just boot up cruisn exotica
yeah but no scenery!
Yeah I saw, its a haunting stare! I think it's top three in terms of creepy stuff this core has produced during development.
How do you update the mister file for the stick fix while its running? Been a while since I tinkered
Someone found some molly in the woods. Must be a lab somewhere 🤣
I really dig the floating tracks
Reminds me of rainbow road
yah true
Which game we talking?
Zelda Spirit Tracks
That’s the one where he drives an 18 wheeler and it was made by Sega right?
I thought having Star Soldier Vanishing Earth playable would satisfy me.
wanna try mario 64 b3313 but the mario face
bayken, add Smash Remix to your next video :D
Cruisn exotica
It was in yesterdays
How much Remix do you need? 🤣
Oh, I must have not noticed haha I just found out it existed today
That bad?
This is my sleep paralysis demon.
kinda makes smash 64 feel a bit like melee
it's not bad at all, in fact it's the game I always assumed it was. it's the fact that I now wonder if there are other 3D shmups on the 64.
BUSTED kannibal hasn't been thoroughly watching the update videos
Mine is an oil covered Gordon’s fisherman (seriously)
And he has a hook in his hand 😬
I mostly watch the VGE videos to see if any of my favorite games are running now.
😆
specially Saturn updates
He hasn’t shown up since I was on vacation in Peru in 2019 though so maybe he’s gone
Thursday for Saturn
B A S E D 😎
Magic Knight Rayearth time!
I can’t even remember what I put in lol and I only made it last week
i tried to beat that, but the game beat me in only the beginning
so much dialog. too much dialog
Your brain has been fried by all the core updates lately.
i was on a voice chat with a buddy at the time wondering if it worked, and it kind of degraded to me mashing the button saying "shut up you tiny kids. please just let me hit something"
... it never did
Is it you who loves Incredible Crisis?
Nah, I'm a Dragon Force and Magic Knight Rayearth guy.
🌮 and I form the Dragon Force alliance!
Ok then. Someone’s been asking for it for forever and it’s tomorrow
But holy shit “what why” has been a LOSING series lol
Nooo! It's been fantastic!
I need my Pepsi Man episode still!
I think so too. But the views disagree lol. Too niche. But that won’t stop me
Maybe. We will see
Dang it Youtube viewers. Get with the program and watch weird!
YT just will not push my stranger content
Youtube just doesn't understand the majesty that is Mister Mosquito.
Haha just how it is. A MiSTer vid can do 1K views in an hour where a MiSTer mosquito takes a day
Sorry, I'm at work. But that's what I meant. Cache Latency. Try setting it to 10. Your mileage may vary.
At the rate that things are advancing when does everyone predict that the n64 core will be on the update all script?
when he says it's done
I feel like I've gotta be missing something simple here 🤔 I've been trying to get this to work for a while, and can't seem to get anything besides a black screen and controller mappings when booting into the N64 core. I've manually copied the files over from the site, I've tried using the update_n64 script a few times, and I've tried a few different boot.rom files. But no matter what I do, I get a black screen after selecting the N64 core.
Any ideas on what I'm doing wrong?
To me at this rate I wouldn't be surprised if it's before christmas
Does Mario Kart work?
Try any of the unstable MiSTer main files since 20230818 yet from #unstable-nightlies?
It won't even load up a list of games after selecting the core. I've got the N64-Database.txt file in /games/N64 directory too.
Yup! I'm using the one from today
Are the game zipped?
No, all .z64 files
And you can bring up the core OSD OK?
Yeah, that's what's weirding me out. I attached a video that shows exactly what I'm seeing from boot to selecting the core and getting nothing
could it be an ini setting? i vaguely recall pal roms and vsync adjust 2 was causing issues for someone
I'm willing to try whatever! Could def be an ini thing
I would make sure you have the the correct.pif files renamed boot.rom and boot1.rom in the N64 folder, you can find them using the FAQ
I haven't tried the ones from the FAQ yet! I'll give those a shot
Check the hash against the one listed on vampier's FAQ.
Make sure you haven't run update script or update all after you have run the N64 updater as well, as that will revert you back to stable Main
How do you generate a ROM patch file?
I've got the modified rom and the original rom. I assume there is a diff util or something
Oh as in, I've modified the rom myself, and want to produce an IPS
Many rom patching software will let you create patches
https://vampier.net/N64/ The ROM patcher linked here has a "creator mode" IIRC
Thanks, I'll look around, I'd only used the JS based one.
Thanks!
Oh, dang... I was way off 😆
Okay, I missed that. Pretty dang cool!
Patch is here, this one uses SRAM for save instead of EEPROM, so change your settings appropriately.
See above
is this merely a tool that we are using as a "band aid", and eventually the core will be so mature that it will not be needed?
Not sure yet
No, this will be like how the Neo Geo core works, but the .txt file will be added to Main
That is my understanding anyway
What would the benefit of this?
So far it doesn't seem to crash. The SRAM thing was me playing, but I don't know if its helpful or not 😛
ah, cool ty for sharing
It's just gonna suck for patches down the road
I found the original patch that was posted and saving seems to be working fine.
How does everdrive handle it?
Awesome! Which one was that? No crashes too?
I wonder what is special about the n64 that it requires this text file, say, versus the ps1
Its possible that the cartridge features were determined via another chip / electrical property on the cart, rather than the ROM itself.
Thats my speculation though.
@amber saffron #1096015979055697940 message
The CIC chip on the cartridge talks to the console and writes to ram. The software checks that part of ram to work. The CIC information is not part of the roms. So the database is need.
I see, thanks
Could have the core default to a particular CIC type if it's a custom/patched ROM... that is, if most custom/patched ROMs expect a particular CIC.
I wonder how Kaze's SM64 rom hacks even run on the core!
Usually he uses certain trick hacks that usually works only on software-based emulation.
Unless he has lately being making his hacks OG hardware-compatible.
well, I loaded up a patched super mario 64 rom, and it said "no database entry" or something, and yet it still worked...
so I dunno
I guess it will just default to some setting if it's not found
Whatever it was last
makes sense
A workaround that works already- for example with an SM64 hack. Boot vanilla SM64 then boot the hack.
this has probably been explained elsewhere, but does anyone know how software emulators avoid the need for a database file? Do they?
Yeah, maybe the core already does that. I know I've changed the CIC value, saved settings after making changes elsewhere, and it chose that one on next core boot.
I believe its to identify the different CIC chips per game mainly. Also to know how to handle different save types
Was it this recent release where games ran much better. I swear the version released before had way more slowdown.
Hmm, that doesn't seem to have worked. I'm getting the same thing. I've double-checked the SHA1s of my boot.rom and boot1.rom, and they match what's on the FAQ
Also which Paks are supported/expected per game.
It feels like full speed now, or really close to it.
I did notice when I was playing SM64, that saving wasn't working
The default core setting of CIC 6102 is what most games used.
I am mostly sure N64 software emulators have databases
The addition of the CPU cache helped tremendously with speed increases in-game.
Is that how Doom also works with its mods?
Maybe give the MiSTer a reboot, maybe something weird happened.
I guess that's the answer to my question, just try some sensible defaults
Yeah the default save type of the core is set to none. Needs to be EEPROM4.
awesome, I'm learning so much, thanks everyone
Most homebrew and most (not all) hacks do not have copy protection/anti privacy
I also learned all this thanks to the core lol
Thanks to Robert's willingness to patiently explain all of this as he learns it.
yeah, he truly rules
Ah. Got it.
Oh yeah definitely. If you want a cheat sheet as to what’s playable check out the pins
Yeah, I've rebooted a couple times. Sadly, still nothing. I appreciate you trying to help out!
already on it 🙂
Pluggin' your pins again, I see. 😉
Spreadsheet gives the full info, tells you what’s bootable
(as well you should) 😛
yeah, the usual support team are doing their thing, and it's great, even better than with the PS1
this place rulez
oh btw @worn delta grats on your moddination 🎉
well deserved
PS1 didn't have Robby back then.
Actually, maybe check your ROM file sizes. And make sure if you are copying them over using an FTP client like FileZilla you have it set to binary not ASCII, that seems to have caught people out who wound up with 0byte files
Ah so if I'm understanding things correctly everdrive uses 'ultracic III' which is a universal CIC? https://github.com/ManCloud/UltraCIC-III
Ohhhh that’s neat
Well that's pretty cool...
Thanks mate 🙂
I've just been copying them over via USB with the MicroSD. My ROM file sizes look normal, SM64 is 8.4MB. OoT is 33.6MB. Nothing that's 0bytes. My games are all from the no-intro archive, just unzipped into .z64 files and copy/pasted into /games/N64/
Also, if an entry isn't found, and a game was loaded prior that had an entry it will just use that.
That's a big patch
...64
lmao
Love the report for ECW hardcore revolution in the sheet. Not just pixel garbage, but HIGH-RES pixel garbage. 🤣
Who sorted the Spreadsheet
Not sure. I hesitated before doing that, wondering if it would be just for me or not. Turns out my theory was correct.
The CIC code written ram when the core is freshly load is the one used by Mario Kart and Super Mario 64 (and several others)
It actually doesn't look too bad this way. It's nice to see the "No boot" section all groups together.
And it's still alphabetical.
Yeah, it's a shared Spreadsheet, every change is reflected for everyone else.
Yoshi’s Story looks great until gameplay
Does the maintainer have access to a log, or something?
There's a version history. I can see who did it, but there's a lot of edits after the change. If I were to revert it before that version, that's lots of lost data.
Like I said, it looks more organized now. Will it keep sorting when status is changed? I'm guessing not.
I had to deal with people resorting a sheet back when I had to deal with Google Sheets at work
Just for the record. I know it sounds like it was me, but it wasn't... 😆
The only suggestion I can offer is: if you can get the sheet back into the original order, add an ID column and just assign starting from 1
When someone sorts the sheet, resort it by that ID column
They were just alphabetical before, just resort it?
If it's just alphabetical order then yeah, basically that
I'm wondering if someone didn't fully realize the scope of their change.
Oh actually, I wish I knew about this
Basically: add a hidden column that's all empty and restrict the permission. When a person goes to sort it, it forces them into a local filter instead of a global sort for all users
I'm unsure how to sort multiple rows, if someone knows and would like to try to revert it, go for it.
I don't want to mismatch the rows/columns.
Welp... imma run through it and remove all the trailing Es. I thought I heard someoneention it would be better for data.
Alright. Imma try it. Wish me luck...
Think I've got it, basically select the range of data, then Data > Sort Range
If you start the selection in column A I believe it'll have you use that as the "key"
Looks good, thanks!
As a heads-up
I think it's sorted. Just long pressed the column on mobile, and sorted a-z. The rest went with it
Don't start at A1 (the header)
The header on the USA sheet went down to row 83
Or if you do select all of them for the range, there's uhh
Click the advanced option instead of one of the two
Then click "Data has header row", and it should say "Sort by Game"
Reverted. I'm at work 😆
Good to know.
Should be sorted now with the header
Just saying I have limited time to dick with it in one chunk
I tried. When it went pear shaped I threw my hands up 🤣
I'm on an iPad so it's a bit of a pain to deal with, on my end, otherwise I'd resort all these
Oh wow this is really neat, thank you
oh my god they've all been sorted like that?
Yeahhhh, at least from what I can see
Dude, I'm on freaking android.
"freaking night shift. Screwing up the databases.."
But yeah, I think if we shove a column somewhere in the middle of the sheet e.g. between game title and status, then permissions set to prevent anything in that column from being modified, I think that'll force any sorting to be as a temp filter on the user's end
Alright, the affected sheets have been reverted back to alphabetical.
I see the vampier script updates the unstable main, will that nuke the joystick fix if I run it next update?
Nighttime chat, I'm here to say episode one racer is excellent
Nighttime chat. I’m going to bed
it's like noon thirty, I need to eat some lunch
Must be nice living clear across the globe...
actually, yes
Brawler 64 NSO Bluetooth controller + Mayflash MAGIC-S Ultimate pairs and works, but analog stick's range is huge (-127 to 127 along each axis) according to the tester ROM. Feels okay in Mario 64 but feels overly sensitive in Hexen. Would the pinned message about a custom Linux image/driver for NSO apply to my situation, given that the Mayflash (rather than normal Bluetooth) is what's handling all the wireless connectivity? Any other way to adjust the analog stick sensitivity?
nah, so you want @lone geyser 's custom MiSTer main build that can clamp the range for any controller
Does that also contain all the latest commits from MiSTer unstable?
Clamping the range won't change sensitivity though, right? Just caps the min/max values?
no, it should fix the sensitivity, it's not just a simple clamp, but rather yeah a range shrink
also yeah it has whatever commits from when they built it lol - the version in the pinned post should be somewhat recent
It does both
Where can I find the code diff? I can build it against HEAD of Main_MiSTer myself.
Scales to 96 and clamps to the line given by x=85-y/4 in the wedge in the first quadrant nearest to the x axis
Thanks! I'll give it a go.
"Aw sheeit. Here we go again..."
also yeah re the Linux driver for NSO - it does apply to the Brawler in BT mode, but it's totally broken, something about how the controller tries to report itself is different to first party controllers. Pretty much every third party controller actually is broken under the hid-nintendo driver unfortunately
so yeah definitely stick to your mayflash thing for now
Grabbed this today but wondering what is a good adapter to use with MiSTer?
n64 snax is in development
that or it's snac i don't remember off the top of my head
Until that comes you can probably just find some cheap adaptor
As a sort of hold-over
Timville just posted about their sweet new multi adaptor which also does N64, if you're interested: #controllers message
@hearty oar yea I saw. Wondering about latency
willing to bet it is excellent, but yeah no data unfortunately
there is also the Reflex-adapt from MisterAddons, but that is currently out of stock afaik
the latency is still gonna be less than what you'd have playing it on an emulator + xbox controller + pc + LCD screen
which is really the worst way to play it as far as response time goes
you can also try the Raphnet adaptor, which also has a DIY version apparently
so yeah, a few options out there
@hearty oar yea I actually considered the Reflex
85-abs(y/4)
That makes it correct for 2 wedges but still leaves 6, haha
Have you thought about keeping track of the biggest radius given by the joystick and normalizing that to 96?
Like having an initial max set to like 48 or something.
That binary does something similar, actually but it's just a binary threshold at 110
That would allow scaling of pretty much any joystick, regardless of restrictor and range.
It would also add some float point operations but that's not the biggest deal
I'm taking advantage of the fact that 127 - (127 >> 2) = 96
duke nukem 64 works well now, the sprites visible behind walls is fixed
Yes, that's how you do 0.75×something with integers
You could do outX = (x << 7) / maxRadius or something. No floating point necessary
Or rather (x << 7 - x << 5) / max
I don't think floating point is that taxing, anyways. It's not a 6502 we're talking about here.
the fpu on the arm is probably more idle than the alu anyway
my development methods for ps1 and n64 are mostly similar. I looked more in the n64 core for logic usage and tried to keep it small, but that's about it. However, there are plenty of things i wish i had done different for other cores, e.g. GBA, but it's to late now. Maybe some day i tackle it again.
please, no! I understand that many of you like them, but i just don't want to play on any.
I have a CRT--a small cheap one from my childhood--most of the appeal of the actual picture is drowned out by the incessant ringing. Perhaps that's just because it was cheap?
So--I prefer HDMI. There are a lot of perks choosing to forgo a CRT.
I truly don't want to bug you about it--and I only bring it up since you mention GBA--but if you do ever decide to go back to the GBA, would you consider implementing Link-Cable/Transfer-Cable SNAC support to bring it to parity with the Gameboy core?
I'd be half tempted to ship you a Gamecube and link cable for testing/debugging.
No worries either way, of course.
i played n64 on a ~50cm CRT and i don't want to complain about it. I was lucky as teenager i had my own TV. Still, i was barely able to read text on it if it was smaller, because it was so blurry. I don't want to get back to that
The problem with that is i'm no expert for anything external to the FPGA and it brings no fun for me, just pain. Redoing GBA however would make it much easier to implement such a feature and some one could pick it up better
That's more than fair. I was just curious. Regardless--I'm far far more excited about this core than I could ever be for link cable capabilities. I just finished another session of Mario Kart 64.
You lose the ability to hear that sound as you get older
Something to look forward to then!
Good stuff right here. I just like optimization, haha. I've tried to avoid float point operations out of a naive assumption that they're more difficult/expensive to implement in FPGA, which I think is the most likely place for the code in the end
I think my hearing drops of at 12K hz now
I used to hear the sweet rining/high pitch of the CRT when I was young
then metal happened and walkmans
it depends on the type of noise, my old consumer TV that has never been serviced in 25+ years has nice high pitched squeal
my PVM that has had some key caps replaced is more of a low hum
haha, maybe my TV was always like that, I've probably just forgotten
I have a CRT in my play area but I only use it for light gun games
I fire mine up once a while to have nostalgic memories
Thanks @lone geyser -- your changes work great for me. But now I'm able to notice more easily how bad the input lag is in Hexen. Seems to be unique to that game. Weird.
when i first got my 2nd hand CRT couple years back, i was instantly noticing the ring and having disgusted thoughts about myself for buying into something so silly and horrible... got used to it within a week or so LOL
How am i ever going to get used to this??? Wait, it's gone never mind.
I have a constant rining in my ears anyway
Tinutus and hyperacusis combined - it's a lot of fun walking outdoors during spring/summer
i put a small cotton ball in my right ear
i get the occassional ringing that lasts like ~10 seconds. i always figured that was something different than what people refer to as tinitus but quick google says its tinitus 🤷♂️ heh
For me, the beauty of CRTs is purely from a technical standpoint. It fascinates me in the way old trains and pinball table mechanisms all work together
does that involve using them and looking at them?
i love cranking the brightnes super high and playing SMB1 for example, or any fast paced game against a black backdrop. like in SMB1 underground levels when the light ghosting is really noticable. it's soooo pleasing on the eyes 😍
Both. Physical parts moving around is neat
I swear I remember hearing about a potential almost eink like television format that allows for pixels to be an arbitrary size, that would be neat
twss
i definitely love CRT's for all the CRT-y flaws and unique qualities. and just on an earlier comment on text being illegible or blurry. using RGB or SCART kinda inputs on a Trinitron or nicely maintained good quality CRT is definitely like.. completely different experience with what i grew up with.
Honesty for as much as people harp on about scanlines and shadowmasks, my recent jvc with component in was very subtle with either effects
I think it's why I prefer scanline filters that only exist when you look long enough
it's the motion clarity for me, the closest we can get to that with current sample and hold displays is BFI and there are obviously issues with brightness that you need to then work around
also yeah totally agree, on my 800tvl PVM the scanlines are surprisingly subtle and just fade away when you are playing
i had concerns that like, getting a really nice CRT with nice inputs might bypass some of the effects i was wanting to get or it might be "too clean and pristine" but nope. nice CRTs are very nice 😅
My next TV will likely be an oled for convenience, and those get pretty close, but there's small things about CRTs that don't get mentioned much. Like how images that fade to and form black also have the image shrink or grow as well
yeah
all this talk of CRTS and how much i love them. one of the 2 i got is currently out of service and it's too big for me to bother getting repaired atm
it's obviously good and bad haha
Also, I feel like I'm crazy saying this, but with component in on the CRT, that genesis filter that mimics a weaker signal had the shimmer effect work while also looking cleaner than the hdmi output
ohh i need to look at that
theres a really bad game on genesis.. TaleSpin.. but i have nostalgia for it LOL
and the see through water effect on just level 1 in that game is brutal. it's worth booting and looking at just to see how bad it looks raw via hdmi
I don't mind using composhite output for some 8- and 16-bit consoles
With a CRT, of course
It's still nice that light guns and 3D glasses "just work"
Heck, I'll even use RF for classics like the OG Famicom and the SG-1000
Not really a fan of making destructive mods to HW that old
which sg1000 is that? ive only ever seen the Mk3 in person and it's the coolest thing ever in terms of design. aesthetically one of my favourite consoles i think aha
it looks like something out of Alien or Mass Effect
The Mark II
But I also have the SC-3000 with native composite output
awesome
With a smaller CRT, you really get that retro vibe
they're so cool, i def understand not wanting to mess with those too much beyond maintenance
I usually recap and clean the insides up
if my crt dies, I'm whatever about it tbh
if my circumstance allows for it i'd still like to have one around coz i do love em
i can also understand parents and just, sane normal people in general saying "hellllll no"
OMG... best glitch ever.
I have three 14 inch crt, but I only use them for retro events
That looks exactly like what happens when you slightly lift the left side of the cartridge.
Well... no cartridge here, just an unfinished core 😆
https://youtu.be/noyI7zZKu74 lower your volume
This is what happens when you open a US savestate with a PAL rom of Super Mario 64...
Oh hey, latest core fixes that bush transparency in front of Tooty in the intro. Nice to see these little improvements.
@bronze tree had a lot to do with it (frankly more than I did, I just have the latest version actually published)
Wow... that does look and sound remarkably similar!
is there a way to calibrate the joystick? I have a $14 no name usb n64 type controller, and it seems really twitchy. I keep way oversteering with the slightest touch. Granted I;m 57 years old and haven't driven a real vehicle since the 80's. I had a 1970 ford maverick with manual steering and wrecked it when I was 22 and considered it an omen...
I wonder if this means the cartridge ROM data isn't being fed consistently fast enough to the core or something.
I joined the Smash Remix discord and I wanna be sure I passed along the correct information to someone asking between MiSTer and N64 through RetroTink. I don't have a RetroTink so I can't speak for that.

Scale is off relative to an original controller. Replace your main MiSTer file with that and see if it feels more nostalgic
In this video he does show his face. Scam?

seems better. Thanks
@lone geyser I'm glad you implemented autodetection, your solution is great
Worst case is a controller that has a range that is 111 or something or much less than 96, but I don't know how realistic that is.
That's a homebrew version of Doom, not Doom 64
Diddy Kong Racing is just about completable
Where can't you get further?
Now I understand
The TT stuff is not easy. I think my Dad did it. We have TT on our cartridge
I did it like 5 years ago when I worked at an arcade and had a ton of downtime
It's extremely frustrating and requires near perfection on all the courses
If you manage it make sure to update it on the sheet. That would be super cool to be able to list
Did you get cartridge tilting working?
I did some calculation given this figure. I got 4.25 (68 / 16), but 4 is close enough, right?
Yeah.. 67.4, 67.4 instead of 68, 68. No problem... 😉
Where does the save state folder live in the filesystem?
/media/fat/savestates ?
just found it then, thanks!
Is there anyway to offset the position of the FPS counter? My PVM cuts it off
i dont think there is
no problem, thanks for the response
If you disable the data cache, the core runs slow enough that you could probably count them yourself.
I would say it was easier
Love your entertainment center setup, by the way.
To my knowledge the mister doesn't support HDR which really gets the CRT filters looking good on an LED tv with retrotink.
want RT4K. Have HDR 4K OLED
Same here
Iirc there is some „Fake" HDR
Rush 2049. That one next!
When its time 😁
Aw...
This is Wrong. Mister does support HDR and it works. You can turn it on in Mister.ini. On my TV it shows up as HDR HLG and you can clearly see the extra brightness. It also works well with the various scanline filters by compensating for the loss of brightness.....
Well I did say to my knowledge. But nice! I'll have to try it
Nice! I guess the Wiki is just really outdated
Disable expansion pak
Yea the rush games are fast, mostly 30 fps
i always thought that PSX was THE racing game console. but now i begin to think that N64 had even more racing games ^^
I thought the game had a neogeo logo and got real confused 😁
Not more, but some nice ones
psx has 313 racing games 🙂
N64 ?
Has about 313 games period.
but i talk about the ones that are worth playing 🙂
They're all worth playing. Even the bad ones.
hehe ok 😄
Bad n64 game marathon list. Go.
Thats about 4% of the library. So it is enough if n64 had 10 😂
i mean sure psx has many racing gems but n64 is very strong too
Don't say Goldeneye.
Quake 2 is black like quake 64
In all seriousness though. It makes me feel all warm and fuzzy to see the multiplats where N64 runs circles around the PlayStation.
South Park. Sarges Heroes 1 and 2
Mk4. Although that one is great on both.
Re~Volt
cartridge versus CD is an argument we don’t need to rehash, and BOM cost of extra RAM was easier for Nintendo to absorb as they had very reasonable to believe they could pull land at least 50% of the market again
I'm not talking media. I'm talking the games themselves.
yea
Cause let's be honest, if you take away the music and fmvs, what are you left with? (Now it's about media 😆)
on PSX, if you didn’t have a Mark-san like person to personally help you optimize data streaming from CD, you were at an immediate disadvantage versus folks who were already used to cartridge
@viral swift Nice photo's
Quick questions. Running N64 at Mister stable. Any improvements in mister unstable?
Maybe better analogue control.
There is a mister main that fixes the sensitivity.
I believe it's in unstable.
Thank you. How easy it is to switch back from unstable to stable?
Just keep a copy of your old mister main. Rename it to something like "MiSTerold" or something.
If things go pear shaped, you can always just name it back.
Oh... 😆
I thought it was just a local change
@zinc dew Comes in.
Sorts the database.
Leaves.
No further explanation given.
That was 100% what happened
I sorted to see what was playable and went through updating the pinned list here
In your defense. I rather liked it that way. But I thought nonit screwed with the way the formulas worked.
yeah I messed up : (
Whatevs, dude. It's fixed!
Who had to fix my goof?
It's not like you took down some kind of government database.
Me.
And several others when I made it worse...
Cartridges helps Nintendo to make a profit on the hardware. The medium itself was a good copy protection, helps also to make a profit on the games. We will never know what happens if n64 used a cdrom. 😁
@quasi storm ok I owe you
Not really, man. I was at work (Still am actually) and took a stab at it on my android phone. Failed. And handed it off. 😆
You better lay low for awhile, though. Someone may be looking for you...
Cartridges had better load times. I can't get into some PS1 games because of load screens
that being said, when I was a kid, I never realised the elevators in MGS were to hide loading screens.
I really thought we were going down up/down the lift
Yeah but it doesn’t do proper tone mapping and colors are way off, just like the Tink 5X. It’s just not powerful enough apparently, that’s where the tink4k comes in.
Yes, load times was a thing. But some games do a good job here.
But look at the switch with the animal crossing cartridge, loadtimes as a cd 😂
Turns out an underclocked 2015 mobile CPU isn’t the best for fast load times
My favorite loading related thing is Eternal Darkness on GameCube. If you listened to the console as you approached a door, you could hear it loading the next area.
he tricky part is that sometimes the game would load some kind of trick along with the next area to mess with your brain... and you could HEAR that shit.
I was able to pick out the slightly different sound my console made when it was going to do this, and I always tensed because I didn't know WHAT was going to happen.
It's like zit zit zit, here is your level, and zit zit zit now your head is going to explode
Is the transfer pak basically a glorified card reader?
I was ready to lay down the law Rob
I will never poop on games I don’t like. I only make fun of stuff I love lol.
I feel like as ex mod you have that right.
You love Holy Magic Century?

Not really. I think it’s perfect meme material though lol.
what ?!!!
I ADORE IT
Have you played Eternal Darkness with Pro Logic II ok your receiver and you cast a spell?
my heart is broken @zinc dew

You should never have sent Robby all your worldly assets and donned the robe
Wahoo
The final game with Nester
Man that Martinet video is embedded in my brain, going to be dreaming of those Mario voices coming out of his huge yeti frame for weeks
That game messed with you. For anyone that hasn't played it, don't read up on it, or watch a video. Just go in blind
Now you can dream of both of us flexing
I don’t remember buying tickets to the gun show
Hmm he looked bigger in that video and Miyamoto commented on his size so I figured he was huge
Someone should have placed a banana in front of him
I guess he could have also been holding the banana but it would ruin his Mario jump pose
one person in that pic didn't sort the sheet 🙂 I'll let you guess which that was
Uh oh. @zinc dew, It's him. HIDE!
mama mia!
Is Robby the MiSTer Ambassador? But where do we send him?
I’m so sorry!!!
too late
@wanton sun is the goal with the transfer pak to be able to emulate the transfer pak entirely inside the mister, or is it to be able to communicate with an external, real physical controller with a transfer pak installed?
So much for laying low...
#1096015979055697940 message
He could just follow martinet around to cons and emerge from behind him
“So you like Mario”
Don’t be sorry, be better
I'm joking, knowing you you're probably taking the blame for somebody
Oh, the plot thickens?
no no that was definitely me. I sorted yesterday at like 5pm to get latest on playable titles to update the pinned list here.
I thought it was a local sort
I heard it was retro Rob
I screwed up and I owe someone here

Super Mario 64 does not pass title screen without a patch. Does a technical post/article explaining what is missing to the core to fix this? Thanks.
I thought the latest version gave Mario eyes? Thought that meant faces were working now.
The no-face is referring to the pinchable intro face
Not the ingame face. That was a bug.
The title screen face is basically a tech demo that uses the TLB for some reason
Funny how they put a tech demo not used in the game itself in the intro just to flex lol
Robert does this cool thing where he builds in the order that gets the most stuff playable so you can fart around and make memes. Bless him
^ that was my technical explanation
But also my logic was that I'm hoping a "gaming" focused sd card was designed with frequent read/writes in mind and not just long term storage of photos/videos. Mostly I bought it because it makes me happy but hopefully they are decent quality if they are made to be sold for gaming.
(Imagines an SD card with led lighting and a software suite.)
I actually despise led lighting and think it is a shame the vast majority of gaming products think gamer means "should be used at a rave".
clear cases and led lighting are for psychos
I just want a black box that makes the pixels go zoom on my screen
I was actually really sad the best steamdeck backplate for thermal cooling only comes in transparent so I bought a dbrand skin to cover it lol.
Has sound and flickering issues, but otherwise... Yep Pilotwings is playable
There's moments where the fps goes up to 60 and it feels amazing. And sometimes it's at 15...
Would be awesome if it one day ran at 60, but who knows
Like riding a bike
in Pilotwings there are secret stars hidden in game, and they warp you to a birdman stage if you find one
Nice!
yes that would be awesome if we could get it to 60fps
I am also a fan of the Series X
is the series x allowed me to play my steam library natively, I'd buy one in a heart beat tbh
I think Racer looks more appealing on the N64 compared to Dreamcast version. Is the Dreamcast just a higher resolution version with no other improvements?
I could be wrong and change my mind but it always felt cheap on DC to me
I guess that the programmers could do better. Look Wii U with Zelda Breath of the wild. Only one GB of ram and a BDrom. 😁
Nailed it.
Perhaps a good investment to get no fakes 😁
Higher res, textures, and framerate. Albeit not a major upgrade at all.
Donkey Kong 64 is weird. You try to play the DK Rap, and the sound just dies. You skip the rap, and everything is normal.
It's like the core is sentient and is punishing you for trying to play the funny monkey rap.
Am I the only one who has ever referred to the Dreamcast as "N64 with less slowdown"?
well framerate is important... I guess it depends which one controls better
fake storage on Amazon and Ebay is really insane. There are so many blatant fakes by sellers with almost completely positive reviews that number in the thousands.
No love for the SanDian? lol
shameless fake
shady as hell
the real fakes are worse, though... cause the average perosn wouldn't know
No one buy this 2tb sd card for $10 by a seller with 211 reviews that are 98% positive:
https://www.ebay.com/itm/225732422795?hash=item348eb36c8b:g:hocAAOSwZJJk3i-S&amdata=enc%3AAQAIAAAAwP9lAWmY89WGxsVM3lnKAX%2Fh8nSJfY27TTiT1dSyACVCKpIMbahg2LsrVJ%2Fz0WC%2FFM1ZQ1rI9Iq%2BR7QYGdy929frKaL2YOlTbN%2BbkCXlylSoQKqXIudk7fb33OZO%2FldUqchJhgYH%2B4e899cHpC60WdY9NN6VnMeT9%2BC8z52PXXAAkMshEgstpAsfjrpxiFKZeXtGXTSU0XeRqTHo9ZxlGTef5OVVhjYK1NtxXEWQGXTDQHLhf%2FjyP7CTpmT52KcA0g%3D%3D|tkp%3ABk9SR9zd45XRYg
is there even a such thing as 2TB?
There isn't
didnt think so
And if there were it would be in the thousands of dollar price range lol
What do these fake cards actually do? Do they misreport their storage capacity?
im sure one day therew ill be
Fake is done to make money. So it will be done on anything wich allowed make profit. Years ago I got a fake PSP memory 😂
But not today, and certainly not for $10
never for $10 lol
If they can make 10$ where they make normally 2$, they do it
Is it bad I kinda want to buy a couple and just give them out to people for free and not tell them they are probably 16gb cards that are hacked and see what aggrivation that causes people?
working Pilotwings 🤩
trying this as soon as I get home
Pilotwings, and much more!
I never actually accomplished anything in Pilotwings, I always just flew around doing dumb stuff until I crashed. Is there like levels or something to it?
This is the way.
That depends on the fake. Some are only bad, others may tricks with the capacity also
is this just old @zinc dew ?
from the future
Not sure, there a cheap unknown brands also
yeah it was from E3 2015, I was there showing off DOOM (2016)
looks like you were just in from churning butter
correct 😄
did someone try the 8bitdo x retrobit n64 controller already? I have one laying around, but before I check the cellar I wanted to make sure that it works ^^
Perhaps better ask also in #controllers This channel moves really fast. 😁
I was, but we call it “doin’ awbacon’s maw” round these parts
Really I figured vigorous hand pumping was just called “Robby’s every two hours”
Only diff between @zinc dew and an Amish butter churner is only one got arrested for churning in their car in the Costco parking lot at 4 pm on a Monday
We are all only humans, except Robert - he is a Maschine 😂
Vaseline machine maybe
Rhyming burn 🤣
Oh wait you said Robert. Not Robby. He cool
I wish I had 10% from Robert, first thing I would do is cd32 core 😁
Anyone know when the updates for the N64 in the Mister main might go into the stable release? I ran into an issue with the AO486 core for some reason it caused sync to go out of whack and I couldn't use that core anymore.. hoping their will be a stable release of those changes soon.
I'd do a cd-i core just to make people question why the hell anyone would make one and explore the library looking for some kind of hidden gem that would motivate a developer (spoilers: they'll only find pain)
Not really, but many games from the n64 core runs also on stable.
had to chase after my run away dog this morning and now my minivan won’t start lol
Cdi is also history - so why not. Having is better than searching 😂
Yea there is a mario game and the last zelda game that didn't get a pc port to preserve.
Mario Hotel ?
Battery?
Just finished the first mission on rogue Squadron
I think it’s the serpentine belt. Been trying to jump it for the past 20 minutes and nothing. Earlier it was having issues with the power steering which is making me think it’s the belt since if that goes bad the car engine won’t start.
I don’t have the tools to fix that so I might have to get it towed
lol more time to play N64 I guess
Yup, and 1 of the 3 zelda games for cd-i never got a pc port. The first 2 did because they are arguably fun to play (once they have some control/ui improvements made to them) but 1 of the 3 was such trash the person that fixed up the other 2 refused to even attempt to improve it because he didn't think it could be saved haha.
quick question.. that i am a little embarrashed to ask.. is Quest a game? or just a meme game? had never heard of it growing up but i see it mentioned/posted in here like daily.
Yes
Are you familiar with "The Room"?
so now it is forbidden
Tommy Wiseau? 😄
i am
The short version is "The Room" is such a terrible movie people ended up enjoying watching it because of how bad it is. Quest is like the game version of that.
now we all must go on 64 quests in order to convince the queen that love is real and then robby can be reunited with his long lost cartridge
Like Superman 64 but with some actual funny parts mixed in with the pain
Robbyman 64 Brothers Legends
like Cheetahmen 2
So how is your playthrough going so far?
64% complete
The kenji eno series of games are the closest video games akin to "The Room"
D, Enemy Zero, D2
Can’t save!
Waiting for controller pak support
It's a middling RPG at best.
Poor acting, weird vision, a lot of passion put into it... a great game to laugh at with friends
So majorahs mask ocarina bug is TLB right?
Yep
everyone talking about their SD cards here 😄
here is my NAS

@wanton sun we need this feature lol https://youtu.be/IPkDvrM7Hwg
Simulating the effects of cartridge tilting by corrupting ROM-to-RAM data transfers!
This uses a custom build of PJ64. You can download it here:
http://shygoo.net/pj64-tilt/pj64-tilt.zip
Source code: http://shygoo.net/pj64-tilt/pj64-tilt-source.zip

I use a NAS for my setup as well
14TB + 1TB of SATA SSDs
NAS is the way to go
(I need to grab some more disks soon, but I'm waiting for Silverstone to release a specific case)
I have the disks but not the slots 😦
2tb is enough for me - not a hoarder
Silverstone when are you gonna release the RM600 to the world 😭
said the guy with 700+GB of games
I mean, it's not full yet
video/pictures
4K remux files, for a start...
Easy full ps1 set 😂
only 2.5Tb
My NAS is largely comprised of my entire Plex media library.
I put you all to shame...
But yeah, mostly stuff my partner and I have queued up for watching in Plex
Never, Full Set is over 7900 games
...My full ps1 set in chd format with regional duplicates deleted is 700gb lol
One day I will get there rofl
Same I'll probably rack mount eventually right now it's just a 4 bay Synology
I don't need a NAS for MiSTer, I need MiSTer Express with 5TB drive inside
I just watched these all again a couple weeks ago. Love it
There we go, I just need this case to come out for my home lab
"Pork chop sandwiches!"
My partner just ran through them all a couple days ago as well, I forgot how well those hold up
an entire branch of humor sprung from this
Do y'all have radarr integrated with the Plex watch list? That's the move. All my friends can just add stuff to their watchlist and it 'appears' on my server
Sonarr/Radarr yeah
Though, the watch list integration, I don't think I have that
I should look into it though 👀 I just manage it with Sonarr/Radarr
Years ago I have done a local dvd server with 8TB, cause my daughter scratched ever the medium’s… went fast to be full. 😂
Speaking of, I actually need to get my USB BD drive hooked back up to my NAS
I have some containers that'll dump a given disc's contents and convert the files to something less massive, then I can import those into Plex
That is nice
I have a few things I'd like to get off disc if I can since they're hard to find these days
I need to get a BD drive, last time I did some dumps and encodes I had to borrow the drive
External ones are like 30 bucks
what, they're like double that on the cheep end
When I bought mine refurbed I think I paid $40 for it, that's when they were a bit higher in price
My setup was great for the time. Just put the film in and the rest was done automatically. With a nice database and other things.
Ah maybe it's dvd prices
Really off topic but should I get everything to h265? I think that would be too much on my server processer should keep it all h264 right?
h265 can store better quality in less space. There's more complicated crap underneath that statement but that's the thing.
I spent the extra $18 to get a sandevistan 😄
I do H265, but everything playing back these files supports hardware decoding of it so Plex handles it fine in "most cases"
Right but serving it requires more processing load, no? I get 3 or 4 people watching at a time off a little Synology box
the problem is if the devices you're playing on don't have native h265 then transcoding has to happen and if your media server doesn't have hardware 265 decoding then it is more intensive to transcode
It really boils down to the ability of the clients you will be using to decode x265 content, not the server... unless it normally does a lot of transcoding anyway... which itself is not good and should be an indicator that you should probably not consider that route.
If you're not doing subtitle burn-in and the devices can decode it then H265/x265 should be fine
Just trying to free up space. I'm quickly running iut
If you're doing e.g. a "watch party" like I tend to do with people, there's ways to prepare optimized versions of files ahead of time
more storage is probably cheaper than upgrading hardware to support h265 natively
Yeah it's not that unfortunately
Now that being said, if the NAS has support for e.g. QuickSync then transcoding on the fly probably isn't that big of a deal
It just depends on whether Plex has the access to QuickSync
If Plex Media Server is showing 'Direct Play' most/all of the time for the video and audio streams with others watching content from your server, then it's just down to whether or not your upload bandwidth is able to handle the demands. Very little processing server-side should be involved.
if it has access to the right quicksync
Right
my dumb little jellyfin box has quicksync but not the right one for h265
Yeah it have 1Gb upload
(that is, it is old as shit)
Holy shit, you should get a few of those just to have around.
Thanks to the peeps who fixed the ordering on the sheet, I've hopefully put a lock on so they (hopefully) can't be reordered again on the actual sheet
Same. Fiber is wonderful. 🙂
"dirtect play" works if the clients can decode h265. With plex some client configs are fugged and there's other such matters that might force encode anyway.
I've shared my Plex library out to several friends and family members since upgrading. No issues now. Everything is wide open... no limits.
ime plex really likes to transcode even in cases where it shouldn't need to
burn in subtitles!
(figures everything will get back on-topic once a new build drops, so not too worried about contributing) 😏
subtitles are why I switched to jellyfin
no longer burning in subs when there is no god damn need
I have to do burn-in at the moment because Plex has some broken fonts lmao
anyway I played Custom Robo today and it was pretty dang perfect except battle scenes don't load any textures for the battle ground
it was nice to see that sin & punishment's subtitles are done proper now instead of black on black
I think it's because you used 84 instead of 85
Yeah, at this point I'm waiting for a couple missing textures to show up and then I'm gonna start going through it with a magnifying glass
I've got a recording someone did of a playthrough on N64, I did a recording recent-ish but as more things are getting fixed I may wait a bit longer
How are you guys playing your S&P? Are you using the original Japanese rom or is there an decent English patch somewhere?
Original JP ROM
original Japanese
The game's story is all English spoken so it's just learning the menus
even if you don't know Japanese, you just gotta know to hit the most upper right menu item to start the game
Ah, didn't know that. May check it out then.
Upper left
that one
Upper right is difficulty
Left is right.
look just get bonus
Lemme actually grab a photo of the menu, I can ID everything
I think someone ported the Wii vc whatever's into a real patch
lol
What difficulty are you recommending for a first-time player?
the default, which is easy
Vivid Dolls seems to be running but I can't get out of that menu or control the menu
you seem to be running
So starting top-left going down, Start/Continue, Training, Ranking, Scene Select (level/cutscene), back to title on the left, OPT for unlockables on the right
Thanks guys!
On the top-right: difficulty (Easy and Normal by default), audio (stereo/mono), controller options, then I think bottom right is clearing the save
Are you the red letter media guy?
In the controller options: normal/reverse for aiming on the left I believe? (invert), crosshair lines on the right
I'm not gonna decode all three controller layouts but that should be "enough" to figure out the game
Suggestion, do the training to see what things do
It’s like they are implying the controller is a golden deity
Training is heavy on the Japanese but basically it's "here's a button, push it"
It is
The N64 controller sure as hell is
Best controller ever
what do you mean. just hold it properly. all ya gotta do
Sin & Punishment is one of those games where the controls look confusing, but make more sense once you spend a little bit of time on it.
The only reason no one else has used that configuration is because they are afraid of getting sued by Nintendo. That's the only reason. 😉
Everyone else is just mad that Nintendo came up with it first.
The controls are a little confusing, if you're using a non-N64 controller IMO
With an actual N64 controller though, oh man it feels so good
I would argue a lot of Nintendo 64 games have that problem. Especially since there isn't an obvious equivalent to the C buttons on other controllers.
Right, which I'll agree with you there. C "stick" works fine for some but in S&P it's a bit painful, especially when also trying to sort the whole "L/R vs. Z" deal
I have an 8bitdo ultimate as a standby controller, so standard Xbox-ish layout, analog triggers
Z on those analog triggers for S&P is not good
It's got to be the most awkward controller that ever came with a console. I didn't think so in the 90s but now I certainly do.
yeah its tough. would need something with dual bumper buttons and 6 face buttons, with an analog stick.
Ideally something like LB for jump, RB for shoot, the face buttons for the C buttons, then...triggers for A/B because usually you'll never hit those during S&P rofl
(auto-lock is useful in some cases but you get to a point where you avoid using it, it's a bit clunky in general)
It works off this weird thing where you switch to auto-lock, then you tap the stick in the direction of the thing you want to lock onto
Holding it can often cause the auto-lock to say "oh you don't mean that target, fine then"
I swear the N64 controller was designed by orthopedic surgeons who were seeding the population for hand surgery later in life
its even better trying to play mario odyssey 64 as you need the L button to throw the hat
I’ll have one at 4 today
It's definitely more uncomfortable in my old hands vs young. Can't imagine playing GoldenEye for hours with one anymore.
That's why I play Goldeneye with two instead lmao
Yeah I just get a thumb cramp now after awhile. It’s fine on the right hand but the whole analog on the left hand thing just leads to cramps
The way the analog stick is on the left hand isn't really ergonomic yeah
Like it's in the right "place" but it's just not comfortable
Does the actual core still needs data cache delay for super mario 64 ?
It helps...
there is a different patch found to fix random crashing. still has occasional crashes that are caused by specific things
OMG, so yeah just did a update of all the stuffs today on my MiSTer and yeah OOT Master Quest boots... my life is now complete haha
That's true. 68/17 is exactly 4. Thanks.
Despite... you know... having it on the 3DS, Wii Virtual Console, and a PAL N64 back in the UK (far away from me right now)
OoT vanilla (GameCube version) also boots, if you rather want that
Ugh this reminds me I’ve gotta do some YT file management this week
easy to fill 14TiB... banks and banks of machines generating AI 'art' Norks
that or run a particle physics experiment
It’s getting out of hand. Like 40TB of junk I keep shuffling around
our raid array is like... 12TiB, we fill it up in about a week
I certainly hear you but that might have been more to do with your signal than the TV. If you ever get the chance check out a RGB signal on a half decent CRT its immeasurably clearer than what I played in my 80s bedroom. A tube gives a very distinctive look that really does give a different look to pixel artwork. Mind you as you're in the niche position of being a developer I can understand the desire/need for using a razor sharp LCD/OLED when debugging.
and thats... a pretty low data rate
Yeah iv finished OOT to like near 100% completion (just a few spiders out there missing) and was working on the MasterQuest but never completed it, got RIGHT to the end but didnt quite get time to do it
For that n64 would have had to support rgb (discounting the handful systems of early releases)
yeah, played n64 on a tiny CRT which we had in my room... same TV i used for the ZX Spectrum, C64 and Amiga... till it died 2 weeks after getting an N64 haha replaced with a slightly better one.
if it dies, it dies
and yeah back in those days, most people only had a single TV in the house... wood age of TV still haha At least in our area
Linux ISOs
I love Linuks
50cm was quiet large for a tv though being not the primary houshold device.
I remember my 14",35cm childhood 🥲
XFCE is my favorate Distro
That's the English patch? It looks good! Any reason not to use it?
no reason not to use it

It's not this one is it? https://www.romhacking.net/translations/920/
The font looks completely different based on the screenshots.
it should be in the HTGDB pack, which is what you should be using
It's not that one
@drowsy lantern I don't know what's all out there
Makes one feel a little ahem inadequit
Cops have been notified
Ohhh I thought you a vampire that liked, like
boats
pier
But yeah IIRC there's two patches: the one on Romhacking is a clean patch, and the other one uses the stuff from the VC release of Sin & Punishment
Mamma mia
I'm just giving you a hard time lol
or maybe both
Oh absolutely but this is possible nowadays and will be very possible on this core. It really is night and day playing these old games on CRTs vs modern LCDs/OLEDs. I know it sounds a bit 'snobbish' but it really is IMO but you shouldnt put up with the blurry signals we put up with back then - its partly why the N64 was seen as a vaseline factory that happened to play games (Im joking, Im joking - I loved mine!)
Hitler used Vampier instead of Vampire
@primal bolt WHAT THE xxxx IS WRONG WITH YOU
In German we say Blutsauger 😂
Too intelligent
I know how to trigger you
it's inapropreate and out of context
but if you can please beat WCW Backstage Assault so we can see if it has any bugs
do better
Yeah it wasn't funny
Yeah i mean, looking at the old display modes on PCs back in the day... CGA was it, the weird horrible one where everything looks either pink or blue... but basically if you ran on the display it was intended for, it kinda auto mixed stuff to create more colors. Really interesting how people got around limitations. but yeah in the case of some of these old systems, haha my memory of the graphics is like... oh... on an moden display it looks kinda pants... it used to look so much smoother.
Hitler wasn't funny
but then its only really smooth because the displays are blurry AF
neither are you
I'm not trying to be funny... settle down
Then my question would be what is the goal?
there is no goal, I was talking to my friend vampier
There was a time, that consoles used colored plastic on the tv to imitate color 😁
haha yes... even lower tech, hardware solution
stick on the display with static haha different era... kids these days! dont know their born
I don't like blocking people - but you are on my permanent brownlist
Anyone know what's next on the dev docket?
Depends on the fun from Robert 😁
is this actually comfortable to hold? I've never seen the back of these controllers
