Only just now getting to some testing for today's build. So awesome to see Doom 64 and Bangai-O working now!

lament escarp
languid dune
#

Not kidding. It's mostly black screen, but there is some visuals present.

ocean lily
#

it's crazy seeing how fast lots of things run despite no cache implementation yet

lament escarp
#

Hell (literally) yeah!

languid dune
#

Also, I just got the japanese Bomberman 64 to work for the first time (the one that is exclusive to Japan). But oddly, it says the auto cic detection failed for it. Weird.

64 dd can't be loaded correct?

Doom 64

mild ether
#

I forgot about the SM64 DD prototype. Will have to test when I get home.

ocean lily
#

impossible to play, but top gear rally gets into a race now

languid dune
#

Man, the controller update really fixed a lot of games that had menu problems. I can finally get into games like the two Bust-a-Move entries.

#

Nice, I can actually get to the character select now in KI Gold. 🤘

velvet nexus
#

you guys think this will get to the same level as the PSX core?

languid dune
#

Too early to say. But it will likely at least be better than any emulator.

#

KI Gold seems to lock up just as a match is about to start. So close!

remote hatch
#

Yes , i believe in Robert

velvet nexus
#

Its going to sound silly, but I just want to be able to play gauntlet legends

languid dune
#

Nothing silly about having a favorite classic game you want to play. We all have them.

remote hatch
#

I never had an N64 , for me it is a very exciting time

#

Waiting for Wave Racer

velvet nexus
#

it just never plays nice in any emulator

mild ether
#

I never had one growing up and only really played GoldenEye with friends and this core is actually making me interested in playing it now.

velvet nexus
#

I can use angrylion to run, but ugh

languid dune
#

Got a little white line at the top of the screen for Mischief Makers for the first time! Progress! šŸŽ‰

sullen harbor
#

I wonder if anyone has tested the latest Ares stable or nightly for Gauntlet

languid dune
sullen harbor
#

Also I think the dreamcast version runs okay

#

on emulators

languid dune
#

Plus the NSO games always force that hideous boarder around the games. I can't stand it!

remote hatch
#

I recently bought my first N64 for testing purposes

sullen harbor
#

I agree. Though I've been very surprised in a goodway by Ares

languid dune
#

Come on Midway's Greatest Arcade Hits, why can't you be like big brother Namco Museum and just run like a boss on the core?

#

LOL, I actually won a match against the cpu in Mortal Kombat Trilogy by spamming jump kicks and uppercuts.

#

Love that it boots up now.

#

Also got in game with MK Mythologies.

#

Same with NBA Hangtime for the first time.

#

Lots of Midway games working now.

lament escarp

#

Rampage 2: Universal Tour also gets in game now. Before only World Tour could get in game.

deft tree

being able to play 64 trilogy with good controllers/actual arcade sticks will be really sick

so if your roms first 4096 bytes big Endian style dont match those checksums it wont be identified

languid dune
#

I have zero clue how to check that. weow

vagrant ivy
#

its not that important currently

languid dune
#

I mean, Bomberman loaded fine regardless. It just had the auto detection failed message. šŸ¤·ā€ā™‚ļø

vagrant ivy

all the auto detection does is set up some internal options

languid dune

Yeah, it updates the cic number in the system settings.

Mother 3? That lady got pinched in Alabama on some new charges. Chrono dropped a dime on her 'cuz he got redpilled at a company retreat with Cid. Guy's a total De Santis off camera.

I had to learn all the lines for that character on the (two hour) flight. There was a lot of dialog. Hehe.

It's pretty shocking.

cerulean elk

Like sure I’ve yet to find D2 for the 3DO M2 but holy shit that’s obscure

The PokĆ©mon thing was funny because I don’t think I had the foresight or maturity to understand just how big of a deal it was: Nintendo had like a small section of their booth dedicated to it. It was dressed up like a PokĆ©mon focused store filled with consumer goods.

As a kid it looked like some random Japanese game with little monsters and the game looked terrible.

It will be quite playable once the z buffer is in place. I think it's just a background texture that covers most things. Maybe one or two more of the missing texture modes

If I was a speculating man. Which I am. Robert says he wants MK64 playable first so after z buffer the next logical thing would be the texture mode that the kart characters use.

I showed my mom the picture and said how pretty, but my mom just wants to know what this means for Chameleon Twist. Dad and friends though are loving the pics I share from you @wanton sun

wanton sun
#

uploaded the build. if you notice games crashing that 100% didn't before, you can try to turn of the z-buffer reads or writes in the OSD to see which causes trouble.

Is the unstable Mister main still required to test the core?

zinc dew

Haha that was a trap to find out who the poke nerds are

silent marten

OMG MK64 track is looking perfect

And not at all a mistake on my part

zinc dew
#

I’m loving the progress on this core but we skipped the X and Y buffer then went straight to a z-buffer? @vagrant ivy is that safe??!

vagrant ivy
#

Nothing is Safe. We should start at A !

unique coral

and you are really supposed to use rom managers to sort them. You should consider it as a source material that you build from

And I'm officially using my NSO N64 controller for my testing. It truly begins!

Holy crap, Mario 64 is already looking leaps and bounds better. Both literally and figuratively.

My broken N64 controllers got delivered today, just waiting on the 8bitdo kit now

silent marten

Now all we need is the texturing modes for some of these games and the core will be very playable šŸ™‚

Can't wait until Super Smash Bros boots and it just looks like this for severel weeks

No more weird overlapping objects from further away. Game changer!

Ha ha, it's actually easy to stomp on the chain chomp's post now.

Mario 64 also seems more stable now. Not crashing on me yet.

#

Thank you for this update Robert šŸ™‚

native mesa
#

I have 3 power stars!

chilly ember
#

Last build for mario didn't crash on me at all until I lost all my lives after at least 16 stars

languid dune
#

Just very easily defeated Whomp King in Mario 64. This update makes the game so much more playable.

chilly ember
#

So probably possible to finish the game without a crash if you don't lose all your lives

wanton sun
#

still not easy to get the stars for first bowser world...half the levels are black, so must get nearly all of the other

native mesa
#

freeing chain chop is easiest

wanton sun
#

i gave up after 7 stars now, the others require better controls than what is possible with these 15-20fps

chilly ember
#

If I get through dire dire docks and second last bowser level before the fight, I should be able to use the stair glitch and finish the game

wanton sun
#

dire dire docks is black, you will not get anything there

chilly ember

The swimming levels are tough because can't tell where you are

Dang

I figured so, just never got there yet

orchid nimbus
#

nice

wanton sun
#

well yes, for psx the developers knew and adjusted the rendering for it, for n64, the devs didn't have to care and sometimes it's impossible to see something without z-buffer

How did peach bake a cake anyways, there isn't even a kitchen with an oven
