Starfox 64 goes in-game.

wanton sun

silent marten

@vapid hawk RE2 will be a lot longer before that will boot because of the FMV decoder that it uses

Maybe if Robert has that implemented in his emulator he could get you a savestate at the start of the game but I would expect it to still be very broken

native mesa
#

I want a Mario 64 with the features of Mario 64 DS

hollow rune
native mesa
#

I don't know. I mean the source code is out there so anything is possible I guess

wanton sun
native mesa
#

You can

hollow rune
#

people always say playing it on 3ds gets the feeling right, but this is completely wrong since the analog is just being mapped to the digital controls of the software

native mesa
#

At least with analog controls

hollow rune
#

not really

#

There are 3 control options

#

one for the d pad

#

one for the thumbstick

#

and like a hybrid one

native mesa
#

It doesn't map to the dpad

#

It uses the touch screen 'analog' somehow

hollow rune
#

I tried it recently and this was not my experience

#

and it really doesn't sound like something Nintendo would do, because it would require a patch or for the 3DS to recognize what is going on

#

not sure if the wii u one is different

native mesa
#

Let me try to boot up my 3ds I can probably throw a quick vid in here

wanton sun
#

i tried a hack some time ago, but it wasn't great. I would want exact n64 controls. Otherwise it might be analog, but still different and muscle memory kicks in....

hollow rune
#

i would love to be wrong

#

like you will still have to hold a button to run and it will lock into one of 8 directions

#

HOonestly the thmubpad is the best way to play the game

#

you get used to it

native mesa
#

Only Dow side to these hacks are they take a million years to load the game

brisk drum
#

Woah! Big progress! Awesome

native mesa
hollow rune
#

That's awesome

#

I did not realize that worked

#

My next question is how?

native mesa
#

The touch screen had full analog controls intended to be used with that thumb thing

hollow rune
#

That I know, but what tells the system to map the thumbstick to that

#

that is what surprises me

#

the little circle doesn't show up

native mesa
#

The circle shows up I think just out of bounds of the screen

zinc dew
#

hilarious

hollow rune
#

That is cool

#

This panda has been schooled

#

Thank you @native mesa

native mesa
zinc dew
#

Who knew that Nintendo themselves had to prove to everyone that yes, Mario 64 was a better theme with analog controls

#

Because that game controlled like ass at launch

#

Playable ass tho

wanton sun
#

looks better than what i tried

#

it's on 3ds...does it work on citra?

native mesa
#

I honestly forget how I got it set up. I'll dig into it

stoic parcel
#

Im surprised someone hasnt backported at least some of the additions from the later Mario 64 ports back into the original ROM.

hollow rune
#

The 3D All Stars version is the japanese rumble version with localized text stuck back in I think

stoic parcel
#

So you can play as Luigi and all that other stuff on original N64?

native mesa
#

Here it is

hollow rune
#

oh, so it wasn't in the original

#

that makes sense

#

but that's a great hack

native mesa
#

It's just an action replay code

#

So I assume it would work on citra

#

Maybe not "The patch uses RTCom, a custom protocol that utilizes two free 1-byte legacy RTC registers, to pass data between Arm7 and Arm11 in order to allow the game to use the Circle Pad for controls. It requires TWPatcher with RTCom enabled in order to work. At the time of writing, a detailed description of RTCom by Sono can be found in the comments of the gbatemp thread."

omg!!! I can't believe we are already getting glitchy gameplay working on decently resource heavy games! (As in proper games that use most system resources and not just atari ports)

I thought it would take months to get to this point! Completely insane!

So the actual US release for Mario Kart doesn't get into play, but the version in the gigaleak does ๐Ÿ™‚

I need to shut MiSTer down for the night, but it is looking like some of the tech demos in the gigaleak pack are now booting, which were not on the previous build. If anyone is looking to do some testing that could be a good one to look at, there is a tab on the far right of the sheet ๐Ÿ™‚
