Do any of the other discs require a cart to be in the N64 during use other than the F-Zero track builder?
Yeah, that thing isn't going to do anything. Although curious what happens when you boot it up these days, if you see anything at all
some people just like to be offended all the time it seems
I am offended
This was data found on a Randnet disk that I purchased off Buyee. It contains various emails sent out to Randnet subscribers. Jump cuts and "censor" bars were added in areas that contained info on the previous owner and their private convos. If you wish to see every official email backed up from this disk, I have dumped their contents and have p...

i made a video browsing my used copy
Oh nice!
basically clicking on anything that boots to a webpage wont work, but this copy still had saved emails
Didn't appreciate you had OG hardware, do you have the full library?
all but the two randnet exclusive games which are four digit priced
Can you type in any part of what still runs in Radnet?
you can type in the url field with your randnet keyboard all you want lol
not much point though
Hah, no, but does give people a way to confirm their $1000+ keyboard actually works š
What are these Radnet games? They download things like Satellaview or disks sold separately?
randnet had an online store where you could buy stuff through a website on the disk
two games, the keyboard, and some promo swag were exclusive to it
doshin's expansion and some golf game were the exclusive ones
Interesting, I didn't know about those. How do emulators handle them?
just like any other game, they're on disks. it was a mail order type deal
they aint cheap
they were games exclusive to a service that was niche to begin with, and even then you wouldve had to bother going onto this site on your 64dd and buying them
That's crazy
I remember years ago always wanting a DD, and then in the last few years I've looked at prices and realized it's really probably not worth it lol
Yeah, I am kicking myself for not buying one and all the games when you could get them 5-10 years ago for around £600 from Japan. They go for thousands now.
the 64DD was the one really rare video game thing that I really wanted so I did
I paid much less than 1000
I did manage to get a Satellaview a few years back for not too much, and those have rocketed up recently so glad I did
I do remember when the unit itself used to only be like $500, but I didn't have the money back then
lmao it's funny to see this and go "wow that's actually a better deal than most for this"
Everything related to old video gameshas rocketed up.
The shit? Who would do that
So not worth it. Iād love one too but not anywhere near the prices they get these days
Nintendo + ārareā = silly pricing
Sufami Turbos are still cheap if anyone is hankering for obscure Nintendo hardware
Is the Oxygen64 demo available to be posted?
That one?
yes, thank you. I think I had the wrong name.
NP! It's running very well on the latest build.. And is kinda the prettiest N64 game I've played....
Do we have a compile of the latest version that runs this?
I manually compiled from the github drop.
Kuba has one up the thread a bit. #1096015979055697940 message
Where do I return my mister box? Iāve tried everything but quest 64 just wonāt run.
Blow on your cart and try plugging it in again
I'll sent you the return address - I'll pay shipping for you
In this video I look at 41 Mods that work on actual console through a flash cart like an Everdrive 64 or a 64 Drive.

64Doom: https://github.com/jnmartin84/64doom
Doom 64 Discord: https://discord.gg/Ktxz8nz
Yes, as usual I am playing Doom on my Nintendo 64! But things are different; this is jnmartin84's 64Doom, which is a port of the classic Dooms to the N64. It's like what people thought Doom 64 was; a port of Doom. I wish I could explain all the work which h...
Can y'all imagine how the OG Doom & Doom II would've played on the N64?
Probably not that similar to the PSX ports.
I was just playing the PSX one tonight, really enjoying the music in it. Different, but really fits well.
It'd have been a Jaguar style port as most were. This version looks really good, audio is a bit munchy but all the assets look there.
I mean, I'm happy that we got Doom 64.
Yeah someone ported both DOOM games to the N64, I have custom carts of both ports
There it is, build your own DOOM port
Ohhh port the PS1 version?
That would be cool
How do they play?
I have a way old build so not good lol
Are there good builds? I pictured it as being filled with slowdown and somehow worse graphics lol
Guy started in 2014, made a few updates and thatās where someone custom made two carts for me. In 2019.
Then the ports got like a billion updates in 2020 and onward, presumably due to Covid boredom lol.
Framerate isnāt good but itās the full DOS game
But Iām sure itās much better now
My House is a work of (f)art
I loved dark corridors with blinking lights and monster closets
And round platforms with glowing armor that is not at all a trap
That'd be cool if PrBoom were ported to N64, that would open up a lot more TCs and map packs
There's a lot for OG Doom as well, but still
PSX doom was a joy to play on MiSTer, you can even something resembling a dual stick setup if you remap correctly
I will have to try that
Having played doom before the age of the mouse i can say that anything not involving the arrow keys to move and the spacebar to open doors
Is sacrilege
Well... there's always the pc port
I will play Doom using the Dreamcast fishing controller.
Donkey Kong Bongos
reminds me of people playing with ddr pad and guns together
I'm just glad N64 didn't get a light gun game
sin and punishment feels like a game that started out with a light gun
Panzer Dragoon feels like a game that started out trying to be good
holy shit, thatās incredible, I love that duck
lmao the quack at the end
Oh my god, like I canāt even troll reply. The duck sealed it, I got destroyed lmao
What would be some choice titles to stress test an N64 emulator? Mine would be: Banjo-Tooie, Castlevania - Legacy of Darkness, Resident Evil 2, Yoshi's Story, Kirby 64, Perfect Dark, and Turok 3: Shadows of Oblivion.
Quest 64, for sure
I say this because out of the ones that I mentioned, Banjo-Tooie and Turok 3 struggled a bit on a real Nintendo 64, and somehow still run worse in emulation.
Quest 64 is considered by some to be the best emulation stress test for accuracy
and Daikatana š
nah but seriously Banjo-Tooie, Castlevania - Legacy of Darkness, Resident Evil 2, Yoshi's Story, Kirby 64, Perfect Dark, and Turok 3: Shadows of Oblivion. - I think ok for testing
What? Itās easily one of the best games. Have you played it?
I've seen reviews of it. Dear God!
And yes. These are the games from the top of my head that I think pushes the limit of the console. I wish there was a definitive list.
As noted on Controllers thread;
N64 controller back in stock on UK Nintendo store.
https://store.nintendo.co.uk/en/nintendo-64-controller-for-nintendo-switch-000000000010006981
As well as...
Raphnet N64 USB adapter also back in stock.
https://www.raphnet-tech.com/products/dual_n64_to_usb_adapter/index.php
Recommended Raphnet for Rumble/Transfer/Controller pak compatibility (on pc at least), but both may get some use before too long
It you were kicking the tires on an emulator, it may be worth seeing how they handle the three games with additional hardware in the cart:
Animal Forest/Animal Crossing (RTC)
Mario No Photopi (uses a memory card reader)
Morita Shogi 64 (Modem for online play)
i.e. do they boot, and if so do they have any emulation of the enhancements or is the functionality just omitted
Might be worth trying the Aleck64 (N64 Arcade) conversions and see if those run fine as well.
Donkey Kong 64 comes to mind. That game in particular is really sensitive to any timing changes, so it's a good stress test to see how well the lag is recreated.
Cruis'n and Cruis'n Exotica are Aleck64, correct?
I agree. Let's not forget the mandatory rumble bug.
I don't think so, unless these are one of these?
Games
Eleven Beat
Hanabi de Doon! - Don-chan Puzzle
Hi Pai Paradise
Hi Pai Paradise 2 - onsen ni ikou yo!
Kurukuru Fever
Magical Tetris Challenge: Featuring Mickey
Mayjinsen 3
Star Soldier: Vanishing Earth
Super Real Mahjong VS
Tower & Shaft
Vivid Dolls
Variant Schwanzer (unreleased)
If you have the Everdrive pack then there is a folder of them
I wish Aleck64 had more on it
Tower and Shaft is a good time
Yes!
And weirdly enough, Star Wars Episode I: Racer
Technically speaking, every Rare, Factor 5, and Acclaim game.
Tetrisphere; hardly anything I've seen emulates it properly - either slow all around or has choppy audio
The three best games to stress test N64 accuracy:
- Resident Evil 2 for the decompression microcode
- Indiana Jones and the Infernal Machine or Star Wars: Battle for Naboo for its custom graphics microcode
- Perfect Dark for just being the most graphically intensive game and requiring the ram pack to function
Mario64!!!
Were the billboards over the course in Mario Cart not famous for emulators not being able to render?
I am thinking of the screens where it shows you a TV style image of the race you are taking part in
That's due to how emulators fake and hack things together; an FPGA reimplementation won't have that issue
That's good to know
Still can't fathom why that happens.
What about Banjo-Tooie, DK64, and Turok 3?
The former two are big-ass collect-a-thons from Rare where the worlds are big, and a lot of things are going down at the same time.
The latter is a FPS with it being more or less equal to Perfect Dark in the graphics department.
I mention these three, because like the others I mentioned before, they can be incredibly hard to emulate.
Yah, theyāre good too. I mean really anything is worth testing.
I was just looking at complex or nonstandard code.
Your list is great too.
What about Turok 2? It had a neat pen and ink mode
Arguably Turok 3 is a way better test than RE2.
Thatās just wireframe rendering
Ah, not a good test then?
I mean anything is imo
But itās not a unique graphics mode the console doesnāt innately support, theyāre just displaying wireframe rendering
Added to the list.
Should also add Wave Race 64 because of the water tech.
Water tech - Water physics and textures.
Clayfighter - Sculptor's Cut as well.
||The less mention of Clayfighter 63 1/3, the better.||
Wetrix
Turok 2 pushes the n64 pretty hard, it has framerate drops big time, and the ram expander gets really hot so its constantly accesing it
I believe it uses it for hi res mode
Thatās a misnomer, itās really the āsingle digit fpsā mode
Its the reduce global framerate option
Also that game has pen and ink mode
And both games have a bunch of weird dev cheats that do shit like turn on gourad shading
Might be good to use some of that to test it on the fpga since thats not stuff you typically have access to, it will let you know if some of the graphics are rendering accurately
Oh thatās a great point, easy access to the systemās built-in rendering techniques.
I imagine you can bypass the cheat menu and use a gameshark code
Im trying to think of other games that have cheats like that
Bomberman Hero for being the best game on the system too
i think the mario kart screen on the first track is just reading back the framebuffer to a texture. Maybe it's difficult if you use hardware rendering, e.g. opengl. In a low level environment you won't even notice it.
That was that one off ātestā back in the day with emulation it seemed. Nobody managed to implement it / implement it correctly for a while
Itās better than the other two?
Thatās awesome, I should play it then!
@zinc dew
The memes are too strong, quest 64 should be like $15 max
arrrg those prices lol
At least know without a shadow of a doubt that Quest 64 is better than both Pilotwings and PokƩmon Snap
all those games should be $5 max, given that they lack manual and cardboard
I got some good deals. 64 expansion pack for 33, Genesis 6 button for $6, Transfer pack for 6, GC GBA link cable for 9
They had a TE joystick for 60 I left
And I wonder how much residue those price tags leave behind
None, they are actually good ones
but they look like they'd tear the og stickers apart...
Did Quest 64 have it's own Kiosk? I think not
It did. The discount bin
(Nah Iām kidding. Itās fine)
I was mistaken, it was Pokemon Stadium with the Kiosk
Or is that for Snap? I'll have to check next time I'm there
Itās for Snap
Quest 64 is where we went wrong. Instead of worshipping itās back to roots rpg gameplay we were all wowed by final fantasyās cutscenes.
why is the topic quest64 every time I look at this channel?
is it like the only good game for the system or what?
Quest 64 was the N64's killer app
Robby and the crew playing Quest 64
probably mario kart or something, odd grip that all three are doing
It's just rarer because most people that played it just threw it in the trash. š
if only quest 64 was ported to PC, my life would have been different
although is that a good thing lol
Quest 64 sucks big time
Just to keep the balance here š
Little-leaguer Robby
gotta start somewhere! šŖš¤
More like RPG for Finishers.
@severe quail I didnāt know you liked wrestling. Did you try the Japanese import Shinkaku Ligma for the 64?
It was one of the first rentals for n64 at blockbuster
And one of the most rented
Because people liked the art, rented it, and then brought it back
Blockbuster made millions off renting this game
Can't wait for it being Game Of The Month here
Also the day I leave the server
The devs of buck bumble were so humiliated they had to commit sepukku
That theme song is unironically good
im gonna add quest64 to the bad words blocklist
q*64
Quest 64 is the Virtual Hydlide of the Nintendo 64 thread. What that means is different for each individual.
They should remake quest 64 and do the bomberman act zero treatment
Yeah, I do feel the whole Quest 64 thing has run its course here, we should start talking about Holy Magic Century instead
that one runs like ass though
Nintendo 64 = Quest 64
SEGA Saturn = Virtual Hydlide
PlayStation = ?
Bubsy 3D
The fair comparison to Bubsy 3D might be Superman
Darkstone, maybe?
I was thinking Ancient Roman: Ancient of Dark Side, due to the comically piss poor production values.
I'm really curious how much space that FPU will take on the FPGA
Actually, leave that for Nintendo 64. It's more infamous there.
Replace Quest 64 with Superman 64.
If we do that, I demand we replace Super Hydlide with Bug! since Super Hydlide isn't actual poison.
How about Evo's Space Adventures, aka the PAL-only PSX port of Space Station Silicon Valley?
There seems to be a highly optimized multicycle 32bit FPU from Altera at around 1000 ALM. For a combined 32/64bit FPU that might be 2500ALM or so. But that FPU doesn't offer all OPs required for N64, so it must be increased to maybe 4000 ALM. As i will probably not be able to optimize it that good, it will be higher, but i really hope it stays in the size of the PSX GTE(6000ALM = 15% FPGA). It's completly unclear currently
Without the CD system, I bet there would be enough space š¤
Now do you think it could be feasible to have a very streamlined FPU for a perspective corrected hack of the PSX core?
Beyond the Beyond
Cosmic Race
oh Cosmic Race is hella early, it's a 1995 PS1 game and is laughably bad
From Mischief Makers
I think Paper Mario is quite easy to emulate
So it might be one of the first games, that runs
Like Wind Waker is for Gamecube
purely marketing material
i bet they play nothing
it says stadium on the bottom left
I think that's just advertising maybe? The kiosk was for Snap and has a sticker printer
i remember for the longest time most emulators had stuttering sound, inaccurate slowdowns, etc... well after mario 64 was near perfect. years and years of paper mario never feeling right. not sure why
also the wii virtual console version had slowdowns too from what i remember
maybe they repurposed it
maybe they build around mario64
but I think Paper Mario is just easy on resources
if paper mario is one of the first that runs, then i would bet that robert is doing it as a silent favor to me
not nessecarily simple to emulate
I was just mentioning it as what game I would play
š
idk if its high on some list other than that
it's my favorite game on n64 for sure
i think all the priorities right now don't even have the library in mind
from what i understand
it's all validating the model to hardware to a certain degree up to this point still
Wonder if we'll see a PC port of Paper Mario soon now that the decompilation of the US version is done
given how robert developed the psx core and we got to see it every step of the way pretty much, he likely wont' really chase compatibility or bugs in specific games until the core is very functional already
No, the previous owner was the owner of a local blockbuster, he had it on the floor then seen how kids were treating it so pulled it and had it in storage ever since basically new, then sold it to my local gameshop last year. The Stadium is just advertising you can rent pokemon stadium at the blockbuster.
I always thought the expected first game to run would be Mario Kart 64 since that's what he started with.
In the emulator that is.
The trick with meme games is they have to be unique and bad but have enough quirky/decent qualities where you can see someone liking it. It also needs to have some notoriety built around it.
narcoleptic caveman simulator FTW
How come you cant hook up a usb cdrom to the mister and load the disc in the psx core
Because weāre all sinners
The same reason you can't pop any replacement disc drive in cd based consoles. They don't all have the same timings.
Although if it were a dumping system where it took a little bit to dump the disc and then played a rom that might work, but you would still need cd logic on the core.
Be the change you want to see in the world š¬ļø
I have no programming knowledge and i eat crayons
me 2
@topaz otter itās a general MiSTer thing. No cores support loading of original game media due to hardware issues and general lack of interest.
Some people have done RFID work arounds for carts
Evil mister devs forcing me into the dark sorcery of p*racy
Itās not when you have the original cartridge š
Emulators can do it, because if a CD access was slower than it should be, it can just wait and speed up the emulation afterwards and you will not notice because video and audio is buffered anyway. In MiSTer everything is realtime, so one missed CD access already would lead to stuttering. A native CD interface would work, but over USB you have additional latencies and even more if it's connected to the ARM/Linux and not directly to the hardware, so it is just impossible to be sure realtime requirements are met
yes, this standard Altera 32bit FPU would probably be enough already. But the bigger issue with PGXP is the whole datapath in the CPU/GTE/DMA/GPU has to be changed. You have to keep the normal integer values and on top of that store the floating point values, because the CPU could do postprocessing of the pixel positions, e.g. for range checks and the CPU has no FPU. Also the GPU must have a FPU interpreter at least to convert back. Overal this is so much more work, logic and memory bandwidth, i doubt this will ever happen on MiSTer
Yeah I had a feeling it would be possible, but yeah a lot of work on an FPGA
maybe someone else would be crazy enough to do it š
oh well since you mention memory bandwidth, I'm not so sure
maybe it's not so much bandwidth, more the interface width. Currently a 32bit value is just a 32bit value. With PGXP you cannot just store 32 Bit, you have to store at least 32bit integer, 32bit float and some flags. There must be a memory structure for this and if these are too many values, it must be external(e.g. sdram), which raises timing questions
imagine dividing EVERY memory cell on the path GTE<->CPU->DMA->RAM->GPU into 2-3 memory cells
The two latest contrasting messages really show what the heart of this community is all about.
You all are great.
cd-drive snac adapter when?

Yep, could definitely introduce timing issues.
Even if a way is found
at least I can't imagine an efficient way of doing this rn
Is there a list of homebrew that works on the N64 core?
I think the fun is on trying all of them
Fair enough but nothing from the Hardware Target Game Database N64 pack works
I was trying to find more sources of homebrew
I think only some of the test roms are worth testing currently
Pretty sure thereās a link for a github repo on this channel with those roms
the only visual appealing is the n64niccc i guess
most others are either static images, very simple demos or text
(from the working ones)
wouldn't that just make the issue more glaring?
Ray Tracers
The spiritual sequel to Chase H.Q. that everyone ignored.
What do all the error codes mean again? I was idly curious to see what happens loading games, and interestingly got various different codes - E2, E6 and E7 on a handful I loaded. I assumed everything would have the same code at this point
Bit 0 - Memory access to unmapped area
Bit 1 - CPU Instruction not implemented
Bit 2 - CPU stall timeout
Bit 3 - DDR3 timeout
so for example E2 means CPU instr. not implemented
What do E6 and E7 mean?
E7: mem access to unmapped area + instr not implemented and CPU stall timeot
every bit weights as 2 exp bit-number
E6 is 2exp1 + 2exp2 => 2+4
'Yeah, we happy'
No game though..
Ah, makes sense
It's probably a good first game to work on
I think Namco Museum needs the least number of implemented N64 elements to be able to run, so it might work first before Mario Kart 64.
I might be wrong though.
Could be that Namco Museum will work before anything else, but i honestly don't care about it, so i will not test or work in that direction. Mario Kart is the number 1 candidate. No weird things in there as far as i can see and it only needs like 30% of the RDP to render fine
(at least for the first track, could be that some later tracks use more advanced things)
Plus itās the best Mario Kart
I love mode 7 but not as much as polygons
And all the ones after that arenāt even kart games - they add stupid stuff like gliders and motorcycles
Or that one where someone stands on the back of your kart
In all seriousness, Mario Kart 64 is the worst game in the entire series in my opinion. The handling is the worst, it has the worst track designs, and it runs like poop. That said! That doesn't mean it's a bad game. The worst of the best is still good.
First time I saw mario kart 64 I thought it looked nauseating
You can hook up gamecubes with the lan adapter for multiplayer
Other than that DD is pretty unremarkable
Mario kart ds has all the gba tracks
You're just mad because I'll beat your ass at MK64 every day every time.
Please, what's RDP in this context?
I love double dash for being well balanced
First, it's graphically nice looking and second is that it doesn't do much shinenigens like blue shells all over the place
It's still well balanced between skill and luck, other than the later titles who made it very arcade like
And I like the switching mechanic š
Double Dash was my favourite, I felt the Wii one after was dumbed down and worse elastic band physics going forward making it less competitive. Also the two player co-op of one person driving and one person doing the powerups was a fun way to play with my partner at the time who was a more casual gamer
Reality Display Processor on the N64. My understanding is that it is basically the GPU of the console.
I don't know how the Wii U version was
some people say it's better than the Switch
Aaaah. Yeah! thanks
i guess it's very subjective. For me mk64 is by far the one i played most, second probably mk wii thanks to the motion controls. most newer ones just have super wide tracks and are more item bound. I would have fun with mk64 even without items, thanks to the tracks. mk7 or 8 without items on the other hand would be boring
it's totally fine if you like those games, but i don't think i will play any 2D game on the n64, unless you count Kirby or Starcraft as 2D, which someone could argue
i had this game preordered for like 10 years and then they cancelled it for europe. Someday i have to play it, even though it's probably even worse in performance than on AO486. I think it has some exclusive missions?
i'm not even sure why i wanted it so bad, as i had it for PC and command&conquer was horrible blurry on my tv, i could barely read any text
Paper Mario? Ogre Battle 64? There are a couple neat ones imho
i personally don't count paper mario as 2D, but that's subjective again
I'm surprised people don't like Mario kart 64. When it was released it was the best 4 player couch coop racing game. We didn't look back to the first Mario kart anymore because 4 players playing at the same time was so new back then. Crash Team Racing on the PSX is also cool but it's not as perfect as Mario kart 64 was back then
ok
In general for my friends and me the 4 player aspect was big, I didn't know anyone who had an adapter for the psx to play 4 player games there and the n64 had so many 4 player games
I remember that being one of the perceived benefits of the N64
I knew more people with a n64 compared to the psx. I had both at some point and for me the n64 was then better party console while the psx had more good single player games. My friends and I sometime hook then n64 up to play Mario party 2. We still think it's the best Mario party that was ever made.
Bust a Move 2!
Mortal Kombat Trilogy
Bomberman64
Rampage World Tour! NBA Hangtime!
N64 MK Trilogy is the default version used in tournaments. It runs better and Shang Tsung can be used.
I wonder if it aged well but I played much extreme G back then.
SimCity 2000 for the N64 might be the best console variant
The missing characters aren't even worth playing honestly. Just gimmicky boss characters.
yeah MKT for N64 is kinda its own game, since it has more unique physics
I don't care for any of the MKT games. There was never an arcade version that served as a standard. I think the definitive MK3 game on the MiSTer is UMK3 on Saturn, quite playable on the current build.
Of course you can play the European version š
Super MK Turbo
Personally I like NTSC speed, its a little like turbo mode š
Really the best MKT is UMKT for Genesis/MD
From what I hear its quite polished
Yeah that would be cool
yeah probably umk3
Just develop it from scratch!
although UMKT is lacking on graphics and sound quality, it is a great experience
I remember when vanillia MK3 released in arcades, I was like...where the heck is Scorpion!?
Wouldn't it be nice if MKT on N64 could be reverse engineered? I'm sure people could do a lot with that.
Or Riptor
Fighting devs just didn't like the hot characters.
They just weren't cool enough.
Sub Zero is the only character in the series to have appeared in every mainline release.
They knew what was cool.
||I could keep going.||
Kinda like Ryu in SF right?
I think Ken appeared in every Street Fighter game right?
He did. He became Noob Saibot. Such a noob.
yeah never followed the story
I was surprised to find out Reptile was in MK1, and Ermac was in MKII
Yeah, Reptile was the start of all the crazy secret characters in the series.
Ermac was an actual error, and not originally a real character.
Error Macro or something right?
Yeah
Still weird that it manifested as a masked shaolin monk in red
Smoke and Noob Saibot were the real secret characters in MK2.
And Jade.
The MK lore goes deep!
Yeah but I mean characters that are really secret
Like, you can't even play as Reptile in MK1
but you can fight him
Yeah, he was a fight.
I stopped following after MKT š
How does it appeal to original trilogy fans?
But it wasn't actually rebooted. Believe it or not, going all the way to the new MK1 that is releasing later this year, MK's story is a continuous lore.
It's a love letter to MK 1, 2, and 3. It retells the story of those games, but Raiden is aware of how Armageddon ended because he sent a message to his past self. So thing play out a bit differently. It also includes most of the classic characters. Very fun game.
Also, I look forward to everyone who missed this conversation seeing all the new posts out of context and thinking we're still talking about MK = Mario Kart.
But it's a single game with all the characters?
Not every character, but basically all the popular ones from MK1,2, and 3.
What about gimmicky secret characters? š
I see an MK4 character
Yeah, they worked him into the MK1ā3 story bits.
I like that Shredder from TMNT is in that game.
No, arcade UMK3 is, trilogy 64 is something that often gets run as a side event or is popular in South America, itās by no means the go to tourney game
Yeah I don't recognize all these characters
I'm talking about MK Trilogy. Not MK3.
I think he means among MKT ports
PS3 and Xbox 360.
any of you played UMK3 on NES?
Lol briefly
Crazy. That looks super crisp
It's surprisingly impressive. and plays so much better than MK advance
Ah, I thought
Mystical Ninja 2 is a good 2D platformer if you are into those, but it is incredibly hard
That looks way too clean for PS2
I prefer street fighter 6 nude Chun li hack for fucked up nes fighter bootlegs
But is it upscaled?
Nope, that's just how the game looks on original hardware. It's a very clean game.
But seriously though, UMK3 on NES is a blast
I remember reading a review on it as a kid
Iāll stick to arcade lol
It was the first expose to me as a "2.5 D" game
Cool that you have it š
crazy
Reminds me a bit about FF 13 that looks also very impressive for the hardware it is running on
Lucky Facebook trawling and a nice redneck worked in my favor
I still have that old FF13 demo disk that came with the japanese Advent Children release.
The graphics really carried this game
Anyway, I hope one day MKT on N64 is reverse engineered so it can be optimized to play like UMK3, but with all the additional characters. Maybe even add the characters that were exclusive to other ports of MKT
@severe quail What do you call a beached mermaid?
Sandy
It's actually quite popular from what I've seen. Everyone demands its return
š
for a while people were down on it
Yeah that's what's funny
When it came out I remember everyone hating on it and saying it was slow
Now it's like a high point in the franchise š¤·āāļø
MK8 is probably the first one I've truly loved. I had fun with 64 in college but now everyone that I play with knows it so intimately that I have no chance
dd has this drift mechanic
that can be abused
I imagine it being super annoying driving normally and that then with people who use that mechanic constantly
Other than that, I love that game
And I would also be down to a hack, that increases it's speed
I remember Mario Kart DS being the one with the abuseable drift mechanic.
aka "snaking"
Which actually got its name from F-Zero GX before Mario Kart DS.
Is double Dash 4:3 or 16:9? I think it may not play in wide-screen which is a draw back these day
It's 4:3 only.
A shame since there are a fair number of 16:9 GCN games.
Well yeah, not actual true 16:9.
But it looked hella good on my CRT HDTV back in the day.
Then you had Resident Evil 4 that was just 4:3 and letterboxed. The ultimate in fake 16:9!
Anamorphic is actually 16:9, nom anamorphic is letterboxed 4:3
Not in Dolphin š
do you know about UMK3+? It adds Rain and Noob into arcade UMK3 a bunch of fun secrets, and a 2v2 tag mode marvel style
I heard of it, it looks really cool. I wish they would do something like that for Saturn UMK3, since that seems to be the best console port of the game
I don't have the space for collecting arcade cabinets right now unfortunately
don't need space to collect ROMs : )
I play it on fightcade
ive got the romchips to convert my board to it too i just havent yet
Fighting games? and emulation? what about input lag?
obivously i'm looking forward to the arcade boards making their way, but i'd much rather play real UMK3 emulated than FPGA any of the console versions
Hah, yeah, I had thought about using an example of wide-screen Laserdiscs but then thought that probably isn't going to raise more questions than answers;-)
Doom was always ment to be played with a mouse. Just watch the demos playing behind the menu.
Obvious use of a mouse: https://youtu.be/zVB2L_rlkIs
Released February 17, 1994. You can see how much more familiar with E1M2 Romero had become from his earlier attempts, quite a lot of shots get taken while he's still running around corners. After taking the chainsaw he opts to finish the level with practically no other weapon, which is pretty hilarious.
Demo captured from the original .exe us...
Only john romero played it that way, he used the middle button on the mouse for strafe
Everyone else played it the regular way
pretty sure for speedrunning purposes the mouse is the fastest way to play
although I never really liked how it felt
I was definitely keyboard controls only
i played mouse pretty early on
So Romero made all the demos?
Anyway, I find the game much more enjoyable with a mouse. It was a fun game to multiplay back in the day.
is the Saturn version that far off? The only difference I see is some gfx compression and slightly longer loading times.
but nowhere near the gfx compression you'd see on other console ports
Oh, I think one stage also had the wrong music
@fullbright @ADAMATOMIC @ID_AA_Carmack : DOOM was made for mouse input, so was Wolf 3D. Keen was expected to use keyboard.
It was, but keep in mind we're talking the shitty mouse with the little ball that had a habit of getting stuck.
When you play Doom with a modern mouse, it's really obvious how the much faster precision breaks everything, even on the higher difficulties.
You know what doesnāt break with faster precision? DOOM 64.
You know what is the best? Bomberman Hero
Indeed, couldn't agree more š
My holy grail of LDs. The earlier SQZ edition isnt that good though
is it even possible to complete doom with only a keyboard on its higher difficulties
seems like you just literally couldn't turn fast enough
You misspelled Hero. Itās H E R Oā¦not 64
Yes, i used to play doom with just the keyboard. Its totally possible
I thought keyboard was the only way to play Doom and Quake for a long time.
i originally played them keyboard only, but enjoy them way more with mouse now
same for duke3d
yeah with mouselook on they don't let you look all the way up or down
ion furys the same, i was just playing it today š
hm, Blood definitely seems like a mouselook game though
or if you're playing multiplayer
If youāre referring to this one, I agree https://bomberman.fandom.com/wiki/Bomberman_64_(2001)
Gotta use a mouse in multiplayer if you wanna get those swing shots with super shotty
Can focus the whole spray of pellets in a tight circle
the source ports of duke3d fix this
I've been trying to make levels in the build engine, imagine trying to build the statue of liberty with caveman tools
mapster32
I tried some of the other ones but it was the closest to the actual build editor
using teleporters to make swimmable water is neat
the technical part of it isn't that bad, its the creative part. It's easy to overreach on what your trying to do and make a mess
here's the funny part, I sat down with a pencil and piece of paper and decided to draw out the layout for a build engine map
I showed it to a co-worker and he's like, dude you just drew a doom map
i looked at it, and thats exactly what it was
I have played so much doom that I draw doom maps by accident
yeah that limitation of the engine makes you more creative though
i think shadow warrior can do true room over room right
Ball mice wasn't that shitty...
oh no, they were
Thatās one thing I refuse to add to my otherwise vintage machines.
sadly a thing one still has to do as a trackball aficionado
Same
I got a cool serial trackball to use with my vintage stuff
yup i remember those days lol
I thought trackballs were optical now?
You still have to clean the schmutz out.
True
There are 3 ball bearings in mine, but the tracking is optical.
But itās kind of satisfying
True.
is the rbf for the n64 core private or compile on your own still? I want to run these demos lol
You can always compile it yourself (I've done it, it's not very difficult), but you'll also see semi-new cores posted in this channel or via Patreon--if you're a Patron.
Ahh another man of trackball class I see
I wonāt touch a mouse
I used one out of necessity and immediately realized it was for me.
As an editor, it's so much better for my work.
And as someone who can't keep his desktop uncluttered, it's a life saver.
You guys must've had dirty homes or something, because I only had to clean my balls perhaps twice a year. š
I clean my balls every day. I clean my rollers every 4 to 6 months.
I use a trackball as well, but I have to say the vertical mouse from Logitech is even better for me
Used the one from my wife, felt awkward for a moment and then just like a glove that is mare from silk š
Nothing one can do against sweat and dust
Pet hair man, shit gets into everything.
Framerate Drop was massive when Napalm Bombs or any other Effect was. But i loved the Port somehow
Itās all I can edit with
Four button track ball with a center scroll wheel ring
A guy put his nuts in one of those automatic ones at the golf course, it ripped them off
The gene pool lost nothing of value that day
So... Can we go back to talking about Quest 64 again?
What are everybody's opinion on Banjo-Tooie?
I played it with my partner again a few years ago...and I didn't like it as much as I remember. Banjo-Kazooi was perfection to us though.
Banjo-Tooie would be better if it didn't have a weird fetish for being redundant. Like there are too many missions where it feels like extra steps are added just for the sake of padding out the run time.
You donāt want to know what gets under those trackballs lol. I clean mine with 91% ipa monthly
Was too long, too many collectibles, framerate was bad
Turning into a dinosaur was cool though
It has way too much backtracking for my tastes. At the time I remember it being really cool how big each world was but when I replayed it a few years ago I got really frustrated with that level size + the backtracking. It goes all the way up to the last world, it's wayyyy too much
BK1 has some backtracking but it's basically only unlocking a handful of moves, I think it held up a lot better
Yeah, BK1 is definitely the better game over Tooie. Both Tooie and DK64 go too far with the collecting and backtracking. BK1 felt like the sweet spot for the genre.
And DK64 is better than both
wasn't there a mod for dk64 that allows for instant kong change, removing 90% of the backtracking issues?
I mean I do like it, I just donāt love it like BK
Yeah! Waiting on your core to try it out.
I did hear about that mod.
You hear that? That's Robby saying "chop chop! Get it done already!"
i never owned the game, only had it for some weeks from a friend and got to the final boss without beating...will probably play it again some day, hopefully this mod works well
You naive children, that was his flex as he is already playing it on the mister core but does not want to share
We are all sweet summer children at ā¤ļø
Wow playing it on my MiSTer hooked up to CRT
it seems you have everything ready in your room
those screen reflections are oled accurate
It was an incredible game in an era where I was only allowed to get 1 or 2 video games a year, but I would feel now like it was way overstuffed.
Like every game I owned I had to play till the wheels fell off, it was long time between my birthday and xmas š
same here I couldn't beat invisible k rool, that fight was nearly impossible
i remember when "concerned mothers" wrote into scribes and complained because the word hell was in the DK rap
lol, my incredibly religious mother made me skip the dk rap because of that.
it's a miracle we even got to keep it
If we have a beta core till December I will play while singing this song!
Get ready for an entire month of Donkey Kong uploads.

The tag anywhere mod helps but DK64 is still a massive game, and some of the mini games are absolute bullshit lol 100%'ing it is torturous
DK64 was annoying as fuck but I was the right age with the right brain to absolutely have to 100% it because...I dunno. As a result I have strong memories of the game but buggered if I know if they're positive or not.
Thank you for the start of fpu work on FPGA š
it was so important to do the soft fpu for the emu before, i learned so much and it gave me some ideas to make it smaller, but overall i still fear the size and clock speed issues it will bring š
š¤
Take your time and don't feel pressure. If it can be done you will find your solution much easier to come by if you can think clearly and aren't putting yourself into crunch time. If it doesn't fit on the de10 all your work will still be ready to go when the platform upgrades fpgas along with your work on the ds core.
We appreciate you! The Domain believes in you. š
How are you getting on Robert? Do you feel you are making good progress with it? An FPU is serious business.
The barrel shooting was worse in 3d
Its a classic example of something that doesnt translate well from 2d to 3d
Aww TotS is weird but itās a mood
Bless Artdink
I like this little bit about the narcolepsy
Reminds me of how animal crossing was designed to play in short bursts with it feeling a bit boring after 20 minutes or so, counter-intuitive w/ regards to how you would normally want gamers to consume your product, but absolutely effective within the context of the game and its casual bent
have you ever played Bakuretsu Muteki Bangaioh? My favorite 2D game on N64.
The german dub is voiced by the same guy that voices Brad Pitt. Now you have to live with that information, too.
thatās hilarious lol
Think the speed is harder than the size.

Might've been an Expansion Pak thing
mario is now an elephant
They've finally embraced Dendy as part of the pantheon.
There were games interlaced vs progressive based on the expansion RAM?
Not sure I ever knew that
I think that is an option on Episode 1 Racer, can run at 240p or 480i with the expansion, but running at 480 the framerate is lower
Can't remember if it is 480p or 480i, I think the latter
quite a few games that support the expansion pak do exactly that yeah
some have a menu option to turn it on and off, some you're just stuck with it
typically games called it the hi-res mode
I believe Castlevania Legacy of Darkness, Hybrid Heaven and Perfect Dark all have hi-res modes
Indiana Jones only runs in 480i
think Rogue Squadron also has it
Pokemon Stadium 2 also is mostly 480i I think, but I've never actually checked myself, never had a copy
480i only, yeah - no VGA here
well, i just started and have no FPU instruction done yet, only 20% of the data transfer between Memory/CPU and FPU, i will not have some answer soon i fear
wonder if the 64 core can do my taxes when it's done
hopefully your taxes are done by now
I donāt even need to watch the video to know the N64 wins.
duh, the N64 has Quest64
I nominate @ocean lily for congress. Clearly they understand what the people want.
N64: F@#k you, I'm questing
How hard can it be, take some points and make them float
that's it, i'm adding quest64 to the bad word filter
with that you are making the pal release superior
Babe wake up new slur just dropped
Quest64 vs Grandia 2 or Skies of Arcadia
The true winner is plainly obvious.
Holy Magic Century
I didn't realize there was a battlezone game on n64, probably kept seeing it on lists and just lumping it in with battletanx
N64 core development time should be measured in "sleeps until Quest 64"
Q|_|357 8*8
Is that game good? I never played it or itās ports.
He kicked me out of a club in Miami Beach once
Well all of us were kicked out. He rolled in and decided to rent the club for the night so we were all told to leave lol.
I know right
I was at a Sony press event in LA before it launched. They had setup playable kiosks for all the launch games in a fancy club. About an hour after we got there the club kicked us all out because Paris Hilton was coming. The Sony reps were absolutely furious lmao.
I was just happy I didnāt have to play that Gundam game lol.
I got my revenge on Paris Hilton. I made fun of some mobile game of hers on the E3 show floor and she replied with āfuck youā lmao
I forgot what I said, probably something to the effect of āis this game a train wreck because itās an autobiography of your life?ā Lmao
I knew I had just one shot so I made sure to take it lmao
I have a ton of great E3 stories
Hereās me meeting Shigeru Miyamoto as a kid:
Sorry, got a little personal. Anyways, I hope yāall have a wonderful day.
The closest thing I have to an "E3" style memory would be when I went to Nintendo Powerfest a couple times back in the day. I remember getting to play Mega Man 3 way before it released. Easily had the longest line of any game on the show floor! I also played in that competition they had that used the special cartridge. Years later when they scaled down the show I attended another one and won a copy of the incredible Lawnmower Man for the SNES in another competition!
Today is the Japanese launch of the Nintendo 64!

(personaly, i want more, there is some time to kill before the release of the core)
(especially the ones where you insult celebrities š )
where do i download the WIP core?
Right now you can build it from the GitHub page, but don't expect it to do much.
There's an older build further up the thread though. But a change just went in yesterday.
ah, fair enough. what's the github page?
awesome. thank u
what is that acronym
It's a demo. The "Oxygen" demo
neat
He does post WIP builds for his Patreon subscribers
https://www.patreon.com/FPGAzumSpass
@solid crest even if you're not a Patreon sub he'll post them
because in the end the more people that can test the better it is
I basically just load up the build every day to test if it can play Quest 64.
I wonder if any of the devs that worked on Quest have any idea of its meme status at this point
i mostly do the patreon build because there are plenty of people asking for them if i don't do. As i cannot do patreon post every 1-2 days as they take some time. The builds are mostly outdated soon afterwards, but i understand not everyone has the time to dig in that deep already, so i guess it's fine to do it as i always have one build ready anyway
i don't upload them here yet because it's just too early. Will do it once games are running
(if there is need for it, i can of course load it here to the channel, but i don't think it's the time yet for the test-builds channel)
the only thing we can do is go through the list of demos to see if things changed
dork
personally, I'd rather you stay in your "inner developer loop" and not worry about doing builds/releases at all. just seeing the videos and screenshots of test suites is good enough for me to feel informed/involved š
that is, unless someone is offering to collaborate with you to extend the test suites -- but even then that'd be private and not for all of Patreon
yeah at this point i don't really need builds, though its great that you're publishing code already as you go along
presumably once games start working we can get the bot to do it
i got my everdrive in december, I'm happy to twiddle my thumbs until its done lol
I have an Everdrive, but I'm still looking forward to things like playing StarFox 64 with a flight stick
yeah also have everdrive, which is great, but it's fun to mess around with this stuff, try different configurations
I'd harass Robert with a lightgun PR, but there's no lightgun!
transfer pack!
Nintendo 64 accessories are first-party Nintendo hardwareāand third-party hardware, licensed and unlicensed. Nintendo's first-party accessories are mainly transformative system expansions: the 64DD Internet multimedia platform, with a floppy drive, video capture and editor, game building setup, web browser, and online service; the controller plu...
My least favorite thing about the N64 is the Controller Pak
would be amazing to be able to import pokes from gbc core sav files in stadium
But imagine running pokemon blue inside the core with the transfer pack
IF the core can be able to run stadium, i don't see why this should not be possible with SNAC at least. Not sure yet how much effort it is to emulate it, but as far as i see it's only an interface to read the rom and savegame, so could be possible?
i haven't looked into it yet, but there seem to be hacks that allow to run different games, so i doubt it's stored on the n64 cart
ive snagged two copies of mario tennis GBC recently but they're both being picky about running on my GBC
need to find my GBA to try
i think pokemon genuinely transfers
no, just the data of the pokemon
which is then read by the respective game
with stadium your pokemon are either on the 64 cart or on the gb cart, you can't have them in both places
And the whole Cart can be read too for the GB Tower mode to play the GB games on TV
It's also recommended to transfer and use your own PokƩmon, because the rentals suck.
as a teenger with no internet, i found it quite challenging to beat completly, even with highly optimized own pokemons, no chance with the ones you could pick...maybe today this would be different
Been playing the same on/off for months. Still difficult for my 30 something brain š
i transfered my level 100 mons and smoked through the first couple divisions lol
need to finish it
The raphnet v3 can support the transfer pak. It's funny on PC emulator though. Transfering Pokemon, works great. Trying to play in GB Tower, loading in the whole GB ROM, lags very bad
I'm just playing on my N64 console
i bought a transfer pak but it's only working if i don't touch it. good enough for development, but not for playing games. After reading about it seems that is a common issue, but i never had this 20 years ago with my own...which i don't have anymore unfortunatly
i got one freshly refurbished from my buddy who runs a game shop/arcade while i was up for a tournament
Looks like PokĆ©mon Stadium actually reads the gameboy rom. This person was able to get non PokĆ©mon gameboy games running in PokĆ©mon Stadiumās emulator.
1 was able to get this Super Game Boy game partially working by modifying the header title of the game and using a Game Boy flash cartridge.
https://youtu.be/cB9jr4lOOvw
From Wikipedia page on PokƩmon Stadium:
At the GB Tower, the player can play PokƩmon Red, Blue, or Yellow on the Nintendo 64 using a Transfer Pak.
I was able to get this Super Game Boy game partially working by modifying the header title of the game and using a Game Boy flash cartridge.
yo power quest off n64?
I've heard they're finicky as well so sounds like that checks out.
Yeah, I basically just plug mine into a second controller and don't touch it.
Is there a fix for problematic units? Is it bad solder joints or maybe the cart slot need a good clean?
To be perfectly fair, I don't think I've had any issues with my transfer pak so far, it was more of a precautionary measure. I just keep hearing how people's saves get wiped and it isn't worth the risk, to me.
Maybe I'll back up a cart and try to see how easy it is to corrupt a game when I have some free time.
It is probably worth people using them to get out some isopropyl alcohol and cue tips/cotton buds and make sure the cart and Pak's slot are clean
And the part that connects into the controller
Yeah, I disassemble all of my stuff and clean semi-regularly. Once I bought a pak I did exactly that.
Cant wait to get my gameboy camera pics off with this core
I found a way to improve the timings of the CPU by 1ns, so roughly 10% higher max clock. It costs 1% of the FPGA area. Currently only 34% of the FPGA are used(17% core, 17% framework) but still i'm not sure about it. 1% sounds not much, but it's 50% the size of the MDEC in PSX
i guess i keep a list of possible space improvements in case it gets rough
If things get tight just throw out the scaler š
Wich clock rate you get currently? @wanton sun
60 seconds per minute
Hi, all. Does anyone have a link to an already compiled version of this? The IDE uses up a lot of space
https://github.com/RobertPeip/Mister64/tree/main
Well I just found a a way to get a large amount of space back. So I can do it.
So tiny
numbers in red are original system. So CPU still misses timing by 1.5ns, but so far i didn't had any unstable FPGA even around 75mhz/2.7ns off for the CPU, so i hope i can go forward with that. AO486 at 90mhz is about 5-6ns off and still works. But overall the 1.5ns will increase over time: fpga will get fuller and datacache and TLB are still missing. FPU should be relativly independent hopefully. I hope it stays at >75mhz for the CPU without TLB and >60mhz with TLB
the point is: if the core is stable even with timing not passed, it can be cycle accurate for the CPU, which would be great. If that doesn't work, i have to use some tricks to speed up the cpu even with lower clock
@terse canyon appreciate it. Saves me some time
this how it looks for you all when itās working?
not sure what E04 is
would love to get my hands on that N64NICCC demo ROM to give that a whirl š
you can just download it
Do you have the bios file?
Rename your PIF ROM file (e.g.
pif.ntsc.rom) and place it in the./games/N64/folder asboot.rom
Appreciate! Love your work on the PSX core btw!
getting some error code is not unusual until you load a rom as the core will just execute whatever is in ram and with random stuff in there crashes relativly fast
before release i will make the core stall until a rom is loaded, i promise š
for now this is super helpful for me, as the core starts running whatever is still in ram, so i can switch builds and don't have to reload the rom
demo runs awesome! nice and smooth
great š
would have never expected to see you here. When i first visited your page i was probably still a teenager
Well the only place I have found a n64 bios there are 3 files.
normpnt.rom, normslp.rom, pifdata.bin
Appreciate the support. Everything old is new again... again. š
@maiden flower are you literally the person from that old website Zophar's Domain?
@inner garden Indeed. 11.9.96 seems like only yesterday sometimes.
the whole emulation world seems small sometimes š
wow 96 even...now i feel young again
it totally does
I remember playing DKC3 for SNES on an emulator probably downloading from ZD when it was what 1997 or something? In a tiny window but was amazed to see it working.
so those 3 rom files, assuming I have them (normpnt.rom, normslp.rom, pifdata.bin) do I just need to rename that .bin? or more complex than that
You need pif.ntsc.rom
i haven't seen these names...your file should be 1.984 bytes in size and start with byte 0x3C, that's about all hints i can give you
if you have an everdrive, you can dump from a real n64

I remember you starting it, from IRC
kitrinx, did you always use the handle kitrinx back then?
nope!
i gotcha.
I picked this up in like 2001ish
but I remember #emu. I forget the network name but Runt was an admin.
was fuzzbuster there? am I getting that name right?
it's been a real long time
OH YEAH
lemme think it was before efnet, that was the true beginning
that's back when it was evilhomer, infe, fuzzbuster, me, astos maybe
let's see who else
mascot
YES
if given enough time i can reproduce more names from my ancient brain haha
gosh those are names I haven't heard in a long time
who was the dude that got "banished' from there
something mage
i came in maybe right after that
those were fun times hehe, everything seemed simpler
midnight mage i think
seems vaugely familiar
I remember some debates over how possible snes emulation would be given its steep hardware requirements
yeah i came in a little after its beginnings, i wanna say we had snes96 before it was snes9x, we had VSMC from the_brain, and there was also super pasofami from nobuaki andou? those are the 3 i remember
VSMC had a yellow palette unless you bought it for $35
the_brain yeah
I remember some debate over the ethicality of charging for them
too
VSMC barely worked
yep, him and marat were among the first to try commercialization
yeah, super pasofami i think didn't do a lot either at the beginning, snes96, none of them had sound i don't think to start and ran slowly on most computers of the time
I sent you a msg
i eventually did buy an mirc license š
that was the one I used first
Damn Zophar's Domain, loved the PS1 PSF dumps there, so much good music. Thanks

Brian's Quest: Only on N64?
The real Quest will be talking about an N64 game that hasn't been mentioned a million times already. Godspeed! š

That one with Brian in it
Iāve heard that heās on a Questā¦
I remember the n64 port was bad
The original is great but you need a win98 computer with a very specific year video card
Mischief Makers!
I want to try the N64 follow-up to Shiren the Wanderer finally. Loved the SNES releases in that series, some of my faves on the console now.
Holy shit its Zophar
We have those on NES as well. Hit the Ice by Data East
Zophar has been on the server since day 1 š
not from day 1 but for quite a while š
It's funny that's everyone's reaction when they see his name lol
In saw zophar on Twitch once and I just had to join and ask - then I saw him here š
I was around since the early days of emulation - and most people who have know the name instantly
I always wondered what happened to Dave from DavesClassics
Yeah, I was too, I had the same reaction when I saw him here
I think it was 98 when I found out about emulation, I finally had a computer and internet
Zophars domain baby
My 90s emu news source
Zophar have you tried starfox ex yet š
1998 was about when I got into emulation as well. I remember playing NESticle and I remember the first time I ever played FF6 the emulator didn't support transparencies so the graphics were glitched.
that was conjurer, and he just dissapeared one day as far as i know.
no, but i need to! i'm just so bad at games like starfox that require good spatial awareness. hard to explain
but i will eventually. maybe the better framerate in ex will help me
No worries! The first option on the menu is god mode if you need it š
Then you can just enjoy the game
sounds like it could be a great choice for MiSTer Monday - does it have any issues on the MiSTer SNES core to be aware of?
Nope! Just use the MISTER/HARDWARE build (not fastrom) unless youāre using the new unstable core, then you can use fastrom hardware if you enable the superfx fastrom option in the hardware OSD menu
Fastrom only gets around 1% speed boost so itās not necessary
I do recommend using turbo cpu and superfx in the OSD tho
Hope you enjoy it as much as I enjoyed your site growing up
appreciate you! š just downloaded your patch off romhacking

now let me go remind my brain how to apply bps patches haha
š¤£
assume i'll need to use something like beat
Floating IPS by Byuu is my choice
Apply to revision 2 usa no-intro
The manual is quite extensive but thereās a few secrets documented in there too
And a few undocumented secrets
It was such a blast making this š
Haha, Iām glad Iām not the only one who eventually bought an mIRC licence.
Same people who bought a winrar license
I just moved to 7zip š
rarsoft would like to know your location
@viscid nebula alright, we have liftoff.
horray! š
if you hold Select and press X Y A or B you get some different stuff too
i enabled turbo on both cpu and superfx on the mister, runs well.
great! that 21mhz superfx upgrade really works wonders
starfox is the only game they used the 10.7mhz clock divider on
yeah thinking this will be good for monday's twitch stream
Oh sweet! Make sure you tag me, I'd love to stop in š
support the games in order of release š
funny that basically every video from him is about reducing memory transfers. in this case he exchanged 1 memory transfer/cache fetch costing around 40 cycles to a function calculating several multiplications and a square root in the FPU, costing at least 60 cycles. This only helps because the RDP is rendering in parallel and needs the memory. It's a very good sign for the mister core, as our average memory access only costs less than 20 cycles
Lol, i saw regular and fastrom and i was like āwhy not fastromā insert bilbo meme here and got a nice green screen! Will try non fastrom as well!
its kind of crazy how starved the n64 was for memory bandwidth
i think he said at one point in mario64 the cpu is only about 50% used
Yes, it really is. One example: if i make the CPU in my emulator run at half clock speed, but let the memory access cost no overhead at all, games run at least as good as with the real timings.
another example: In psx the average memory read is 7 cycles. With the turbo-cache this was reduced to 1 cycle, but only with cache hit, so maybe 50% of the time, so the turbo high basically brings memory latency down to 3-4 cycles compared to 7 and the difference is really huge. Now imagine if the psx also would have 40 cycles to ram š
Makes me wonder how much more it would have cost them if they made memory bandwidth larger
knowing nintendo, probably 5ct
its possibly a victim of going to a unified memory architecture before memory was really good enough
that would be more of a sega move though
Think with better and greater cashes the N64 could do much more. Not sure if SGI was afraid that they sell less Workstation, if the N64 was better.
Yeah still salty nintendo just didnt up the power of the cobtroller ports and made rumble self powered (max 2 can be done)
you can mod the rumble packs to run off the console
Yeah up to 2 ports only
yeah i've never tried more than 2
Although who has that many local friends these days
i used to take my hdmi modded n64 to the office back when i worked in one, 4p goldeneye on the 80" screen in the boardroom was great š
Wow at least gaming is seen okay there
Here it's still a kid thing to boomers
I really should play with my n64 more. Barely touched it
it has a decent library i think
I have one sitting on my desk when the Japanese Mario 64 with rumble support in it.
Fastrom does work on the unstable build if you turn the superfx fastrom option on in the osd!
I remember playing 4 player goldeneye pal composite on a large rear projection tv when I was a kid.
My eyes bleed just at the thought.
It was just low fps blur
Robert great new patreon post, was a really good read this morning
Oh hey there @silent marten
Hey hey Z
Whatās good in your world
As you mentioned it barely matters if just went non fast rom! Will let you know how it went, but err in the snes channel š
Oh yeah poor rob š
Damn! just learned Zophar from ZD is in this discord. Wanna just thank you for all the emulation you brought me in the past! š»
Zophar? The legend?

Thats were I got ZSNES and UltraHLE from š
No problem, thanks for the support!
Man, ZD was a daily visit for such a long time. Amazing work.
I have fond memories of ZD and my first snes emulator experiences. Man time flies. Nice to have you here!
How dare you steal super scope 6 font
what the hell zophar is a real person
I think it didnāt host roms? Only emulators
maybe your right
Lots of geocities sites with roms though haha
i did download nesticle from there
the cursor was a bleeding hand
I was like I hope my mom doesn't see this lmao
"DANG-USSS!"
Correct. We may or may not have had links to external sites to give a helping hand, however.
next your going to tell me that ebaum from ebaumsworld is also a real person
how old were you when you created that site
i have fond memories of downloading ultrahle
and getting it to work with a glide wrapper(I had a ATI Radeon 7500)
and playing ocarina of time with a joystick
the rom was 25mb I think and it took roughly three hours to download over 56k
something awefull was also cool around that time
yeah I use to read that, lowtax was a piece of trash though
well he died
