#SNK Neo Geo

Fun stuff. Now my CDZ is really just gonna be a shelf queen
is kof 99ae the only major hack unsupported now?
@plucky stag do you know what is the difference between kof99ae and Millennium Battle?
I don't know if it is unsupported, or that a correctly built file or romsets.xml entry just doesnt exist for MiSTer.
there's quite a few. It adds in a groove system ala KOF 98 or capcom vs snk, unlocks all the hidden characters and bosses + balance tweaks, and adds in EX versions of the returning cast based on kof 98
i just added it to my xml and it booted
well hey if it works on the new mister update then great
Well, there you go
<file name="199-p1.bin" index="4"/>

Thank you š
give it a try
RAM 3, 128. All right
hm
Im missing some files
They must be in the original kof99 zip
kof99ae appears to work flawlessly, from my testing. Latest unstable build. Ill have it and a romsets.xml up on my archive account in a bit.
And they're up.. wasnt sure how long it was going to hang on the upload page. Never can tell with that website.
Pull request?
im making sure its the latest rom im using before a pull request
Shame they couldnt add in the Dreamcast exclusive strikers too.
Thank you, I love how you have CGR stuff on there too. I was such a fan I have some of Marks art hanging in the basement.
I think you might be confusing my uploads for something else. Nonetheless, here is a relevant gif:
Ah, a newer version.
yea but i had to join p2 + p3 roms together
hey, if it works
Works fine. I'll have it up in a minute with the new xml
much appreciated
Sorg said he will add it to the official xml.
KoF98 got added to romsets.xml!
https://github.com/MiSTer-devel/NeoGeo_MiSTer/commits/master
The image for Jockey I have is still giving me fits, but it's cool to know they got added.
is there some trick I'm missing to keep this set to US & CDZ?
Enable AUTOSAVE
In the OSD
Once youāve set it, launch OSD
Auto save is always a good option to have active in most (all?) cores.
IT WORKED!
I think this configuration works only for one game at time
I did have it on before. but switching it off and on again made a difference
confirmed true.
sad it's gotta be done for each game
oh hang on
looks like: load game, set bios, save, and repeat is my best path forward.
Itās is actually good that it is per game.
Cause each game gets its own save
that's a good reason
oh.
would that mean each instance of bios and the per game save need me to do any sort of save formating?
No need save formatting
update
I fired up Neo Geo Puzzle Bobble ( @green marten mentioned it in a recent video) and after playing the first level of the arcade campaign, i passed the pad to my gf while I made dinner.
she's now being playing it for an hour, I think I found a winner
I am not responsible for addiction forming games š so if you lose her to the Bobble life itās not on me
Its definitely a good one
A worthy sacrifice to bring another Puzzle Bobble fan into the collective!
I have the sudden urge to play also nowā¦

The Neo Geo CD Core has received a number of updates by PaulB-NL for the MiSTer FPGA DE10 NANO recently. Let's check it out together. This is the latest unst...
@spiral orbit it is released state since yesterday
2nd of August. I've been busy at work, but my 24 days off begin today. So I feel like streaming and playing some Neo Geo CD.
I always have fun when streaming
where you order that from pixel
Ali Express is that one
you can see because its the official Store and thats on Ali Express
They have allegedly shipped mine already
although wierdly mine cost £28.91 but in total came out more !
so someone has ripped me off a few pence š
I ordered mine from Amazon.
AliExpress official 8bitdo store
Same, mine came as £33.xx
But charged 34.xx
I checked Amazon UK, and it wasn't there
It's both
if you use their dongle, that is 2.4 though yeah?
Yeah
I should have gone for that lol
the other controller I was gonna get is OOS
the white m30 2.4
oh, the coupon doesn't even apply to that item
I would recommend getting a PC engine 2.4ghz controller if you don't already have one
im not a big pce fan though, it's sort of foreign to me
The neogeo CD version of Last Hope is quite impressive. I think above AES version.
Understandable
by sort of foreign I mean that I am in the USA and had literally never seen one until mister haha
Has a good look and feel to it
In the USA it was Turbo Grafx 16
yeah I was not that savvy, I had a genesis and life was good
this version have a devil mode and more games mode also and it seems less darker than AES version
the DVD bundle with it seems a great addition
THE FEEL NEVER ENDS
So can you default Unibios for every game somehow with the new version?
Read new roms are now woring on neogeo like kof98 ae etc, Are these rom hacks?
to name one which isnt a hack?
well Vliner is an unlicenced game but not a hack of an existing game
Anything new is either unlicenced or a hack
Is the aim to get all hacks running?
No cause some hacks doesnāt work on real hardware
But hacks have been added to work? Was this a special request?
Oh sorry I misread. Some hacks don't work. Apologies.
doing a new NG vid...got an exemption error on Pulstar NGCD at 4X speeds, fine at 2X. Just curious if anyone else had seen that
Neo Geo isnāt a good console
itās an incredible console!

We really pushed the cabinet around to the locations. It took 2 days and we went a total of 8 miles. My brother Josh ...
Yeah, some games requires lower speeds
Same thing with samurai showdown rpg
I keep forgetting what the differences are with the kof2003ps2 romset. Im guessing gameplay balancing or related adjustments made in the PS2 port?
Finally getting around to setting up the NGCD coreā¦I take it that it supports CHD?
yeah games/NeoGeo-CD
update_all with the bios getter will create the correct directory and bios
yep i ran update_all and grabbed the biosā¦also placed romsets.xml in the folder
ah the instructions on github had the under the CD section, but I guess it only applies to the non-Cd games folder
well if you open it you will see it has nothing for the CD
remember some CDs were region locked
also if it doesnt wotk at 4x step back till it does
so what does that mean exactly? does the core now have region settings I may have to adjust depending on the game?
yes
also some are copy protected
so you may need to get the cracked versions
a certain archive has them all
ok gotcha
I presume that the ācrackedā versions available correlate to the games that are protected?
Yes
I was able to play the non cracked versions fine
oh interesting
I thought so as well
I just picked a couple games that were listed under cracked, but I played them from the non cracked folder
So not very scientific
I just compared the lists and grabbed the cracked versions for those games that are cracked and didnāt download the encrypted version of those games
Same here, interesting.
I downloaded both to experiment
Didn't have issues with the couple non cracked I tried
Just wanted to say I appreciate yāall for keeping the gifs light on the on-topic channels. Youāre awesome! š»

New to the neogeo CD. Can anyone explain the CDZ option? Tried to set it as CDZ but it would not load any games unless I also set the unibios to CDZ. Is this expected behavior?
Is there any problem if I set it to CD and 4x and toploader in unibios?
Well a top loader I assumed meant literally just a top loader with no CD, maybe I'm wrong
The toploader is for the top load CD version. The unibios is specific for CDs.
Something is wrong with your setup
you can pick top loader in unibios though
Enable unibios in the OSD
You can have it 4x most of the time, but sometimes some games donāt like that so you need to lower down to maybe 2x (like samurai showdown rpg)
In the unibios settings you can select between top loader and cdz. Select cdz, but you have to enable AUTOSAVE in the OSD to save the settings in the unibios
Whatās the significance selecting between top loader and CDZ?
CDZ at least hardware wise had a faster drive
2x maybe?
but I haven't seen anyone mention if 4x makes it 8x lol
So setting it to CDZ at 2X ensures the best compatibility?
yeah should, although 4x doesn't break many games
So the CDZ option in the OSD is for stock bios only, not unibios?
Yup, and that works. But unibios defaults to toploader so you need to change it to CDZ for each new game.
Yeah that's a new behavior you have to set it and save it each time
Just an FYI since I hadnt gotten around to explaining yet
The KOF98AE/UM issues on the Japan stage are unresolved, because it is an issue with the hack itself, not the core. Not much to be done. This per conversations with Sorg.
The fact that such a weird emulator centric hack works at all is kind of an oddity really
Is there a list of games that aren't working? I can't get standard KOF98 to load at all.
No games are known to not work
you also need to define what you mean by standard
are you meaning a Darksoft Set, A Neo set or a CD. If its CD is it bin/cue or CHD
Also do you have the correct bioses downloaded
The King of Fighters '98 - The Slugfest (Japan) CD. Bios are correct, everything else loads ok. BIN/CUE format
I run it as a CHD without issue
CD type was CD
Bios was Uni Bios
Even works at 4 X speed
Is your Set from a Redump Set ?
Ripped from the original CD, wonder if that's the issue? Are BIN/CUE or CHD preferred?
well CHD is easier ti deal with and smaller
I've always used CHD and never had issues yet with Neo Geo CD.
The Redump Sets are known to work
ripping your own imay or may not work and when it fails its hard to know why
Thanks, I'll try to grab a redump CHD set.
Also home dumped makes it hard to file a bug report because the first thing you will get is does it work with a redump set
There are always issues with home dumps since there are many factors that can impact if it works or not
CHD redump KOF98 works a treat. Ironic that dumping my own discs caused the problem.
Haha, glad you figured it out!
Dumping Neo Geo CD games with a standard drive and/or a standard software don't work well.
I know that in order to do a dump that is accepted by redump you need to use one of a few specific drives, which all seem to be old drives from Japan, and follow very strict rules. I think @patent granite knows the ins and outs. Doing it yourself with the drive you have seems like a recipe to get a bad dump. Always best stick with the ones that are certified to work.
I've got the whole redump CD setup, it is pain in this day and age to get a working plexxie for it
a lot of the ceremony and special drives are centered around repeatability and making sure all the error correction in normal drives doesn't mess with the resulting image and therefore hash
I've had some CDs which on a normal drive dumped fine, but when I went to use my redump setup, suddenly you can see there's sectors that error correction were just zeroing out and creating an imperfect dump
You would probably also want to use a tool like this to verify your dumps if you are trying to rip your own games: https://github.com/normalgamer/RedumpVerifier
dollars to donuts, if you're ripping a CD specifically, you're probably gonna get a different hash with your run of the mill drive
other optical media isn't as special, it's specifically the CD family of garbage that needs the blessed plextors
We had the same problem with PC Engine CD-ROM² games.
yeah MPF/DIC can handle those well.... if you're using a blessed drive :p
The method is being updated in a near future, with easier dumping programs.
As far as I've seen.
superg is working on something with redumper.
I'm somewhat tuned into the efforts, but yeah there's some people trying out there.
whatever comes out won't be redump but it'll be something different
which is fine, redump is kind of running on fumes
oh yeah redumper is now approved for some discs, but seems it is still suggested to use a blessed drive and generic is best effort
Is the Neo Geo CD public? I can't find it.
Oh ok. I thought so. I wasn't sure. Thank you
And CD games go into their own separate folder. Like the TG-16 CD.
Thank you all
Lastly, most games work with 4x CD read speed. But a few don't (like Samurai Shodown RPG). For those games, set it to 2x speed.

so damn good
Has anyone gotten their hands on the 8bitdo controller yet? I've seen a few photos of some popping up on twitter
the CD pad?
I havent gotten a shipping status yet myself
These are the Playstation 2 SNK Neo Geo ports with clean 240p video and arranged music/no load times, upgraded Neo Geo games with more content from Taito Type X hardware (480p) and SNK Atomiswave games (480p).

It's great!
Not gonna lie I kinda want that to play celeste on
I really like the d/thumbpad thingie the neogeo has
I'm famously bad at fighting games, even on a fightstick but I feel semi competent using the dpad on this.
I used a Neo Geo CD pad and PS2 Neo Geo pad for arcade stuff on supergun + pcbs, I liked it a lot
God, my brain is like... take this apart use it to make a mini fight stick with
The thumbstick takes a bit of getting used to, I dont like it for fighters but I love it for other kinds of arcade games. Shmups, beat em ups etc
I really want one but my wife will kill me if I buy another controller at this point lol
My Neo Geo CD controller hasn't shipped yet. Hopefully soon!
I also don't have money which makes the decision easier
How are people getting this early?
I'm in the UK so ordering from Amazon is no good. I've been ordering all my controllers from 8bitdo directly.
Anyone having issues with KoF98 and 99 on CD? Keep getting "Insert CD" message.
So I was today years old when I discovered that each character has two secret win taunts in Garou. Pressing left or right and start at the same time right after a KO but before they do their win pose. Mind blown.
Looking forward to some testimonials on the new Neo Geo CD controller
It arrives yesterday, but i really didn't like it. The "D-pad" is terrible for fighting games. A simple dash or run movement it's hard to do. For casual gaming it's ok, but it's not for people who really knows how to play fighting games.
Lol that's me told.
Did you ever use the original though? I think a lot of people are most interested in how it compares to the OEM versions
Exactly; I want something that replicates the original
I dont like the original for fighting games either, I liked it a lot for non fighting game arcade titles though
One attempt at doing a pretzel for raging storm convinced me it was kinda too awkward for fighting games. But beat em ups, shmups, top down games.. fun fun
Yes, i did, years ago, and it is pretty much the same feeling. 8bitdo did a good job replicating the original, it's just not good for fighting games as I thought it was.
that definitely tracks, I like the pad, but my preferred pad to use for Neo Geo fighting games is still the Saturn pad
Same
I always use an arcade stick for fighting games, so I intend to use the 8bitdo pad for other Neo Geo games.
I have used a similar pad on the Neo Geo X (yes, that crap device). The emulation was horrendous on that thing, but the "stick" on the handheld was a great replica of the Neo Geo CD one.
I honestly have been using the 8bitdo M30 for Street Fighter 6 and it's been working well; I never expected the neo CD to be good for fighters
You want the Japanese version of Battle Coliseum, not the US
The US one has a ton of slowdown introduced on one of the stages for some reason
Also the last blade collection for ps2 has the arranged soundtracks too
Does it have any forced video filters, or clean 240p output?
Been a while since I played it but Iām pretty sure itās like the other collections, no forced filters
Some do randomly have issues, the Samsho collection has forced 480i and blur filter, it cant be turned off strangely
I tried hacking the emulator/interface one time since they all use the same one (except for a handful) but didnt have any success
There is a less well known Sengoku collection for PS2 as well that only came out in France, but the video is completely mangled and awful
Iām not home but I can probably load it up in the next couple days
A PS2 with 1080p video out and a HDD mod would honestly be pretty nice
Doesnt seem like PS2 has any good internal HDMI mods sadly
That sucks, but now I feel like I want to seek it out because that's such an oddly specific release lol
Thanks for compiling the list btw, I need to sit down and set all those up at some point on my ps2
Thats how I felt about it
Then I booted it up and uuugh
There are others I didnt list that just have one problem or another
But those ones have clean 240p output and arranged music
Except the ones that are Taito Type X or Atomiswave ports obviously
Sounds good, I've only ever tried out a few of the PS2 neo geo releases. Mostly just 98UM and Garou, when that was the most accessible way I had to play it on a CRT

I guess this thing is coming out for PS2
But its software paywalled for 1080p and advanced deinterlacing? O_o
Welcome to the future.

Could you pin this please @ocean phoenix
Itās a great list and I value it but itās not specific to the core so Iād like to avoid pinning that type of content. Unless of course the community finds value in it as a whole.
are there issues with kof98?
no
there is only 1 redump image
i know, but redump from earlyer dumps
the latest one all the othere have been replaced
in the past it just was a bin cue
now some games have lots of bins and a cue
so tryed new and older dump
maybe a setting
yep,gona try that
so no messing around with lots of files
Are the core and Main up to date? Do you have the correct BIOS files? Do other games work for you?
Do we have the accepted Neo Geo CD BIOS settings pinned yet?
Maybe with the games that have speed requirement caveats listed too
Looks like we do
yep, latest core, bios from update all and main MISTer also
runned update all an hour ago
so i suspect its upto date then
other games run fine
it will be the image then as KOF98 and its hacks load for me
How much RAM do you have? Probably not the issue but worth checking
and in general you start at 4x and then step backwards until it works
dont assume 4X will work for all
Dual Ram has no advantage for Neo Geo
it has nothing todo with the ram,its probably the image
ram problems probably all games gives problems
but it works now with chd
i don't care if it works with chd or bin cue
I don't know about the CD part, but some AES/MVS require 128mb, but is not the issue here anyway
Just put two chd format Neo Geo CD ROMs on my SD card. The 4x load speed option rocks
Ironclad ran super well, very happy to try it finally
I just played that for the first time the other day and I liked it quite a bit! Definitely going to play it more with an oem ngcd pad
hadn't seen a wii version before
I have 4 of them at home.
Bought brand new when I lived in Japan (early 2010s).
I keep 2 of them unmodded (for the Wii system), and 2 other without the extra buttons + 3D printed covers + Raphnet adapter (for the MiSTer).
They are a little bit lighter than an original and no cracked ball even after the years.
The micro switches are identical from an original, but I'm not pro player.
I had one of these, seemed pretty comparable to the neo geo cd pads I had at the time as well.
Nice!
I didn't wanted to change the buttons colors personally.
That could be worse. š
lol Iām kidding, Iām sure the newer controllers are way better than the cracked balltops I got up there
Anybody have thoughts on the old jellybean sticks for Neo Geo?
I had 2 when I had an AES in the 00s. I thought they were allright, but the small base wasnt great
I have the stick that came with the Neo Geo X. Feels like a cheap replica, but I haven't used an original Neo Geo stick, so no idea.
well I sure am glad I "release day pre ordered" my 8bitdo neogeo pad...
lol mine just got updated to saying itāll be delivered Thursday, yeaaaaaah right
oof
This is what mine says
I got mine earlier this week. If you've ever used the original ones it feels exactly the same
for better or worse
Ohhhhhh I get your name now
as long as your username or channel name doesn't begin with retro; we're good.
I updated using update-all now non of my Neo Geo games work. I just get a blue screen any time I try to load up a rom set. Any suggestions?
What roms?
.neo or darksoft?
Is your mister main updated?
Do you have bios?
All of my roms are in zips. Yeah they used to run fine before this latest update.
Then I guess they are darksoft
Maybe so š¤·āāļø
You have to verify that they are darksoft
Or just use the .neo files
You can find them in htgdb pack in a certain archive website
If the roms were working before it'd be weird for them all to break, maybe it's a bios thing?
@elfin mica what you could do is to enable bios getter in update_all to fetch the bios that you need
I can see on your picture that you donāt have all bios files required
Ah ok, yeah I'll give that a shot. I didn't know that was an option. Thanks.
I was thinking of a rebrand to "Retro Pixel Cherry Coconut Ninja Nerd' š
I should create a channel called Polygon Raspberry Samurai. It's a completely original name that is not inspired by anything at all I swear!
That's brilliant, š
Having same issue with redump bin/cue. CHD is working
Its strange,for others it works
I love this question because I grabbed darksoft and converted them to .neo lol
Let's see just how much better those load times were with the Neo Geo CDZ vs. the original top loader.

Watch this and be glad the ngcd core exists ..
4X loading is the game changer that system needed
Hope the SSRPG translation comes out soon :)
Amen brother
Nio jio see dee zet
Ha, I literally just finished watching this. And yeah, the 4x loading of the MiSTer core even blows the CDZ away. It even makes KoF playable.
This is probably the perfect example where the fpga core makes the original hardware obsolete ..
It also benefits people who want to collect the consoles and the games by decreasing demand for OG hardware
Pretty much. It's honestly crazy just how much of an improvement it is with loading. I don't know if I'll ever play the AES/MVS version of Neo Turf Masters ever again.
So 8bitdo Neo Geo controller confirmed to work in all three modes?
On MiSTer you will probably struggle to find a controller that doesn't work with USB or BT.
I know but just checking š
we should make a list of what does not work. way shorter and easier.
also a good idea
For whatever reason I have to change the drive to open for games to load. I mean it works fine but, not sure why it doesn't detect anything when the drive is set to closed
I too had this thought, and I too hope it arrives before she gets home
I had a neogeo cdz 20 yrs ago
It was an improvement, but not enough for massive games
At this moment... thinking in cold...
Is better to invest in a MiSTer FPGA than in a teal AES and CS systems.
I noticed also with unibios the lid is flipped in the settings
What does that mean?
Controllers arrived. 2x. Will tear one down tomorrow on camera for a Friday video. First impressions; high quality plastics, buttons feel nice, shoulders feel ādecentā, micro switches are appropriately clicky
Seems to flow smoothly from single N/S/E/W switches to corners activating two switches at once
Plastics on the thumb stick are a bit slippery to me. Almost like it needs more texture. Might be a good candidate for a bit of roughing up with sandpaper
Will put it through its paces tomorrow on Neo Geo / other arcade cores on MiSTer and via Windows MAME / FB Neo emulation to see how it works on PC
Funnily enough the surface of the stick is way rougher than my old CD pad, which has become shiny with age and use
Oh absolutely they get so worn down
Iām not even going to bother to compare it to a real CD pad. Things have two decades plus of use on them. Effectively impossible to compare the button feel to a new in box recreation
Yeah, canāt really account for age unfortunately
Exactly. Plus Iāve repaired my cd pads. Not even all OG parts any more
I posted some small clips comparing to mine at least: #controllers message
The main difference I would say is the looseness of the new pad in neutral (I wouldāve the expected the old pad to be looser due to age)
And the yeah the motion seems more square in the new pad
Still really like it though, itās a great pad
I've decided to get either an original Neo Geo CD pad, or the PS2 digital version. I had both years ago and remember them being comparable, so I guess its just a matter of how many buttons I want.
I did feel that. Bit more float. Iāll test them with MiSTer tomorrow
Tear down should be fun. Hope I donāt break it. Hence why I bought two lol
Nice, keen to hear your thoughts in more detail š
I would actually recommend against the original CD pad due to the tendency for the switches to just stop working - thereās a great repair kit out their from Laser Bear, but then yeah youāve got to go to the effort and the switches may not feel quite the same after
Maybe the PS2 version is better in that regard, I donāt know
My CD pad still works at least, but for how long who knowsā¦
Second this. Fixing the pad is more trouble than itās worth
And it doesnāt feel the same
May as well get the PS2 one I guess. Since its digital only Id imagine it would work with a daemonbite PSX adapter
Oh NM, there isnt one of those adapters actually being sold anywhere
Raphnet would be the one to get for now, or wait for MisterAddons Reflex adaptor
If you donāt want to go the DIY route
Raphnet is 4ms, in theory thats worse but honestly I dont know if I would ever notice it
@green marten would you consider getting one of these
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/404252865902?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=25rG0iA5TfS&sssrc=4429486&ssuid=U6sKym6HSWC&var=&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY
for the sake of comparison
it might just be the dark horse winner of any comparison between all the neogeo controllers
I'm quite the fan
Never tried it
Sure is cheaper than any of the Neo Geo CD pad solutions
and the face buttons are microswitched!
Mine ended up delayed as well and I ordered from Amazon as soon as I saw the news.
Benefit is (assuming neobt adapters are ever available) it is still cheaper than getting an original.
I ended up importing two of these last year and they are great. However, if I'm being honest, I think I prefer the PS3 PDP VS pad. Even considering you have to remove the broken down rubber coating. Especially for the price.
These are absolutely fantastic. Bought 4 of them over the last two years. Thinking of getting more, just for spares.
My cheap pdp controllers are the only thing holding me back from dropping $40 on the neo geo controller, would love to see someone do a comparison. They feel pretty nice and they have the 6 button layout.
I own the NGM controllers, PS3 PDP VS, and as of today the new 8bitdo Neo Geo pads. Of the three, I prefer the 8bitdo ones, but the PS3 PDP VS is still a really great option.
As far as how they compare to an original Neo Geo CD pad, I have no idea. Never seen/used one of those before
I have the PS2 Neo Geo CD Pads, the new 8bitdo ones, and the PS3 PDP VS. Keeping in mind that I only use controllers wired. Overall, for actual game play, I would tend to favor the PS3 PDP VS. I would put the PS2 pad over the 8bitdo, ONLY, because of the 6 face buttons. All that being said. The 8bitdo ones seem really solid and I don't regret the purchase at all.
Thanks, Iām sure Iām going to pick one up eventually, but itās nice to know what to expect. I should probably pick up more of the pdp pads at some point too.
Dang it Amazon, why you not ship my controller yet?
@fringe ingot finished my testing and tear down. 10/10 IMO. Great for NG / NGCD, loved it on Esp ra de and Pro Gear. Hate it for Capcom fighters but thats due to the shoulder buttons and no fault of the pad
only issue is the shoulder button internal construction. On a floating PCB bare wired to the board and pushing the button you can see it moving. I have suspicions that will be a weak point in the future. Super easy to reflow the solder but its not exactly SOLID in there
stick does wiggle a bit more than a real pad but I have zero issues with it
construction of the plastics is high quality. Button molds are thick and sturdy. Good membranes. Excellent response. Pulling off specials in MotW and Matrimelee no issue and got through the first levels of Esp Ra De and Pro Gear no deaths on hard. If it can do that...I am sold
Nice, yeah I quite like it for shooters also. Totally agree itās a fantastic controller
Thanks for the analysis! Can't wait for mine to arrive. Now if only Amazon would ship it...
It's a word by word spanish expression... LOL "pensƔndolo friamente"
I figured out my issue with the newest core. The update overwrote my romsets.xml and I was using a gog specific one.

Sometimes a surprise just falls out of the sky and into your lap...and 8BitDo announced and released a brand new Neo Geo CD pad compatible with Windows 10, The Neo Geo Mini, Android...and while they don't advertise it...it also works PERFECTLY with MiSTer FPGA on all cores...but mo...
disappointed no lets listen to the clicky joystick for 30 seconds in this video. I thought the 30 secs of listening to music was your trademark!
its also 8bit DO ! not 8bitDOE !
Now I will have to destroy that Prototype M2 with every M2 game !
lol I tried. Didnt register much

rescue me from myself lol
At least you cleaned your nails
you get my nails how you get them. A lot of times its because I am soldering / cleaning boards along with the vids
well mine is in the Netherlands for some reason its taken a 4 day Holiday there before travelling to the UK
LMAO holy shit I love snarky @forest bloom. I mean helpful Tim is pretty good too but snarky Tim is like 10/10 comedy.
lol as long as he isnt the person sending me threat emails about my nails
because someone has
like, seriously
No Threats from me !
Seriously
the hell is wrong with people
š¤·š»āāļø Iām still alive. They havenāt followed through yet š¤£
Put yourself out there and the death threats are inevitable it seems
I donāt understand how you can be angry with random strangers over the most insignificant thing.
Too much free time, or mental issues I guess
100%
Im feeling a little more confident about the stick quality after that video
The only thing we canāt know yet is long term reliability. But short of that I say get one
I was thinking the same thing. I dont think Id be using it every day so it would probably last a while, my use case would be non fighting arcade cores or arcade ports to consoles
Yes. Like I said in the vidā¦Iāll use it for when I donāt want to drag by but stick out. Which means my use will be moderate at best
The luddite in me wants a thicker USBC cable to go from it to my MiSTer potentially though lol
Awbacon's next video is going to be clicky stick ASMR.
Weird that KOF 97 variants were chosen for the alt designs. I wonder if that was for the Chinese market
Blazing Star isā¦tough
Good music in that game
Yeah, love the graphics too.
Does anyone who plays a lot of fighters like the new 8bitdo pad? Is that stick good for fighting?
Also, does anyone know what the standard button layout was for the different MVS types?
I have the new 8bitdo pad, and the OG CD pad, but I kind of prefer the Saturn pad for fighters
Seems that 3/4 of the reviews are "this controller is great but not for fighting games"
then a few people that are like "this controller is great for fighting games!" lol
I personally think they're good for fighters as long as they're not 6 button layout. The stick works great in my experience.
It for sure works well, itās just not my preference over a Saturn pad
Theres always the PS2 digital Neo Geo pad and a raphnet (or hand built) daemonbite USB adapter if you think $80 for one to get 6 face buttons is worth it I guess
I usually use an arcade stick regardless, but I can see using it for SNK fighters every now and then. I personally plan on using it for shmups a lot.
Thatās pretty much what Iāve been using it for exclusively and itās really nice for that
Ive decided to get one of the 8bitdo ones, and run it wired to MiSTer with a thicker USBC to A cable to keep my luddite complaints from springing up
Oh wait, there hasnt been any lag testing yet has there
lag is the testing we found along the way, think about it
I will not think about your nothingburger
8bitdo lag is like a box of chocolates
Sometimes you get nuts, sometimes you get some weird chemical and sometimes those shitty peanut brittle covered in tar ones
Sounds like a good reason to wait
I've already got a stick and I like those for shooters so wasn't planning on picking the controller up but wanted to hear how it was.
I need to find a better NGCD set. Have a ton still not loading correctly
Has anyone ever had audio issues with Zed Blade/Operation Ragnarok? I asked about this in a few of the relevant places a couple of years ago and was generally met with bafflement and suspicion (largely as nobody else had mentioned it), but the title screen music can burst in during the stages, seemingly at random. It has done this for me across multiple builds of the core and still does it on some of the latest unstable ones. Could it be something specific to my Mister? (The construction isn't unusual - DE10 Nano, analog I/O board, USB hub, etc)
Thanks!
Have you tried with the latest Neo Geo core?
Yeah, with the latest official build from about 3 weeks ago, as well as with a few unstables. I haven't seen it on the main release yet, but as I don't know what the conditions are I can't try to replicate it. It just seems to happen whenever
I'll keep playing it on the official release though!
What do you mean by main release?
The core has been rewritten to be synchronous now with many fixes by Sorg and Paulb-nl
It would be good if you try with the latest release and see if you could perhaps recreate it
By main release I just meant the latest release on Sorgelig's github (as opposed to the unstable ones I frequently test out). I'll keep using it and see what happens. I'm mostly just interested to see if anyone else has seen or heard about the issue. It's quite frequent for me but doesn't seem to affect anyone else, thus far
Sorry, just for clarity I'm currently testing this on the latest Mister build as well as the latest Neo build. All good so far!
Amazon still hasn't shipped my 8bitdo Neo Geo CD controller! Why have you foresaken me Amazon!?
Still??
Good
Mine are supposedly arriving today by 10, and I ordered super early. Granted, they donāt even list as shipped so I bet they are going to be delayed again.
Mine came today and has joined the Pile of Controllers I probably wont get around to unwrapping
hah, Amazon just sent me āyour order is delayed, do you still want it?ā email
love it
for a ārelease day preorderā you would think they could at least throw something in for how abysmal this is
meh, I donāt care that much. Just a bit frustrated
be nice to use with the neo core, but I still need some neobts to get back in stock before I really get upset
I placed my preorder on the day they went up on Amazon. Me no happy!
I got mine directly from the Ali Express 8BitDo Store
if it hadnt taken a 4 day Holiday in the Netherlands I could have had it at the weekend
can NGCD games be zipped or do they need to be in directories unzipped?
Just use CHD format and put them in folders.
all I can find is bin & cue, is CHD something else?
yes. You can convert them from bin/cue to chd, or find the CHD set that is out there. CHD is losslessly compressed audio in flac format. Saves about 50% size.
Chdman is the tool you want I believe, or just search for "neo geo CD chd" in the usual places
yeah, ali express orders were arriving early, which is a bit of extra salt
thanks guys
sorry you said salt and I finally had my chance to use that sticker
haha
Iām also annoyed that Amazon canāt ship them lol
I would like to ask if anyone has found an actual 1G1R set there for NGCD that works. Not asking for sets, just want to know if there is one that has successfully worked. Tried a few but all have things that dont work.
Which doesnāt work?
I do have replacements that work. It had a 13XXXX set that had issues with many images. Multiple KOF's ,AFO3, Sam's ETC. Then found another set that had issues with others. š¦ - That being said, I was just curious if a true set that works with MiSTer was out there.
You tried the chd set?
I think 13's was Bin/Cue
I tried a bunch of chd set snd they seem to work. I forgot which 13xx I tried but Iāll look again
Just polishing it up so I can have it ready for my new 8bitdo controller š
I grabbed a CHD set that works, just need to strip it down. Was just shocked that the 1G1R scene was so thin out there with NGCD. Although, it is very niche and thought to be redundant by most anyways. I guessing the calling for attention is way down the list.
I didnāt even know there was a 1g1r of ngcd
I try to grab those when possible. Maybe we can make it a Kubbie MiSTer Exclusive! š
Lol Iād be honored
NGCD has much wider variety of game genres than NG, I'm really enjoying the library
Decided to get the "premium" option for Neo Geo pads
Daemonbite digital PSX adapter will be used
Enjoy! I ordered one recently and feel like a kid waiting for santa
I will use it precisely once and go back to a stick, but I like the idea of being able to use it on so many consoles with low-lag adapter options etc
Kind of tempted to get one just to complete the unholy trinity of CD pads
Yes Iām ignoring the Neo Geo Mini pad that they completely bungled the stick on
Heh, how were those actually constructed? I know they've never seen a microswitch in their lives but what do they have instead? A cheap, flat analog stick?
Iirc yep, just a cheap analog stick
Also, get one for the tasteful Jewelry
good lord those prices
Yeahā¦maybe I wonāt do that after allā¦
Yeah Iāve used proxies to buy from Yahoo Auctions before, the prices on some things can still be a bit silly though
Depends what you want
got some links for you
https://buyee.jp/item/yahoo/auction/1103394716
a couple different good cheap controllers.
if you wanted to go a little wild and still beat western prices by a considerable margin
could even keep all the controllers and sell the hardware
are the japan prices different because they just sold more and thus have more in circulation?
Haha, already have a CDZ and CD controller, just looking at the PS2 controller
Maybe my search terms are bad, but the prices Iām seeing for those on YA are still bananas
Not that I was probably going to get one anyway, but looking is fun
digital window shopping
even on mercari the sold prices are kind of variable but not cheap
I guess less bonkers than what's currently on YAJ, yikes
there's also less of a "collector" mentality in Japan
My wallet cries, my heart sings
That NGCD and controller bundle is going for the price of a single pad over here. I can't afford it, but I feel like I shouldn't let it slip away
I've been thinking about getting this controller and testing it https://www.8bitdo.com/neogeo-wireless-controller/ - perhaps wired up it'd work or with the 8bitdo dongle I have
A perfect recreation of the original SNK NEOGEO controller. For the first time.We spent 3 years redesigning in house from the ground up.Featuring the iconic classic click-style joystick.Bluetooth. 2.4G. Wired.
Just saw that actually ;)
oh yeah? well hellz why buy off the 3rd party market?! 8bitdo rules
i guess unless you're a purest or something
we don't have lag test results yet last time I checked
We do actually, itās up on the spreadsheet
@zinc rampart have you tried their arcade controller?
no, I don't have that one
these aren't bad numbers, but looks like I should be playing with the 2.4ghz dangle instead of wired
what're your goto games on neogeo?
Yeah was about to mention, wired results were a little odd
But Iāve been using it 2.4ghz anyway so not a huge deal
metal slug games ofc, magical drop, pulstar
ah i see, i figured with you looking at lag so closely you were playing more of the fighting games
Puzzle Bobble
I wanna say this isn't the first time we've seen results where wireless is faster, but I can't remember what I'm thinking of
Switch controllers maybe? They all are slower wired than wireless
ah yeah maybe
I just like to know what I'm dealing with and to be informed when talking with people who care about lag
nothing wrong with staying informed ;)
it's also the principal of it, controllers should be such simple devices in theory, especially when wired, ie just connect a circuit and maybe latch the state, they really shouldn't have like >10ms lag or whatever
it just seems negligent
i don't hang out here often, but I have a sudden sense of feeling like I'm with my people now, thanks for that lol
They should of put ngc together. Worked on both so it loads both.
Like the GB core. Loads both.
Whatever will put it in eventually.
NG is in. What is important.
neogeo cd and neogeo are in the same core
I think you just put CD games in its own folder
Yeah, Neo Geo CD is handled the same way Turbografx CD games are. All in one core, but a separate folder for the CD games.
Thanks for sharing these! Interesting that 2.4 is faster than wired. š
the spreadsheet for that any many other controllers is here if you're interested https://rpubs.com/misteraddons/inputlatency
this is not premium, this is blasphemy.
:(
What Seimitsu joysticks were most prevalent on the Japanese cabinets? LS-32?
Yeah, that's the one
They're definitely great all-rounders too - I love 'em for shmups and fighting games
Sorry, I was thinking of candy cabs in general - I think the LS-40 was more common in Neo cabs
Quick Google suggests so!
Apart from when I was a child visiting UK seasides I haven't played on an official Neo cab, just candies with MVS or CMVS hardware in 'em, and auto game-switching buttons etc
Yes, the LS-40 is what I came upon as well.
Supposedly they were a lot better when they came with Panasonic switches.
They seem to be discontinued now, so it is what it is. Guess I might try them anyway (or perhaps the LSQ-40).
It's not like I have any experience in the arcade, so I've got no frame of reference for me to say that something isn't right because the actuation doesn't feel like how it was in the good old days.
Oh for sure, there are plenty of great sticks that can get the job done, and the differences between the Seimitsu models aren't vast enough to disqualify any of them. If you like the 32 you'll be fine with any of the others (although in my experience the 56 can come with a very heavy-gauge spring. My current one is fine, however...)
And certainly any modern home arcade stick is very different from what you would have got with an AES, heh. I enjoy using both period-accurate controllers and more modern fare - experimenting with different setups for different games is all part of the fun!
So I noticed that if I ordered one of the Neo Geo CD controllers from Amazon now, it would ship and arrive by tomorrow. Even though my existing order, that I preordered almost two months ago from Amazon, isn't scheduled to arrive until August 30th. So I just canceled that one, and placed a new order. The new order is scheduled to arrive by 11am tomorrow already. Because Amazon gonna Amazon.
My blasphemy pad has not yet shipped from Japan
Mine came in earlier today via UPS
And of course all my free time from earlier in the week has evaporated
They're worth the wait. Imported two last year. I just missed an auction for the PS3 USB version ;-/
Hows the lag on the ps3 version?
they are beautiful and feel extremely good to use. with the dongle there isn't any noticeable latency at all.
Those are the non blasphemy usb controllers though, I was asking about latency on the ps3 usb blasphemy controller
hang on, if the PS2 pad is blasphemy surely these are deicide...
Doesnt seem to be on pork's lag measurement site
I havent checked prices on the ps3 ones either though
I imagine they're even more expensive than the PS2 version, if only because I've never seen one available
I cant even find one for sale, they must be unicorns
yeah, I've only ever heard people commenting on how rare they are - nobody has one to say much about the things themselves :p
I didn't get the PS3 version yet, unfortunately. I've been pleased with the PS2 versions though. I don't have numbers/data for you, sadly.
I've only see one for sale once, earlier this week on Yahoo Auctions. I meant to grab it but got distracted and missed it. I think it sold for around $200 USD.
I still don't understand why it's blasphemous - the 6-button fightpad layout? Those are pretty trad, just not Neo
No idea lol, because Neogeo666 says so i guess
Good enough for me
neogeo fanboys having opinions on input devices?
batty no know. batty only pawn in game of life.
My controller finally arrived! Huzzah!
@patent granite let's fuckin' gooooooooo
https://youtu.be/EAZnHJ9-0EA?si=Us0jmBUTsfWgvqrH
I'll try it on the PS2 first but I have a couple from years ago. One is this, which is apparently really good:
https://www.play-asia.com/pc-joybox-3in1/13/701hv
PC Joybox 3in1 for WindowsPC Joybox 3in1 ConverterUse PSā¢/PS2⢠Pads on your PCUse Dreamcast⢠Pads on your PCUse Saturn⢠Pads on your PCCompatible with Windows XP, 2000, 98 and 95Connects through the PC USB portWith the PC Magic Box you can use your favourite PlayStation, PlayStation2, Dreamcast or Saturn controller on your PC. Play PC games with...
Oh cool, does it have a lag rating?
The other is this delightfully spartan thing which will either be the best or the worst ever
Sorry, didn't realise it was dusty
I haven't seen a lag rating for it, but I used it for years in the 2000s without issue, and I've since seen a few shmup heads talking it up. I guess I'll just have to try it!
Interesting
If they're both bad I'll see if Brook do a good one (I have their UFB and Retro boards but I can't remember all the converters...)
Blasphemy ftw
I wish there was a lag testing program for pc that just had you tap a button and went "ayup, 3 frames"
I think the lag measurements are taken on an average, pork would have to explain
yeah I bet
I called in a favor to have a daemonbite PSX digital adapter built so I wont be up and running nearly as quick
Sounds amazing, will those be on general sale at any point?
The commit is in mickguyvers github but not pushed, we will see what happens lol
Ace. I'd love one of those, although I do already have a snac adapter
https://misterfpga.co.uk/product/mister-snac-playstation-psx-adapter/
Tested my Neo Geo CD controller. Good stuff so far. Did a play through of Blazing Star and a bit of Pulstar.
Lets play Neo Geo Again š„µ
@patent granite I've only had time for 10 mins on Pulstar today but my completely unscientific vibes-based analysis is that the cheap-looking CONVERTER is essentially lagless. I'm playing on CRT and the response feels as good as when I'm using a stick with the Brook UFB installed.
You're going to adore the pad, BTW. This one's in barely-used condition so the switches feel brand new, but I imagine it's just as nice when they're slightly more broken in, too
I am excite
I was expecting the engage and throw distances to be huge (which would have been fine) but it feels surprisingly tight and immediate
The face buttons are noticeably smaller and in the PS colour scheme, which is perhaps blasphemous
The 8bitdo one is available in the UK again at £30, so I may get one - it was the extra £25 in shipping costs that initially made me cancel
BTW, my memory card on Mister seems to require formatting every time I play, and the core isn't saving my system type choices and bios settings any more. What have I messed up?
Nor the CD region and speed settings etc
It can save my position in a game for the duration of the session, but I only play single-credit runs - I want it to save scores, really
Iām seeing āUsually dispatched within 1 to 2 monthsā donāt know if I should go for it or notā¦ā¦
Sorry, yeah, my shipping window is 8th - 29th Sep, but I can wait tbh
No need to apologise, I wouldnāt have known they were up at all if you hadnāt mentioned it!
Hehe, also Amazon.com weren't necessarily going to get it here any quicker, so the higher shipping costs wouldn't have been worth it
I just snagged one with a tribute64 controller too, will be fun to try them out. My GF canāt stand the micro switch clicking on arcade sticks, sheās going to absolutely loathe listening to me play on this too!
Haha, I've actually just thrown a silent Qanba lever into one of my sticks to reduce the noise at night. Now it's as quiet as a pad, although it feels a little mushier than any arcade-standard stick
The pad's switches aren't very loud, but anyone trying to sleep in the same room might disagree
hello, qq: was the core tested with a SMB share? the neo geo one is the only one that wouldn't work for me and it works fine if I'm using sdcard/usb?
core works fine via SMB
it's slow the first time you try to pull up the list, but it works.
Thanks, will check that everything is set correctly from my side.
I have exactly the same problem, however NGCD doesn't seem to pose this problem. Maybe I need to revisit the NG roms from SMB again too.
neo geo required a weird permission or setting on my NAS if I recall correctly
I can give it a try in a bit, I too have all of my Neo GeoCD images on my NAS and working at least
#mister-debug message
Allow using open file handles that can withstand short disconnections. Support for POSIX byte-range locks in Samba is also disabled. This option is not recommended when configuring multi-protocol or local access to files.
for some reason the NeoGeo core triggers this and I spent a lot of time way back when trying to figure out wtf happened
#mister-debug message starts here actually
Yeah, something about Opportunictic Locks on SMB v2 iirc
short lived reads, but perhaps different NAS vendors have different terms. Either way, the two links above oughta help
Yeah, I made a bug report on it
in which repo, main mister or neogeo?
But it could not be reproduced and Sorg said SMB was not officially supported so it got dropped
neogeo, I thinkm, it was about a year or 2 ago
But
The curious thing was, it was only when I mounted the SMB share as a share containing the "games" folder
and only for NeoGeo
it I renamed the folder on the SMB share to "games-lan" the problem does not occur, which is how I still have it today
oh
yeah, me too
bizarre
Indeed
Every other core worked fine, no issues at all, just the NeoGeo core had problems. eventhough the folder contents was identical to the /media/fat/games folder
But then again, Furrtek never really bothered to iron out bugs on this core. Thankfully others like Sorgelig and paulb-nl recently ironed out a lot of bugs
Don't get me wrong though Furrtek is an amazing wizard, godlike decapping and demystifying chips etc.
whoah, it actually is messed up for me as well, with or without that option selected for my share (I use TrueNAS as well)
Core or Scale?
core
I am on scale, but I don't recall if I was on core or scale yet last year when I posted
here are all of my share parameters
wide links and symlinks you can ignore, I use that because my mister share is just all symlinks to other places
yeah, was about to ask what your other options look like, mine are the same
strict sync = no gives like a 5x network improvement in speed
especially in cores like ao486
that is a write speed thing though, not read
yeah, I don't have that, maybe I should, but doesn't sound like it will help in this case
I wonder if it's really just a network and/or disk speed issue...
literally every other core worked over SMB except neogeo
yeah this is the first time I've hit an issue - not that it's a big deal, I have my Neo Geo games on the SD card normally anyway, it's really only large disk images that I was hosting on my NAS
but that's really strange
I think you were right as well, it's an issue with loading the bios from the share, not the games themselves - if I load the game from the SD card but the bios from the share still the same problem
I have a branch of MiSTer main that will let me test the reverse, bios on SD and game on share, willing to bet it will work fine that way
yes, it was a bios loading thing
try toggling and untoggling the durable handles setting
maybe it just needs to be set again and have SMB restarted
no dice, even after restarting the SMB service
whoah ok the neo geo has its own special file loading code, very cool
I'm wondering if we could ever get link cable support for riding hero, league bowling, and thrash rally. Would be kinda neat to hook up two MiSTers....
It's fun playing the Neo Geo CD core with 8BitDo's new controller
Robby has joined the thumbstick gang
not as cool as yours but I'm ok with plebe casual controller!
Mine wont be here for like, a week or two and then wizzo has to build the daemonbite adapter and ship that from also across the pacific so Ill be the last horse crossing the finish line
doh, @fallen beacon, false alarm:
FileOpenEx(open) File:/media/fat/cifs/games/NEOGEO/000-lo.lo, error: No such file or directory.
even though I could swear I copied the entire directory, it somehow missed that file
so it turns out that no, I could never repro the issue
There is nobody left here who doesn't have one.
I don't š¦
Nor do I because Im not a weenie. Im a hot dog who ordered the expensive premium version
But you have it in spirit because the order has been placed! It counts!
You don't exist.
I literally bought one yesterday and it showed up today. Feels really good so far
Now I can get angry at my terrible neo turf masters skills in style
Anyone who doesn't love Neo Turf Masters simply hasn't played it. Greatest golf game ever!
It's funny, absolutely hate golf in real life but give me Neo Turf Masters or Mario Golf and I get obsessed lol
So much fun to play
Watching golf is also boring as all hell. But yeah, a good golf game is just pure addiction.
Don't kick yourself
https://youtu.be/REpz6rAXwv4?si=Smq-pOYpkC9Cd0Oa
Young Geese, Mr Karate, Rugal and all of those other losers have nothing on this guy
Dull sports have had a good run in video games. Fisherman's Bait 2 is very dear to my heart
I wish I was good enough to hit the pin lol
I cannot get the latest Neo Geo/Neo CD core to see the my Neo Geo CD games. Is there something I can check for?
Games need to be in the NeoGeo-CD folder
Oh, damn. Thatās about all my knowledge then. Sorry Iām not able to help.
Actually you did help me because my CD folder was named NEOGEO-CD instead of NeoGeo-CD
ah, the old case-sensitive file system gotcha
Oh man, ok Iām happy I could help although indirectly haha.
You figured it out though, all credit to you!
@ocean phoenix thank you. I can't believe it was so simple
Robby accidentally helping someone? Classic Robby!
I'm guessing it only works with the PSX core
Depends on how you interface it
With SNAC, certainly
Over a USB adapter, it works with whatever core you wish
Congrats on it getting here. How are you liking it?
The switches are all in good condition, the buttons as well, it seems like it was treated well before coming to me. Im waiting on my USB adapter for MiSTer use
I like this pad Batty
I think Ill like it for non fighting arcade cores, I used Neo Geo CD pads with my supergun years ago so its a familiar feel
awesome!
I'm working on a Pulstar 1CC with it at the moment. I find that (as with an arcade stick) it makes tap-dodges really easy and cuts out the mistakes that can crop up on a normal d-pad
for me at least
Excellent. Im looking forward to getting my usb adapter and joining the fun
Agreed. I've been testing it on my MiSTer and Steam Deck with shmups and it is one of the best controllers I've ever used for the genre.
Did a round of CD Neo Turf Masters tonight. Just the USA course. Got first place. Good times.
ā³
The 8BitDo one?
Iām not the biggest fan of that new NG padās D-pad. Thereās a bit more travel and resistance before it actuates compared to an original pad. It causes the thumb stick to slip a little. Itās reviewing favorably with everyone though so maybe I got a crap one? I like the stick on the PDP Versus much better in this regard.
Yeah, it's excellent.
I'm gonna work on an insert to reduce travel distance
Damn I love that game but I suck so hard
I get ridiculously last lol
Keep at it! You'll improve with time. But yeah, even having a bad round is still fun in Neo Turf Masters. Arguably the best golf game ever made. Only other one I had nearly as much fun with in the past was Mario Golf on the N64.
Mario golf for Gamecube is my favorite
Does anybody else have one trigger that kind of clicks louder than the other?
Or did I goof it up when I reassembled
I could swear my up trigger sounded slightly different out of the box, otherwise not noticeably, no
Up trigger?
oh sorry somehow my brain swapped switch and trigger there, even as I typed it myself lol
um, no in that case, they sound the same on both sides
Dang
Guess I need to take it apart again lol
They seemed like there wasn't much room for stuff to shift so not sure why one would sound different
I am just throwing this in the room. Is ot me or does it look that jotego is delaying the NG Pocket core on purpose? I smell some agreement with analogue on this....
I suppose anything is possible, but I honestly doubt that's the case. Jotego just seems to jump around a lot between cores in development.
Lol that is not the case
He has a developer fixing bugs
You can track them here
We will see. If it launches the beta after of at the same time as the cartridge adapters it would be pretty obvious.
I mean, all his cores are like that
theyre WIP for forever cause he has like 12 projects going concurrently
Is there any way to play Neo Turf Masters online multiplayer, besides Retroarch? Obviously not on MiSTer
Fightcade
oh?
Pretty good way to play a lot of arcade and console games online multiplayer
dang I need to snag that, for PC I assume?
Yes
yaaay thank you š
Yeah, pretty sure there isnāt an agreement. I think the rumor is that the spiritualized cores are by analogue? No source is shared and jotego has posted https://github.com/spiritualized1997/openFPGA-Genesis/issues/12
Are most of the ngcd games identical to the aes version? Or do all cd versions have superior sound. I'm trying to avoid doubling up on games if there is no benefit from a CD version.
NGCD Exclusive Games: (with some having AES/MVS conversions)
-ADK World / ADK Special
-Crossed Swords 2
-Ironclad / Chotetsu Bri'kinger
-King of Fighters '96 Collection
-Mahjong Final Romance 2
-Neo Geo CD Special
-Samurai Shodown RPG
-Zintrick / Oshidashi Zentrix
NGCD Exclusive Content:
Thank you most helpful.
hey quick question for the metal slug games i noticed the blood comes up white so i'm guessing they're censored, is there a way to change the region for the neo geo so it shows up japan and brings it back to the normal red color?
aaaaah yes thats what i wanted - i knew there was a way thank you!
No problem
the white blood breaks my immersion
anyone have a save file for neo turf masters CD with the scotland course unlocked?
you can just use the cheat menu
To access Scotland, on the course select screen input 41236 D (half circle from left to right, then D). or you can do the cheat too
lol I kind of forget the unibios has cheats built in, I'll have to remember that next time I boot it up
It doesn't save it unlocked does it? I unlocked it previously, and it seems you have to re-unlock it every time you boot the game.
yeah apparently the normal way to unlock is to beat one of the extra modes, like 4 different challenges in it. forget which one
I just used a cheat
I downloaded a modified sram file here and it doesnt seem to be the same type that mister uses: https://www.arcade-projects.com/threads/neo-turf-masters-cd-scotland-unlock-patch.17334/
Hey everyone,
Ever find the Scotland unlock code on Neo Turf Masters (Neo Geo CD version) annoying to trigger, or are you forgetful like I am and can never remember the (easy) code?
Well, I took some time to make a patch so Scotland is unlocked by default!
No longer do you have to beat all...
ah okay both of these seem pretty easy. unibios ftw
JFC that's a nasty course.... I love it. I just played a few holes (well, the same two twice because I kept bogying them).
Just gonna make this my profile pic....
@full raven could you please verify ninja commando? There are flickering and tearing which I havenāt seen before
I love that Neo Turf Masters has a nice following here. Such an amazing game.
It has such a nice presentation and charm while still being a fast and fun golf game. It's a masterpiece.
I like how it lures you in then it's hard as balls and makes you rage
And it has such great rage visuals for the characters!
do you refer to these graphic flicker in the upper screen ?
is it...
like the scenario and the sprite flicker ?
real hardware has these issues
but
i don't know if they are worst in Mister
I think I tested that and they behave same in AES
but

Check this video as they are playing on OG Hardware
Thank you, will check
Itās not the best video.. but perhaps you can zoom it. š¤
Yeah the visual glitches are there
Do you folks rate the Neo Geo: A Visual History book? I'm trying to ascertain if it's purely a wikipedia-level coffee table thing or if I'll actually learn something
Haven't read it but I'm sure it's got both covered in spades.
Is it possible to generate mdfourier result from the neo geo core already?
It's a nice coffee table book. You won't learn anything new that isn't out there now, as the book is a few years old. The highlight is really the photos and artwork reproduction.
If you're a NG fan, it's a good purchase.
Cheers! I figured as much - will probably pick a copy up soon š
It should be, for both AES/MVS and NGCD, but I don't think anyone has yet
not all ng systems sounds exactly the same balances
there are consoles with high psg, others have it lower
I know Artemio was needing time to run it on more of his systems and was hoping to get more recordings of NGCD units, but that shouldn't stop getting reference from MiSTer if anyone is able to do them, so they are there to compare to.
Did a play through of Aero Fighters 2 tonight. First half of the game is oddly easy, then the difficulty ramps up to insane levels in the last few stages. Bullets are flying so fast that it's really hard to react to them at the speed your aircraft flys at. Still a fun time at least. And who can't resist playling as a dolphin!?
can anyone help me with instructions to unlock the scotland course in neo turf masters using the unibios cheats menu?
I activate the cheat in there and the same four courses as normal show up.
I've never tried with the cheat menu before. But the normal code for it always works for me. Half circle from left to right on the course select screen.
Sadly, it doesn't save it as unlocked, so you have to redo it every time.
yeah i got it with the code but would like an easier way if possible for folks to access it for the next game challenge
Makes sense. I'll see if I can figure it out.
Also, that is an amazing and sadistic challenge!
@zinc kite I figured it out. Once you have the Scotland cheat activated in the unibios. On the course selection screen, just press the D button.
perfect, thanks!
I couldn't even google that one! Had to actually just test various ways it could work. š
yea i couldnt find it either. kept moving the cursor around thinking it would unlock by pressing a direction on one of the courses
Nice. I couldn't figure it out the other day either.
Hi, I canāt get .Neo roms to boot, I keep getting a black screen after the loading bar
read the pins and the github, but still confused. should I put the NeoGeo-CD ROMs in /games/NEOGEO or /games/NeoGeo-CD ?
games/NeoGeo-CD
Bios files are in the same folder as the roms?
Yeah, roms packed into .Neo from the darksoft set
Have you run update all and grabbed the BIOS files or have you put them in manually?
Manual I think
There's the issue. Your bios files have additional characters after the extension. Remove the -MVS_BIOS and the -AES_BIOS from those two files. Screenshot attached of my working bios set.
I was missing the uni bios too! Thanks
You're welcome!
Hell yeah. I got the 8bitdo pad and Iām playing on a 55ā Samsung thatās fast and bright enough to get away with CRT filters so this is gonna rule
Come on peeps! We need more masochists to take on Scotland in Neo Turf Masters CD for the game-challenge!
ā³
It's a Casablanca convention.... so many Bogeys.
Damn. That's a classy pun.
"The problems of 2 discord users don't mean a hill of beans in this world.."
i dont know how to search in this channel because its like a thread in discord but, is there working chd support for the neogeo CD core?
I also dont find the info in the github of the Core, so no idea how the status is š
Yah same
LOL what
Robby getting all the love! Classic Robby!
Someone has reported this to me:
Hey. donāt know if this one has ever been mentioned but playing matrimelee last night and noticed small horizontal glitches on the screen on the below stage, they seem to also extend out beyond the screen too. Jump around a bit and you are bound to see them.
I noticed something similar on shock troopers too, will get a screen shot and the stage name where I saw it later.
Does that happen on original hardware?
Got this
In both aes and mvs modes. See it in the upper half of other stages too, like in the shop around the āsaleā signs. The flickering is pretty persistent but too quick for me to capture an image of.
In the 3rd stage of the valley route of shock troopers you see horizontal lines flickering on the left side as the screen scrolls up. Donāt see it in MAME but still need to look up real hardware footage.
Played some KOF 99ae yesterday with folks, what a great and wild hack
@twilit sphinx has been kindly teaching me some tricks for doing CDDA track replacement hacks, so I hope to finish this one within a week or two.
Remind me what arranged means?
For video game soundtracks it often means an arrangement of the original OST with better instruments. Maybe like "full CD soundtrack"
Oh okay
This is cool. Great job batty
It sounds great. Send nud⦠I mean send zip plz
I cant link to ROMs here, but there is a link to my archive account in my Discord profile that will take you to it.
Hi, is it normal for the "King of Fighters 2004 EX Ultra Plus (hack) (kf2k3upl)" hack to give a "exception error handling" error on launch?
King of Fighters 2004 EX Hero (hack) (kf2k3pl) gives me a black screen when I try to launch it as well
these files are from the "@MiSTer Pack Add-on - NEOGEO 2020-05-12" pack
I was about to try the "Darksoft Neo Geo 2023-03-28" pack and convert that to .neo format and see if that changes anything or not but I wasnt sure if this was expected behavior or not (actually I dont think this hack is in this pack...)
Toya
you said something about matrimelee the other day
the glitches are in the transitions ?
Thereās some flickering pixels in the backgrounds on a few stages, Toya asked that I write it up on GitHub which i will do tomorrow.
which bacgrounds ?
Jump around a bit and you will see white dots flickering in and out by the sale signs. Then on that particular variant of the big screen with the girl on the computer you will see flickering in the screen and upper parts of the stage as you play. Itās like a small horizontal band of pixels that flicker off and on.
Cool, let me know how you get on!
It probably happens on real hardware
Thatās likely the case but I couldnāt see it on YouTube videos of real hardware or in MAME.
Going to test matrimelee
Great š
Confirmed
