#ASCII - MSX
1 messages · Page 3 of 1
it is just to label correctly the rom name to inform which mapper to use
it is not so hard
who wants to pollute rom names with random codes anyway
nobody plays 2500 roms 🙂
MSX have so many roms ? 😛
I got a collection of 7100+
so many
unique games
this isn't including all the roms attached to a gameid
also excluding disks
here is where I linked to hashes
i see
On my side i put for each rom (around 100) "NameGame|mapperifnoauto|fmpacifusable|year|dev/publisher|country|MSXtype"
./Roms-MSX2/Aleste (ASCII16)(MSX-Music)(1988)(Compile)(Japan)(MSX2).rom
I did that automatically - if you ever opened that file I sent you a link for 😄
but that was probably too easy
that was a stop gap to make testing easier
and the counts are already updated
😄
That's a lot of ROMs to do! Have you mapped out what all the different data tags will be in the headers?
Oh joy, another system that can play ColecoVision games! 😉
With Adam, MSX could even become a computer
Isn't the Colecovision compatibility because the Colecovision is very similar to MSX1? It's just a bonus
Pretty much everything seems to be able to play ColecoVision, I am pretty sure if I stick a Coleco cart in my toaster it will play.
@stone kindle correct
the base for the romdb is openMSX - I;m the maintainer of that romdatabase
@kind robin the webMSX guy is interested even looking into the header and will give feedback
cool
please image vhd 2021 brazil thanks
fun
For science, of course 😄 Testing out CAS files lol
"lvl 3" lol
No compression back in the day 😉
300 roms added - entries 150 fixed in the last 2 weeks
going to take a break
don't want to end up with a burn out
Or terminal hemorrhoids
I wish
MSX Meeting in Barcelona - the whole day broadcast including the talk from Nishi himself
Thank you I will watch a bit to see new information regarding MSX0 and MSX3 🙂
that's a lot of bald and grey heads in the audience
i'd strut around holding a snes to show the true power of gaming
@copper prawn don't be sad that you missed out on the MSX when you were young - it's totally normal for those trolls there in Norway to not have had technology until the rest of Europe was already using electricity for at least 50 years 😉
Here is a picture from a train in Oslo in 1986
(steam powered)
"just you wait" 🙂
meanwhile in 'Holland' (not the be confused with the much cooler Netherlands)
@copper prawn looking forward to the day that you discover the real Metal Gear game
Snake’s Revenge?
...........
pretty sure i played the msx original once. i think on the mgs3 disc
FPS hell
Holland and their music modules
speaking of which, I came accross this today ^ MOD/XM tracker for the browser
it can even load files directly from modarchive

Posting here due to my fascination and weirdness
🤔
...... why
Some hardware mods are done just for the memes
it reminds me of that youtuber that was basically an apple hardware reviewer, then he posted a video about how he broke his brand new mac studio doing something stupid, it was a big rant. i guess it got really popular because people were sorta hate-watching it. now all of his videos are about breaking new apple hardware doing dumb things
Konami's PC/MSX division: a group of talented developers with their own work-flow, challenges and opportunities. Their creative concepts and know-how of the MSX resulted in an expansive library of excellent games. Being responsible for massive MSX hits like The Maze of Galious, Penguin Adventure, Metal Gear and the unique Gradius sequels. This m...
thank you !

@fallen summit
Splash Wave video is pretty good. Wish they discussed the sound in greater depth
They have several MSX videos
Production quality is always great
Yup - I spoke to the main producer ones about one of his firsts movies
He really knows his stuff - but putting 1989 on metal gear 1 … it’s from 1987! 😉
metal gear is one of my favorite nes games
Well it’s a 2nd rate games compared to the original
what do you mean? I think the MSX one is a pretty good port
Konami made a lot of cool shit for a while there. Good video
No other video game company back that made me excited to see what lurked last the Konami logo
Maze of Galious - in the beginning I was wondering what the heck this was - the concept was new to me - exploring and revitalizing health by killing enemies - password save function
The only other game what sort of used that mechanic before were ‘the goonies’
But that game was different - around the same time penguin adventure was released and a friend of my brother left the cart at our house for us to play
I didn’t know about the warp zones until much much later
So a few months later metal gear and usas
2 different games - but metal gear really kept me coming back for more
I think I discovered all the secrets - items etc …
Usas was a lot of fun but towards the end you needed to use game mechanics that were not common explored
Then I finally got my hands on an SCC cart (salamander) and in the meantime rom hacks on disk were released
Parodius was one of them
I think the most wtf moment was when I played metal gear for the first time - my older brother kept on hiding the disks. So when he left them behind I made copies for myself - game was in Japanese so I was at level 40 on the 2nd town - but who cares it was fun killing enemies getting moment and buying guns
So much more time back in those days
metal gear is the sotn of msx
maze of galious is
yey, compiled and run successfully my first ever C program written on a MSX 😄 (based on the nice and easy how-to https://medium.com/relearning-msx )
and still 56 KB left of space on the floppy ("sacrificed" the .HLP files from \help :D)
nice!
lol, forgot about MODE 80 🥺 much better now
Way to go
even I never wrote a C program on the MSX
not even hello world
but I did some assembly
What is this?
So is that the MSX2 code merged into Main now?
Thank you Molekula!
I don't think main will change.
The readme explains some changes on bootroms
modular MSX
So is it now at the state Rysha can work on MSX2 code?
the code is pushed.
Regarding information on Readme and changed boot roms I couldn't load the MSX2.
If I used load bios roms on OSD it works maybe the names are not ok or need main mister updated
that's the rc2014
it's a z80-based homebrew computer; at some point the creator realized it could be a msx with a few addon cards, and since it was modular already ... the rest is history
I kind of want one
if you wanted to, you could make something that's a msx but also ... has whatever weird stuff you want, like a lil oled screen or ... man i dunno...anything really
Does anything have to be harvested, or all the parts can be purchased?
that's a very good question...i THINK nothing needs to be harvested but you'd want to double check. i think his stuff is on tindie
Will investigate
https://www.tindie.com/search/?q=rc2014 i want to say the yellow 'series' cards are for msx functionality
Would love to have a series of cards to build as I need new soldering projects
i love the modularity ... gives me too many crazy ideas
yeah, same
like "ah, i want to add some new weird IO to my sorta-msx"
or "heck, let's add core memory for no reason"
honestly just having a wifi-enabled msx would be cool, heh
ah yeah when i got to page 3 of that link i started seeing the msx stuff
i have a 2+ but the idea of a brand new one, customized for what i wanna do, now that's cool
How can we get the Arab MSX's into mister 😮
Is it just a case of loading the BIOS? You may be able to do that already
yes on the OSD we can load bioses so normally Arab's one will work if they already work on MSX1 core
MSX1 mode and MSX2 mode have different advanced settings regarding bioses
FM Pac on MSX1 mode and MSX2 mode
@craggy iris boot0.rom boot1.rom boot2.rom not working(black screen). In advance setting, booting is possible, but the game cannot be run.
Read the read me
I read "read me". For others, does this core work well?
I successfully booted by selecting bios in OSD. But the game doesn‘t run. Is it possible for you
I was playing SD snatcher on it earlier - with SCC+ sound
I just love the core now
@craggy iris @fallen summit I delete boot.rom so it‘s possible to boot early. I got to know it.
I put the rom in the A slot and the FMpac rom in the B slot. This way, the rom can be run. By the way, the MSX1 game has a strange screen color. MSX2 games are normal.
FM-pac is not needed for penguin adventure
No. The color is weird even if I remove FM-pac.
And I can‘t hear the FM sound. Do I need to put FM-pac.rom separately?
check on generation-msx which games support fm-pac if you're not familiar with it
Aleste 1/2 and Gaiden support it
try those
I tested it with xevious. I put and removed the FM-pac in the B slot, but I can‘t feel the difference between the two sounds.
xevious supports msx-audio, not msx-music
you need to use something that actually supports fm-pac/msx-music
No. xevious supports msx-music. I have real msx2 machine and FM-pac.
ok
MSX music also works with R-type
For now, it's in a separate branch and waiting to be merged. This will be possible when I finish the groundwork needed in the Main project. Without this support it is user complex to load the BIOS, FM-PAC, Gamemaster2 FW needs to be loaded manually and SRAM save support also requires a modified MiSTer kernel.
Copy bios files to Games/MSX1 folder or load them manually from the menu
boot0.rom MSX2 BIOS
boot1.rom MSX2 EXT
boot2.rom MSX2 DSK
OK. It boots well when I delete boot.rom. But why are only MSX1 games weird in color? And rom loading is only possible in slot A.
i can't get floppy to work anymore ? must i change also MiSTer file ?
i have take real 8240 boot files
the last release doesn't work for me
How much SDRAM are you using? MSX2 offers a RAM Size option in Advanced settings,128kB,64kB,512kB,256kB ?
You need to correctly place the ROM files in the MSX1 directory or upload manually via the Advaced settings menu. This is still a test core and not very user friendly
Is the weird color of the MSX1 game related to SDRAM? I‘m setting it to 512kb and using it.
You don't have the MSX2 mode set, but the BIOS loaded for MSX1. It will work somehow, but the bios can't set the color palette in the VDP from MSX2
In that case, I can imagine the discordant colors.
@craggy iris There is not a description of sram save functionin "read me". Is SRAM save possible?
In MSX1 or MSX2 mode ?
Yes, but changes are needed in the MiSTer kernel where support for this is needed. Then you can save the SRAM of each cartridge and also support SRAM from ROM (ascii8 SRAM XX, KOEI etc..)
The game Feedback on floppy boots loop after tecno soft screen with the last RBF. I works with the previous update.
I don‘t understand well. In general, the color of the real MSX2 machine screen is not strange even if I play msx1 games.
Very nice. You‘re amazing.
I am describing a situation where the menu is set to MSX2 mode, the BIOS is loaded for MSX1 and the game is running for MSX1. It will work, but the MSX2 mode uses a different VDP that the MSX1 BIOS cannot initialize correctly. As a result, the colors may be different. MSX1's VDP has colors fixed by HW, but MSX2's VDP has a software-adjustable color palette.
Also I'm confirmed if Slot A and Slot B are set to ROM.
The rom on slot B doesn't load.
But If I set FM PAC in slot A, I can load Aleste on slot B.
Are you using the original MiSTer kernel ?
Another case :
Start the core
If I set MSX1 mode - load the bios rom in advanced settings it works
If I switch to MSX2 - I have black screen
after I made a reset It is MSX1 bios shows with VDP of MSX2 (see the screenshot below)
yes original Mister Kernel on my tests
There was no such issue in your previous test msx2 core, both msx1 and msx2 games were colored normally.
Yes, that's the problem. The bootx.rom only loads after a hard reset. The MSX1/MSX2 BIOS is shared in memory. After switching back there is still BIOS MSX1 but HW MSX2. This will be resolved with the MiSTer kernel update. After the mode switch, you need to reload the MSX2 BIOS via the menu.
Otherwise it was working with memory in FPGA. Before, memory was allocated for each mode separately. Then I had no memory left for cartridges. Now it is shared for the BIOS and this leads to these transient problems until I get the necessary modifications into the kernel. I'm trying to make the core available for users who don't have additional SDRAM
Thanks for the explanation !
It's not easy with all these possible configuration cases 😅
@craggy iris In the end, the MiSTer kernel modification solves all the problems. Thank you. Can Korean MSX2 Daewoo cpc-300 bios also be supported?
I loaded the game (xevious) rom in slot A, put fm-pac in slot B, and loaded fm-pac.rom into FW B in Advanced settings, so I checked that the FM sound was heard well. Good ! 😀
@stray reef did you get my pm?
Development takes a lot of time and for the end user patience - please just report bugs. It keep frustration to yourself as it it’s hard enough to create a core
You are not entitled to get a core - so when someone is working on it you better show some gratitude and patience
@craggy iris in msx2 mode
what floppy are you trying to load
@craggy iris currently you set the mapper to 'none' would it be possible to set the 'default' to auto?
@stray reef set your video mode to NTSC and see if that makes a difference for you - here is a screenshot from an MSX1 setup
@slate echo are you trying to load floppies in msx1 or msx2 mode?
after reset config files and restore 8250f main (boot0.rom) + 8250f ext (boot1.rom) + 8240 disk (boot2.rom) all seem to work as before in msx2 mode
baltak rampage demo crash after some time
syntax infinity doesn't even start
noc noc have scramble video and sound
all work before if i remember right ...
syntax infinity works fine
@craggy iris regarding bioses, I don't know if you are aware of this possibility proposed on MiSTer and not required normally changes on MiSter main.
The core TI99/4a (Texas Instrument 99/4A) used a lot of bios roms like MSX you can see it on the OSD.
After selecting bin files, the file is stored on the directory /media/fat/config along other config files.
When the core loads again it could used those files stored previously.
I could be a good way for the MSX's bioses.
The core C64 also used it for kernal etc ...
yes I know syntax infinity
when i type file i see disk content
same crc as mine ... and crash just blue screen at boot
see DM
sorry ... DM ?
ah ok
hmmmm
yup dos1 is broken
or maybe not
weird stuff going on
yeah disk access needs to be looked at
I guess we just need to pick 1 drive we want to use (the MSX has a lot of different drives with different methods to get data from it)
and then use that bios
With 512 kB we have now enough memory to launch MGSP 🙂
😄
i need to put some music on my floppy
does this player use scc or fm-pack ?
VGMPlay also works now with added RAM 🙂 for VGM/VGZ files
yes I tried also VGMPlay and it works great
we need plenty of DSK files to store all musics 🙂
SymAmp works as well under SymbOS (.pt3, .st2, .skm and maybe some other)
Great !!!
Is someone tried to buy digital disks of Snatcher Act3 made by Delta Soft for MSX2 ?
I sent a mail to them 4 days ago but no response from them.
New core version is awesome! I have been trying games that didn't work before:
-Sword of Ianna (ASCII16) loads now but hangs after intro 😐
-Los Amores de Brunilda works perfectly now (except for the boot picture) 🙂
-Lily's Saga still hangs after programme's logo 😦
One of the members form deltasoft passed away last year
Right after it was released
So not sure if they are still checking email
You can put it there if you want. Cause the MSX folder is for the ocm core. I just made custom folders 🤓
yes
i could
thanks
and FM PAC ?
do I need a bios for it ?
because it doesn't work
Yes
do you people have it ?
oh there is an MSX2 map now
that's new
😄
oh might be put there by me
december 3rd 2022
oh crap 😄 lol
[Follows you] 😄
pretty happy lol
I'm a big Compile fan
oh the retweet was from:
names you see a lot in compile games
I see thank you.
It is with great sadness to inform you of the passing of Remy van den Bor, known as The Kid of Deltasoft.
@karmic rover there is the post about it
tonight's tune will be this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xpKiactc93s
I love how Konami takes old game music and inserts it as an Easter Egg into other titles. This tune, as well as the other Forgotten City tune (Sandfall) are actually from an MSX game called "King's Valley II". Faithfully remastered and enhanced in Castlevania: Portrait of Ruin.
This solution would work if I decided that the kernel needs SDRAM to run. I've already put enough effort into getting the kernel to run without additional SDRAM to keep it running, albeit with limitations. I'm still toying with the idea of whether it would be possible to use slow DDR3 memory as auxiliary ROM storage.
Understood ! So this solution required SDRAM ...
Yes, there is not enough space in the FPGA for all the ROMs used (BIOS/FW). Therefore, when the MSX1/MSX2 mode is changed, the BIOS needs to be reloaded. FW FM-PAC and GM2 also share memory with ROM cartridges.
The Genesis core has an option to run either with or without SDRAM is branching is also an option when there’s enough opportunity cost to warrant it
This MSX1 core can also work with SDRAM. It automatically detects the size of the SDRAM and internally sets the memory layout for each part accordingly. What is not possible without SDRAM, however, is to load all the necessary ROMs so that they can be used according to the settings in the Menu. FM-PAC 64kB, RAM 64kB, MSX2 BIOS 256kB, MSX2 VRAM 128kB, MSX1 BIOS 32kB This simply won't fit in the FPGA all at once. Therefore, these ROMs need to be loaded continuously according to the configuration.
Yes I mean why could they not be loaded into SDRAM only for users who have it?
Maybe later, maybe otherwise. This is a test version and not the final version. How about uploading one file that contains the necessary ROM and configuration ? So that it represents a specific MSX computer.
@craggy iris Do you have any plans to support multiple types of MSX2 bios and vdp9958?
SG1000 works but without sound, i don't know how to setup it correctly
It needs the SG1000 psg
It is different to the MSX one
It can be converted, but it sounds strange
The msx2sms conversions sound weird too.
Gulkave has MSX version I Think
Ok so maybe sound differently 🙂
yes Gulkave is on the MSX nativly
blame compile 😄
SELECT * FROM msxdb_rominfo t1

back to working on the romdb today
just got a new dump from generation MSX
headers will be a step closer soon
the issue is it's not hudson hawk
this new core is still in development and isn't grabbed by update all?
@gloomy sentinel maybe give better descriptions instead of using negative language
😛
@copper prawn I wish update_all picked an update for you

English is not my better point. Sorry if I sound negative 😝
How to explain
Well
Firehawk letters have a graphic problem. They dont show correctly. When the game starts, the main character is an square of messy graphics, then all goes to normal, but the game runs veeeeeery slow.
It's like slow motion... realistic if no gravity is in the asteroid in fact 😂
I can see that
@craggy iris it seems that the disk part has some regressions
ROMs still work fine - but some games aren't working as they did before
Syntax Infinity is another example of a demo that used to load and doesn't load anymore
SD Snatcher seems to work fine - so it might be related to a bios call or something
it is alien language 🙂
i loaded the NEW core
and a game

i suppose you unzip all the roms here
they're not big anyways
i grabbed them from no-intro and they're all zipped
You will discover Nyampi Cats Puzzle !
loaded a cassette file... now what.. it ain't playin
maybe it doesn't autoboot? probably need to start it with some weird F1 button
- Load the CAS file on the OSD (F12)
- BLOAD"CAS:",R (binary format)
CLOAD (Basic Format)
RUN"CAS:" (ASCII Format) - RUN
loaded up a random rom. it doesn't boot. others do. in development etc etc etc i assume
"adventure kid - open"
for some games you need to setup the mapper
i see
here you have a DB of rom games and the mapper
https://romdb.vampier.net/
i think there's so many games in pretty much all the systems' libraries you need to find some best of lists or recommendations
(it's sotn. it's always sotn.)
load"cas:" / load"cas:",r (also run is tokenized basic)
save"cas:",a == ascii
save"cas:" = tokenized
slightly outdated for now 🙂
once I'm ready to push it live I will
until then it is what it is
ok !
well look at this 😉 https://fregarni.itch.io/bomb-jack-msx1
21 round 🙂
it is a game present on a MSX magazine
Xak / Ys / DragonSlayer 4 and 6
Feedback
Herzog
Zanac/Zanac-ex/Aleste/Aleste2/Aleste Gaiden/Guardic
@sly surge I can go on for a few hours
1st puyo puyo
I was just about to play that too
BPS or Mirrorsoft Tetris
You’re only naming Compile games cos I prompted you tho 😉
eh Xak = Microcabin
Ys / DragonSlayer 4 and 6 = falcom
Feedback\Herzog = Technosoft
Didn't even mention Fray or Illusion City for Microcabin
Did technosoft start there too?
technosoft is also very present on PC88
don't know - but the games they released where pretty much pretty advanced for the MSX2 platform
First time I saw Feedback I thought it was an Amiga game
I was young - didn't know better 😄
and konami made some crappy games on the MSX
Played by: Eino
AKA Rush'n Attack. MSX version is slow and ugly with lackluster sound. -
Disclaimer: Most videos by World of Longplays use SaveStates!
eh... stupid zemina hack used for longplay?
welcome to Konami UK - the one and only Konami game for the MSX made outside Japan
brutal
This nice Green-Berret homage is much better than the MSX1 version released by Konami
Welcome to 2023 where someone took a few weeks to make a nice MSX2 version
that's pretty cool. i understand it can't have original assets in it but it'd be cool if it had this rendition of the music https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=73KnESBiAY4
I looked on YouTube for some NES Konami music, and I really liked this song, so I did the thing and here it is. Viola.
WHAT DO YOU DO WHEN: a snail crosses your path?
tiny magic is very promising on FD47
his slot checker helped me a lot when testing my sfg adaptor thing
ok just downloaded all MSX roms from an 'Archive' - let's see if I can find new roms I don't have yet 😄
ok some a-hole renamed dsk.file to rom files
I guess that was worth it 😄
All those companies made things in PC-8801, the MSX nemesis...
There are better ones in 88, there are better in msx
agreed - some version on the pc8801 or x68k are extended versions of the MSX ones
some are just much better because of more cpu power behind them
some are original from 88, there are good and bad conversions
I think first Xak is better in MSX
nicest graphics
In the counterpart I feel Ys III or Valis 2 better in 88
Firehawk... draw
music is better in 88 but graphics feel more colorful in MSX
so draw
I like Xak on the snes too - much different graphics and same story
New version of MGSP

yup saw this in the morning

glorious MIDI sounds
opl4 ?
moonsound
it was used by dutch demos
music module and moonsound
I had a music module from philips
I enjoyed Muzax3
stereo moonblaster
I never could connect midi modules on it and sound
it never worked for me
I have to say that I bought second hand and it didn't have the ROM connected on the socked.
I don't know if it was needed for it.
MSX Music Disk - Muzax3 with Philips Music Module
oh those crazy dutchies
snes and ps1 for me
favorite game (series) ?
I can't too
mortal kombat or primal rage could be games I hate
Jet Set Willy and all the 10000000 clones that are based on this POS!
ah yes
these things you say, too
the gold age of western computers... incluiding the amiga... I save not so many games
the UK back in the day: hey look a cool game was released - quick grab a c64/zx spectrum and try to make a clone of the game.... there is money to be made!
I'm spanish... I don't like the Golden Age of Spanish Software. Opera Soft, Topo Soft... Nah I don't like...
urgh
blow up with the cosmic cheat is epic!
It remembers me mutant monty character
oh yeah - another jet set willy clone
I can only play the extreme light beings from japan made...
Jet Set Willy is ... ughhhh
this is what happens when you let UK people make a game for the MSX
lack of imagination and sticking to what they know
I'm from California
ahhh
I thought you were European
MSX in USA was not popular... and you are an Extreme MSX lover.
ahhh ok ok
then I understand EVERYTHING
you are have the NMS marked in your soul
Philips
nms8220/8255
but yes yes... so sad times with computers in Europe
I got an nms8220 here
to be honest - those spectrum guys sometimes made a masterpiece with their games
I saw the Castlevania one
have to say it's well done
but the games at those times... ohhhh
ahh you say Chase HQ ?
this looks good
and
I remember
Robocop too
but well
If I have to say a machine I like a lot
Megadrive
this might surprise you - some of the genesis/megadrive music is horrendous with those sharp FM tones
FM SOUND with BLAST PROCESSING

well
depends on the game

the console that came from the creation in the bigbang...
🤣
the chip was a cut version of OPNA
they should be used the full OPNA...
like the PC-88
only the PSG and FM parts are in the megadrive
they eliminated the ADPCM and the 6 built-in PCM rythms
probably was more expensive
@gloomy sentinel did you know that space manbow could look the same on the MSX1?

space manbow is mainly in screen 4 to take advantage of the multi color sprites
it's interesting to know
the ship of Space Manbow is an Sprite or a Copy ?
what do you think about Mark III/ Master System inside the MSX world ?
It's very close to
there are strange SIMILAR things between the two systems

I like Golvellius for the SMS

Pretty typical hack-n-slash. You play as Rastan on a journey to slay the Dragon and Evil Wizard, basically - However the Wizard escapes until the sequel! -

@fallen summit Where does the fm-pack BIOS go? as boot3.rom, maybe?
Ah, no, I have to load it manually.. Is there no way to have the core load it automatically?
@cyan horizon see the "(for now)" part
@cyan horizon how did you manage to launch Los Amores de brunilda. Have you a specific version ? Which bioses do you use ?
I use the bioses available here: https://download.file-hunter.com/System ROMs/machines/philips/
And then I set the ASCII16 mapper type for Los Amores
I think It was KonamiSCC thanks for the information I will test it !
@craggy iris what FDD is the MSX floppy based on?
different disk bios files have different outcomes when using the FDD
Different memory addresses? Brazilian FDD interfaces were port based. I think all EUR and JP disk bioses memory mapped. I had the only BR MSX with a memory mapped FDD interface. 😢couple of BR games and BR disk conversions were not compatible
Holy moly wasn’t expecting the long load times with snatcher ? It’s supposed to be like that ?,
playing from the VHD on the other core goes faster
it's included with the VHD I released
@limber kettle back in the day we had more patience 😄
"load times? what is this - the era in which this software was created and meant to be used??"
Also the VHD used on the core is slower than a HDD on real hardware because of the exchange between the HPS and the FPGA.
We can see it clearly when we used zipped content on Sofarun.
It is slower than using the same image on real hardware
aaaand we got bad apple on cart
btw something fun is happening with openMSX - it's still experimental btw the end of a separate control program might be over
yes those screens can be dragged outside the openMSX window
someone threw imgui into it?
yeah - just an experiment for now
Ascii Stick X looks similar to the NES Advantage, right down to the non-microswitched stick.
I ❤️ imgui
The NES Advantage was manufactured by Asciiware, it basically is just a Nintendo branded Ascii Stick. They made the Ascii Stick for several systems (NES, MSX, PC-Engine, etc)
What are the best packs for MSX/MSX2, I'm searching for something like MegaAGS for the Amiga. The only pack that I have found is the htgdb game pack from may last year...
Obviously, I don't want any link, just what to search for.
File hunter
This.
Check a certain organized archive
so is the MSX1 core just for MSX1 games? dumb question just wanna know
I got Parodius on it working at least
The one getting with update all is for MSX1 games.
Some works on test core based on MSX1 core is on going and msx2 games work for most of them. The RBF is on a test branch if you want to get it
@sudden kite @keen jungle did you ever notice those numbers at the end of a filename from filehunter.com ?
ever wondered what they are?
I'll give you a hint
the HTGDB file is the VHD from NosferatuMSX
seriously - don't people have any shame anymore
@fallen summit Apparently not... What pack do you think is the best?
DB table row index?
what is HTGDB and what is NosferatuMSX
No clue - but NosferetuMSX is an MSX user
Who has a mister
And access to a lot of ROMs in a huge collection
HashID corresponds to the number those ROMs have
Here you can see them still
In the new interface they are more hidden
Former SmokeMonster Game Database
that leaves the mystery of who NosferatuMSX is
He created this screenshot this morning #general-banter message
if I was one of the pack creators I wouldn't post a picture with my face right on the github
does your DB reference all of MSX software titles ever existing?
ROMs and rom conversions
If you want to share your collection I can scan for ones I don’t have yet
how do I share them? 🙂
I‘m hoping and waiting for new msx1/msx2 core to merge into MiSTer main soon but I think sorgelig is too busy these days. 😢
@sudden kite upload them somewhere and pm me the link
Only include rooms
Roms
I doubt you have ones I don’t have
the work of this core is still in progress ! for the moment nothing is proposed to the main.
Most likely 🙂
I know it well too. However, I remember that Molekula asked sorgelig to merge MiSTer Main a long time ago.
Asking and happening is a different thing
If sorg says no then another solution needs to be found
We all don't know the details. I think sorgelig can't do it because he is busy.
I always assume he has been abducted by space aliens to upgrade his firmware
poor aliens 😅

Temptations works on the new MSX1 core 🙂
I mean, compared to the ocm core
do i need msx 1 and 2 bioses for unreleased core to boot? not getting a video signal here
yes bioses are required for the new MSX1 core and also for the MSX2/MSX1 test core
you have information on the readme regarding bioses
thx
still no luck . do i need an unreleased main?
downloaded an html file insted of core. stupid me

thx, but i managed to boot it
just played aleste and knightmare
my first time playing aleste
really hoping the idea to add an header goes through
ohh.. aleste supports fmpac? let me try it!
aleste has a cool soundtrack
oh god. i still sux at Knightmare
anyone know how to switch disks in the 1chipmsx core? i managed to get final fantasy to load and get to title screen, but it wants disk 2 now
snatcher asked for disk 2 and then to press space, i just pressed space and it seems to be continuing
@pastel grotto what you use?
Snatcher should be the hdd version
SD snatcher should be a concatenation of disk 1/2/3 and the save disk
If you use sofa run push disk number on keyboard and then space
This is the one I have
i'm honestly a little surprised i managed to find and run it in the first place lol
there's a lot of different MSX stuff and i have absolutely no historical knowledge of the MSX
i think this is a curated bootable image someone made
yeah NosferatuMSX made that one
it's the image with the nice MiSTer logo at the start
on the boot menu which no one reads instructions for
😄
@pastel grotto the HDD version you have there is great - also try SD Snatcher which is in the disk section
SD snatcher is an Ys style RPG made by Konami
ooh that's very interesting, I will definitely try it, though I'm in the middle of setting up windows 95 at the moment lol
good luck 🙂

A CP/M application ROM loader capable to run native MSX games without changes or patches. W.I.P.
By providing a fake MSX BIOS that translate MSX I/O to Nabu I/O and also interpretes the serial keyboard and mouse. Some ROM files can be dumped from MSX and ran directly on Nabu PC like Zanac. Others may have copy protection schemes like most Konam...
@cyan plinth these nerds are still going at it 🙂
interesting. was there ever a recreation of the nabu network made online since it was switched off?
should search before questions. found one possibility: https://github.com/GryBsh/NabuNetworkEmulator
not sure how content would be hosted though, sort of the blocking point in making a nabu core for mister
Not sure either - I never had heard of the NABU until recently - and I wasn’t jumping at the bit to get one 🙂 I got enough ways to play MSX games already
made an uploaded for roms to check what you have
limited to 20 files at a time however
Internal queue upload test
is there a way to activate turbo on msx1 core?
by turbo i mean joy button turbo. not turbo-r 🙂
menu + button?
button you want auto fire for and then within 2 seconds the menu button
right and then menu button = make time interval longer
left and menu mutton = make time interval shorter
when I was working on the logo I wrote a converter that would take pictures and put them into black and white - readable by the MSX
excellent!
What is the benefit of using MSX1 core vs the regular MSX core?
@potent abyss no clue - please tell me what you mean with regular msx core
also make sure to read this https://vampier.net/MSX/
There are two MSX cores on MiSter, right?
Ok great, that is what I was looking for, thanks.
Oh, didn't even know there was another MSX2 core as well.
Direct loading of ROMs is big one
I went back to the msx2(20221231) test core. Sorgelig is still busy so he is not working on the MiSTer main update. There is no FM music in this core, but I can run msx1 and msx2 games normally and conveniently.
Is sorgelig busy with non-MiSTer related stuff?
I know he‘s always busy with his livelihood. But I think He is even busier this time.😔
if he has a job i'm fully unaware of it
This MSX1 core is being developed into an MSX2 core
I look forward to one day taking in the Aleste msx games on a core
Oh on the working build? Thought FM synth wasn’t working
FM works. You have to load the FM ROM manually, and then games detect it and works fine.
Ahh
@ionic brook #1056033525922537542 message
check that post
it shows both SCC(+) and FM-PAC
The problem is that the color of the MSX1 game is weird. And it‘s inconvenient to use..
Great, thanks for the info and the link.
The previous core(20221231) has normal color regardless of hdmi or vga output. Molekula previously mentioned that the color of recent core can be abnormal when playing msx1 game without a MiSTer main. The recent core has a normal color in the msx2 game. Hdmi out and vga out are completely unrelated causes.
Thanks for letting me know - good luck with your adventures

Showing an early version of MNESX running on MSX turboR with Gfx9000. The emulator does not have audio hooked up yet, so the video is silent (sorry!). There's no dynamic recompiler yet either, so for purpose of this video the R800 CPU is overclocked.

'new' MSX game released
Herateino
I don't know how - but someone had this early version of a game I abandoned in their collection
why the new MSX core wasn't included in the new Mister updates?
the changes for MSX are not pushed on mister devel for the moment
it maybe not ready 🙂
@craggy iris This time, the new msx2 core is missing from the MiSTer main update. I’ve been waiting for this very much. What‘s the problem? When can it be integrated into the main?
when it's ready, it's still in development, take it easy buddy.
I am well aware that this core is under development. However, I thought it would be completed to some extent if the test core was integrated into the MiSTer main, but I am a bit disappointing that it couldn‘t. I thought this core was not integrated into the MiSTer main because solgelig was busy. Anyway, we have to wait longer.
For me waiting is fine, the slower and more peaceful the development the better the core will come out, I think Molekula is doing a great job.
and since I follow open-source development and have seen several projects abandoned due to pressure or haste on the part of users, I take it for granted that we must respect time and work from the developer and patiently wait and help in whatever way you can. I'm not saying you're not doing it. Just leave it for as long as he needs it, good for us with that
I agree with your opinion But I have no intention at all to pressure the developer. I am well aware that the new MSX2 core is a great core. I am willing to wait for the core to be well developed. However, I thought it would be integrated during this MiSTer main update, but it didn‘t come out, so I was curious about the reason why.
Hello, I'm still not happy with the state I'd like to have this project in by the time it gets to the Mian branch. The latest test version needs a lot of intervention in the main MiSTer. But this latest version gave me a new idea on how to better support the variability of the MSX ecosystem in terms of configuration without having to interfere with the main MiSTer. Now I have less time to work on MSX, but I am gradually implementing my ideas.
Thank you for all your hard work on this, loving how your core is looking already
Thank you for your time on this core !
Thank you for all your hard work and time dedicated to this core...Take your time...
I am always grateful for your hard work. I‘ve solved a lot of questions now. I hope the wonderful core will be completed well.
@craggy iris I'm pretty much done with the headers
just need to implement them into the rom file
I have mapper/publisher/name/year/genre/audio support/video support
as with the header one can pick and choose what to use
take your time
@fallen summit That's good news. I could ask for a specific header and list of values for each attribute.
After loading ROM, the following must be known: mapper type, ROM location offset, and length. These are the basic prerequisites for this to work.
sure
you can get length of the file right?
I will implement length of the header including header indicator bytes (first few)
so after the header what is left is the rom
At the end the ROM heardless will still continue to work ?
thank you
with MSX2+ or TurboR the scrolling is way better
the new core that isn't done?
the new core is MSX2 with the last update
old one is MSX2+ and some parts of TurboR
i use update all only. i've got msx and msx1
Z80. turbo +F11
yes for MSX1/MSX2 test you need to get this rbf https://github.com/MiSTer-devel/MSX1_MiSTer/blob/MSX2/releases/MSX1_20230203.rbf
it is not getting by the update for the moment
i've got sofarun set up with all proper settings
the great VHD ?
i believe so.
i have two msx setups. one's a vhd and one collection straight from dracula himself
No it’s not

Nosferatu, totally different
did anyone try the new MSX VHD yet?
I used and even played Aleste 2, I even liked what I saw
something you want us to see?
Where can I get it from?
Seconded
The organized archive
Nah just curious 🙂
Hmmm, I can only find old ones. I'll keep up the search
it is from Nosferatu himself ?
that's the comment with the vhd
anyone still alive?
Yep! I come here everyday to read news on this fantastic core 😄
So count me alive even if I don't talk very much
No, I'm ded
Ok good
👋

not good
yes kitty has to go on diet
I'm here, but I have nothing new to post.
I'm just waiting for MSX2 to get added to main myself
@gloomy sentinel wow I didn't need to use google translate to read that - I guess living close to Mexico does that do me 😄
and yup - what we have now is already better than the OCM
Disk support could use some work
Vampier, si vives cerca de México, seguro que el español está muy presente en tu entorno.
hehe
yeah and The Netherlands was Spanish territory once
yes
after they occupied us
exactly
and killed a massive amount of Dutch people
😄
but that's in the past - the Dutch should have been stronger
and not just sit on their boats being king of the sea
heck the Dutch national anthem has this line "De koning van Hispanje heb ik altijd geëerd."
"I have always honored the king of Hispania."
I don't believe in the Dark Legend of Spanish Conquests.
indeed - so people who say I live on Stolen Land
can blow me
I bought this house and the land 😛
but if the Anglosaxons were conquered south america... today no natives there.
like they did in North America
but sure, they were ancient times... but the King gave citizenship to all native in south america... when they were converted to christianism, of course. Our Legend is not that dark. hehe
slavery vs christianity not exactly a great choice
better than genocide
(also there are still natives in north america)
yes there are
I think Indigenous folks would argue that cultural genocide is still bad
that's what the US really pushed for after all
and that's not true
they were still pretty savage
still recent history out here
but, some from anglosaxons countries argue against us in this way
and they were the worst
i'm sorry
now you've got modern latin america states still trying to stamp out Indigenous folks
it's not the same as what the US has done but it's still not good
is for that
we receive criticism from USA, and they were worst in the conquests... well, the british
anyway
were old tims
old manners
I feel the south american nations as my equals. I'm Spanish. I feel them like our brothers.
but are complicated topics... Let's enjoy the MSX
Yo no sé cómo sigue colando...
he sufrido esa mierda, amigo.
