I've modified manually some MRAs from Jotego and added the two progam ROMs from MAME 0.269 to the arcade set.

I've also modified the values of 'mameversion' and the 'asm_md5' ones.

The CRC32 are correct at least for the Program ROMs.
For the asm_md5 value, you need to hash the ZIP file after adding the Program ROMs to the correct folders.

Hyper SF 2 is just an alternate version 1 week before the final release known to date.

Recently been playing Vsav and Cyberbots with a friend, 90s Capcom was really just trying anything and everything back then. Very oddball games but really fun the more you start to understand them. Although, I'm just stomping my friend in Vsav, he's really struggling to get a grasp on the game lol

I don't know why I never asked before, but what was the reasoning behind the way q sound works in CPS games? Some effects always sound like they are on extreme ends of the polarity. Like if you're playing Player 1 side, a lot of audio is emphasized on the left. In the game itself, it sounds like there are three output sources that never blend. When the characters are centered, the audio seems to want to choose the left or right side. Maybe arcade speakers blend the audio better?

In Mars Matrix, I kept thinking my speakers were messed up, but there was audio clearly going through just fine except Player 1 specific sounds only came from the left speaker.

In SF6, the sounds are more dynamic so I've never heard it as pronounced. Since CPS games have simpler sound but with echo/reverb sometimes, it's easier for me to pixk up on.

I think Street Fighter 4 does the same thing. Specially during character and srage select where the player 2 side has lower volume for selection confirm sound.

So I went from Alpha 1 to Alpha 2, and they definitely improved the sound where it is proportionate to where the characters are standing.

Realistically any new arcade cores we get, the ROMs will have been in the Mame archive for a long time, so new MRAs would grab the corresponding ROM film in theory (even while people can't add more ROMs)

At this stage they can't be adding that many newly dumped arcade ROMs each year.

I kind of wonder how 3d fighters might have turned out if someone had made something like that elegant. I guess you have stuff like Bushido Blade and Power Stone but almost everything else is fighting on a 2d plane, mostly, with the occasional dodging or sidestepping in there. It feels like simplicity sells.

Well, it's no Gunbird 2 core and no PGM, but I guess CPS3 is quite ok. I am no competitive player though, thus for me Street Fighter Zero 3 or Streetfighter Alpha 2 are more or less the same. I cannot see the step up in anything (but HW specs).

CPS 3 is fun and the hardware sucks to use in practice so it def could use an FPGA core for preservation as it’s delicate AF. But it’s so much work for six games…which are really just three gemes; 3x SF II, 2x Jojo’s and a Red Earth

If it doesn’t happen it’s a huge shame because look how modular HDL recreation of chips are and how many devs have benefitted from just importing and using those. Closed source not only makes it so you don’t know the quality and don’t preserve the hardware, it also slows development of other cores by other authors

On Jotego’s patreon discord channel, he released an MRA for his implementation of turtles in time. I haven’t tried it but it sounds like it works perfectly fine, but it has some sprite issues. He is still waiting on furrtek to decode one of the sprite chips. He said he could implement it using mame’s technique for the chip, but their implementation is incorrect and he wants it to be accurate. Hello, I have a problem with the lack of color in the arcade core TMNT Turtles in Time when using composite and S-Video. My setup is the Mister RetroCastle Saturn board 2023. I already asked this question in the "CRT" section, and no one else has this issue, even with the same setup. I've updated Mister main and changed configuration settings, but nothing helps! Meanwhile, all other cores work in color without any problems. Could you please tell me where I can ask this question to try to figure out the issue?

In addition, I am attaching an image with composite, S-Video, and RGB video signals.

I've just seen something weird with Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo (World 940223). Demo mode running, Ryu VS Chun Li. When the demo fight was about to end, Ryu performed a Shinkuu Hadouken, but Ryu didn't release the attack, the demo ended with Ryu stopped on before releasing the attack after a few seconds. Probably the normal behavior of the demo mode, still weird.

Like, if you both throw a punch you both get some effect, even if that effect varies by what and when you throw? I know that happens more in boxing games but I'm trying to come up with fighting game examples.

Yeah, MK was canned, couldn't get over the memory bandwidth issues. I also got my dual ram because of them. That's why I am not entirely convinced cps3 is possible on mister. Both Jotego and Coinop collection have mentioned cps3 might not fit. Hopefully next gen boards are on the way. Mars seems dead or on hold. But we should still see new boards, from Terasic, Taki or whatever Jotego is using now.

I know there are new dev boards being looked at as a base for new MiSTer hardware.

While I think there is general agreement that it should be designed off of another Terasic Altera-based development board, I really believe it should be a collaborative decision with significant input by clone manufacturers (ie. Retro Remake, Heber, etc.). That way we’re not fighting between a bunch of incompatible FPGA boards.

Oh, you don´t need to in sfa3, as the max super combo level uses only one button pressed instead of the 3 needed previously. Just realized playing on gamepad would be a nightmare to hit 3 buttons pressed.

Play alpha 2 on the PS1 core is better than using the CPS2 core then.

On Alpha 3 I meant other inputs, like Dhalsim's teleports or Zangief's Lariats. Those can be done with 2 buttons or still needs 3?

You can use the alternate button mappings to do 2 button macros but the Ui is very unintuitive

the main arcade folder is mostly 'main' games, with all the others in _alternative. problem is core devs get to determine what 'main game' is, so you get some cracked out choices where some are JP region, some are EU etc

So CPS 2 games are 384x224, which is 2:1, but they are made for 4:3 screens. On my morph, it shows it in widescreen (interger scaled). Is that correct? 2:1 is the AR the core is pumping out, but it feels stretched...
