Updating new legacy mra was just of updating crcs to match the new release. Some of the hacks have the patch embedded within the MRA which would take a bit more work.

MRA was just a text file - I opened up the .zip in 7zip and it already has a crc function. Then I renamed the .zip to avoid conflicting with old versions and boom

The theory behind arcade offset mras looks like it was to have the hack streamlined into the MRA itself, so you don’t have to download any new roms - it just patches the original as it loads it.

But these newer hacks are so substantial and I don’t think they release them as patches so it looks like they gave up and just made the MRA use the pre patched rom

That’s why all I had to do was update crcs

Yeah - latest SFZ3Mix is not going to work on MiSTer. They wrote a custom driver for MAME to let it run at an increased resolution, larger roms, new sample playback, etc.

It's not just an MRA issue.

Oh okay, sounds like the issue with KOF98AE for Neo Geo core. It has some custom things done to where it only works correctly partially on real hardware or FPGA

Honestly, Trilogy on PS1 with certain features toggled off may be a marginally better experience if you're not a competitive player.

yeah, the vast majority of games from ~late 80s to ~late 90s are JAMMA, it was a japanese arcade standard that caught on

That’s something a lot of people don’t realize about arcade cabinets, the actual cab is mostly interchangeable, a JAMMA wired cab can have countless different games just dropped in on the fly and changed out in just a couple minutes

😮 you were part of history! I was too young. I like mk4 because how dumb and powerful everything is. Even throwing weapons does a zillion damage if it lands. Love also the game literally having to break you apart from your opponent just because you’re doing mad dumb damage. The gibberish was also for me in its prime at that point, there’s even some gibberish where they’re actually just speaking Spanish.

Just like any other steam game, yeah. It's basically just a serial that tells steam to give you that corresponding store item

Most delisted steam games are still technically in the database, just the store page is disabled so you can't buy it

guile's Super in SF2. counted how many frames it took for me to activate it with the classic motion thats used in all games

down back, down foward, down back, any up direction+kick

and did one take with the alternative way of doing his super. which is

down, down foward, up back+kick

10 frames is the fastest i can do the classic motion consistently. his alternative motion was done in 4 frames. 🤯

i knew you would of course save some time just by looking at the notation but i was suprised by how much. you have a 7 frame window to cancel a normal to a super. whether your attack hits or whiff, its 7 frames. compare that to the 20 frame window you have to cancel normals to special. so if you ever wondered why doing supers in combos feels difficult compared to later titles, thats why.

Today was the first opportunity I had to test out some ps2 fighting games for the first time. So I had messed with capcom vs snk 2, capcom fighting Jam, and ex 3. I couldn’t really get deep into ex 3 because it was missing some visual effects and I just need to tweak some settings and see. Cvs2 was nice though. Fighting jam, I dunno how I feel yet.

It's bland lol I tried to give it a shot but it's just not that great.
If you want to dive more into PS2 fighting games, some suggestions: Bloody Roar 3 (JP version), Sengoku Basara X, Super Dragon Ball (it's not like Budokai), Fate unlimited codes, and VF4 Evolution.
I'd say Marvel 2 but the ps2 port is not great.

I watched a little of it, I think you were between defensive and offensive, and that meant a stronger offensive kinda bowled you over. I'd either be really defensive with guile or if you are that confident really offensive. But really, it's Guile. Why not just lame it out, he's built for that. Flash kick everything. Sonic boom pressure when you can. Poke when you can.

KoF's parents made them bring World Heroes but nobody will really talk to them. Not even Killer Instinct. But at least they didn't end up in jail like Bloodstorm, selling used cars like Timekillers or dead like Primal Rage.

I loved Tekken 7 but the online was trash, and from the impressions of the beta tests, 8 is still kind of trash online. I'm just done wasting my time with a game I can't play online properly.
That VF5 remaster was so disappointing in that regard, I'd love a proper VF4 or 5 release with good netcode
