Taki probably outsourced that to QMTech

aren't the L and R audio channels actually swapped on real saturn consoles as well
omg are they
fairly certain they are lol
well the super station port differs from the saturn port, so someone is reversed
Nah one of their documents about the pinouts was wrong so retro cable companies mess it up, Saturn didn’t ship with swapped audio, segas cables were right
Is there a list of games that "need" dual SDRAM to run correctly
^also wondering the same
yes it was a common problem back then
but when you have a rca/composite video cable, it doesnt matter if its flipped because the user can just change the order of plug in
the problem is when you have a rgb scart cable with hard coded pins
this is a hardware issue that no doubt takis engineers just copied on their pin out
yeah, they likely just copied the wrong schematic
the port on the saturn wasn't reversed, but sega published incorrect schematics originally, so third party cable makers flipped the pins. that was later corrected
but taki's hardware people probably just came across a bad schematic
If it's not on purpose, what a mistake after such a huge effort 🙁
Can’t say I’m surprised really
Easy to rectify in future revisions at least
But yeah a bit of a rip for those that already have one
It’s only the Saturn din , right? So couldn’t Taki make a short din-to-din adapter that flips the RnL around to work properly with normal cables?
But will he?
Do you even need that for most formats?
Unless someone told me I probably wouldn’t have ever noticed lol. I guess if we’re playing Burning Rangers I would?
Component/Composite solution is just flipping the L and R cables
Hah yeah
You’re gonna get that one guy who can’t do it because of the color mismatch
I guarantee you!
I always mix red and white colors
How does the MiSTer DIN cable system work in regards to also having the 3.5mm. Does having one turn off the other?
You mean SuperStation One DIN, right? (edit - I can't even get the name right)
Ah. Didn't know only Superstations had it. Thought maybe it was just a choice when you got your IO board
Yep, this is a problem exclusive to the SuperStation One, and it will be fixed in the next release (but will still affect all currently produced units)
Oh shite that would be infinitely easier
I hadn’t used the din cable until recently so I was thinking it was more of an HDMI type end to end so the cables were all internal
The people who'll be most mildly inconvenienced will be people who have din10 to SCART cables
din10 looks like dino, as in dinosaurs
it's a relatively harmless oversight. people will make a bigger deal about it than it deserves because The Internet™
With how most people have their speakers, I’m sure most people won’t even notice the RnL switch
I am positive that Joe from GameSack will make a big deal out of it. 😛
As long as they are angry in the thumbnail
So this problem is only in the DIN port of the superstation? No cables themselves ever had this problem? I thought that someone said some retro cables had this problem too
When developing my first Mini din 10 products, I would load Daytona USA and run against the left and right wall. Quick and dirty confirmation I wasn’t being led astray by incorrect online pinouts.
So Taki is aware and is going to fix the SS1 in a revision?
This is a really good method, partly because then you get to play Daytona
It is possible in principle to swap the L/R lines in software or HDL code, but I think they’d have to distribute SS1-specific cores to ship that
If you pair a Super Station One's reversed pins with the popular composite/s-video combo cable sold under multiple brands (including Retrobit) -- it would actually be correct. 😂
Two wrongs make a right?
It’s Taki, he will probably argue about it, stubbornly not admit the mistake and release another series of core forks 😜
For real though I hope they fix it, it’s a really nice console, I still kind of want one…
Wait, there are SS1 core forks already? O.o
There aren't any currently
Currently he says 😱😅🤷♂️
Actually I lie, there's a version of the Atari 7800 core with subcarrier support
Well, okay 🤪
Not sure if anyone actually cares or even knows about that though
I've always used Street Fighter Alpha (any of them). The audio pans hard left and right when you're on the edges of the screen.
Which taught many dumb kids what the mono setting was good for.
different core but, UN Squadron does that too
i love stereo separation
That's weird. I just do this in real life for confirmation that I am still alive
lets go away

Dammit I just looked up
pal crt
In this case it's two lefts making a right
I thought the PSX core was forked to support loading from an actual cd?
Not yet
Oh, that feature is still coming?
Supposedly slated for version 1.1 of the console mode ui (unclear if its part of the ui or just happening at the same time), whenever that is
Good point
im getting the same behavior from my saturn
Thank you so much for checking! Whilst I thought the core was correct it's always nice if someone with real hardware can double check just in case. I didn't get around to capturing the part at the end stage where they free nights, if you don't mind checking that for me when I do that would be very helpful as youtube footage was inconclusive.
Already raised a github ticket with your footage of the character select so hopefully that can be looked into at some point.
I shall be back within the end of the week, I can take a look after that.
I want to check if the issue is present (or not) depending on the VDPx chips revisions.
apropos of absolutely nothing, I have dumped the SMPC
@ripe valley @green swift is this for you?
#games-and-patches message
Made a SEGA chat for the general sega talk, forgot to post it here
System Mangler and Peripheral Churner? What does that microcontroller even do?
It creates a lot of trouble for Saturn emulator developers.😀 But now that won't be a problem anymore.
I hadn't realised it was such a troublesome part 😅
@rough oracle What a nice surprise! Dr_Abrasive in person! Thanks for the SMPC documentations.
That will be more for srg320, which is the creator of the core and our specialist on the system here.
But I can take a proper look on it tomorrow.
oh awesome thanks abrasive!
wow we have like, all the best saturn scene celebrities in here now
emulsions are good too!
I wouldn't try to emulsify a Sega Saturn though
