Hmm? I'm not near my mister
I downloaded the file pinned and unzipped and copied it to _arcarde. I copied the rbf to the arcade folder. Roms and stv bios to the mame folder. Do they need to be in a separate stv folder or straight into the mame folder ?

old pasture
somber jacinth
#

I don't specifically remember any mra files I thought that's what I downloaded from the GitHub page

old pasture
#

Select them from arcade on osd.

somber jacinth
#

So I don't select the Saturn core that I placed in the mame folder?

old pasture
#

I'm hoping to work on a tutorial video later.

Ok I'll have a look at my memory card when I can and see what the hell I've placed where lol

Saturn fans, why is there a custom patch program required just for Saturn games? I mean I'll play ball, I've got it installed and I don't mind using it at all. But why do that instead of using xdelta or whatever else is out there?

#

If the answer is "because they want to", I totally don't mind. They make the patches, they call the shots. I was just curious is all.

#

@winter phoenix ^

wise brook
#

The Saturn patcher utilities is really good tho?
You can put your original disk into a PC and the software will apply a patch file to your very own game

wise brook
#

As well as a whole bunch of Saturn, specific features such as region patching, etc

#

You’re not gonna get that on LIPS

burnt matrix
#

ohhhhhh

#

Like it autopatches the region or it applies different patch per region?

#

sorry for all the questions, I always wondered and finally I'm in a community of super smart Sega fans where I can ask lol

winter phoenix
# burnt matrix Saturn fans, why is there a custom patch program required just for Saturn games?...

The SSP does not rely on specific rips of a game, so it's less picky than Xdelta. SSP also can include metadata linking the patch back to its SegaXtreme resource page so the patcher can let you know whether the patch you're about to apply is out of date. Additionally, the patcher can display a readme file if one is included in the patch. It also has some options for how you want to make your patch, like making it region free (might break some ODEs or emulators or whatever), separating tracks (not separating tracks might break some ODEs/emulators), saving the files in whatever file format you want (BIN/CUE, CCD, whatever), etc.

winter phoenix
#

yeah, it's good. you just have to install .NET 5.0 on your system, which some people have a hard time with.

burnt matrix
#

So it's nothing specific to how the games need to be patched because they're Saturn games. It's because they saw an opportunity to deliver a better experience?

winter phoenix
#

the SSP also lets patch makers very easily make new patches by just dragging and dropping edited files onto the program and clicking a button to have it make the patch

winter phoenix
burnt matrix
#

This all makes a ton of sense, thank you.

winter phoenix
#

That part isn't perfect, but the developer has been busy with other stuff and hasn't gotten around to totally fixing it

burnt matrix
#

As an ignoramous, the patcher seems pretty perfect to me lol

winter phoenix
#

He's had to make bespoke versions of SSP to accomodate certain games that people wanted to make patches for

burnt matrix
#

that's wild, wow

winter phoenix
#

when the original games are formatted in weird ways

burnt matrix
#

So I didn't know about all the features it supports. Sounds like it should be the standard for patching.

#

As an end user, it's a very nice tool and the features it brings are huge quality of life improvements.

#

@winter phoenix My two cents, the benefits of SSP should be made more clearly. Or maybe it is and again, I'm an ignoramous lol.

Or maybe that doesn't matter at all. Just speaking for myself but I just always assumed they did it that way because they wanted to.

#

So I was like, whatever, guess I'll install yet another program lol.

winter phoenix
burnt matrix
#

Yeah true, I've made zero effort to educate myself on it lol.

#

@winter phoenix if you ever want someone to gush about how amazing Sega is and how they're sorry for not being there when Sega needed their fans the most, I'm your guy.

winter phoenix
#

if they'd made Sonic 3D Blast and VectorMan 2 Saturn exclusives, though, I would have been a Saturn owner Christmas 1996

winter phoenix
#

They released the DC less than two years after I got my N64, I couldn't justify asking my parents for a new console so soon! By the time I was ready for a new one, DC was dead 😦

burnt matrix
#

Well, you dodged a bullet. It was an amazing two years but also literally just two years lol.

#

And most of the best games got ported to other consoles anyways.

winter phoenix
#

yep. I bought a few of those for my GC, too (Sonic Adventure 1 and 2 and Skies of Arcadia)

haughty dove
#

Buying a Saturn for Vector Man 2 and 3D Blast would have been hilarious in hindsight.

#

Almost as funny as me buying a PSP because all of the Mega Man X games were supposed to be getting remakes.

#

Or me buying a 3DS for Mega Man Legends 3.

#

Or me kickstarting Mighty Number 9… wait, why am I a fan of this shitty franchise?!

Anybody recently play Arcade Gears Vol. 4 - ImageFight & XMultiply (Japan)? when play x-multiply, the score is not fully displayed but it is partially in the overscan on the bottom of the screen, on the top of the game there seems to be to much space. Hmm then again i also see this in emulation, so guess is it a game issue. This is running latest stable core, after running update all today. connection hdmi.

Is STV not going to go into update_all?

wise brook
#

that would require the update all core to have stv functionality no?

specifically that the next revision on update all will ideally only come out once the stv games all work

slate karma
#

Are there ways to change dipswitch settings for ST-V games, at least for now?

warped saddle
#

most of the game settings are in eeprom

#

you have to go into the test menu, 'each game test' -> system assignments

hollow snow
#

So if Im using a usb saturn controller with no extra buttons for coin. Can I use a keyboard for that or Im assuming the s-tv being arcade games dont use all the buttons on a saturn controller. Are some of them safe to set as a coin button and never be used for s-tv?

naive whale
#

Some use six buttons so I recommend using the shoulders as coin and test. But that still leaves you short the service button. You’ll need test and service to navigate the test menu effectively

#

Max you need is D pad + six face buttons + start + coin + test + service. So 10 buttons max

ancient surge
#

With a generic SEGA Saturn controller, you can repurpose the L and R buttons for coin, test, or service. But that means you are always one button short.

#

If you have one of those aftermarket controllers with the extra inputs, then yeah you can fit everything needed.

hollow snow
#

I never use test on arcade core and service maybe once to change settings the way I want them and never touch it again

naive whale
hollow snow
naive whale
#

Really the problem can be overcome with an OG Sega pad by just setting the games to free play too

#

Then the coin button is unnecessary

hollow snow
#

Ok I know others feel this way too but I hate using freeplay. Part of the arcade experience to me is popping quarters in even if its just a button. Yeah it may sound silly to some.

tawny compass
#

There's the M30 Xbox version. It has extra buttons compared to the original M30, the only drawback is that is wired (not for me though).

hollow snow
#

But I have tried just setting all the games I could to freeplay and ended up switching back for that reason

hollow snow
tawny compass
#

Another "all purpose" controller I recommend is the Hori Fighting Commander Octa, specially the Xbox version. Works wonders on N64 games.

tacit viper

The recoil on them is very good and the gun is balanced well, but the setup and the white boarder sucks when you know you don't have to have it. Sinden drivers have issues on Mister too where they partially load and you have to cold reboot it between switching cores

wise brook
#

made the whole reason i built an ironclad itx setup pointless

I do keep an SD card just for the sinden lightgun. Haven't really updated it in months but everything works. I don't think there is a Saturn sinden build yet, it wasn't available the last time I checked their GitHub so no reason for me to update yet.

Every time somebody else does a PR / code change, you have to re-sync, then figure out how to re-apply your own stuff if it gets overwritten.

Doing a git pull can handle some of that, but I've never been confident with using it.

The tweak for 480i was simple enough in the end. I could probably just do it as an Issue, rather than an actual PR.

Good to see Batman running, btw. I thought that was one which might not run, because of the missing sound hardware.

Today, I showed a friend the MiSTer.
I wanted to demonstrate the fast timings setting, so I loaded up DIgital Dance Mix, a game that, as far as I knew, struggled to run with original timings. Namie Amuro would sometimes not dance at all with original timings.

Lo and behold, it was running reasonably well with original timings (though still better on fast timings).

I just finished a live stream using @ripe valley 's latest compile. It works great. So many games work. An amazing experience.

Thanks @mortal mist for stopping by too.

It's always been a pleasure... and dome you forget it. 😉

I hear ya. Me too.

The unilateral decision to unceremoniously shut it down with no announcement to the rest of the community was always a sticking point with me and the other staff members. It felt like a shitty thing to do... but it was the admin's decision, and that was that.

The process of creating the torrents for each new MAME release was pretty much automated by that point, so that's how it lives on.

grandia has probably accumulated more playtime by being used as a test for mister than the game had when it was supposed to be a game

It also doesn't help that you can't skip the intro

It's hard for me to count how many times I've watched it

ripe valley

I can't stand that intro anymore...

thorn pagoda

you can make a save pretty quickly near the start to skip over it

Only once upon a time we didn't know that flicker occurs outside the intro sequence 😅

We really need to ban this Grandia discussion. Like it's an obvious RAM bottleneck problem, but people want to shove the square shape into the round hole.

wise brook

i prefer the movement of wall/floor with 1_1 but the differences are subtle at best.

and i got hate for it

If he wants to work on the RAM issue, that is his will.

He could also ignore the issue ticket if he wanted or even close it, but he has an idea to improve the situation.

It's not up to us to say anything, or even argue, but to help him as best we can.

wise brook
#

before posting

warped saddle
#

really his initial deal was he couldn't reproduce it at all

wise brook
#

it blows my mind

high bramble
#

Of course it's similar. For the longest time it was 'obvious' that Saturn was 'impossible' on the DE10-Nano. Then, it was 'obvious' that it would require dual-SDRAM. Now, here we are, with one game exhibiting problems with single-SDRAM configurations. Naturally, some are holding out hope that a work-around will be found, or at the very least a 'good enough' solution... such as the one currently being discussed now.

wise brook

4 different misters

it's also possible it was happening to him but it was subtle enough he didn't quite see it or something

wise brook
#

every variable i could find did not fix it, to the point i was feeling like anyone who claimed it was working for them must have been running the old core that still worked right

ripe valley
#

I think we should be more than happy that he works once again on the Single RAM issue on that game.
And the 3DO core will not be and was never his only objective of 2025.
