The console do this when it is turned on with the disc lid opened.
Works fine
Could this be something with the differences of MLC, SLC, or 3D NAND in flash drives, SSDs and microSD cards? Could it be why some cause flickering and others don't?
Could also just play Grandia on the PS1 🤷♂️
I do too! I own it and the Switch port. But I’m probably going to play the Saturn version, haha.
i just like seeing mysteries solved i don't even want to play grandia 😛
Yeah! It’s great seeing the community working together to suss out these issues.
I'm doing a fresh install on this sandisk card , I'll see what comes out of it soon
yeah that'll be interesting
freshly fusioned and it still does it? even weirder!
It was robby and him mentioning all the non saturn platforms
what if that card is actually too fast
yes, format , fusion, update all , game, bios , that;s all
- latest core
is that the only sandisk gold you've got
I think I have another one, will check it
does this happen on any version of grandia? i want to test it myself now
yes, same for jp and eng translation
I am preparing a second sandisk card
same grade
just installing the latest core, i have a sandisk black
damn the grandia issue is now so old no one remembers i did all these things mentioned above
i even tried downloading the game on to a different operating system and different transfer methods to see if i could stop it
I am sorry that we cannot find the cause.
Happy S32X day 😉
happens on my setup too
thanks for checking!
I'm searching some more VDP2 issues at the moment.
Nothing really complex, most probably some masking priority issues so far.
Happening on the sandisk silver too
hmm
and on both my misters
same for my second sandisk sd card
i tried bin/cue
i was bin/cue, the translated patch
once the intro finally ends, turn around and look for a nearby house, go inside and run around, you should see the flicker
its weird its almost like it flickers when you run over specific points on the floor
yea
I see some texture flickering during the intro when the charactersare speaking
yeah , same
After the intro when i go to the house and go around i see some wall textures flickering.
interesting
I don't have any problems with others games. I have sandisk 512 GB
which color sandisk? though it seems to not matter
same here fwiw this is the only game i've got issues in
There's no flicker for me using this
I will add the results of my tests on github
Can you confirm :
- last unstable core 20240824?
- Game version : Grandia (Japan) (Disc 1) (1M)?
- Mister Main Stable?
Latest unstable saturn core, I think it's stable main, it's the English translation, disc 1, and bin/cue
I would like to try the same iso you are using, can you send me a pm?
I test different cards with the same version of the game on the same de10 and have different results
Ah ok so it seems to be related to sdcard ...
I am now checking on another de10
i've heard anecdotally that sandisk cards can be electrically noisy
It would be faster if you could skip the fmv
Kioxia = no flickering
On the second nano
At this point I will end the tests, I only have a problem with Sandisk
Samsung ok too
Samsung evo select says you are wandering the path of desperation
thanks kuba, hopefully we've given srg some hint to work off
I would very much like to see this problem solved
it appears since which release or it is present since the day Grandia is playable ?
since 20240417
the strange judder on the floor texture is actually worse than the flickering thing though since thats everywhere
Yes and this problem does not occur when there is no case of flicker
Unofficial build.
I've upstream'd the changes on the SH2 module from the 32x to the Saturn one.
Some clock dividers changed and a busy state changed on the IBUS.
I've tested the core the last 2 hours, I've not seen something break nor any regression so far.
on my side with sdcard sandisk I don't have flickering at this part
i don't seem to have a single none-sandisk sdcard in the house lol
i even threw out whatever the ones that came with the mister were
So the texture flickering appeared with this version? Could be interesting to know thé change with previous.
yeah thats the first build it happens in
someone just posted on github they have a samsung card and have the flickering so i guess that blows that theory up
changes in 20240417
Why the logs from months ago?
those are the commits from the build where it broke
its a shame saturn core has no fps counter, i'd be curious if the flickering coincides with framerate drops
it feels like the game is dropping frames all over but that might just be the ground texture thing
I also have flickering using Samsung Evo Plus microSD Card (2020) 512GB with the latest stable build
I see the problem is quite popular 😄
If you could all test with the previous version 20240409, that could be great.
And confirm or not that you have the flicker during the end of the intro at least or inside the museum with a save file.
If everyone say the flickering is gone, I could try to revert all changes on the VDP1/2, one by one.
And see when it breaks.
That could potentially help srg320 in tracking the issue.
That could be long and fastidious, but if it's necessary, let's do it later.
But I want that confirmation before.
are these compatible with current main?
errr.. maybe? :/
Should be.
I'm not available for the next hour, so I leavethe tests up to you.
And will do the hard work later reverting and compiling.
i will do test now
I started testing
maybe tomorrow new update from SRG320 with this change 🙂
For me there is no flickering , in the intro as well as in the buildings - 20240409 - sandisk card
anyone has a link to the save handy?
Same as kuba. No flickering in the intro with 20240409 build - sandisk card too
Okay, at least 2 people are agree here.
I'm launching a build with the VDP2 revert first.
Let's call it within 30 mins to 1H.
And later tonight, I will revert this time the VDP1 changes - if we can't see anything breaking with the VDP2 change.
good plan 🙂
no problems and the VDPs draw updates are in sync
Perhaps i could test with 20240417 to confirm flickering appears?
the more tests the better
Same for me ( sandisk)
Ready to test VDP2 revert build
Just saw that!
happy saturnsday!

is grandia good? i'm charmed AF by the intro
Love how srg320 closed like 4 issues with those commits, maybe even more 😄
Yeah, he's really impressive
Did someone say Saturnday!?

But a tthis point, the individual outstanding issues are probably getting few and far between, so probably one commit addresses more than one issue just because it's only one thing broken
can confirm there 20240409 has no flicker on my end
Grandia is indeed excellent, one of the top tier
Can also confirm once again that the flicker does not occur on 20240409 build.
I was also the one who wrote on Github that I do indeed use the same kind of samsung card that Kuba did, but mine is 512gb, but do experience flicker.
Also srg320 recently replied that he believes the floor object desync issue is non related to the flickering, and probably just a part of the game. I am not so sure he watched the videos captured from a real saturn?
pretty sure its not because we have vids of it not happening
My previous post on the issue also suggests that its its started on the 20240417 build, as mentioned above.
agree
or well, it might be two different issues, and fixing one might not nessecarily fix the other. But it seems like the desync should not occur either way.
yeah i think he's right that its two issues
@mortal mist Have you tried to booting Grandia from USB to check how it looks booting from there?
I have not
storage was probably a red herring
although... well i guess so far everyone with flicker is using an sdcard
I only get desync on sandisk, desync does not occur when there is no flicker problem
I can make another 10 films, but I don't want to keep repeating it.
no , i tried four sd cards
sandisks = flickering
kioxia, samsung = no flickiering
though others have reported flickering on samsung, and no flickering on sandisk
there isn't really any clear pattern
maybe it is the size of the SD?
all are 256gb
mine are both 512
and my flickering samsung card is 512
I'm leaving this topic , I'll wait for Zet-sensei , maybe we can find out what spoiled Grandia
yep
Yeah, him reverting the changes one by one and give us testbuilds seems to be the best way to pinpoint the issue at this stage
Some KoF games have sprite corruption/flicker depending on the size of the memory expansion used. I think 1M is safest?
Did you guys test grandia with several different sizes in settings?
Yes , i tried every settings
Hey new core. Fancy
Pad off / on , etc
So hot right now!
@mortal mist always walking the extra mile on tests
I mean the Saturn core is so hot right now...not me...the core
new core and still having the same problems with Grandia and Magic Knight Rayearth. Running my games off an external usb drive
Wow, now that I know of the floor object desync issue, its really noticable when just running around in town.
I was busy testing some code.
Sorry for the delay.
EDIT : Removed as the test is negative.
I've just reverted the VDP2 to a state from 20240409.
I need someone to test the code and report if the flicker occurs anymore.
The VDP1 will be quite challenging to revert without breaking anything, too much changes since then.
At the moment, I need to revert 2 functions but won't compile.
I'm too tired today, and I have a pretty important meeting tomorrow morning.
Thanks , i will check it soon
loading game on core right now
moebius intro almost over
The task is more tough than I though, bissecting code is 'intense'.
no change
and flicker
I get the feeling that it flickers even more
Okay, so it's inside one of the 3 big functions that I need to revert, fun stuff.
Thanks for the report, I have some hints where I could be, but I must take some rest at the moment.
Thanks for all your work
The real hero is srg320, I'm just doing some copy/paste and trying to understand parts of the code from my previous knowledge listening to some past emudevs talks.
3 issues down.
🎉
A thing I noticed with the Saturn core is that when I tested 2 games that run horrible in real Saturn like Suiko Enbu and Marvel Super Heroes... In the core they run full speed.
they are playable
improvements on the saturn are forbidden
Improvements are fine but the goal is accuracy
of course
I know it's because there is not full accuracy
but It was great to can play Suiko Enbu at full speed.
the performance of that game on a real saturn is really poor
that's why we got fuunsaiki
keep the core around for your own personal use 😛
The only Fuunsaiki I know of:
I've done 6 stages on Ninja Hayate without any freeze, on all previous versions of the core the game froze after the first stage.
Maybe the issue on Time Gal is also fixed with the 20240902 core.
oh crap the Grandia thing might be related to storage? who'd have guessed... well guess i gotta test some stuff out now.
will also try to keep my eyes peeled for the VDP reversion test builds 👀
What is this and where can I buy it? 8
I don't even like horses but that is super cool. 😁
That is Fuunsaiki, a horse that pilots a giant robot in the shape of a horse from an anime called G Gundam
In model kit form lol
You know, I didn’t know what to expect when checking in on the Saturn chat. But learning about Fuunsaki, a horse that pilots a giant robot in the shape of a horse was definitely not on my bingo card.
Wait until you learn about the giant robot in the shape of a windmill from that show…
You are in the Saturn channel, don’t forget Sonic Wings Special that features a dolphin flying a jet!
Granted, I am surprised I haven’t seen an edit of this yet:
Now you're speaking Robby's language!
Why is there a baby flying a plane, that’s silly
@ripe valley This is happening with X-Men vs StreetFighter (3M) with today’s unstable single e double ram builds. It was working with 24.08.17 unstable build.
Seens it can’t load the game opening
Now that is a proper fat baby!
Burberry
Thanks!
Crossposting from the help thread:
Has anyone experienced sync jitter/slanted video in the top of the screen on the latest unstable build?
similar to what is described here:
This is the Saturn channel
They're all Nintendos to me
I'm sorry, to clarify: I'm experiencing a similar problem in the latest unstable Saturn core. Just linked the megadrive page because the issue appears the same on my monitor
There is also 480i problems currently on the Saturn core.
Hopefully things work themselves out. My Ikegami monitor can be picky with sync
Here’s an example
Hm appears on the last “update all” build as well so not a new issue I guess I didn’t notice before
Something broke on 20240824 version.
Once the game works again, I will rebase and redo the VDP1 revert as I wanted to try.
Layer by layer if necessary.
thanks for checking !
Seems like Die Hard Arcade works well now but at some points in the game the loading times are one minute Plus (whenever the scene with the main villain on the phone loads) is it just me?
It's known since months.
I will try to partially revert the SCU changes for Digimon S and see what it does.
When I tried the last builds, I've seen the SCU skipping some frames even in-game on X-Men vs. SF.
So must be an IO access problem.
A thanks, didn't have much time to play this year
As I've finished my remote meeting early, I have some time for testing Time Gal with the 20240902 version.
My tests with Ninja Hayate are positive.
I was just lucky yesterday, the issue remains on the two games after 5 times on each today.
A new version of the SCSP testrom will be available a a later time.
I took down the (older) downloads at the moment.
Just a quick note - we are also waiting to have something final before showing the testrom to the software emulators developers - it will be done in due time.
We will be talking to them directly as we have the direct connections with them.
Thanks.
I tried to revert some modules of the core to previous states but it was infructuous about the results.
We will need t see with srg320 directly, sorry.
Reverting the VDP1 changes without touching other modules is too complex for me at the moment.
Would it make sense to revert between the good version and the next version? Your main target is grandia so other fixes aren’t necessary.
Or is that what you were doing?
I tried to fix X-Men vs. SF first, the SCU changes reverted go a little bit further but won't fix the issue completely.
But let's that aside now.
For Grandia, too much changes on all the modules, only reverting the VDP1 won't work and even won't compile anymore.
I thought it could be easier but I'm not skilled enough at the moment for doing it whole, I must confess.
might help if you write some details about this on the ticket
never know what could jog a thought
I've tested too many things these last 24 hours, I will clean up what I wanted to do and try to explain later.
How much time spends building on Quartus?
25-26 mins each time.
I've done like 15 builds since yesterday night.
Same for me, about 25 minutes of compilation
the core that take the more time to compile is Sharp MZ around 40 to 60 minutes depending of the CPU 🤣
¿What about worse-case slack? Is positive? I imagine with balanced build
someone please make this baby face an emoji
Wow, why does that one take so long? I assumed that would be quick as it is a simple machine on paper
normally it is because there is plenty of clocks on the core that impact the time of the compilation
X men vs SF - Apart from the intro problem game works, but I hear that the sound is not quite correct
sega rally(usa) sometimes the sound of the car engine disappears, sometimes an extraneous looping sound appears...
it hasn't happened to me yet, I played yesterday and today
Is that with the stable core?
I report here that onetime in mountain stage when i hit the wall i did not have the sound of the hit. Perhaps it is the same thing.
this is on the latest unstable core
so it's very likely that sometimes it can happen
you mean like on a real saturn or on the core?
I havent had it happen on a real saturn
core
Same for me on the last unstable.
I think it related to scsp recent change.
More about some timings with the SCU.
Pyon Pyon Kyaruru no Mahjong Biyori has weirdly quiet audio during the intro song. I wonder if that is accurate to original hardware or another audio bug.
I can't reproduce it on my side
It's random.
Sometimes I could trigger it when doing a pause during my gameplay.
Dual or single ?
ok , I was able to reproduce it on the second and third stage after pressing pause
The issue was already there on 20240824.
Issue opened, I wasn't available before.
For me the music continued to work but the sfx disappeared (sound when the car hit the wall was off)
See you later.
Alligator?
I don't know what that means, but thank you for the SEGA love
Oh these are all audio system tests
interesting
I have this setup rn
Always wondered if someone could hack it and control the Saturn sound HW via MIDI
So does this mean it lost some ground?
I have only used it with the two piano learning titles
https://segaretro.org/Saturn_Music_School
Newer tests, some extreme cases tested now.
Will these tests help fix the flicker in grandia?
Dang
how mednafen handles them ?
Been a while, crocodile.
thank you 😉
SSF, Kronos & NOVA can't handle the tests at the moment.
terrible emulator, will delete immediately
it is better for KX Write Sematics ^^
there are some bugs in the changes for scsp ,that's why there is a problem with x men vs street fighter
here is the core with the latest changes but with the scsp code from 20240817
that was the last thing I thought about because there were only positive results during the scsp tests
I thought more about a SCU problem firstly, but I'm not an expert on that question.
Thanks.
X-Men vs. SF works once again and I've made an update on the issue log.
Let's test sega Rally too.
I'm doing it.
thanks
Team work.
single sdram version , if anyone also wants to test
Seems to work OK for the Dual RAM.
I can't reproduce the 2 issues with the revert.
I will check later if the DMA changes are in fault.
Need to test missing sfx?
Sure!
OK
I love seeing these sheets turn green. And going "Noo not PLFO, how could this happen, run the tests again!"
I've done 3 internal builds so far (subtracting/reverting part by part the SCSP changes done on 20240824 from the 20240902 SCSP code).
Almost there, last build for today before doing something else.
More SCSP tests! 😲
Everyone’s new favorite game is Sega Custom Sound Processor Test
Hey, don't knock it. My favorite game on Steam is Store.
Newest unstable core I’m getting graphical glitches and a freeze in Astra Superstars, Die Hard Arcade still goes to a black screen before the firemen fight. Is anyone else experiencing the same? Wondering if I should submit a bug report on GitHub
#1046941029296779344 message
and what glitches in Astra Superstars?
Title screen, character select. When I entered a fight it froze.
I can grab some screenshots tonight if helpful
I am not familiar with this game , what should I look at? Looks ok to me
Works fine
What ram cart setting did you use? This game is optional on ram cart usage.
I tried none/1/4mb cart , single and dualsdram latest unstable
Die hard arcade is very freezy between levels now
I froze between the elevator fight and the next area twice today
Ah so it’s not just me. Good to know!
I’ll try astra later and experiment with ram cart settings. I believe I had 4mb selected
But how’s the audio? 😜
So far, I took the 2024-09-02 source code, removed every line of the changes on the SCSP done on 2024-08-24.
Creating an hybrid between the 2024-08-17 version of the SCSP (shared by kuba yesterday) but with all the additions from the 2024-09-02.
I needed to patch up some functions for the compilation of that core.
At the moment, the core regressed with scratchy sounds and PCM playback is partallly broken.
But, the core is stable for launching the games, even SEGA Rally (the SCSP receives and send signals without breaking) and X-Men vs. Street Fighter (the introduction could play completely but with strange noises).
On the SCSP test, the DMA is now broken, but the 2024-09-02 SCSP changes don't brake other games.
I will try to patch up the PCM playback function later.
Most probably, srg320 will fix the issue within like 5-10 mins, but I want to learn some basics on the core through trials-and-errors by myself too.
I was trying to play with the code today to get to the flicker problem for Grandia , but unfortunately I outgrew it at one point 😄
I've gained the sound once more + PCM playback, but the core is failing on X-Men and SEGA Rally.
I've isolated 2 possible functions inside the SCSP source code that could be the culprit.
On the DMA (direct access memory) side, I've launched 2 compilations at the same time, we will see the culprit in the next hour (and maybe how to partially fix it).
good work!
Can someone test this? Die hard arcade. Current core. Look at the time stamp listed in the photo to see the diff. It’s so confusing

Sneaky YouTuber, trying to get views. I know your game!
🤣 eat me
But seriously, I can’t see anything. What’s different?
Except maybe the transition to black after the title screen
I just watched it at 0.25x several times. Do you mean the flashing colours which look different? (Might be out of sync slightly due to timing differences between the boards)
Or the shaking of the logo looking a bit different? Again, could be timing or some random number type thing
Shaking logo
I’ve never noticed a diff in runs
But I’ve also never paid attention
Maybe there’s a random number generator varying the scale
Fun observation from someone. I did not even notice the shake. You get “blind” when editing
I guess that’s the benefit of >1k people watching the video 🙂
(Close to 2k at the moment)
2.5K. YT iterates the counter slower vs studio. Always weird
And yes extra eyes ALWAYS help
Does it happen everytime?
Dunno. Not in my office to check tonight. Just found out an hour ago
Wild, so in person it looks like the left hand clip on both mister and real Saturn hardware
But my phone can’t record it
And it ends up looking more like the right hand clip
So confusing lol
It’s like my phone is fucking with the video or it’s just the wrong frame rate vs shutter speed?
Bottom line mister and Saturn look identical
Just capturing it is fucked
I wonder if the capture card had a blip
But you’d expect that in the whole image not just one portion. Only time I’ve seen one section get “weird” was on a midway board and that’s because the refresh rate changes momentarily
The first one is mister and is closer but not quite what it looks like with your eye meat
The second one is real Saturn and not at all what it looks like when not recorded on the phone
A Saturn mystery! What do we do Scooby
@drifting frigate got any thoughts?
Maybe the title can interlace itself in some odd mode?
Both of these look the same in person when using your eyes
Wonder what the phone is doing and why it’s different between these TVs
Probably Tim Apple is tweaking my videos
You got the Covid vaccine and the die hard title is triggering the latent chip inside you probably
I’d dig out my STV and throw it in a cab but that’s effort and probably also can’t be recorded
Lemme grab a cap of real saturn direct.
Schrödinger’s cat game; changes if you observe it
Probably does the opposite if you don’t look
Super position die hard
solved
both animate identically on my export...YT compression bullshit
so somehow when YT stepped on it...the left side stopped wiggling
My OG saturn capture is already in the pipeline. So you're getting it anyway.
ill take a hit off the Saturn pipe any day
You got your problems... I got my Sat pipe <dun dun Dah dun dun dun Dah dun>
That’s MiSTer 2…WeeZer. No clue what it stands for
PiNKerToN - Pi, Naomi, Kernomee, Towns, Nxbox.
Hi guys, I've asked in numerous places, trying to find out if this wheel is supported in the Saturn core, it's in the settings, but doesn't seem to do anything, although the wheel has been confirmed as working by the seller Cheers.
analog snac support was added 5 months ago iirc, now i’m out for work but in 11 hours i’ll get mine setup and double check
That would be great, thank you, the sega pad works, the mission pad works, the 3d pad works in analogue mode, just cannot get the steering to work, I have a shuttle mouse coming as well, I know there all in the settings, I look forward to your reply.. thank you.
you don’t have to adjust any controller input settings with the OSD. Just turn on SNAC.
remember with SNAC enabled the linux side of MiSTer doesn’t even see the controller. It goes under the operating system to interact with the core directly.
SNAC is on But the start button doesn't seem to do anything, it might be a faulty wheel, but it was said to be working, I'm hoping it is faulty in a way, but if you could try yours I would appreciate it..
Saturn SNAC port (or at least the MiSTerAddons one that I have) is notoriously finicky, might be worth wiggling the connector a bit if you haven’t tried that already
I'll give it another go, but I'll try moving it, I normally just plug in the controller and away it goes 😁
If I remember well when I read the SNAC code months ago, the steering wheel and the Shuttle mouse aren't implemented.
No keyboard, no Multitap, no Gun & no Mouse/Arcade Racer on the SMPC SNAC code.
Just the detection and enumeration for the OSD so far.
Efforts are on the SCSP + VDP1/VDP2 at the moment.
I thought with it in the OSD might mean it's in there, I suppose the game is waiting 👍
After 2 days tracking down the issue for SEGA Rally and X-Men vs. SF, I may have found the issue.
14 builds later & playing with the code : by reverting everything on the SCSP side from 2024-09-02 to 2024-08-17 manually + testing & adding function by function, I've tracked down where the code fails.
I've learned many things on the Saturn console internal behaviors during that little time, even after getting around the software emulation teams these last 25 years.
The issue is somewhere here, on the SCSP loop functions.
On the left, the 2024-09-02 version.
On the right, my current code with remains of the 2024-08-17 version.
Like I said yesterday, most probably srg320 will fix it within 5-10 mins, but I wanted to learn with the hard way.
Luckily, it's not the DMA which is at fault, that would be much tricky to fix.
That is impressive work!
Someone near me is selling a pair of Sega Saturn shoes
DuckDuckGo. Privacy, Simplified.
What the hell that’s awesome
Doesn’t scream Sega Saturn to me though
Needs more dithering
Can I just have the box?
I have tried the Shuttle mouse and it works, you have to keep SNAC off start game with a USB controller switch SNAC on and it works with the mouse on Virtua Cop 2, ill try the steering wheel the same way, see what happens.😁
Okay.
works with Virtua cop 1 as well, House of the dead just pauses when i try it that way, but it shows promises. alas the steering wheel still didn't work..
Saturn wheel uses the same frequency as the 3D controller and doesn't have analog triggers. I haven't tried it on the latest core, but while my wheel works on real hardware, the plug is finnicky, which makes it a pain to use with some extension cores and adapters.
i cannot get mine to do anything, so I'm hoping the core can be tested and a yes or no comes out of it, i cannot see anything official that says it is or it isn't compatible. My 3d pad works good in 3d mode.
I’ve used the Saturn wheel a lot but I haven’t tried it again with the recent core updates
Any idea which core you used? , normal core, or unstable, duel ram ? Thanks.
There are no differences with duel ram.
(https://github.com/MiSTer-devel/Saturn_MiSTer/issues/173) not sure if this was implemented.
Quote... The digital pads, 3d pad, steering wheel, mouse, mission sticks etc have been tested and all work.
i didnt think it would but thought add it in there.

If those all are working, I don't see why the arcade racer would not work. But I don't have access to one to try out.
Depending if the code was added, which I'm sure it was..
Not sure if it's currently using Blue1's code. But I've tested all devices via snac on previous builds and they all worked 🙂
So you have the wheel working ?
I have that race “wheel” (yoke?) if you want me to try it with the core later
Currently, no.
If you could, I'm trying to figure if it should work or it's faulty, but confirmation would be good.
I know the wheel works with a real saturn, haven’t tried any real Saturn peripherals with the core though I did just get some SNAC adapters in case guns get working at some point
I have the mission stick and the arcade stick and the 3d pad and they all work, and shuttle mouse which works on a couple of games.
I have twin sticks too but I’m sure they would work it’s just a digital pad
That's listed in the menu I'm sure.
The menu is just a placeholder.
Also, when in SNAC, the device type selections does nothing
I understand that part of it, I have SNAC for everything, just not sure if it should work.
No dice
Digital pad works fine, racing wheel didn’t work
Digital on the wheel? , the start button didn't do anything for me. Thanks for checking.
No I mean a digital pad via SNAC
Just confirming my SNAC was fine
But the wheel responded to nothing
Not even start
Ah I'm with you, same as mine, no need to take it apart then 😁
Yeah I’ve used that wheel on my real saturn so it’s definitely the core
Thanks for testing . I'll raise it in GitHub.
Happy Saturnday!
You just made me check the repo 😂
DC North American release anniversary is coming up ! 9.9.99
Haha I just did too
I haven’t run the numbers but I think srg320 tends to push in the late afternoon over here
My bones are rapidly turning to dust
30 years for Saturn and PSX coming up...
9-9-99 to 1-3-01 in the US. Didn’t even last a year and a half lol.
Concord: "Hold my beer..."
Better to burn out than fade away
Dreamcast had so much untapped potential. It’s a real shame it didn’t stick around longer
Mr. Sanshiro, I don't feel so good...(turns to dust)
I always thought the Saturn/ Dreamcast would be the full arcade at home experience, with Sega's Outrun etc..
Could have been a neat way of shifting unsold inventory
Combine the boards of the Saturn and Dreamcast and then just sell arcade ports
Rather than increasingly awful Sonic games on other platforms
Does this core currently have Y/C support? I can't seem to sync to it with my CRT. I'm using a passive Y/C MikeS11 adapter
Saturn Outrun has a (hidden) 60 fps mode. Arcade just 30 fps
Well, arcade is 60/30, not exactly 30
I was all in : (
100% JP/NA/PAL collection?
I seem to remember something about that, that road would scroll so smooth 😀
Big Same.
I love my PS2 but there was something.... lacking aesthetically for the period for a lot of games like that. Couldn't get into anything other than horror games and like DMC... That really only the gamecube captured to any degree
Though I was a Xbox gamer for the most part... on account of morrowind and halo
also ninja gaiden
I’m still waiting for Shenmue to be concluded
There’s also a sweet rom hack that adds music, can be found on a popular site that’s, ahem, romantic about CDs
i hope the other sega pc ports get similar love
Sega Rally 2, Virtual On etc
Well, Saturn rom hacks and translations have been coming out quite rapidly lately 🙂
that’s all contained within the Saturn ecosystem
There’s a sweet Radiant Silvergun Extra I’ve been meaning to check out
i was speaking a bit more generally
Haha, I thought it was weird that they hid the 60fps mode. Imagine a modern game doing that!
Thankfully, once you unlock it, it actually saves.
3DS OutRun hides the 30fps mode
that version is great in 3d, i miss my new 3ds xl ..lol
I forget if the Switch version hides the 30fps mode.
Yes - I'm using an active MiSTer Addons one, and it works with my analog io pro board on my other MiSTer
Good to know, thank you very much!
Yeah well .. I grew up with parents on a budget .. so it was super awesome when I ran into a stack of clearance DC SEGA sports editions with a literal metric ton of great games .. I picked up MVC2 and Grandia II and RE code Veronica at my local Best Buy for a little over 100 bucks .. VMUS included
That was just the beginning I kept coming back for months picking up amazing shit for a fraction of the cost ..
It kept me happy until I could eventually one Christmas get a PS2 … had it on layaway at Walmart for a whole ass year …
Layaway counter drama is some shit I wonder if anyone even has experience or memories of very often these days.
Waiting in line to pay on your layaway while some lady and her fifteen kids are arguing about losing their layaway for whatever because they didn't pay on it when they were supposed to
Still, always better terms than the pawn shop
As for someone that is not American and not native English speaker. I've never heard of "layaway" before.
Is layaway that you deposit a small amount to the store over time in advance?, to get a specific item?, and it's cheaper that way?
Or do you get the item first and then pay a small amount each month?
You pay, they hold the item, and eventually when you've paid enough then they'll let you have it.
So it’s like putting down a deposit to reserve something?
Googled and that’s precisely the definition 😅
I didn't want to buy a console to use my controllers , but it could be a while before code is added into the core, although consoles are still easy to sell again..
what's going on in sega saturn land recently
is there any game compatibility list yet?
Finishing the SCSP (sound chip), even edge cases.
Fixing some VDPx priorities between layers.
Some SNAC code will need polish after everything else is in order.
Some VDP timings too for games like Dead or Alive, Fighting Vipers and Fighters Megamix.
As far as I'm aware, every game boots like intended and the overall compatibility is strong.
I have booted up a lot of random games for testing purposes, and I have not found a lot of egregious problems. Just a handful of games that have minor performance issues like unintended lag spikes compared to the original hardware and the 480i being partially implemented.
Of course in my case I have the best case scenario with my MiSTer set up. Others still get different results depending on their RAM and storage configuration.
I need SNAC code to test compatibility 😂. I think the core has come on a huge amount lately.
I tried some VDPx testroms lately (srg320 should have the same when I'm watching some 3-year old dev videos on YT), but the quality isn't on par with what we have now for the SCSP.
So it will be mostly by continuous reverse engineering and trials-and-errors for the next steps.
For the complete SNAC support, srg320 have already said some months ago that will be the least priority. Having the system correctly working is more important right now.
I know it's understandable.
Honestly I would rather have quality of life improvements like the ability to speed up the loading or the ability to blend the dithering from the VDP1 to simulate proper transparency.
But I get that making sure everything works first should be the top priority.
I'm no srg320, but I was in beta testing teams for several Saturn software emulators all these years.
Speeding up the loading of the disc is extremely difficult on the system, as it needs also changing the logic behind it and how everything is accessed on the system.
I don't remember any Saturn SW emulator capable of doing it at the moment.
For the VDP blending, I don't remember if a SW emulator is capable of doing it without requiring and relying on 3D drivers capabilities (D3D, OGL or Vulkan).
I want a well-functioning satrun ( it's already great), any other improvement is just a nice addition.
Same.
Yeah I’m not against QOL but should definitely be behind every other thing. Some of the QOL on emulators and rom hacks isn’t so much quality of life as making the systems or games completely different IMO. Gotta take the warts or you aren’t really playing game x on system y. It’s like recipe reviews online where someone is like “I love this recipe 5 stars. All I did was change 5 of the 8 ingredients and how it’s cooked” 😅
Embrace the dither!
Embrace the blur!
(N64)
Embrace the wobble!
(PSX)
Embrace the… headaches?
(Virtual Boy)
the only QOL stuff i miss on MiSTer is save states in the 16-bit cores. i've never owned a real saturn but i've never had an issue with load times on the core. i assumed they were already way better than real hardware was
How does Saroo speed up loading times?
Embrace the Joy-con Drift! (Nintendo Switch)
It completely bypasses the Saturn cd drive.
That's also why you can't use the MPEG card, as it disables some functions necessary for it.
Shouldn't the core also be able to have fast loading then?
Don’t remind me! I’ve sent mine in twice!
Got 4 pro controllers and all 4 out of the box had drift - easy to tell too, Link would stroll through Hyrule by himself
I didn’t realise the pro controllers were susceptible
the hall stick replacements are pretty easy to fit
not sure if they fit pro controllers though, since i hacked my switch i've jsut been using a dualsense, works great
It's nice that the DualSense Edge controller has swappable analog stick modules, but it's extremely disappointing that they didn't address the underlying issue that requires them to need replacing in the first place... not to mention that they're usually always out of stock.
Given how cheap the hall effect replacement sticks are it’s frustrating that massive companies like Sony and Nintendo can’t just swallow the cost of what must be a few extra cents per controller…
Sega had it right all along
Harder for them to sell more controllers that way though...
I just think they went with the lowest bidder and weren’t expecting this high a failure rate
They don’t fit. They’re only for JoyCons and the ProCons use the same sticks but somehow won’t fit even with modifications apparently.
With how much a set of JoyCons cost, it should be criminal to create so much e-waste. 🤷♂️
Yeah, it’s not a good look at all.
Joy Cons went from a fun novelty controller for me to being absolute garbage because of how bad the drift problem is.
AFAIK, all the console manufacturers use the same sticks with different tops to them.
Not 100% sure on that tho
I think Sony and Nintendo buy from the same vendor but Microsoft doesn’t? They all have stick drift issues so I guess it ultimately doesn’t matter.
This gen’s controller designs have been hampered by severe quality control and battery issues. It’s a shame considering the outlandish prices being charged for them.
The joy cons alone have tech that literally no one outside Nintendo uses just inflating the price for no consumer benefit. The NFC reader and infrared camera are neat ideas but they’re just wasted opportunities.
Yeah they pretty much all use this thing: https://tech.alpsalpine.com/e/products/faq/muiti-control-device/thumbpointer/
Our aim is to transform into a sustainable value-creating corporate group that carries on contributing to people's lives through electronics and communication, with a focus on three business segments – Component, Sensor and Communication, and Module and System.
I’m guessing the cost of redesigning their controllers to use a different vendor’s analog stick and the ensuing production disruption costs way more than dealing with controller replacements,
Yeah, you’re probably right, although I feel like Nintendo might have had plenty of opportunities in the now approaching 8 year lifespan of the Switch to fix this, and other flaws, like the crappy dpad on the Pro controller…
Don’t know why people say the dpad on the ProCon is bad.
Yeah pricing is crazy and has gotten worse.
It gives me false diagonals and stuff like accidental hard drops in Tetris, pretty much unusable for platformers, puzzle and fighting games, but otherwise fine for stuff like Zelda or Splatoon where it’s sparsely used
That’s why I haven’t had a bad experience using it.
Though with Mario Wonder it was fine for me.
Just not up to Nintendo’s usual gold standard for dpads
The whole damn Switch gen for me 😜
The exclusive games have been good but the ports and hardware have left me feeling a tad bitter towards the company. Good thing there’s always something else to play.
It’s kind of miraculous some of the work that has gone into making games run on underclocked 2015 tablet hardware, although yeah wouldn’t be my preferred way to play either
Switch is one of my favorite Nintendo consoles, haha
I really can see that for a lot of people and I know it is for a lot friends and family, but apparently I was one of the dozens who was all in on Wii U so the Switch felt like the port machine for so long.
I really do like the Switch for what it is now, my OLED TotK one is quite nice, but it might be the weakest Nintendo console in terms of original games for me.
Been a while since I had a chance to play with this core, is there a newer script for auto-downloading the latest unstable build? I'm going to just manually do it now, but it looks like the old script stopped working for me
I have four Switch Pro controllers, and three of them have really bad d-pads. It is possible to end up with a good one, but the odds are not great in my experience.
It’s manual for the latest unstable.
Thanks!
Does someone know if retrobit saturn pro controller works on USB mode only (without wireless)?
I've verified the red flags on SEGA Rally on the left side. Youtube compression issue.
Same for the church on the right side.
The core is correct, like the original console (& Mednafen too).
I have that controller but never got it to work on USB mode only. I wasn't able to update it's firmware because a Windows-only tool is needed and I will never touch that poison, but I seem to recall that was supposed to be enabled by a fw update.
You need to update the firmware, but yes it does work as a wired controller.
Cool!
It's a crazy thing to happen, because it makes for such a noticable difference. So when played side by side the core and the console appear to be identical?
what is it actually about ? 😛
Check @naive whale's video at 6m03s and compare the red flags on the left side windows as well as the church tower: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ue8nLY6uD5o

MiSTer FPGA vs emulation time with a preview of the MiSTer FPGA Saturn core compared to Sega Saturn Emulation. Retro games console showdown! and if you want more MiSTer FPGA vs Saturn videos just leave me a comment...but its time to look at Mednafen emulation compared to the MiSTer ...
Apparently these differences are because of YouTube compression. I had no idea YT was messing with the image as much, even though I knew it could mess up audio in comparisons quite a bit.
I've run the core, Mednafen and the original console today with the same version of the game; same result on screen on these red flags.
And the tower.
Thanks for testing and confirming.
it comes out that comparisons on yt can be confusing 😄
it did it on the Die Hard Arcade comparison on Terasic vs Taki
weird animation didnt render on one side of the side by side where in my export it did
YT does weird shit is the TL:DR haha
Dang Youtubes.
yes
as long as you dont mean the one with sticks
cuz that abomination is not my forte
o0h wait you do
nevermind thats waht I get for not reading - carry on lol
I was looking for flags on a pole like on the beginning of the race. You meant flags hanging by the windows. Looks like some texture calculation going wrong, but I'm no expert.
It would've been so nice if Mister had a way to replay inputs. There are some real hardware solutions that could work with Mister though.
You did not update the firmware?
Yes, looks like some of the textures are not applied correctly, but apparently it's all because of YT messing with the video quality.
I couldn't do it since it's a Windows-only thing
If you don't update firmware you won't be able to play some games supporting analog stick
yes, but there's no way to update it because stupid Retro-Shit wants me to use Windows for that, which is beyond stupid because flashing a firmware file is dead easy on Linux provided they follow industry standards
Do you have or know someone who has a PS5 that you can use to update it that way?
At the very least, spin up a temporary VM with Windows 10/11, install the PlayStation Accessories app, update the firmware, then delete it forever (until the next time you need to update).
There are very simple options for this problem.
How can a PS5 upgrade a retrobit controller?
Oh, sorry. Thought this was referring to a DualSense.
You're good. I thought the same thing until I dug deeper
No, I don't have a ps5 nor do I know anybody with one, but thanks for the idea.
Also, VMs usually don't work for fw upgrading.
depends on the VM software and how good its USB passthrough is tbh
I dont understand why tout don't want use windows. Is a very good system.
This is a joke, right?
their younger brother works for windows CE
Well, I was able to update all of my controllers' firmware with it... 😏
It's a big pile of spyware and shit. I wouldn't touch it even if it was the only OS on earth. Luckily, it isn't.
Out of interest, what are you using now? The only valid option if privacy is of concern seems to be some Linux OS.
Looks like retrobit stuff can't be updated with fwupd on Linux, but 8BitDo can: https://fwupd.org/lvfs/search?value=retro
To update a firmware i think you Can use a pc even if it's not yours 😆
Am i correct that the Saturn core doesn’t support light guns via SNAC at the moment?
Correct, still needs to be implemented.
thanks. Just lucked into a saturn light gun but I have a reflex adapt too
It does not support any lightguns, snac or the USB lightgun options currently available. I can't really wait to try the Saturn core on the sinden lightgun as soon as it is enabled. Virtua cop 1/2 and house of the dead are my most played lightgun games ever.
I've been using exclusively GNU/Linux since 2003. Luckily I live in a region with a long socialist tradition: I can do any administration communication using open standards compliant formats so using GNU/Linux is an advantage because opensource has been cultivated around here since the 2000s.
I currently use Debian Testing on all my systems, and I don't work on the industry anymore (nor will I go back ever, I'd prefer to live under a bridge)
My girlfriend, my parents and my close friends all use GNU/Linux
I’m so sorry
I'm so sorry all your data is in the hands of a company that massively hinders your computer performance for their own profit, too.
It’s for my own protection
From...ehmm.. your own self? 😄
Yes!
I can relate to that, if that's the case 🤣
Sorry I am jokey guy, I think that’s cool about Linux
Always use protection. Anti-virus, by Durex
Hey, been here since... 2019 or so? No need to make that clear now.
You also know what kind of guy I am by now... 😄
I hope not. Using the root account for everything is terrible practice 😂
I do it all the time on my own embedded-like systems for emulation. They run on a minimal system and I only have the root account there.
For some things it's not that crazy 🙂
I mean, I wouldn't do it on a desktop system of course
It’s pragmatic, sure
but for embedded-like (small optimized kernel, minimal rootfs, small wayland server) it's good to go
I was just messing around really
I enjoy cultivating my own computer TOCs by configuring those perfectly-under-control systems 😄
sudo !!
In spanish, "sudo" means "I sweat" 😄
holy shit you’re right LOL
oh no you ruined it for me
I can’t unthink that now
lmao
so it's a bit dirty to be sudo-ing in front of the computer, sounds like compulsive pr0n consumption without taking a shower
omg lol
ideally on one's parent basement
Soo-do?
You’re probably right, but I now think less of you as a person
You probably also use emacs
If you mean me, I use VIM
I’m not British, I don’t have fancy pronunciation!
That’s just the teeth causing that
Well, you guys have the "academic english", don't you? At least that's what we're told here in Spain: British english is best english, just like north Corea is best Corea.
Or was it south Corea..? Well, you get the idea
The one ruled by the big guy
Don't worry, it will be used all around you sometime, too. The future of desktop computing lies on the opensource systems, even Microshit is making it's OS more and more GNU-like
"it's finally the year of Linux on the desktop!" - every year since 1998
It's everywhere by now. It's a matter of time.
Vanfanel did you see the news regarding Mono ? what do you think about it ?
can someone help me? is there a way to have the saturn core auto boot the bios?
I am wondering what it would take to get virtual lightgun support via mouse/Wii mote. Is that a standard implementation across cores or would there need something fully bespoke for Saturn?
Do you need to have proper SNAC support before that is even an option?
thank you, that worked, had it named incorrectly
You wont get the full intro when opening the core, only after loading a game.
I wish there was a setting to make the core start with the drive door closed, so we would get the intro.
That might be an easy thing to implement, worth raising a ticket on GitHub
I'll look into it, thank you.
That would be great. I actually use the touchpad on the DS4 as a lightgun cursor for other cores. It's handy.
I don't see myself as a qualified "opinator". I don't know what to say 😄
Ok just asking this question 😅
I think it is a step back of Microsoft this news but now Ubuntu is contains on Windows 🤣 We just need to rebrand WinNix 🙂
In what sense is handling Mono to the Wine crew a step back? I don't get it.
I mean.. a step back to where, from where?
Trying to make an opinion on my own here, NOT questioning yours at all 🙂
From Microsoft not following it now
uh. I’m an expert in this topic, but not sure YTF it’s being discussed in this channel.
What’s YTF
not an information safe for you
Ah, well, as a general opinion I'd say "Microsoft not following something" is good for that thing
Let's not derail anymore, please.
So more Saturn now.
And Mednafen in comparison.
celeriyacon is working really hard on the SCSP test rom.
Zet sends this test rom to srg320
10 mins later everything pass 🙂
This time could be really tricky.
Maybe a silly question, how do you know that the test rom is good?
I have some serious health issues, so I let my partner takes everything and send it to srg320 instead.
The tests are run on 10 Saturn models before, model 1 and model 2 JPN, EU and US.
I hope you get better soon bro
That's all why I've refrained to talk to the test outside at the moment, as we are testing everything and have a final version of the testrom for Rypheca (Mednafen), and the others emudevs at a later time.
Are there similar test roms for the VDPs?
Appreciate you doing that. Thank you.
I congratulate the efforts of everyone involved, this is bringing huge gains in accuracy for the core and in the future for emulators.
Not at my knowledge, and that's unfortunate.
There are some VDP tests from the SEGA SDK (won't talk here), and some others from the YAUL suite (srg320 used them like 3 years ago, I saw them on a list during one of the first videos of the core).
Does someone have a schema describing signals/pins of the saturn bios?
I am all about huge gains! 💪
Wait wasn't this more green before or is it another page? How many pages are there and how does it compare to the most useful emulator?
Btw I really really really like this core, it's like getting more of my favorite generation, but not like finding hidden gems on the ps1, more like finding beefy flagship titles I never heard about before
More tests added and some refined like with the PLFO.
Only a single page.
And you have the comparison with the last version of Mednafen (1.32.1) just after.
celeriyacon is trying to find some quirks and edge cases of the Saturn sound chip.
Oh so you're adding stuff to the test, I thought you had unearthed some devkit "making sure it's working" rom, maybe those doesn't exist in the way I imagine..
No, it's full reverse engineering.
Without using SEGA code or SDK as possible, in a state of clean room reversing.
I'm not adding anything, a very skilfull dev is sending me the newer testrom from time to time, as I could talk with srg320 and other devs.
Eagerly awaiting the next test core. I dont know why but I have a feeling the next one is going to be something special.
Mm I see, would you stay clear of such dev roms if they existed tho? Okay yes he seems very skilled, my experience with saturn emulation before wasn't great and this is pretty great
Ps1 emulation has been pretty good for as long as I can remember, n64 worked fine for some games and not so fine for others, saturn emulation just made me think that it seems like a nice console, in theory
Depends of the person in charge of the emulator/console core.
Some don't even allow to talk about their existence (testroms inside an official SDK) as they want pure clean room reverse engineering, some are more lax.
Seems a bit strict but whatever floats the boat, staying clear of that stuff might keep you out of company sights
DuckStation and Dolphin are like that and known for that too.
That won't stop them to be the best on their own.
And in my personal opinion: the official documentation and the SEGA SDK are full of mistakes and some (intentional) translation errors.
I've followed the full retranslation and correction of the internal documentations these last years.
The best for the Saturn core is to redo everything from scratch, not taking any official documentation as absolute, and not touching them even with a stick.
Sorry, typing from my phone in my bed, quite an exercise too.
Intentional translation errors? For what reason? Some sort of protection of the deeper knowledge?
Battle between SEGA Japan and SEGA USA.
Lol wow
And bad translators too.
Yea that's okay tho, tanking the company for some internal fight is pretty bad practice
SEGA of Japan and SEGA USA are the real culprits before anything else for SEGA demise on consoles.
And that was already before the 32x/Saturn.
At least we have Jim Carrey and Sonic hanging out in the movies these days, maybe ace ventura has helped east and west heal their relationship
Lol I wouldn't know if it's merited but I really like dreamcast so it might be... sega has produced some of my fav games so it's weird seeing them being carried so hard by sonic, which I honestly think is the least interesting part
The dream for me would be if they made gazillion dollars from the sonic movies and then decided to create another console
Have you ever played SEGAGAGA for DC?
That show was good goofy fun
What do the little blue arrows mean?
In particular, it's clarifying which test you're focused on, so that you can see the actual and expected values in case of failure (like in that first screenshot)
Yeah, quite a bit, but never finished it.
Anyone else not getting any BGM after the intro in Chou Aniki?
Could you try with that version ?
#1046941029296779344 message
I know that some games regressed on music/sounds after some changes done on 2024-08-24 on the sound chip.
kuba created that version with a previous state of the code for the sound chip, as a temporary solution.
I tried it with the most recent stable and unstable cores with the same result
Can't reproduce, please check your game dump.
The BGM are working on my BIN/CUE and CHD versions.
nice
Ooooo Die Hard Arcade fix 🙂
yeah , fix for mister main
Awesome, will update to that later when the unstable goes live 🙂
i wonder what, if any other saturn issues are still on the main side
I think there are still CDDA inaccuracies on the main side, since some games that stream audio from the disc have sound balance issues.
I might be wrong on this, since there are some games I'm not super familiar with on original hardware.
SNES part also is great maybe we will could launch correctly Super Mario Bros Maker
The tricky part about vetting sound issues on the SEGA Saturn is that some games just have incorrect sound baked into the game itself.
For example, the SEGA Saturn port of Twinkle Star Sprites has heavily compressed audio of sound effects and voice clips during matches that sticks out like a sore thumb, compared to the rest of the audio that sounds more normal.
Cleopatra Fortune also has sound balancing issues, where sound effects are a lot louder than the music, to the point that clearing tiles is so loud that it can jump scare you.
As always I guess the golden rule applies - check against real hardware
Indeed
My first thought
Where did you see this commit?
Is this the first main mister update or are there earlier ones?
over the last year there have been more changes
You’ll miss that free time you had in die hard to go get a soda when it’s gone
I haven't updated main once for saturn but it still worked... 😬
Is it only for die hard?
I don't know of other bugs like in Die Hard , but it may have an impact on other games, who knows
I saw one game (but don't remember the name) on the FMV sometimes when characters talk it seems the core not have the data and the music stop for a very short time I will check again this case
It is Linker Live Story
Any time the main gets updated, any other modifications are also carried over, even from other unstable builds.
Just to clarify, the BGM is working in the intro stage (where you are a giant dude with a Viking helmet) it only stops playing for me in the section after where you play as a regular sized character.
I understood the first time and it works on my side.
That's why I've replied to check your game dump.
You can potentially have a dump with an incorrect pregap value or a misaligned data track.
Thanks. Sorry I didn’t mean to come off like I was doubting you I was just worried I didn’t give a good enough explanation initially.
With apologies if my response seemed harsh earlier.
I just wanted to be informative, as we have some sets of incorrectly dumped Saturn games floating since ages and I know Chou Aniki could be one of them.
For explaining, some Saturn games have multiple pregaps possible (sometimes errors during the mastering process).
Some older dumps were done incorrectly and didn't align the tracks with the correct pregaps, like with Chou Aniki here.
Normally, the correct dump of that game should be like that : a data track followed by music tracks, with tracks 2 and 3 having different pregraps declared.
The Die Hard Arcade fix works correctly.
Are you aware of any such bad dumps from the Redump set? Thats the set I use
Now we can die harder!
No, as the pregaps issues were found when we worked with others on the set for Redump and proper dumping procedures/verifications were established too.
It was more about previous sets like some water that went deep and dark.
Oh, seems like you´ve been all over the place in the retro/emu scene 🙂
Thanks for confirming
Doing things here and there since 30 years.
mee too, but "doing things"= using emus 😅
Confirming that it’s working now after using a different dump. Thank you so much!
I´ve never had issues with the Redump sets highly recommend using them
Redump set was done with correct current semi-archival method and documented.
The sole core where you need a "dirty" set is for the NGPC.
I tried to leave an issue log to Jotego about it, to test the future versions with a proper set.
Older dumps were done with saves already inside the ROM dump (NGP/C consoles work with FlashROM and their saves are inside the same chip as the game).
Proper set with no initialized save and no save init flag can't be read properly by the core at the moment.
Anyway, that was just a quick info.
Thanks for the info, maybe thats why NGP core is percieved as unstable
Okay so I'm not the only one that noticed the weird lack of "clean" Neo Geo Pocket ROMs floating around.
with the reduced loading times you can also “Die Quicker”
I wish Bruce Willis would've ended on another note, instead of "dying slowly from dementia"
It makes me sad, even just playing the arcade game
worse, "shoved into movies while slowly deteriorating from dementia until his agent and family could no longer hide it and make money off of him"
Just a shitty way to be done. 😦
Yea that part as well, not sure I saw any of those last ones but really sad. Woa just looked
It's like ten movies in a year, that's sick
There are articles where people are talking about how bad it got.
Like, he didn't know where he was or what he was doing, etc.,
Productions being like, "he's not mentally competent enough to handle a prop gun" kind of stuff
I read that doing all those last roles was his decision, so he could bank roll before requiring retirement.
According to his daughter I believe
Feels like some kind of abuse of his legacy as well. But yea, I could see myself doing the same thing, impossible to know
On the one hand, I would want to do as much as I could for people I loved. On the other hand, that's exactly the kind of thing someone profiting from the situation would have to say when confronted with it.
It's gross either way and at some point you have to stop putting the person with mental issues out into those situations whether they agreed to it previously or not.
Like, doing a bunch of crap to cash in at the end, the good movies will still be there. Yes it's difficult to know, it's even more difficult to know how aware of it all he was
It hits harder with Bruce, I kind of put him in the category of really physical leading men even tho he never was big or super ripped like arnold
Yeah, he was a pretty good regular dude action hero
It is unimportant to note that his specific type of dementia did not affect him cognitively. It manifested as aphasia making communication difficult. His decision making abilities and thought processes were otherwise intact. Same can’t be said now that it has progressed.
But at the time he was fully aware of what he was doing. He just couldn’t express himself the way a typical person could.
lol I just read the part about the gun and blanks. Nvm apparently he was worse off than was indicated. That’s sad.
Yeah, they were working pretty hard to cover for him and hide it but once his retirement was announced people started talking.
I don't know. That stuff's terrifying.
You can prepare and adjust for a failing body but your brain going is just terrifying.
Imagine, not being able to do the quick time events on the completely on-topic classic game Die Hard Arcade.
Indeed. I have a neighbor with dementia. It’s been terrible watching her decline.
My neighbor is in the game as a completely on topic quick-time enemy
I haven’t had time to test, but I wonder if the new main changes affect Time Gal. That feels like it could be related
Thanks for testing 🙂
Happy Saturnday to all 😙😙
Lookin at the pace notes here it looks like we are all in for a "long, easy left" of a day again.
Don't anyone dare say "maybe"
Oh crap! I was on the wrong page!!! "STRAIGHT LEFT!"
Phew! Close one!

We could unlock a real one. 😂

Not at the moment.
Sort of. Games will run in 480i, but the 480i is partially implemented.

I spent $10000! I spent $50000! I spent $100000! I spent $500000! I spent $1000000! I spent $5000000!
I'm still reviewing every Saturn game. More vids are on the way! :D
The release dates I had when I started were like 50% wrong, so I'm re-doing some of the old episodes while making new ones. I will begin uploading them this summer. And by this summer I actually meant, uhhh... after that summer. 2022 babeeeee!!
In the memetime, enjoy this meme...
TIME TO DRIVE THE OPPOSITE DI.. oh wait this game seems to hate this lol

Gosh, Doc, go right to go left?
Hello to you as well Saturn
Im tired switching bios can someone once again simply explain the file pathing to make that no longer a necessity?
Could you explain what you want as result if I could help you ?
Having the same BIOS launching all your games ?
I know there's region free bios out there but I also saw there's a method to just restructure folder layout and like bios will boot with like region games
I recommend just using the hisaturn 3.0 bios as its region free
I think the multiple regional bioses just follows the same approach as the SEGA CD core (although I haven’t tested it)
Then I guess I'll just use Hi Saturn 3.0 Bios then didnt realize it were that simple
Launch that bios and then set the region on the core menu to “auto” and you’ll never need to think about it again
That's what I do too, and for some problematic games, I keep a specific BIOS inside the folder of the game.
What is an example of a game?
I also use hi saturn. It's great but I do miss the original Saturn boot animation 😢
I'd just use a modded region free bios.
Couldn’t you just have multiple bios files?
Die Hard Trilogy, Warcraft II, Lemmings 3D.
The headers inside the first track are bogus (mastering error) and the Hi-Saturn with the region free option isn't working.
What if you explicitly set the region in the OSD?
The core fails to load the game after some screens.
For Die Hard Trilogy, I've patched the game on my side.
For the two other games, I'm using an older firmware/other region.
Ideally what I want is to be able to load any region with only the
Pal boot screen
Gotcha. Yeah, you’d need to somehow patch some of the bios files I guess
NTSC games wont run correctly when running in pal 50hz mode.
I think they just want the PAL startup for nostalgia reasons
The same reason the NTSC PS1 bios feels weird to me 😅
Yes so the convenience of hi saturn just with choose your own boot animation
But, you know, the hi saturn boot is kind of cool also
https://youtu.be/Iv5uBN76zls?si=eYvgYKdnH4O38-q0
I think the US and PAL Saturn boot screens are the same
I see, only until quite recently I found out the PS1 eu bios had visual similar to the PSOne. I thought only the PSOne had that bios style.
Again: region free bios files for whatever region you'd like are a thing.
Yeah, the grey squares is what I saw on my original PAL PSX (Not PSOne)
You certainly can
But given how often RF BIOS are recommended it doesn’t seem like common knowledge
Yeah, I use a bios per region because I am goofy like that.
we played VF2 on Saturn last night and my partner said: "wow, this feels like shit"
Heartbroken.
They loved Darkstalkers though. I've been living with a closet anime fighter enthusiast this entire time.
It's simple logic
Tekken has bears
Virtua Fighter does not have bears
Everyone loves bears. 🐻
@tranquil mulch you see what they say about you?
Did you tell them that in Japan, mastering Virtua Fighter is like mastering a real martial art, and top players.... blah blah blah?
Closest we have of a bear is Kumachan and Pandachan from Megamix and Vipers.
lol, they really hated Tekken
I tainted the well on that one though
"oh, you think VF feels like shit? Hold on."
The DOA guy hates Tekken so much!!!
That guy is wild lol, there’s a reason why he ain’t in Japanese game dev anymore
maybe he just hates Paul
I noticed that the old issue with Battle Garegga medal sprites looks to be back, but only with certain medals
Idk if my unstable version is the latest though so let me verify
Yeah this behavior is on the 6/28 and the 9/02 unstable
Added to gh
battle garegga was never confusing enough imo
having only some medals appear adds that edge the game always needed
because it isnt a COMPLETE FUCKING NIGHTMARE AS IT IS ALREADY

Ive heard its pretty fun so you're excused
it is pretttty good, and on its way
I remember when the dev was just bullshitting about making a shmup
I tested it in early stages as well, dev is really smart, game is gonna be great
That rules 🙏
he's got all the good shmup devs on DMs
this aint gonna be another cygni situation
unfortunately the chances of a saturn port are unlikely of rainchaser 😛
Still can find a way to get it on the crt somehow…
question: is CHD compatible? (Maybe I have bad CHDs)
Yep, CHD files are supported
Keep in mind there are a handful of games that can have issues with CHD.
