alpine pagoda
#

Nice. I have the ps one, probably would only get the Saturn one if I got a good deal since I can probably use an adapter and use the dual analog with both cores

#

Also these things and arcade sticks take up too much space 😂

wise brook
#

getting them from Japan is the last place where you can still get a good price on them imo

alpine pagoda
#

If I had to spend close to $100 I’d probably get the twin stick first too

for $100 I'd expect to get 2 in-box delivered

Having 2 serial devices is already annoying. Imagine having all of them

Speaking of NES controllers, there's a keyboard with a famicom clone built-in. Annoyingly, it seems that the keyboard is just a prop (no PC connector)

drifting frigate
#

My first "favorite" controller was a Gravis game pad. Part of that was I got it with Descent. But it's the first controller I really preferred using on a PC. It's been dethroned handily, but I did love it. Until the stick broke and I had a plastic spike where my thumb went. But that's not the gravis' fault. The hole for the stick DID tear my thumb up playing DOS SSF2 though.

There are some arcade cores which also tate the "wrong" way
I always have displays which rotate though, but I know HDTVs are another story

kindred peak

A few games of this era didn't have a 90 or -90 option. It was just "Tate" and you got whatever the dev thought was the "correct" rotation.

correct

sudden tusk
#

There’s a obvious solution to this dilemma

serene thunder
#

Oh, so they didn't all stick to one tate orientation, but some used the opposite

gloomy hedge
#

its in the psx core

#

so I assumed it would also be in the saturn core

at some point

Lol, thanks. So tv base on the right would be best then. For some reason I always feel the urge to do it the other way :😂

serene thunder

All my PC displays rotate CW

#

Which works for all the arcade cores save for a few

gloomy hedge
#

and have used every thing properly with that setup - so far no issues

serene thunder

I always check the main menu options and DIP settings, but a couple just don't have the needed settings

serene thunder

no

I mean the standard practice I think was the OTHER WAY

I would have reason to believe it was CCW

Well shoot

gloomy hedge

so Raiden and Saturn Shmups rotate the same way

yeah we're all hosed

its probably not 100% but

#

I mean guys we're stupid think about it

#

most people are _____

#

right footed

#

so when you kick your tv

#

you'd kick it hard with your RIGHT foot

#

thereby flipping it onto its CCW side

serene thunder

It would depend on how you kick it

Hype

#

i wonder if he'll open the issues or no

pine bobcat
#

So what's the general consensus on the Saturn core at this point?
Will it eventually be a viable replacement for Saturn hardware in the way that NES, SNES, PC Engine, Mega Drive, PSX are on MiSTer? (i.e 99.9% compatibility)

#

I've been waiting until public release to try the core
And wondering if it's safe to get rid of my Saturn w/ MODE

mortal mist
#

there is still a lot to do

#

core even if it is in main , it always receives updates

pine bobcat
#

I'm not so much concerned with bugs in particular games
But more whether any insurmountable architectural issues have cropped up that will result in visible compromise
There was a lot of concern early on about memory bandwidth
also last I saw, the core was pretty tight in terms of fitting

wet hull
#

Maybe sorg or other devs can give attention now

prisma wraith
wet hull

#

I guess it will appear in update_all now?

#

Or very soon?

mortal mist
#

probably in some time

#

maybe some more update for core will show up 🙂

gloomy hedge
#

Right now I feel the biggest issue is that for some people like 90% of the games work and for others like 20% work and there's a spectrum in between

#

I am assuming it has something to do with ram timings. Although every update, more games work for me, it's a wide array across different misters. Judging from my friends experiences.

tawny forge
gloomy hedge
#

Yeah for sure

#

My mister doesn't magically have working sound for Sega rally sometimes and not other times

#

It's the same cutouts every time

tawny forge
#

Yeah! Consistency helps on debugging and maybe fixing the bugs (provided srg320 is able to reproduce them)

gloomy hedge
#

That is my worry a bit

#

How do we even get that range of ram timings to test

#

And also why does this core seem so special in that regard haha. Probably true magic 🪄

#

Never experienced that kind of thing with any other core

tawny forge
#

We just need to find a way to send a ram module that falls into that 20% success rate (his ram module falls into the other group as I’ve understood from him)

gloomy hedge
#

I think there might be several groups but yeah I don't know how this stuff works

tawny forge
gloomy hedge
#

Ooo neat 😁

#

I think once it's out there there'll be good data hopefully on the issues with consistency

tawny forge
#

The only thing I know is that this core development couldn’t be in better hands

#

srg320 is a wizard

#

Things will get ironed out soon

gloomy hedge
#

It's already doing the impossible

#

I have no doubt, it's amazing

pine bobcat
#

Has there been any attempt to send him some older/less performant RAM?
Has he made any public request for that?

I imagine shipping to that area might be tricky at the moment

but then again the NSO N64 controller is really inconsistent even wired and I find it fine enough for casual gaming

There’s some layer priority issues on Magic Knight Rayearth too. I don’t worry that those will be fixed soon enough. Some slowdown issues are probably gnarlier if they’re due to bandwidth starvation.
