#

If you're using the unstable from 3/26, verify you're using the proper saturn redump images (bin/cue, not CHD) and try loading a cue from the OSD menu. If you don't get the Saturn logo or 'This disc cannot be played' (which just means you have the wrong region selected), the bin/cue is probably not recognized and you may need to source other backups.

kind quarry
#

i had one of those “all in one” carts and often the 4mb ram one would cause a lot of problems if not specifically supported

blazing lance
#

so what was this like on real hardware, was this RAM modules you had to insert?

kind quarry
#

it would go in the cart slot, and official ones didn’t have any save capability. you’d have to save to the system memory. which often lead to a loss of save.

#

the saturn cart slot was really, really touchy. most recommend never removing a cart once it’s loaded. you risk losing all your savings when removed (i lost all of mine a few years back when i was hooking it back up). it was sad but it just gives me a reason to play sonic R and panzer dragoon saga again.

willow pawn

FYI Just 3 games require 1MB RAM, all SNK, and one of them is Real Bout Garou (Others are Kof96 which has a patch)

ripe valley
#

I've tried the English translation of Policenauts on the current core yesterday.

Some minor graphical rendering errors on names during the introduction, seems to be a text layer over the FMV.
Otherwise the game plays and feels great now.
I've not tried to connect a 'lightgun' type controller on Player 2 though.

On the previous core version (December 2022), the game was freezing just after some minutes of gameplay.

I've played though a part of the game for 2/3 hours, the disc change is possible with 'saving' just before changing the disc on the core interface and doing a soft reset.
The core cannot detect directly a disc change, but a workaround is possible for that game.

Btw, I realised something, not sure if it's been mentioned here.

So far I've gotten into SotN twice. When I did the music during name and character select did not stop and the game started.

My favorite tabletop store ever (before they moved) was Merlins in Spokane. There are some good things there. Some.

Anyway! Here is a Saturn game!

drifting frigate

I am actually six-button sad. I got a couple Retro-Bit Big6 controllers in anticipation of Saturn and for arcade fighters and the 2.4Ghz receivers corrupted my SD card. They were just utter crap. I guess I'm done with RB as a brand (this also belongs in controllers, not here, but face buttons and saturn are strongly integrated to me).

zinc vine
#

sandisk sd card cant go wrong

drifting frigate
#

This one did. But it wasn't the card's problem. The receivers were just garbage. PC kept flipping out when they were inserted and they mount and unmount as a drive very quickly like they were stuck in update mode or something.

polar geode

That sounds... sub optimal. Were they sending over 5v over USB or something?

I can totally use the Genesis + snac, that does work on both.

drifting frigate
tiny flare

drifting frigate

Specifically for Saturn or?

#

I should say I haven’t tested V2.5 on Saturn, and I haven’t sold it in nearly 2 years

mortal mist
#

Yes , saturn

#

I tested games with 2.4, 2.5 and 2.9

#

Most games run with 2.9 without any problems

#

An example of this would be Sega Rally

#

I'm not saying this has to apply to everyone, but more people here have reported this problem

naive whale
#

2.5 has worked fine for me. I have a 2.5 and a 2.9 build. I’ve noticed no differences

But some games sound great without disabling anything .. good examples are final fight revenge and sf zero 3

This is normal if i dont have the sound during the saturn bios?

ancient surge
#

I double checked Falcom Classics again, and yup same sound issues.

It's one of the weirder examples I can think of, because at first everything is normal, but then the sound slowly breaks the more you play. Normally with glitchy sounds, it's immediately apparent something is wrong.

Any other Saturn fans here watched the anime "Uncle from Another World"? Just started watching tonight and it's pretty zany so far, with a lot of Saturn references 🙂

I use the ia cli and some magics to fetch everything from the archive. Large collections always seem to have a busted torrent

#

also I don't think Saturn supports CHD yet? So you might end up needing to unchd those

Oof

pretty sure there's bin/cue collections out there if you want to start again

chd at this point in the saturn game would be weird. The core as it is right now has shown that even storage speed (sdcard/usb vs cifs over ethernet) can impact compatibility

The N64 version is the best if you're embracing the jank

it's also the most mechanically unique which is why people play it over the other ports

CHOAD FILES

untold lintel
#

I play UMK3 on arcade : )

#

64 trilogy has no recovery on teleports and a bunch of missing animation frames that make moves recover faster, so it plays a lot different

#

the other trilogy games don't really get played because they're just kind of bad UMK3

#

but 64 is it's own weird beast, it also has the 3v3 mode

Only a little
