I'm not that ancient but I actually appreciate games giving me noticeable resistance since playing dark souls. Git gud.
I try to only use savestates sparingly like after a 5 minute cutscene you can't skip so it saves me from having to watch it everytime i die
i think they have a lot of uses and its up to everyone to use them responsibly basically š
another good one is lightgun games, skip all the calibration and intro cutscenes etc by just having a savestate right at the actual beginning of the game
Relying on savestates is awful to play any game, seen some people save over their main state on a death and now they have to restart the whole game xD
thats a definite downside too yeah
they can also just randomly go wrong sometimes, i'd hate to have a savestate 90 hours into FF8 or something and no actual saves
Sounds to me like you need to build up your RPG stamina
My most loaded savestate is by far the track selection of DDR. The game kicks you out every 3 tracks or when you fail once and you have to go through the menu all over again.
Instead I just press F1, select the track I want and go. Saved me many hours in total over the last years.
I did use save states to finally help me beat Alex Kidd in miracle world (master system) ā I could consistently get to the same level and kept dying on that level, but didnāt have the patience to keep grinding through the beginning of the game - by reloading the save state I could learn the pattern for the level, and then I beat the game from beginning to end without save states - it only took me ~30 years
After all my reports of them not working and you not wanting to fix them until you had fixed other things first, look at you now, you are completely hooked on them š
Normally, I don't use save states. But I think its a great feature for people.
I only use them for games that don't allow to save the game, like megaman x or metroid on nes. But only at the password screen, not to skip content.
perfectly valid
yes, it has become my cardio training. I never liked any rythmn games and still don't do, but being able to play with movement instead of gamepad really was refreshing for me.
Ever looked into Beat Saber (and similar, Samba de Amigo if you want to stay in real space š ) to give you arm days as well?
Beat Saber is still probably the most approachable VR game
hey there
if you want, you got a challenge to look and see
actually, I'll take a looksie, with a save file that has a date with Barret
here's that save file, if you want it
So uhhh what the issue? Itās just darker on software emulators?
it's darker triangle-y overlay over the gondola
Oh I see, the bottom image is on the PC, not from a real PS1
maybe his playstation is broken or its some of those bizarr revision things
Give BeatMania a try sometime.
Since you enjoy DDR so much now, how likely is a System573d core? Afaik 100% of the security system functionality of the mp3 board is known and documented by 987123879113 (I used their tools to start a ddrextreme decomp/translation). It's "just" a psx with different peripherals attached (a "normal" cdrom, flash memory interface, the mp3decoder board , dongle, and the jammaio).
I finished dragon warrior 7 on the core. No issues whatsoever. Just mentioning it since it's an obscenely long game.
Trophy Unlocked
The core seems to be very close to the ps1, unlike some other ps-based arcades. Also mame does support it, so information is out there.
I would be optimistic that the effort would be acceptable for what you could get (amount of games) unlike most other arcade systems
As i'm completly unfamiliar with arcades, I have no idea if there would be significant interest in the community for those. Probably would need to be a project to support multiple boards...e.g.
https://www.system16.com/hardware.php?id=582
https://www.system16.com/hardware.php?id=823
Though the underlying hardware might seem very doable, there doesn't seem to be much point when you factor in all the additional hardware most of those games require to even make them playable.
Some people have the DDR setups though, and you could play them with controller if you don't have the gear.
This seems like the arcade project that he would do if he was going to do one though.
The psx/Saturn arcade adjacent cores I'm most interested in are the two Tetris Grand Master games and densha de go.
DENSHA DE GOOOOOOOO!
š
TGM1 is the only console adjacent TGM, TGM2 is on a completely custom board that just happens to use the same cpu as a saturn
TGM2 is basically an SH-2 and a big custom chip
there's a TGM1 arcade hack that runs on the PSX core that's very good
Yeah, but it doesn't save high scores
the bishi bashi stuff would be sick to have from 573
How long would it take to learn enough verilog to do it myself. For context I'm a 10x JavaScript dev with 6+ years of deleting the wrong files.
an infinite amount of time since the core is written in VHDL
I'm probably about to dump my 573 into storage soon
planning on getting a snekboard to hook my arcade pads up to a pc and go the ITGmania (and data) route
oh itg (i founded Boxorroxors which lead to openITG when Konami snuffed out ITG)
those were fun times
Iāve been writing code in various forms for ages⦠I tried to learn a little about this kind of stuff, and it does seem like it would be decipherable, but it also feels like a completely different paradigm. Maybe if you have an electrical engineering background it could be easier to understand whatās going on at the beginning? I donāt know though, because I donāt, lol. If youāre serious, it looks like fun but you should allow a lot of time and set yourself reasonable small goals, like with anything new I guess.
I've been curious and have looked at books. The thing that actually stops me is the reverse engineering side of things. That's a very different skill set
Also joking about the 10x JavaScript developer but. I'm a dot net fanboy.
Always think about the 10+ minutes compile times, then decide to do something different
The issue is not so much with the language, but rather with understanding the idea behind.
It's not a program or program flow, but rather hardware that runs in parallel.
Like every line is run by a seperate thread in parallel with synchronization after each execution/clock(simplified)
I found it most helpful to learn this by looking at the schematics generated for each module. So you would write short code and then see what is really generated from it.
Yeah, thatās the big challenge I could see in the little time I spent looking into it, itās just such a different way to have to think
Do you think a good starting would point to just work on reimplementing instruction sets on a simpler CPU?
if you like dancing for exercise then yeah beatsaber is great but synthriders is sublime
i play like 10 hours a week every week for years now its insane, its become my most played videogame by a gigantic margin
How about the ole fashioned hitting the gym
boomer
Thatās sick. Thereās an ITGmania tourney going on alongside the fighting game event Iām at this weekend.
I was unaware of the existence of poverty RGC
Chaos heat is my ps1-arcade game wish. Also the least likely to happen I think⦠š
is high level ddr always played leaning on the rail like that
pretty disappointing if true tbh
it is, but if you saw the difficulty of the songs you'd realize its still an insane feat
Insane feet
toetally crazy
The bar is a godsend on the higher foot rating songs. Youāre moving so fast you canāt really maintain balance. I suppose you could with enough practice but itād be a significant physical barrier to overcome for most people.
I have a cobalt flux pad I picked up in like 2003/2004 and it doesnāt have a bar. I am better when I have access to a bar at an arcade than I am at home without.
As someone who came from the Extreme era of DDR it's insane to see how people play with a greater focus on maintaining stamina
east germany
I like save states a lot for everything really because they save me time in a lot of games where I donāt want to have to start back at the beginning of a tough level when I die, etc. I also use them a lot when I do my viewer request streams where I only play games for 10 min. sprints. Itās great because if the same game gets requested the following stream, then I can pick up exactly where I left off rather than replaying the same parts over and over. Obviously, thatās more of a niche use case, but I love having savestates for that.
Using save states means you are a bad person and should feel bad for doing so. I know this because I use them sometimes.
But for realsies: As a new father, save states fucking rule. End of the argument for me, I wish every core had them.
What does dual sdram for PSX actually do? I know whatever itās does it basically unnoticeable, but what is the benefit (however small) of dual sdram for PSX?
It aggravates @manic citrus
That's the frustrating thing about being a gamer when I'm older with numerous other responsibilities: I need to stop gaming at a moment's notice and take care of other stuff. Save states are great for that.
Is that the dev for the PSX core?
No.
Nah just some random dev.
Oh.
That would be FPGAzumSpass.
So (at least as of 8/31/2024), dual sdram resolves audio lag that is prolly less then a millisecond or something if @dawn wind is being this mocking about it.
and the tradeoff is that the dual ram build runs too fast (again, by an imperceivable amount). So really you have to decide which brain worms you want to satiate
Exactly. I have a 2 year old and a 4 month old. Save states are an absolute life saver for me.
Thereās a workaround - use either 24-bit rendering, GPU slowdown, or enable texture filtering. The GPU being generally a bit too fast causes this iirc
Enable GPU slowdown if you don't want to enable any of the other settings. I asked Robert about it and he said it's safe to use this feature. It will fix the issues like these, which are caused by the GPU being slightly too fast in the core, without chaning the visuals in any way.
There was also occasional junk in the graphics but it's only noticeable in the first garage mission, likely fixes that
.... Oh yeah and save stating the last mission screwed up the game and messed up the film director
The game gave me the wrong gameplay and failed the mission even though it was a success
Fun stuff
I can't believe, no one passes the license test!
its maybe actually the hardest part of the game lol
you can't even luck out you actually have to drive well
Back when the game came out, I spent an unimaginable amount of time trying to beat the damn license test.
I must have spent like half a day as a kid to beat that "tutorial" level.
nah, that's the final mission which I labored over 8 hours on
the "license test" is easily beaten if you bother finding (admittedly easily missed) tutorial section in the menu to see what inputs for what are required
although that time limit is a real bitch, I will give you that
hello š
im about to try this core out, is there anything needed for the new weave that i need?
is there a new mister main unstable i need to enable an additional video filter? i think i remember something about a new vertical scanline option to improve the new weave?
or is the "new bob" implemented in this dev core??
yeah, it looks like there was a new vertical video filter added to the mister main unstable, which lets you "apply a vertical filter to 480i content".
but, if i already have the 480i to 480p hack enabled in the PSX core, do i even need that? does the core Zakk posted already have those new options rolled in to the "new weave"?
New weave won't need to be used. The vertical interlace filter does that. You need unstable main to get that option. The benefit over 480p hack is that you don't get combing artifacts on 2d. Also on N64 it allows the use of the original VI filters.
i see!
ok, so i need the unstable mister, enable that vertical interlace filter, and then grab the new PSX unstable "psx_weave" and then i should be good? (and dont enable the 480p hack?)
No need for the psx weave test build. Just set the regular psx core to weave.
Hello! New to MiSTer and looking for some help on the PSX core. I got the core running (I think) but when I go to load a cue file nothing happens and I just stay on the like PS1 main menu with memory card and cd player options. What am I doing wrong?
Is each set of cue + bin files in its own subfolder?
Try another bin/cue or maybe a chd file.
Nope theyāre just all together under the psx games folder.
I donāt know if this is actually causing your problem, but all the mister cores for cd based systems need to have each gamesās cue/bin files in a subfolder named after the game. The cores produce save files based on the subfolder
Do you have the bios files?
No, one subfolder for each game. All the cue/bin files or the Chd file go in there
Ooooooh let me try that
Just to be clear it should be (E:) > games > PSX > Game Folder > bin and cue file. I have four other files in the PSX folder being boot.rom, boot1.rom, boot2.rom, and a zipped sbi folder?
that looks right to me. here's the core documentation in case there's something in here you haven't seen yet: https://github.com/MiSTer-devel/PSX_MiSTer
I figured it out, Iām an idiot. This is my first cd core but with all the other ones I would rename the rom files to get rid of like (USA) and better alphabetize them but apparently you canāt do that with these ones because as soon as I reverted the names they worked perfectly.
with the new intl vert filte, are there preferred scanlines to use? i currently have the soft SNES scanline applied, but im not sure if theres something better, or if the adaptive scanlines are what i should bee using
Put them into their own sub folders though. You can name the folder whatever you want for your organization needs
the .cue file is just a text file that tell the emulator how and in what order to load the bin files, and expects them to be named a certain way.
Plus, by doing this, each game gets to have its own memory card. And also multidisc games work properly
or, m i not supposed to use scanlines for that intl vert filter and use an interpolation filter instead?
some light interpolation is probably best, but some people do like scanlines even if it isn't "correct".
Try using a CRT filter
I'm not a fan of just simply doing "scanline" myself. I've been using either 5th gen or computer
Depends on the game. Games that are inherently darker I use the computer filter with. And games that are a little on the brighter side I use the 5th gen
And I use integer scaling in MiSTer
ahh, i dont use any of those preset filter packs things. i found a suitable combination of filters way back when and have used those for pretty much everything, and then depending on how blurry/less blurry i want, i adjust the horizontal interpolation. which is either 50% or 75%
There are no presets yet that include the intl filter as it is not even part of main. You can just use a preset of your liking and add a filter manually as intl filter. It will only be enabled for 480i content so scanlines will keep working on regular 240p. I would recommend GS Sharpness 005 and go up from there while testing a 480i game. I have found that anything higher than that I can see combing artifacts but ymmv.
and if the game only uses 480i for menus you're probably fine with no filter
we need a bigger fpga, lol where's my MA deinterlacer
Forgot about that yes, the filter is used to hide the combing artifacts during motion. So no need for that during static screens. Still it's not really that bad if you leave it on.
is silent hill for PSX and pod racaer for N64 the best to test with the intl vert filter?
ive found with silent hill, if i use bob, my monitor will have some slight persistent image retention
(on the menu and map)
That is common with bob and some IPS screens. Just skip bob, no reason to use that if you have intl filter now.
yeah, that is partly why i was so curious about this new weave option
Pod racer would be better as that shows combing artifacts during motion. During static screens weave does a good job so no need for the filter on silent hill.
in my initial testing, a 50% or 75% comp blend H filter is best with the new vert int filter. using a vertical filter with the int vert filter gives me some weird uneven lines
Just find the one that looks best to you with the games you play. Zakk wisely gave us the option to customize the filter to our hearts content. Any soft enough filter should be good. Most of 480i games I play are fighting games and those really need a very aggressive softening filter to avoid combing artifacts, hence my recommendation for GSsharpness005 and start from there.
you can rename the cue's but not the bins since the cue's contain references to the bins by name
but also its better to just not and name the folders however you prefer instead
Or you could just convert to .chd and rename to whatever you want
you're still renaming folders if you're doing a proper setup tho
true
You don't have to make folders per game with CHD though.
I just have 4 folders Translations, Europe, Japan, USA, and dump the games in their corresponding regional folder
You do if you are playing multi disc games and if you want a memory card dedicated to each game
you don't have to, but you should make separate folders
on top of the multi disc games and memory card situation, if they are in separate directories the core will auto-reset when you load them
I don't really care bout separate men cards for every game. But I get why that'd matter to some
15 blocks should be enough for everyone.
I just erase as need be
I am gonna have to go thru my hard drive now though and put all multi disc games into folders. I'm guessing it works the same with with the Sega CD and Saturn cores as well
Nobody will ever need more than 15 blocks of memory
Iāll never understand the resistance to this. Creating the directories and moving the CHDs is like.. 3 lines of bash, and the directories kind of act like individual files for the purposes of the MiSTer anyway (i.e. you donāt need to navigate down another level)
It's not "resistance" I just found it easy to have all files in regional folders
Every time I read the resistance, I feel like itās because thereās a a person who thinks theyāre going to have to manually āright click, press new folder, copy and paste the nameā etc
I donāt just mean you in this case. Iāve read it probably hundreds of times on here š
ā¦and then when something doesnāt work properly they complain š
I'll just move all my multi disc games to folders and call it a day
I don't know how to mass create folders in the way you mentioned either
So it would be right click new folder for me
Over 2,000 PSX games on this drive so f that
Add Saturn to that mix and Sega CD too
@timber flint in case you are interested
@echo off
for %%i in (*) do (
if not "%%~ni" == "organize" (
md "%%~ni" && move "%%~i" "%%~ni"
)
)
just make a .bat file with this, throw it into the location of all your loose files, and run it.
you can just call the file organize.bat
That's pretty neat. I'll give it a try
and as for multi disc, each disc will get it's own folder so you will have to manually grab those and put them into a single folder but there's not many of those games out there so shouldn't be too hard
actually... if you have bin and cue files, this will make a folder for each file. so it might cause work in that regard
That's how I did it!
my brain was thinking on the default of having chd which is a single file. totally spaced on the two file setup of bin+cue @timber flint
or... since the file name is the same just type is different it might still only make one folder...

All my disc images are in chd
oh well then that removes the possible issue of multiple extra folders lol
You know what also removes all possible issues? Doing it by hand. Like me.
I wouldn't dare. not with a library of 2000 games
as it is though, I get folders for my CHDs by default because the chdman script I have set up creates a folder for the CHD when I run the compression and puts it in there
so I'm not dealing with loose folderless files to begin with
well i tried it on my translations directory first
since there's only 100 disc images in there
and it worked absolutely perfect so thank you very much!
Hexen says hi
That's just one character progress out of three
I remember diablo also taking an mc for itself.
They all become converts when they see how easy it is š
Not sure if anyone answered you at all but if you put the noreset.txt file in with the game and go through the insane amount of issues making a multi bin audio CD then this works really well š
Can you make an audio CD bincue out of random mp3s flacs?
What if I wanna see what happens if I have an audio CD that has numerous versions of Rick Astley's Never Gonna Give You Up?
-# and run through all of them in Vib Ribbon
So what I did way back when multidisc support was being added was convert flac to wav, make an audio cd iso with them then used isobuster to save each track as a bin then put them all into a cue sheet generator and then copied it to my MiSTer
"i just erase as need be" is wild when you have literally infinite memory card space
as need be is never
You can actually rename the rom files, that's no problem at all, but in doing so you also need to open the .cue file and make sure that the .bin files it points to also get renamed the same way. Otherwise the .cue file will point at nothing and the game will not load when you try to boot it.
Because why clutter things up
Besides if the point of Mister is to be close to the original experience as possible, I didn't have 17,000 memory cards when I was a kid
Sounds like someoneās parents didnāt love them. I got 5,000 memory cards for me birthday one year.
as close to the original experiece... + a million nice quality of life things like every game at your fingertips and infinite memory cards
I had 3. Never needed anymore
Sure but after I've completed a game I don't really need the save file anymore anyways.
Damn ok, I only had 2 lol
It took me a while to get a memory card as a kid
Now VMUs.....
I lost even when trolling lol
I lost count of how many VMUs I owned
and i still remember the horror of leaving my PS1 on for WEEKS to eventually unlock and play as Heihachi in Tekken 1.
Then one weekend my mom came down and was cleaning the basement and saw it was on and turned it off
i would like try to hide the ps1 or like put a game on top of it to hide the green LED
I remember a buddy of mine bought a shit 3rd party memory card m made it to the great glacier in FF7
Thereās another 4-5 ps1 cards floating around too
Then his card died
Never saw that before. That's awesome
Ive got saves for a lot of the fighting games that have like 20 characters you gotta unlock by beating the game once for each
Also highly recommend throwing this in your PS1 folder:
pre-done saves for a huge slew of PS1 games with all unlocks done type thing
Nice
so if you wanna jump into like some racing game and have all the tracks and cars or a fighting game thats missing characters, its really handy
@manic citrus , will the new interlace filter work for N64, Saturn and PSX? Or just PSX?
anything that uses 480i
And it is probably advised to turn off the individual interlace solutions to not interfere?
I would use it with weave.
Composite Blend hopefully will not interfere as well
It does not.
Great. Thank yoy, ppl!
Of course, I was wrong. You cannot fully turn off deinterlacing. Thus I will add the filter to (old) weave
Does anyone else find that with fixed HBlank off that things look more ācorrectā (i.e. squashed with it on)? My understanding is that fixed HBlank = on is the right aspect ratio, but without a PS1+CRT to check, I canāt be certain
(Similar to the āoriginalā vs ācorrectedā aspect ratio on the Sega consoles)
Was everything really squashed back in the day? š
The aspect ratio through HDMI never matches my CRT
It's not squashed on the CRT, it's slightly stretched horizontally but I can never dial it to be exactly like it on flat panels
Because CRTs are flawed and imperfect. š
Have you tried choosing the integer option in the core at the top for scaling
Along with h blank and horizontal crop
yes, and it is squashed 4:3 compared to my CRT
Is your CRT overscanned?
no, not much
Do you have the Mister itself set to integer scale for output?
it's set to "fit to screen" but it's the same with integer scale output mode
lemme make some screengrabs
Might depend on the calibration of your crt. If it's set to settings that over scan a little bit and it's not perfectly identical overscan in both directions, it can make your image look a little different
there are no calibrations options there, unless I somehow stumble into the service menu
What CRT you got
Model
As mentioned CRTs are imperfect. And unless you calibrated it to have the image properly maintaining the aspect ratio then it's possible things are a little off on the CRT
Toshiba 29VH36G
Oh good a toshi. Should be easy to get into the service menu. Let me look it up.
Okay, thanks! I'll play with this.
Oh, the 240p test suite thing - I could use that!
quite a lot of psx shooters support mouse its nice
Never heard of Doom Master Edition. What all does it add?
you can only do so much with the menu, but it's looking pretty good in these pictures with no overscan or weird parabelum effects.
I hope you aren't basing the aspect ratio off how the mister OSD looks cuz that'll always be more squished on a CRT
nah, it's based on linearity test on circles
PlayStation Doom: Master Edition. DoomWiki page by @Dark Pulse Finally, Beta 4 is released NEWS: Fourth Beta Release PSXDOOM BETA 4 [11/16/2022]. NEWS: PSP Beta 4 Release : PSP_PSXDOOM_MASTERED_BETA_4 (397MB). Conversion by @Kroc This version isnt more than a hack of the original PSXDoom game. On...
all Doom 1, Doom 2, Master Levels, TNT Evilution, Plutonia and even Sigil maps (the current beta builds don't have og PSX maps though, not yet)
as well as scraps
-# yay even more shitty maps by Christen Klei
if it's not looking right to you, then perhaps the service manual mentions default values you can reset things to and tweak out from there again
I think I dialed it down right and it looks like the flat panel now
nice. gg.
and now you have a CRT picture that doesn't bug you anymore and you can enjoy

did you use 240p test suite on PSX to dial it in? @sinful bloom
yes
if so, did you ever switch it into 240p mode or did you do it all in the default mode?
ah. I was just gonna say if you dial it in for 224p that'll cover PSX and Sega Genesis well, and 240p will simply be slightly overscanned top and bottom
That's pretty sweet
Does it actually have every map? Viewing the map list on the post I just see unique maps that weren't in the original psx/final doom
They are aiming to put in everything including scraps that didn't make it into Master Levels
-# oh joy
Right now only previously missing levels are in the .bin with merger with original game for all the levels planned for final release
Ah okay. I shall wait then.
I absolutely have to ask
Any Bemani heads test out Pop'n, Beatmania 5 Key, GuitarFreaks, etc?
Controllers and games?
Yeah, all works great
Hey everyone. Does anyone know if the PSX PWM core is up to date with the latest changes?
Hmmm.
Did we get any changes recently?
Oh yeah, The weave thing. I don't know if that was pushed to main yet though
The weave thing is kind of useless though if you are using a CRT
At which point I would say the pwmcore is up to date enough with the version before all this new de interlacing stuff.
you can download PWM here. as well as PWM versions of the turbo/overclock cores
Perfect, thank you!
I went down the color rabbit hole⦠Would the 16bit be more similar to a real psx than the 24bit/pwm?
I don't think I've ever seen a real PS1 with color banding
Ive wanted to ask so I know
Any ways to get accessories for the PS1 to work?
NeGCon, Fightsticks, Mouse, etc?
I wanna play Ridge Racer with this
Snac
Oh okay!
PS1 supports 24-bit color modes, so no
@violet dirge when looking at the color modes, you have to make sure to keep the context:
- PS1 supports 24 bit for 2D content only, 3D(gpu rendered) is only 16bit
- In the core, the 16bit rendering option behaves exactly like that(with 24bit for 2D). If you enable 24bit rendering, 3D does also allow 24bit
Leave all core options at default and itāll be like an original PS1
Thank you @tropic stratus. I really appreciate this detailed explanation.š
With PWM, assuming they are using a 6.1 board because otherwise anytime there is content trying to output higher than 18bit it'll get that color banding issue
So not 100% like an actual PS1
If they are using a pro board that can do up to 24bit output then they won't need PWM.
It works like a charm through SNAC, Ive played a bunch of R4 with NeGcon and Jogcon
Anyone with experience with this controller?
I'm using one with snac and pop'n music game but the buttons are all messed up.
I have it, I think.
Yeah, worked fine for me through SNAC
This is a 3rd party one (from Blaze). Buttons are totally out of order.
Ohhh
For use with BLEEM š
This thing is not a pop'n music controller
Damn, I love weird ass controllers like that
I would love to play pop'n music and not that bizarre game
Mine is a poop controller
The more I search, things are getting weirder...
Lol. I cant even test the controller as I dont have the game... And...
Wtf
Yeah, only the Pokemon one has been archived
Bootleg games
maybe you can rewire it.
For pop'n music, it wont work... some buttons sends multiple button presses.
But I can try to make it work via usb. The core have a pop'n mode.
Testing it right now. Awful game! XD
That's not Pikachu, that's Chuggaflu
That Pikachu is for the streets
@ornate lance I am going to assume you are the same jacob vincent who reported the PSX crash bug on github. If so, try this build of main #dev-talk message
One more mercenaries run and the rocket launcher has been unlocked. (One of my favourite games on one of my favourite cores)
Crazy Hits?
I never liked rankings in games. I'm not having fun getting good ones yet I feel compelled to ace them all.
Itās funny, when RE 3 came out it didnāt click with me at all. I was a big fan of 1 and 2, but with Nemesis, I finished it once and that was it.
I decided to give the game a chance again on the mister core a few years back, and playing it on hard mode I finally GOT the game. Now I keep coming back to it once every few months
RE3 and Code Veronica are my favourites.
RE3 is my first survival horror game and I cherish that
Yeah, I think playing the easy/light mode setting kinda killed it for me the first time around. The depth of the ammo mixing system as well as the branching paths⦠really well made.
Code Veronica I need to revisit. Thatās another one I havenāt played since DC
Or no, wait, I did play CVX as well
But even that was like⦠2001 or 2002?
Did you play the other two in the PSX trilogy, Wesley?
On the PSX, I had 1,2,3 and survivor.
My most played would be 3, then 2, then 1 and finally survivor.
I didn't have Silent Hill growing up so I was a bit late to that. Not really played any Dino crisis nor parasite eve. (Can't think of anymore survival/psychological horrors).
Oh, I haven't played clock tower either
(I know you didn't ask me but I thought I'd chime in haha)
Got it working as a pop n music controller on the core. Can finally enjoy the game š
Haha no worries, I appreciate the answer š
Silent Hill is really awesome too. Aaand you really oughta try out Dino Crisis!
Yeah RE3 didnāt feel like a step forward for the franchise at all. Especially with Code Veronica on the Dreamcast and the rumors of it being the true sequel but couldnāt be a numbered entry because of a Sony deal.
You still feel the same way about the two entries?
Huh
RE3 vs CV I mean
Or are you saying thatās what it felt like back then, but now youāve changed your mind?
Oh I dunno. I think I appreciate the Nemesis gameplay more than when I was a kid and I think Iām less impressed with Code Veronica now as I was back then.
We didnāt have the vocabulary back then, but I think if re3 came out today, we would have called it dlc for re2. CV felt like the true sequel
Yeah, that's an accurate description.
It sure is if weāre talking about the remake of RE3 š
Theyāre both cool games for different reasons. I think back then, as a kid, it was like an either or scenario for me. One had to be better and the other had to be inferior.
Which is of course dumb. I think theyāre both great in different ways.
I see what youāre saying though
I appreciate both though... similarly to how I appreciate Castlevania: Bloodlines, even though it was quite the deviation from the norm. Truth be told, it's one of my favorites in the franchise.
Same way I feel about the Terminator: Salvation movie. At least it had the guts to try something different. š
Iām only talking for myself here but I feel as a kid I was a lot more close minded when games did something different. Not that I didnāt like it but I always felt like it was bad when a game deviated from expectations. Now thatās what I love, yes do something wacky with the established norms of the franchise, itās fun.
I was the same way. When I was younger, I just wanted more of the same.
...because I was younger and didn't know any better. š
TLoU2 entered the conversation
Well, I wouldn't go so far as to say 'wacky'.
Terminator: Genisys was wacky.
Please don't do that again...
But it had the⦠confidence? to try something different
Yeaaaaah gimme da wacky
Well, when it comes to Terminator I feel like we said all we had to say with two (great) movies
I love that game
Best 3D Mario by a long way (although I havenāt played galaxy 2)
Astro Bot did it better...
runs and hides
donāt make me choose, I canāt do it
I still need to get that one
itās brilliant man
Maybe after Lunar is over
Especially if you love Sony
I donāt love Sony
I lose my mind over all the nostalgia tugs that game does
I tolerate them š
It's been a long time since a game made me feel that good while playing it... just grinning almost the whole time. Astro Bot is such a joy to experience.
We all know you love a good tug
I was there for the Shenmue 3 kickstarter reveal at the Sony press conference. It was like pure adulation and then absolute confusion as to why Sony just wasnāt paying for it and resorting to Kickstarter.
itās libel
RE3, more like RE Pee
Literally cried tears of joy at that reveal. No form of entertainment has ever done that
But thatās cos it had such an impact in my life and Iād given up hope
RE3 is like someone made Resident Evil but said āletās make it badā
And thatās why youāre always out at the docks looking for sailors
I didn't know there was a a shenmue >1
Exactly
Play go back to 2001 and Shenmue 2
Because of that blasphemy Robby. I will not release the Virtual Boy core I have 100% built.
3 is disappointing, but it always would have been. 2 is a masterpiece
No I am sorry, I was kidding!

The first, yes
oh?
But nothing had ever had that level of realism or detail before
The second has a lot more action and story
hmm
Going back to my retropie raspberry pi 3 now.
I bet the retropie discord really enjoy RE3.
I may have merged 1 and 2 in my mind, I meant the Dreamcast one
1 and 2 both came out on the Dreamcast
In Europe at least
Only the US didnāt get 2 on the DC
1 is in Yokosuka, 2 is in Hong Kong/China
yes I'm in europe
hmm so is shenmue 3 called shenmue 2 in the US?
No
Hello Europe
Theyāre three different games
Shenmue 3 came out in the USA as Shenmue 3
alright
Europe more like Ur Slop
How are those tariffs treating you?
I only buy American made products!
we're making China PAY
Iām sorry
so what is Shamoo
Iām actually am a big fan of the Evercade and theyāre a British company.
well how grand of you
Raspberry Pis are also made in the UK
I also just told their marketing director to stop posting everslop lol
As is the MiSTer multi-system
I like OOHKERS
Hookers with dyslexia?
people from the U.K.
Thatās how you pronounce it right
please don't pronounce it
Oh yeah, of course
I think code veronica x did a lot to damage that game's reputation
I only played the gc version. How is it worse?
Lot of story additions that kinda ruin it
Wesker was a late game reveal that sort of turned the script on its head
Now he appears earlier and is very clearly super juiced earlier
Over 20 years old I think is a moratorium on that personally. Plus hes on the back cover of the ps2 version
I donāt really agree on a retro gaming discord, but I donāt care enough to argue about it
Fair enough
Lol
Iāll give you both that one š
I am going to spend unhealthy amount of time to see how many PS1 games support the mouse now
I am also curious if there were good options back in the 90s to output PS1 to the CRT monitor
See this is why I hope the mistest/mister 2 has dreamcast capacity. Because I want more folks to play og cv
And actual good mouse options
My life would be complete with DS and DC cores
See I want to live to a point where we can see either 7th gen fpga or static recompilation for xbox, gc and ps2
And dreamcast
There are so many games that need something better than emulation
Mainly seaman
And d2 and illbleed
And blue stinger with restored fixed cameras
God I love dreamcast
Favorite console with the most limited library
ah, there ya go

I actually still have one of these, was using it before I got a ps1digital
(and I actually still have the ps1digital, was using it before the MiSTer core š )
you ever had issues with PS1 freezing or stopping reading data?
I took a look and the caps are all fine so whatever my woes are they're hidden under a soldered heatsink plate where the XStation is
Well, like most people I had that with a real drive in '96, but never since X-Station
The interesting thing about the Waka is that it's the only officially licensed 'upscaler' ever produced for a console. Has it's own SLPH peripheral number.
I got a stupid thing on my mind
what's the highest resolution MiSTer (cores) can output? just 480i?
is uprezzing to some magnamous 960p to HDMI out of the question?
minimig can do 1920x1080 with RTG
Good job you have a MiSTer!
I'm dumb, it was a 256gb kingston on my XStation
I'm testing out the 128gb sandisk ultra that was on my MiSTer
Oh, goodie
I am shelving it back
I don't think Driver 2 loads it's missions for 10 minutes
Beautiful clean white walls you got there
It's darkish gray
but thanks, was fussing long over them
I love the idea of DC on an FPGA as we would then be very close to covering all the major consoles of the 90s. Having a PS2 implementation would be a dream come true (unlikely, I know, but I can still dream), considering how finicky PS2 modding and emulation can be
Which is why I think static recomp will work better in the long run
If there is a FAR OFF console I want... its probably PSP on fpga
But then you'd need to run something that can get up to 333 mhz and its gpu
The only reason it ~might~ be possible is the fact that its not much more powerful than a dreamcast
yeah, but then we're really reaching, I'm sure
Anyway
Did you ever play Dino Crisis 2? I've heard it's good, but very different from the first one. Thinking about getting into it soon
yeah its basically an arcade game
I like
it
the true survival horror sequel is Dino Crisis 3 and... welll
best leave it at that
Xbox exclusive š
more to the point terrible TERRIBLE fixed camera angles
Gotcha, so no need to even try 3 then?
Well its an interesting story
But its just... borked
But if you got like a working xbox it wouldn't be a terrible waste of a couple hours. Just frustrating
Dino Crisis 3 killed it and Exoprimal covered the coffin in cement
Actually no.
- exoprimal is not DC related
- There are rumblings of a RE2R style remake
It is consistently the top of the "What games do you want remade" surveys they put out every quarter
capcom put this out
a while ago
without any sort of rereleases
-# why
oh, it's on gog now
question
is there a concise, complete, readily accessible repository of PlayStation demo discs?
all regions
Hmmmm, ok then Iām not sure, sorry
Does psx require opening the osd to save? Maybe it's just saving really fast, but half the time I check it says it's already saved
Yeah. Guess some saves are small enough that it's near instant
try Hexen and its chonkin' 16 blocks of save data
I also make sure that when I quit and turn off the mister. Il always go into the OSD menu and click reboot.
Tbh if you look at the franchise, there is no consistency lol
DC1 : classic style survival horror
DC2: action game
DC3: action game in space
DS: lightgun game
I would really like a full on remake of 1 done nicely, but like, this franchise has never really had a clear vision lol
But yeah, the re-release of the games on GoG is at least something, there is definitely interest in revisiting the series for something new
I hope they do decide to remake dino crisis and it performed well sale wise so maybe they'll decide its worth reviving the franchise with another entry
Check archive I found a complete collection of dreamcast demo disks
is Dino Rex basically Dino Crisis 4
(before you say it, I know it's not LITERALLY)
I mean it has half the name
yeah
I finished the game with both X and zero with no issues
`Enigma/Shuttle RNG exceptions:
Enigma/Shuttle launch with no parts will always fail.
Shuttle launch with all 4 parts will always succeed.`
and that's how it should be
the way vanilla game generated a random seed is BULLSHIT
easily manipulatable but god damn
Cutscenes and dialogues skip by pressing START
also as huge as shutting up Alia
yeah these are all great changes, I approve
Exactly
Also yesss
Alia can be turned off in the menu at the start
Used it for RR, RRR, and RageRacer. Was absolutely perfect for the games.
it's a polarizing game that comes off as cheaply made after X4
I dunno, I think X4 was the most surprising, being a space game
no sign of mega man
I've beaten mega man 2 and got to the end of X lol
Megaman 2 is a lot easier than I remember
Mega Man 2 mainly suffers from several "do-or-die" scenarios, but otherwise it's mostly fair enough.
I was shocked that I could beat most bosses with just the Mega buster
Yeah the crash bomb screen is some BS but just save state and look up the right order lol
"Normal Mode" is a new easy mode to americans
"Difficult" is the original difficulty
it is a great introduction to newbies nonetheless and less patronizing than the platforms over bottomless pits in MM10
I've only ever played the US version on normal
I suspect most people are
It's literally the list of my favourites to some extent xD Great fighters in there
I'm curious: does the 2x core pinned up there contain the new deinterlacing method?
Probably not
The new deinterlacing method is not core dependent. You can use it with any core as long as you are using the latest mister unstable. Just set the deinterlacing method to weave and set a intl filter in the video filters section.
eventually the cores will have the improved bob, but honestly I'm not sure how useful it even is at this point
It will fix the weird cropping stuff on the morph
shouldn't you be feeding the morph DV without bob anyways?
Yeah, I'm not aware of any cropping issues on the tink.
it bobās twice in DV
load up fighting vipers and youāll see
there are none, itās morph only
You can also load up any jaguar game
or turn bob on in the PSX core
Wild. But how? DV is just the interlaced signal, isn't it? The mister doesn't do anything like bob or weave or whatever to it, it's all the scaler, isn't it?
it is something with the current bob being a hack. at least I think that is what zakk said
that video is from when I was troubleshooting it with the morph guys
Well, they were shooting blanks then.

you shouldn't have bob on if you're using dv
that's the solution
I know you're not trying to have a multi-purpose mister here. if you want one that you can use with non-DV hdmi, you damn well know you need to purchase yet another mister!
and yeah, bob strips the field flag internally on the mister, so the bit of code that relies on that to set the DV metadata no longer sees the video is interlaced so it unsets the flag
how do I turn it off?
because things like the jaguar core just have it on
(even in DV)
Just buy a tink.
what games on jag are interlaced?
Step 2: throw morph in the trash.
It happens on the bios
but did you see how pretty it is?!
jag seems fine here. there's no deinterlacing involved with jag
in DV?
This is what troy looks like for me
both the morph and the core are in default settings š¤·āāļø
I always assumed that morph and tink are pretty comparable. I think @serene nebula has morph friends that gave him one for free. Maybe he could use his corrupt power to make them fix it?
it works fine on my morph
I wish I knew what setting it was - it does this on the TV downstairs too
it's running the frimware from literally today
yeah, just did a factory reset ĀÆ_(ć)_/ĀÆ
lmao, it's the morph firmware
I just updated from some 3.9 to 3.11 and now mine is messed up too
riot
Can you downgrade?
yeah
Oh no shit?
Let me know if downgrading fixes it
I'll do it later today/tonight. I helpfully don't remember which 3.9 I was on
Downgrade to a tink then.
I already have too many scalers
Let me try some versions.
I updated to 3.9 like a month or two ago so pretty recently
It's really nice
Mike saves us from sinning by not releasing tink4k STLs
@grand dirge just bringing your attention to this
i'm tracking down whihc version it broke in right meow
was going to ping him in the dev channel so we stopped shitting up the psx channel with our nonsense
Right meow!
Goated movie
sure, spend over twice the money (close to RTX 5080 money) for pretty much same results
forwarded it to team
It has analog inputs!!!!
Pretty sure the tink4k is only $750 and the cut down version of the 4K is like $400.
Yeah. A 5080 is like.... $2000
Msrp don't mean shit
wait closer
Actual retail prices are all that matter
I'm very happy we have options for scalers.
can you call yourself a retro gamer if you don't buy both?
Don't forget that the internal scaler on mister is an option as well, and it's FREE! So best choice for the money!
Just get a crt
IM TRYING STOP TAUNTING ME
So I got a question for y'all
Any of you try any GT hacks on MiSTer?
Like GT2 A-Spec
At work, thinking of trying it but doubting it would work lol
If it works on original hardware it should in theory work perfectly fine on MiSTer
Trying it out real quick, seems to be working just fine on MiSTer. Can go into the new menus, hear new music, and do some license tests
Oh sweet
I keep forgetting MiSTer emulates hardware
Yes. And from what I know pretty much all cores are fine with ROM hacks that work on original hardware.
The only exception right now would be still in development cores like Saturn and cores that are not 100% perfectly like original hardware due to not having enough logic for it on the fpga or something to do with the DDR3 memory which would be the N64 core (which currently at the moment has people developing a compatibility list for ROM hacks)
But PSX is complete and not missing anything and pretty much perfect as far as I know so all games hacks/mods that work on original hardware should work on the core
Sorta, itās a speed issue with the DDR3, not a logic issue.
The only missing āfeatureā is the mpeg board compatibility but thatās mainly due to lack of interest than hardware limitations.
The DDR3 speed issue can also be fixed by using the fast timings option in the single sdram version of the core or using dual sdram.
That requires manually changing it for the specific use case right? Or using an mpl?
For the mpeg card? I do not know, itās been requested since 2023 but thereās no interest to implement it.
Can y'all explain how you guys are getting the gradient applied to your username?
I'm talking about the ddr3 speed thing you mentioned
Itās some server feature thing, I donāt know. Birdybro/Kitrinx changed it.
Yes itās a manual toggle-able option.
It hasnāt been thoroughly tested for every single game out there to see if it breaks comparability which is why itās off by default.
But so far no one has reported it breaking any games. š¤·āāļø
I think they've applied it to most all the default roles in the server. But I might have to ping one of them and ask them if they can apply it to the custom roles like mine
I suppose the only issues I've ever encountered with the psx core is with some of the PAL modes, the NTSC versions are always fine. Quickest demo of a PAL issue would be the intro video of Gran Turismo, where the video appears at the top of the screen instead of vertically in the middle. But it always causes issues with vscale options too, even at 60Hz
Right
Ive heard there's some deinterlacing core or something for the PSX. I have a couple of questions
Is there a 2xcpu version?
Is there a noticeable difference in the deinterlacing? My mister is connected to my TV via hdmi if that makes a difference
it's just a different version of bob that doesn't bounce as much. honestly use a unstable main and use the new interlaced vertical filter. for high motion stuff set some sort of interpolation there to smooth out the motion combing artifacts
Okay dokey, thank you Zakk.
I do still think the new bob is worth keeping since it's just a different vibe. It provides a sharper image than the other option with a pretty minimal bounce effect.
Thanks lol
Hi all, could use some help troubleshooting. I had the PSX core work for me once, then I turned on DV1. After that, I just get a black screen on load. No bios splash screen.
I've deleted the core, bios files, and ran update_all again, which put everything back. Same behavior. I see one of the pinned messages mentions deleting the core config. Can someone point me to where that's stored? I didn't see an obvious location for it on the file system
Switching back to DV 0 doesn't fix it š¦
It's in the config folder
when it boots, can you still open the menu?
Yup, can still open the menu. When I load a game it displays a region in the upper left, but nothing.
Thanks I'll dig for the config folder when I have a moment. Guessing it's not in media/fat
Games are off a CIFS share, but like I said, no BIOS splash screen. The ones downloaded by update_all should be correct right?
yes, but it depends on where the core is looking
are the bios files on the cifs share?
(they need to be)
In theory, update all should be putting them in your cifs share, but if the cifs isn't mounted when you launch update all, it will put them on the SD card
That did it. Moving the boot from files to the CIFS share allowed the core to boot! Odd that it's not really mentioned in the GitHub. It's pretty explicit about having them in games/psx
Thanks for the help!
Itās because, when you mount cifs, your cifs share becomes /games/psx
@tropic stratus
Thought youād appreciate this. One of the local guys in the Rhythm game scene made a board that lets you interface the arcade pads to USB, PS2, GC, or Xbox
system 573 core when
Someone was trying to sell him on it not long agoā¦. I would love it obviously lol
Looks good. I have this one currently, 1ms USB is fine for me š
The arcade DDR games would be interesting for sure. Hopefully they are not that hard as the japanese DDR games on ps1.
I mean, the US ones you can miss 15-30 steps each track.
On the Japanese it yells at you if you missed 1 at all and if you miss like 3-4 in a row you loose instantly
man they're serious about fun
LTEK makes really solid stuff for sure
Same one I have, they make really good mats
Only downside i noticed is some corrosion(?) on the detection metals below the plates.
After some months of not using it, I had to open it and scratch with a knife between the metals.
Simple solution: I'm using it 1-2 times per week now.
Good for the device and for me š
sweat is quite corrosive
My sweat destroyed the charging contacts on my Fitbit. That's why I wear a casio gshock gbd200 now.
is it moulded as one piece or something?
The gbd200 has a stainless steel back and runs on a cr2032 battery, so no contacts that could corrode. But it still has a step counter so I can track my daily exercise.
Apologies if this is already detailed somewhere, but when playing a multi disc game, how do I consolidate the saves into one .SAV file?
Context: playing Armored Core: Master of Arena, a 2 disc game. Completed the 1st disc. Can't find an option to switch 'discs' (.bin/cue files) while the game is running. When running disc 2 from boot, I had to manually mount the disc 1 save, but from there it's not clear if it then writes to the disc 1 save, or creates a separate disc 2 save from that.
Ah, whoops. I suppose I'll just have to rename the .SAV to the title of the subfolder, then.
Thank you!
Ok, have I done this wrong?
I put disc 1 and 2 inside a subfolder, and renamed the save, but it still created a 'Disc 1' save on boot.
Game folder.
Game subfolder containing both discs.
Still created a 'Disc 1' save.
The non-disc-specific renamed save is directly above it. I had to mount it manually again.
you have directories inside of directories
both discs files need to be in that same directory, the 'Armored Core - Master of Arena' one
Oh. I see.
snek board?
Or something different
I know the person who makes those, good stuff
I would love to get a DDR cab but I just don't have enough space
Yeah I met him at MaxMode a couple weeks ago, they ran an ITGmania event alongside all the fighting games
I'm trying to get Bishi Bashi Special working with a second player using a snac adaptor. Every other two player game works fine but Bishi Bashi for whatever reason only detects player 1
I just figured it out lmao
Player one selects BOTH players
Then the controllers work in the main game
Finally decided to try and sell my complete PS1 Playstation Underground demo disc collection. Its so hard to not pull the listing for these.
Just noticed a bug, R Type Delta playing just now - latest core, the walker on stage 3, its legs dont work correctly - it never lifts them but instead just judders
PSX v250102 R Type Delta USA
Okay, I've done a savestate just before entering the third stage.
MiSTer v250430
PSX v250401 >> Sole change is the new deinterlacing method implemented.
I can't see any issue right there @fierce shale
The game works as intended, please verify with the savestate, and if you don't a cheat code activated which could break your game.
And finally, try to change your game dump.
MiSTer wins again!

Gottem!
MiSTer is a scam
Itās not working on my mars console
Next time, try with a Neptune.
Was literally what that one dude said in his video lol
Canadian gamer or something?
it's called mars cause you have to go to the planet Mars to get one. also it's a one way trip. also you die. also there is no console.
I remember that. He was either ragebaiting or generally just didnāt understand what MiSTer actually is. I remember he kept referring to it as an upscaler
All this talk about MiSTer successors. It just confuses new users, they think they will wait for the next big thing which then never happens.
Only ZUUL
Mars may be a real thing. Takiās new board may be a real thing. The de25 nano may be a real thing
But they arenāt right now
And so there is no successor
Tell them about the Twinkie
God I need to watch that movie again some time, its been so long
Hearing everyone chanting "GHOSTBUSTERS" to the theme song at the end of the movie in the cinema is such a core memory
It is one of my favorites. My godmother took me to see it in the theater when I was two and Iām told I sat quietly for the whole movie and watched it. First movie I saw in theaters technically
Damn, couldn't imagine what was going inside your little brain at two in that movie š
I remember not liking the librarian reveal for a while after. Other than that it was fine. I guess the dog in the closet scared me for a bit too
Chat GPT is helping me make a Solid Snake Poggers Emote LUL
It looks hilarious personally.
Its so bad its funny LOL
ā
i posted a video of my R Type Delta issue if anyone has played it and can look, https://github.com/MiSTer-devel/PSX_MiSTer/issues/313#issuecomment-2892239311
So this walker is meant to pick up its legs as it comes across the screen - it never does for the forward right leg, it just judders. This is broken. Latest version of the core afaik v250102
walker acting funky
Iām also a Canadian gamer, and Mister has destroyed my finances because I had to take out two mortgages to buy it.
#1046940919607345272 message
will try without the cheat on but this is what happens
I did try it when you first posted the issue but couldn't replicate it. Have you tried different region dumps?
verrrry interesting
so I just tried it without the no death cheat on and it works fine. TBF I dont usually play it with cheats on at all and was messing around with settings so that is curious as to why that causes it... but without works fine
So, the cheat was breaking the logic of the boss.
yes weird
Lol I luckily got my order in from digikey.ca before they hiked the prices
I got mine from all over in about 2019. Smokemonsters countdown (specifically the neogeo part) made me pull the trigger
Yeah I bought mine in 2023 from digikey and mister addons but my dad passed away so I didnt fully build mine till early 2024
It wouldn't be the first time cheats break something in game.
So it's probably good to close that issue then.
The issue should be closed, yes.

šŖ

Is this the recommended core version to play PlayStation games on the mister?
No. The recommended core is whatever the update script pulls.
If you want to test things and deal with any potential complications an unstable core has then you can grab that one.
I see! Thanks š
my PSX core is being weird. I can only load one game (only tested with CHD roms) at a time. and if i switch games it does nothing. I have to re-launch the core every time I load a new game
not sure how long this has been an issue as I haven't really touched the PSX core in a long time prior to recently
Are all .chd's inside /games/PSX?
No subfolders?
The current behavior is that the core counts a subfolder as a one game, and inside it can have one or multiple discs
It seems it switches discs without launching a new game because it thinks you just loaded a different disc from the same game
yes, they are all straight in /games/PSX.
when I try to load a new game the mister menu does say "Region US" on the top left corner but doesn't actaully change anything.
And the reason why was just explained to you š
yup, gotcha. thanks! š i always wondered how i'd manage multi-disc games i guess that explains it
Ye. Every game needs to be in its own folder
It also makes it so that every game gets its own virtual memory card
You don't necessarily have to relaunch the whole core though. If you select a new ISO you can then open up the menu again and at the bottom select the reset option which is the same as hitting the reset switch on a real console
I have a batch script that can put everything into its own folder for you if you want to use it. Multi disc games will require you to go and manually consolidate them into one folder
i'm good, thanks! I don't keep too many of of the CD-based games on my SD Card at a time
Little by little, every hidden gem in ps1 is getting translated https://x.com/vervalkon/status/1925523373771137375?t=YfAzNS-73FeUQpsVtY3JIg&s=19
There's never been a better time to be a ps1 enthusiast
Or to have a great FPGA core by the amazing Robert Peip
why is it legal to call these gems hidden
Because MetalJesus didnāt trademark the term
damn
What is next when y'all are done with the hidden gems on psx? Still waiting for a translation for neon genesis 64.
Hidden gems on the Sega 32X
Theyāre so well hidden nobody has discovered a good game on the system yet
Is there anything interesting about that game other than being about evangelion?
That would be nice
It looked lame based on youtube videos TBH
Does there need to be anything more?
Yes. There are many other eva games.
You can play the ones Derek pascarella translated
I mean, no hate from me, whatever floats your boat
"We have evangelion at home" is all I hear.
I think there is a dedicated n64 translation group you could probably ping them on the everdrive forums
Top 10 Japan N64 Titles requesting to be translated
There it is
Evangelion was suggested
Love how they also use the term hidden gems.
There is a korean translation, so I imagine there has been some of the groundwork done to get this going.
Nevermind, the translator hasn't participated in the forums since 2018
No blog, no page. Maybe try your luck at rdhn forums
I hope we eventually see an English translation of Kowloon's Gate. That game looks so messed up. I want to play it so bad
A bunch of those got translated fortunately.
Iād love for the Doraemon games to get a translation.
We will for sure if cargodin is working on it https://www.romhacking.net/forum/index.php?topic=39950.0
Also, very exciting, he's doing fox junction and tengai makyo 4
That is awesome to see. hopefully we see it sometime this year!
Oh shit, is that the one thatās takes place in the US?
Would you post the link? (I donāt have twitter so I canāt see the replies where the link is)š
I was so happy when I saw this game pop up. Weāre running out of high profile games to translate though. A good problem to have. Plus thereās a never ending supply of obscure jank to translate.
It would be nice to have that summer vacation game translated
I played the translated 2nd Boku game on PS2 last year and it was an absolute joy, I highly recommend playing that whilst waiting for the first game to be translated.
There's still a TON of interesting PS1 games like Gunparade March, London Seirei Tanteidan or Panekit which I would kill to see translated. There's a massive amount of games that sit between high profile and jank which would be appreciated by the community if they got translated.
I bought Natsumon for Switch. I should really play it.
Got that on my Steam wishlist for when I have better hardware. Initially I was disappointed that the painted backgrounds are no longer a thing but it looks like it still retains the charm of the Boku games.
Cyber Org, Deep freeze, Gadget, Silver case and Fist of the North Star are whatās coming to mind for me. The jp ps1 library is vast though, like the Saturn.
Oh I forgot about Panzer bandit
Has anyone tried to play through the first Suikoden on MiSTER? Im having an issue
Teo is unkillable in the duel As soon as his life bar gets lower I start doing 2 or 3 damage, youtube videos dont show this.
Do you have cheats on?
no
Ok had to ask because that's broken things on other games before
when I load up the game cheats are on but nothing selected , I turn cheats off, then start the game, load my save sit through the 8 minutes of cut scenes. Get my ass handed to me by Teo and reset
at first I thought I was under leveled, till I found a youtube of a guy at a lower level with the same gear doing more damage and taking less. Then when I finally lucked out to getting Teo almost beaten, and stared doing 3 damage, I knew something was wrong
be happy to pull my save/save state off if someone can help
Whatās the repro rate on the issue?
100%
Oh I mean how many times have you tried it
at first I thought i was under leveled

has a duel against Teo, that if you aren't prepared for, you will lose Pahn for good!
#suikoden #eiyudenchronicle #gaming
Im a higher level than the guy in this video with the same gear
damages are all wrong on my game, tried 1.0 and 1.1
can you make a save state right when you're about to beat them?
I have a save at the start of the fight
yeah, but I'm not good at that game, so a save state right at the end of the fight would help me try to reproduce it
if you can get us a save state where he is one rock from being killed, we could get a couple of folks to try and reproduce
I dont have the patience to do this anymore tho....
For Suikoden on the PlayStation, Guide and Walkthrough by Cyril.
thats the guide on what to pick, its zero skill
he shouldnt be taking zero damage when you attack and he defends
where are the saves at on the mister?
that should have beaten him with like 50 damage but it does 3
after that Teo attacks and kills you no matter what you do
this is near the start of the fight .
should mention your life bar is on the right not the left
heres the MC
the only save state that I can get to load is the first one
the 2nd one you posted just reboots the core
and the save says "no data found"
got it
I canāt beat them either but I also donāt know how the game is supposed to work
youtube video should give you roughly the expected values
as the CPU has less health he takes less and less damage, thats not how the game is supposed to work
yeah, we would need someone to take your save and try it against real hardware
is this a mandatory fight? Asking, because i know that this game was completed already on the core.
if a savestate works for you but not for others, it highly suggests it's not the same CD image used or some different setting(stability relevent setting, not something like resolution)
In the MiSTerās realm of cores so grand,
White names struggle to understand.
āWhy wonāt this load? Itās all astray!ā
Pink and purple: āDid you update_all today?ā
I donāt know the game, but itās pretty popular so Iād be surprised if multiple people hadnāt already beaten it successfully. Maybe some of the hardcore RPGers can help? @somber steppe?
Worked back when we didn't even have sound yet.
mandatory for it to happen, you dont have to win but if you lose you cant get the best ending
vanilla settings other than the controller set to digitial
It being suikoden I would not be surprised if it was just a bug in damage calculation
Would be interesting to use the normal save in an emulator (though more cumbersome real hardware).
oh and scanlines
I vaguely remember having seen something like that decades back on a s2 playthrough on real hardware
Thatās a good idea- try the save on a e.g. duckstation and see how that fares. Still not original hardware, but another data point
If you search zakks name and look under files posted by him you'll find it. That's the easiest way i search for things
Isn't it installed by default?
No idea, wouldn't be surprised if it's not
