everyone knows peppa pig (jpn dub) is the greatest anime
And go “hmmm yes, ultima underworld on the PSX is quite a treasure”
50 years of Sazae-san await storage on your NAS
Oh yeah, Crayon Shin-chan is funny
dp isnt responding because he's so excited to download it all
Damn my troll attempt didn’t even register with you. Was it bad?

Honestly it is, it feels like an early elder scrolls game
can't waste the bandwidth, have to capture it all before it escapes
yah it’s cool
I’m also in the “hoard all the ROMs on a NAS” club, but I use a ROM manager to manage it, and it does everything I want it to perfectly except support CHD*. 😭 But hopefully support does get added one day and I’ll be able to reclaim so much space. Haha.
*Unless the listings in the DAT are in CHD already, but of course they aren’t.
I thought RomVault supported chd but never tried?
although that seems like it would be a pain to update your romsets
every time there is a change the game would need rebuilt and converted back to chd
maybe something can do that, would be nice if you only keep chd sets
i manage my zip sets, and convert to chd manually right now
and keep both
RomVault only supports it if the DAT has the games listed in CHD, and as Redump are BIN/CUE it means it doesn’t work with them. No way to just compress it on the fly like you can with a ZIP option, for instance.
Let’s not discuss those places please
Datfiles aren’t copyrighted information, but okay.
you look like a dat file
You got me
i got you good
Just to clarify, RomVault is an app for verifying files, not a website
Oh ok, thank you.
I think that’s fine then, the name concerned me for a moment lol
what I’m just trying to do a good job, I can make mistakes
oooooo you just posted a gif
...and Robby ROFL'd it! 😲
It's just his nervous rofl
I should have my dual ram setup going here in a day or two. Is the dual ram PSX core worth running or should I stick to the single core?
Are there any downsides to using the dual ram version?
assuming storage not an issue, is CHD and bin format the same in terms of speeds/how the mister accesses the files?
for speeds, I think I remember chds having issues if you forced the cd speed hack to 3x/4x, other than that, if you're playing at original psx cd speed, there's no difference
there’s a different compression method for CHD that solves that issue
Gross
ohh, any info on this or how to distinguish ?
Don’t CHDs need to decompress data so that’s why the 3x or 4x hack messes them up?
it has to do with the compression algo's decompress speed
there's a different one from default that sacrifices space savings for speed that works with 4x, IIRC
but I can't find the exact thinger about it at the moment
Sorry not home but I have a bat file that has the compression routines you need to run instead
@echo off
chdman --make-better -i brian.cue -o brian.chd
what is the size difference using this method?
I never had any chd issues yet so didnt know there was an issue
you only run into problems (maybe) if you push the cd read speeds up
oh you mean on the core
Yeah it’s literally just a PSX core issue
i usually dont change that.. just for neo geo cd
ill probably use the method you are talking about for neogeo cd if it causes issues there
I actually don’t know, when I heard about that I just conveyed all my discs that way

Oh lol, thank you very much!
lol, I've been playing G Darius lately, and it took me three play throughs before I discovered the beam weapon mechanic from captured enemies (I thought you could only detonate them into that explosion). I only discovered it because I was watching the demonstration and saw the cpu use it. I was wondering why the bosses were such damage sponges!
I heard you like beams....
salty bet mexi-beams
Not just beams. Hype beams!
I wonder if he bumped into Homer Simpson.
you mean the bad art project?
I too can stuff bones in a pinata
yea... but the DNA test would show its alien or human
i mean animal or human
this one isnt easily as debunked
but yea it looks fake as hell
I mean, the guy already got caught lying about this shit previously
he got fooled by someone else
yeah, that's what they all say
he falls for shit
he isnt the one who found it
he just presents it
im not saying its real but this time im not 100% sure either way
at least we got good memes from it
I dont think its an alien ... if its real I think its a little hybrid creation from long ago
like little midget hybrid pinatas
if its a hoax, its a very old one
likely not meant to be a hoax, just an art piece like you said
You should do this once on a while to teach children the consequences of violence.
@azure reef they're fake https://youtu.be/jiqkbpqVwGg?t=355

Extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence. This ain't that.
None of video or eyewitness evidence is good enough either.
Whenever I see silly shit like this these days, I can't help but wonder what actual serious shit is going on in the world that this 'distraction of the week' is meant to keep me from paying attention to.
Can we use the alien tech to make the next MiSTer?
Any Alien who makes it across inter stellar space isnt going to hide
Anyone have any idea how to get the crosshair to display in time crisis when using a mouse?
It shows up on the menu, but sadly not when in game
Hey friend, when you’re using the GunCon option for PAD1 in the core menu, a new option appears below “PAD2” called Show Crosshair. You’ll want that on.
Sadly if I have Guncon selected, I can’t control it with the mouse (unless I’m doing something wrong) 😔
oh right you specifically said mouse, sorry
Selected some from the "cheats " and they don't work?
Try choosing fewer of them e.g. 2 and see if they work
Anyway, I noticed that not all of them work ok
I tried the one that says unlock all and nada
Reset game in-between each time I changed cheats
I checked in a few games and cheats work, but not every one
Some are good , some not
games with patches sometimes have cheats that don't work
not sure what that game is
thats the only time i ran into an issue using cheats
but i think ive only used them once, so doesn't really say much
tried to use it on a translation of some sort
can't even recall
Found the handy padtest.exe program and linked to it in the pins. It’s an awesome way in the PS1 core to verify if your controllers are mapped correctly - #1046940919607345272 message
Is there a way to hide most of the options? My son is starting to play PS1 games on the MiSTer and he keeps fumbling around the menus and changing them all to god knows what.
My friend there is an awesome solution for us dads, all thanks to @rotund sphinx
; code if less than osd_lock_time seconds have passed since the OSD was closed.
; set to 0 for manual lock from OSD
osd_lock_time=5 ```
Like to unlock it?
To load games
I had this thought the other day
ideally there would be a way to lock everything but the load games menu but the NFC thing could work
although thousands of games would get awkward
We could just play the good ones
always thought that mistercade accessory was cool specifically for that reason, keeping the OSD menu stuff totally seperate
That’s pretty smart
I wanted to build a vintage hifi style case for my mister and would put the buttons with a navigation knob on the front.
ain't that the truth
One of my favourite TV shows and one of my favourite consoles, what can go wrong.
"Reuploaded for better size"
What's this, a spinner?
Apparently a remote?
its from misteraddons, specifcally for the mistercade.
MiSTercade is the best solution for interfacing MiSTer FPGA with a JAMMA arcade cabinet. 0.7ms of input latency, 20W mono audio amplifier, and 3.2V video levels, identical to the Neo-Geo MV1C. Lots of accessories to customize your install, including MiSTercade Remote, button breakouts, and Versus!
not a spinner, the dial is a volume knob. the idea is more for people with an arcade cab setup that already has the controls and provides the extra inputs for volume/menu/add coin
but i always liked the idea of something like this even outside of the mistercade context
Now THAT is a Hidden Gem©
whats the redump playstation gameshark updates set? is this useful for mister at all?
PlayStation GameShark Updates - Datfile (30) (2023-09-14 23-17-56)
Not really. That's just a database of GameShark/action replay/etc... discs.
yeah it’s called a PS1!
PSOne
(╯°□°)╯︵ ┻━┻
yeah I remember when PS1 was called PSX
it was just called PSX
PS1 sony just called PlayStation until the tiny model they called PSOne
I dont recall them ever calling the original playstation PS1 or PSX
those are probably just names gamers came up with
I'll be deep in the cold cold ground before I recognize PS1
PSX was an early term Sony apparently used. It caught on in gaming mags and that's where all us olds got it. 😆
We should probably let it go at this point. It has been nearly 30 years...
none of the names bother me
except PSOne I dont really like
but its really just to signify that little white mini console version
which I had with a screen at one point
PSlim
Never! Row row, fight the powah!
Yah I don’t care what it’s called. Although there was a helpful infographic that demonstrates how PSX was widely used beyond just being a code name.
Posted by @hollow cypress - #general-banter message
and for me, the Xbox One will always be the Xbox 720. 😏
I have this battle with people regularly when the call the Original PlayStation the PSX.
Its because reportedly its codename whilst in Development Was PlayStation X.
I have this Demo too 🙂
Yep, and all of the media outlets started calling it that and Sony didn't object... but Sony never officially called it that publicly.
I never got bent out of shape about it. I don't really consider it much different than calling the Atari VCS the '2600'... at least during its early years. Atari did eventually officially rebrand the VCS as the 2600 approximately 5 years after it was first released.
I'll start calling it PlayStation X
now I am calling it Super PlayStation X
I'll just call it PSEX.
Back then it was just the Playstation since there wasn't other Playstations. I called it PSX until 2003, after that I used PS1.
LOL, poor @ebon tinsel had to suffer through War Gods for today's video! And by "suffer", I mean have a blast playing the N64's best game.
well it is on psx too I think
weird game
lol thats funny how that girl shakes her tits after the match
Internally at Microsoft they were absolutely furious over it being called the Xbone lmao
c-level executives were apparently “seething”
I’m sure it was all the other stuff contributing to that but ehh
Should have predicted customer shenanigans before naming it that lol
I think every company should just have a couple of teenagers on the payroll to run shit like names and logos past
things like this could be caught way earlier
My info is via 343 contacts at the time but apparently they didn’t do that or Xbone never came up?
The whole XB1 launch was disastrous anyways
I wonder what they think of the xsex
This is how you share games with your friends on MiSTer FPGA.
DMs Robby ROMs
yeah, sony dunking on them lol
Robby ROMS sounds like a character in a PSA about downloading
Robby ROMs sounds like a website Nintendo would have shut down already.
From 2004

Should have kept the MSX naming convention. PS2 should have been PSX2.
You wouldn't download Robby would you?
You need to provide your own Robbys unfortanately, google is your friend
I just run update_robby.sh
He turned into a fatbaby last update, wtf are the devs doing with that core
It just removes everything on your MiSTer except the Saturn core and Magic Knight Rayearth.
It renames and swaps the N64 and Saturn cores, and they autoload the quest game and MKR
Don't forget the secret code that unlocks War Gods.
Can anyone help me with cheats or memory card conversion for the PS1 core? I messed up and overwrote my gran turismo save with the license tests unlocked when i was configuring my wheel for it. don't want to spend hours going through that again
cant figure out cheats or how to get a memory card converted for it, just dead-ends with everything i try
Trying to record a video for the Japan version without copyright music all over it, trying this DexDrive save: From DIX_coltd (08/22/2006; 128KB)
For Gran Turismo on the PlayStation, GameFAQs has 19 save games.
I used a converter to get it to .sav format for mister and still doesnt work for some reason
Site I'm using is https://savefileconverter.com/, tried converting from "PS1 - DexDrive" format to Emulator, then converting to MiSTer FPGA format after that
hmm.. wouldn't you want to get that save onto a memory card image?
with a tool like: https://www.raphnet.net/programmation/psxmemcardmgr/index_en.php
i dont know. i have no idea what "DexDrive" format is
it's the format of an old school method of backing up saves from real hardware
so with psx memcard manager you should be able to open up the mc file on the MiSTer, and load the dexdrive format save onto it, without any need to convert it
Hope this helps
how do i load the memcard manager on mister?
oh i think i see, it saves as .mc after
ah that did it! couldnt see the mc file but once renamed to .mcd the core could read it
not obvious from the menu because it says "SAV,MC" so it seemed like it should work
issue is that the OSD does not have enough room to show the full "SAV,MCD" there it seems
thanks @rare gyro !
cheats are still confusing as hell. none of the ones i tried worked
Hey no problem! Sorry I couldn't help you a couple minutes ago, but I'm glad you got it now
no worries, set me on the right path for sure. that memory card manager did the trick
Hopefully someone else can help with the cheats, I haven't yet tried anything cheat related for PSX
yeah its my first time also
I used some cheats a month or two ago in the PSX core, in general they work the same but certain ones are meant to have the file edited to put one of the values in
it seems that for all cores, the menu system isn't sophisticated enough to enter a value for fill-in-the-blank codes. either that or multiple choice options.
Triangles in all the right places... Mmm...
Tried Gran Turismo for a bit with the PS1 core in Dualshock mode for player 1 with a DS4 controller, and the vibration seems really heavy-handed and constant, like you're always driving off-road
Cybertruck ironically better in PS1 jaggy graphics?
Somebody get on that mod please
in GT2 the vibrations are softer 🙂
in GT1 after a race, hands are shaking 😄
may I ask a question ? what kind of exe files can I load in the psx core ?
its kind of insane. gonna try an original dualshock 1 with SNAC to compare next
I thought of the same thing , but today I won't make it
no worries! i'm playing a lot of gran turismo lately to prepare for a video so i'll get it compared soon here
tracking some trends for when the replays mess up also
somehow they seem to always play correct on nighttime stages (clubman)
The longer the route, the greater the chance of issue
I use cpu x2 and zero problems 🙂
interesting. i'll try that next. just the core by itself with no hacks turned on in the OSD?
Yes , with default settings
i didnt see this trend. even longer night courses like clubman 11 play full replays perfectly
I saw issues in the replays there as well
most common tracks it happens on pretty much always are high speed ring and grand valley east
i'll take my CR-X on trial mountain next to try again, but i think that one plays correctly for me
(since its a longer one)
In general I spent several hours testing this , the PAL version works most stable in replays
Setting the turbo to high also eliminates this problem, but I am lazy and use cpu x2 😆
Maybe someday this problem can be eliminated, it's good that there are easy ways around it for now
trial mountain replay messed up pretty much immediately
played deep forest after that and replay went through flawlessly
just so confusing
I've run into an issue with Brave Fencer Musashi where, when I use gunshot, he doesn't stop shooting no matter what I press. Is that a bug with the core or is it user error lol?
I mean this with completely respect but it is likely user error. Not that bugs aren’t possible but that’s a high profile game and would’ve been found by now.
Maybe rapid fire is on?
Unless there's a setting I'm unaware of then no. I'm using a blisster with an original dual shock. I just tried again and, after I press O, no inputs are read until I run out of BP (bullets).
Wow so odd
I also tried with an N64 controller and still got the same issue. And I don't have similar issues with any other game I've tried.
Gunshot one of the first powers you get, right?
Yeah. It's right at the beginning.
Ok just tried it. Using a wireless N64 controller and didn’t run into that issue
classic case of a haunted controller
I tried a different build of the core and still no luck. I'm wondering if there's an issue with the game file, itself. Gonna try to replace it and see if that fixes the issue.
Hope that works!
Thank you! And thanks for helping me troubleshoot. ...I went to try it on original hardware only to find that my PSX stopped working. lol maybe the universe just doesn't want me to play this game no matter what.
Oh man that sucks, I’m sorry to hear! On the plus side, you have this new core to play your games.
That actually fixed the problem!
Great!
Yeah - Perfect timing for the PSX to fail, since I just got my Mister lol
Are you using core specifically for LLAPI (Blisster ) ?
I am. Thanks for the link!
the latest psx core for LLAPI is quite old 🙂
20221011
latest official psx core is 20230503
This kind of lag can happen with unofficial cores
Yes, I'm far from using non-official add-ons or core
I'll give it a try. Might still be worth it on a case by case basis.
Does the new release correct gran turismo replay?
OK
@ivory verge I tried with real dualshock via SNAC and the rumble is completely different than with a DS4. No constant rumble, only for impacts with other cars, environment and simulated terrain transfers to like offroad/curbs
it feels great with snac, and seemingly broken with a standard DS4 when vibration is turned on in the menu
@tropic stratus possible this is a recent occurrence with how rumble support has changed in main since N64 rumble has been introduced? I havent used rumble in the ps1 core much so it could be just the same its been for a while. I'm using the latest mister unstable from 10/1
the rumble when using DS4 via usb feels like it is constantly using the max-force "impact" effect thats observed when playing with a dualshock 1 via SNAC
nothing changed in main regarding rumble
could be that the game uses a base rumble value that makes the ds4 trigger already, but would not trigger the old ds1?
best would be to compile a test version that prints out rumble values instead of fps
but snac gets the same values by the game as USB controllers, so i'm not sure what the reason is
i've noticed something like this
there seems to be some subtlety missing from the usb rumble that is present on snac
thanks for checking, there is definitely something wrong
its hard to describe exactly
remember there's a whole driver layer between 'psx rumble' -> 'your usb controller'
for me the strangest thing is , when vibration for psx core appeared we all tested it , I don't recall anyone reporting such a problem then , and a lot of people tested Gran Turismo
but memory plays tricks
yep, for sure someone would have reported this before, it feels very off. thats why i suspected it may be a recent change
especially with a controller as popular/common as DS4
This is not a recent thing. I remember experiencing this when rumble had just been implemented.
I was comparing it to my PSOne at the time.
My hands were numb at the end of a single race.
#psx-chat message
the psx/ps2 controllers also use higher voltages
I think the rumble motors are 7.6V? maybe 9?
the usb ones are probably 3-4V?
you're not going to replicate the same feel
i can try on PSX
True, you won't be able to match the strength and probably the little details. But something is way off in GT1.
I have a Retrocastle SNAX which provides the correct dual shock voltage, so that would also be good for some extra testing.
getting the same feel exactly isn't really the issue or expected given the differences in modern rumble in controllers vs Dualshock 1. The main issue is that it rumbles uncontrollably throughout entire races when the stock controller would not be rumbling at all. rumble is pretty subtle in the game and there is no constant effect, as is present with DS4 vis USB
rumble increases as you hold down the gas button which isnt the original behavior, and even continues to rumble to a lesser degree when the car is completely stopped on flat road surfaces
there is no actual effect as seen in the game with original controller, no impact rumble differences or terrain/curb indication rumbles
i used misteraddons snax which also has the correct voltages. night and day difference
I guess the other question is how fast can a psx game actually update the rumble config? is it once per frame or can(and/or does) it happen multiple times a frame?
is it all games or just Turismo? Padtest lets you test the 2 motors independently.
Feel like this problem might have came up before.
like maybe turismo doesn't set the motor to 0 or something. and whatever value they rest at doesn't make the DS1 rumble but does make the usb controller rumble trhough whatever driver.
which is why I was wondering if it's game specific
its a shame the psx padtest can only test rumble on/off
Whats another good one to test for rumble? I recall it working perfectly fine when I recorded my chrono cross videos earlier this year
did you try the padtest rom? you press R3 or L3 to activate each motor.
what turismo might be doing is it might always have some rumble in game like engine rumble or whatever and the usb driver is messing things up like detecting any value as ok now rumble full power.
the padtest is only fully on/off so it's not that helpful here. really need a padtest that lets you ramp the rumble values up and down
i dont notice any engine rumble with dualshock 1 connected with voltage-correct SNAX, completely still when driving on roads or fully stopped
it doesn't mean the rumble value is absolute zero though, it could be something that's low enough to not cause any noticable rumble on a real controller, but due to the various differences causes rumble on usb through mister
almost like we have the wrong rumble "deadzone" or something
good point
if it is some weird rumble deadzone situation, its far enough out of whack that it completely nullifies the game's original/intended effects completely. you dont feel them at all
I had to look up how rumble worked again. https://psx-spx.consoledev.net/controllersandmemorycards/#controllers-rumble-configuration
no answers for you though, it does mention a couple games that use uncommon sequences. maybe try those.
ah okay i still have FFVIII on my sd card, will try that tomorrow. i remember rumble working correctly in that last i tried also
also maybe try duckstation
duckstation applies both a configurable bias, and a curve adjustment to the rumble values
const double x = static_cast<double>(std::min<u32>(state + static_cast<u32>(m_rumble_bias), 255));
const double strength = 0.006474549734772402 * std::pow(x, 3.0) - 1.258165252213538 * std::pow(x, 2.0) +
156.82454281087692 * x + 3.637978807091713e-11;
the best part is it has a comment 'curve from <url>'
and the url is just some controller input plugin for multiple emulators
that just...uses that math with no explanation
so yeah, it's not just using the straight rumble values. let me try that, actually
might be worth seeing what value turismo gives.
looks like there is some deadzone code in the core https://github.com/MiSTer-devel/PSX_MiSTer/blob/main/rtl/joypad_pad.vhd#L239
-- strong motor: "The Left/Large motor starts spinning at circa min=50h..60h, and, once when started keeps spinning downto circa min=38h"
does that path mess with SNAC values too?
no only usb.
also looking at that code, 'no rumble under 38h' isn't quite right, you have to delay when it ramp up from zero to 50h
so rereading what he said "there is no actual effect as seen in the game with original controller, no impact rumble differences or terrain/curb indication rumbles"
that made me think the values are wrong or something likes alwys FF. but snac worked fine.
archimedes was the original inventor of controller rumble
Is there a setting for the psx core that maps the dpad to the stick like in the n64 core? Would be usefull if a game doesn't support a dualshock controller but you want to control it with stick1 anyway.
if you set the controller to digital, then that just happens
sort of an easter egg feature
Thanks a lot!
Trying to run SOTN randomizer, but even with correctly named cue and bin it wont start, any1 got it working?
Several people here finished game with the randomizer, so it works for sure
well...I give up...I think its the randomizer or rom dump that breaks for me somehow
Don't give up so easily
make sure you are using this version of the game, most likely "Castlevania - Symphony of the Night (USA)" Redump verified
are you using the redump verified image?
next, where is the randomizer and how are you doing it?
gotta figure out the best way to do it. I see one on github and one on some website that does it for you
actually I see two githubs
https://sotn.io/ and Myrient Redump bin
bin/cue works in duckstation
well if the game works it doesn't mean it is redump verified
so it can cause patching issues if its not
but if you got it from a trustworthy redump labeled set, its likely fine
the Castlevania - Symphony of the Night (USA).zip file should have a CRC32 of 07C73E16
you could also try that webpage outputting as ppf and applying the patch yourself manually
I never tried SOTN randomizer so I am just giving recommendations here. I can try it later if you want and test it on my MiSTer
Redump uses Myrient to host their files.
oh, I'm not familiar with that
I just scan my sets with the dat files
but good to know ill check it out
Hello. I am running the Mister with dual ram. are there any settings on the PSX core that will take advantage of the dual sticks?
What is SPU RAM select and why would it be greyed out?
Do you have a dualsdram core?
The latest dualsdram core is from march
Spu ram for dualsdram- more accurate audio , but the human ear will not hear the difference
im not sure. If Update all doesnt grab it, probably not. Can I grab it from Github?
There is no dualsdram version in official distribution
It's only test core
Here is the latest #test-builds message
Thank you. Is it the same as the current PSX build or is it missing stuff?
ok Thank you!
Got it working, my bin file was the culprit..thx
Remembering everything this core can do, got to listen to some PCEngine Y's soundtrack this morning. Love it! Visualisers and everything, fully transported back in time
I think the same problem that is present in RE2 is also present in RE1
That PS1 CD playing screen reminded me of this song that came on my demo disc when I got my PS1 - https://youtu.be/37s3XC3gaCw

Assis...
i see the zombies are still there, that's disappointing 😦
no, honestly, can you mark it? i can see a banding in the wall next the stairs, but it's not square shaped?
It's very visible here
Yes 🙂
so to fix this: one would need to capture all mdec commands executed for decoding this area in a emulator then write a testrom that will send these to the mdec and execute it on a real psx and emulator, than compare pixel by pixel
this will not tell instantly why it fails, but at least it would be a way to play around with different roundings to see which direction it needs
i would assume it takes about 2 weeks to write such a test?
not sure how much data it will be, if it's fits in a exe or if it has to be read via CD commands
we have a github entry for it?
ok, will add this there. i won't have time soon, but this would be a nice project. the mdec in the core works well and stable in most instances so research on it is not that bad
i have absolutely no expectation of fixing this bug , it is not a nuisance and it is not in all places
I wasn't looking for it specifically , I just noticed it today while comparing the psx version with the saturn
I finished this game many times on core , but the purpose was to test stability, I did not even pay attention to it
it's a small thing
it could influence other games also. Especially in 16bit color mode it makes sense to fix it, as 1 bit difference with only 32 intensities per channel is recognizeable. Probably not so much in movement, that's why noone has seen it in FMVs yet
also it would be nice to have a test to prove the mdec is really hardware accurate 🙂
That game puts a mask on top of the background. Say the zombie was around the corner, you would see him on top of the BG if they didn't have that mask. Almost sure that's what you see here since you marked spots that have corners.
see if anything looks funny in this room. that's where the masks are
nope looks perfectly fine
Why do I have this visual glitch?
480p hack?
it be cool if there was a way to make it 480p for us Multiformat crt lovers 😏
That did it, am I supposed to leave it off?
I think it's best for certain games. Not most games though. Like Tekken 3 is a good use case I believe
I leave it off most of the time
I'm sure others can provide a more extensive list of good use cases for it too.
only use it for games where it's really needed and working. It's a hack and will not work everywhere
makes sense
question, say hypothetically someone were going to try and grab a set of PAL or NTSC psx games
is there a better version to get
is it the case that it's better to use NTSC if you're using a 60hz hdtv and pal if you're connecting it to a european crt
and is it the case that pal provides a higher resolution but lower framerate on psx?
NTSC is nearly always just better, because of the higher hz
pal games only rarely even use the higher resolution (often just have borders)
most european crts will handle 60hz anyway
I don’t even think most games were correctly ported to PAL. They just ran slower and letterboxed (I think Psygnosis being European was the exception)
I don't know if it's the same issue but I've brought up the mdec inaccuracy to you awhile ago
#1046940919607345272 message
You made this really cool comparison of real hw vs mister vs duckstation
I'd love love to see pixel accurate mdec 😀
ah yes, we already have test that could be worked on 🙂
I played a little yesterday on psx and core , I can't perfectly take the same picture , but the difference is there
this is just for comparison purposes
You know what's funny, I know a really big RE fan and he pointed out this kind of issue a long time ago and people here said it was because of shadowmasks or something like that

That's right, I remember this and the topic came back with RE2 and this error, we analyzed it again and clearly it is a bug
I also looked for this error in other places
In RE3 I did not notice it , but I found it in many areas in RE1
Probably earlier someone checked it on emulator not on real psx , in duckstation this also occurs
I think that was me
I double checked in mednafen as well where it doesnt occur but was told mdec is doing something wrong there as well but different
yeah i think we were surprised because duckstation seems to have the same bug
that was kind of used as reference a lot
I'm surprised that we all didn't notice this earlier 🙂
mednafen also doesn't reproduce the testrom correctly, yes. It rounds different to duckstation/psx core, but also wrong
keep in mind that the mdec has at least 5 places where the bidwidth/rounding is not known
Wipeout 3: Special Edition is kinda considered the best of the PSX wipeout games, and it's a PAL exclusive version.
yeah I mean in examples where pal and ntsc both exist
apart from a few edge cases, as a general rule if I need space shall I keep the US versions?
even though I'm from Europe
yeah personally I would always default to NTSC if I had both options because most games didn't take advantage of the extra resolution from what I've seen, and the framerate is higher
unless you game primarily on a PAL-only CRT or something
yeah that's the thing.. I really don't know
I am about to get my mister, gets delivered in 2 days
and as of right now the only crts I have are old af 10 inch crts at my wife's cabin
ancient ones
and it's possible they are pal only. but even if they are I need to free up this space really, maybe I could just keep pal games for some multiplayer classics that are bound for the reload
Sounds like you need more CRTs in your life, honestly.
yeah I probably do, the problem is I have an 80 inch 120hz oled
I have ruined myself
maybe if I go to a different room I can enjoy a little shrek crt or something but I can't put a small screen next to a behemoth screen and not feel like it's a waste
Could always use it on the OLED directly, I think there are modelines to do up to 1440p in 4:3? or the 240p 120hz hack
even my desktop I have a 28" 165hz 1440p and a 43" LED as my second monitor
yeah I intend to just run on the oled tbh
I am not that much of a latency worrier
but yeah I will also be playing it in my wife's cabin because it's comfy af
on those little crts
for me crt is more of a vibe, I can't see myself getting a PVM and pretending I would prefer that to just a giant room size screen but I like it as a little nostalgia machine to go back in time for a bit
I have a PVM and it’s great for flexing on people but I’m with you. I just use my old CRT instead.
don't you mean oled
i know your game
Wipeout is another one by UK developers Psygnosis. that always confuses me on which would be the more 'correct' version between NTSC and PAL 🤔
PAL stands for “Poor Analog Lideo”. The British spell video with an L incase you didn’t know.
"Pathetic Analog Lines"
(Wish I could say I didn’t have to deal with PAL and SECAM as a kid but I did…)
"What is a PAL?! A miserable pile of refresh."
"The same could be said of all 50hz formats.."
PAL is only desirable with C64... because that's what the vast majority of demos require.
It's a necessary evil.
PAL don’t bother me
like right now? Yeah, you’re funny. Thanks for the laughs, friend.
Colin McRae Rally 2.0 PAL is better than NTSC
And Amiga
I meant on your vacation.
Brazil is an odd one. 60 Hz PAL.
Same res as NTSC though.
I play only PAL versions on PSX and have no problem with it
NTSC only games that have not been released in Europe
hm. congrats. you earn...

There is also Crash Bandicoot 1 where a YT Video exists where the PAL Version has better ColoUrs 🙂

Not Sure if this is 100% true though
A comparison between the PAL Version of Crash Bandicoot (SCES-00344) and the NTSC Version (SCUS-94900).
The recorded footage is completely unaltered (no cropping, no color corrections).
More information about PAL and NTSC video formats: http://www.absolute-playstation.com/api_faqs/faq10.htm
They managed to port it very very well though.
yeah , crash in PAL runs at25fps
but Crash movement speed has been increased
they handled it well
Everything good? Anything I can do for anyone?
yeahhhhh
finally the last message every time i check the channel doesn't have crash inside and my blood pressure stays low 🙂
Robby 🍻
all good with PSX core 🙂
no emeregency situations hehe
Still the best way on the planet to play PSX games
psx github is more active recently, but you handled some of them already and checked, thank you!
at your service 🙂
I wasn't planning to, but now I'll get a separate controller just for the psx core. It's just a bluetooth mod of the original digital pad but still really nostalgic.
Is it the 8BitDo one? I have it and it’s great!
Yeah that one. Also contacted them to make a kit with hall sticks for the dualshock 1+2. Feels like I tell them a lot of things these days. 😄
how new is the psx kit?
ancient, i nearly bought one like 4 years ago
i just was wondering if there was going to be any pattern with latency and the modkits
like maybe the same person programming them
and hopefully doing a good job
Two questions. 1. Is symphony of the night supposed to be letterboxed? I'm playing on a CRT and it is but I wasn't sure if this was a weird core beta thing, a settings problem, or if it's always been like this (never played it on a real PlayStation) and 2. What setting stops the resolution from popping up anytime it changes in the top left corner?
are you playing the PAL version? we always seemed to get squished games in the UK.
nope NTSC
it looks like there is a border on the longplay? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5HnhPNS0rqM

Unlike previous Castlevania games, this one combines Metroi...
Yeah i just noticed its not in the title screen just the game which makes me think that it is normal? Like maybe they were going for a cinematic look?
it is normal, the core is far from beta, and mister ini!
video_info - Number of seconds that it will display the video info in the top left corner of the screen whenever the resolution or frequency has changed.
; set to 1-10 (seconds) to display video info on startup/change
video_info=0
Thanks! I never cared about it before until I started playing ps2 and realize how often the games change resolutions sometimes lol
Anyone else noticed something wrong with the way True Pinball displays?
I'm playing on a crt
The dotmatrix on the top looks sharp
But the playfield becomes blurry.
Is there any compatibility list yet ?
everything but matt hoffman bmx
yeah that one
hi there - I'm trying to use a GunCon 2 with the PSX core without luck. is there a general set of instructions to use it? thanks 🙂
Making sure that you've got it connected correctly? Yellow plug getting sync from somewhere, yes?
First thing after you're sure it's all hooked up correctly is to make sure you've assigned the controller. You can do that in the main mister menu, then you can adjust the buttons specifically in the psx core if need be.
You then need to calibrate it by opening the mister menu and pressing f10 on a keyboard. Best to do this on a bright background whilst in the core itself, like the white screen of the 240p test suite. Be careful because fixed hblank and vblank can cause issues, so turn those off if possible.
You calibrate it by shooting at the very edges of the screen. It should flash up which edge it wants you to shoot. Be very mindful of the position, if you go too far out it won't work. Basically try to get the value to the most extreme you can before it zeroes out.
Once you've done that, make sure the controller is set to guncon or justifier (depending on the game) and have fun. Be aware that the guncon 2 can have issues with darker games/scenes because it isn't clued in to the on screen flash like a guncon through snac is. An example where this is a problem is the end of area 2 of the second stage of time crisis. It's dark and shots simply won't register, unlike a guncon hooked up via snac which works as it should
Thank you for the thorough response - it works! I noticed that about the dark stages. As convenient as the GunCon 2 is, perhaps its worth having a GunCon 1 over SNAC for that reason.
Hey folks
There's a 1TB microsd selling for $70 on amazon, lexar
Would that work well with mister psx?
Anyone tried that brand for the switch or mister cd cores?
Typo
lexar is a dece brand, it'll probably work fine
But I need more than probably, I was hoping for factual experience
I only have experience with the pny 1tb, worked fine in my switch for a couple of years. But definitely look up reviews for 1tb cards, there are more fake ones then genuine.
idk about now and day but i know when i was looking for one recently the steamdeck said lexar cards were slightly thicker and caused issues with the sd slot, not sure how it would be with the mister if it was still the case
Seeing talk of them gun games. That makes me ponder the question, is there any way at all to actually play lightgun games on a MiSTer using an OLED TV? I assume not, but I have no idea if any new ways of getting them to work has come around in recent years since I gave up on them ages ago.
maybe the solution is Sinden or gun4ir ?
there have been some topics here, but I have never looked into them
I tried the wii remote 🙂
Yeah, I just read a review of the Sinden, but it said that it's not compatible with MiSTer currently.
It would be a dream come true if there was a simple lightgun solution for MiSTer on modern TVs. I just don't see myself ever owning a CRT again. It's been too long, and I don't have the space.
Something is wrong with the music here. WARNING: LOUD
is this a rom issue or a core issue
I assume it's confirmed not on original hardware?
this happens every time?
happens every time I enter a battle in this specific area
I never heard that playing on og hardware. Thats horrifying!
please do savestate we will compare
default options ? (no turbo, cd speed hack etc. )
no cheats ?
I'm using this specific rom hack though https://www.romhacking.net/forum/index.php?topic=19709
maybe it has something to do with it
[PSX] Final Fantasy VII - Retranslation Project (R06g)
though it's confirmed to work on real hardware
it's hard for me to comment on the hack , there can always be a bug , I know that such a thing has never happened yet in the normal version of the game
have you reported this anywhere before? i have deja vu
no I didn't
hm
I'll check with the original rom if this happens there too
can you load the same save on a plain rom ?
yeah please do
i have a feeling this is only in that romhack
thankfully the saves are compatible lol
okay, I loaded the save with an original rom and the issue didn't occur
so it must be a rom issue
though I wonder if this specific behaviour happens on real hardware as well
I went through the list of bugs that were reported for this patch and it is a huge modification , many things can happen
yeah that's true
You can get sinden working with mister, but it's a pain in the ass and doesn't work very well.
Tl;dr you use the guncon conversion. You'll need an RPi, an arduino micro for each gun you want to use and somrthingto draw a border. There's a pre configured image for the Pi and sketches for the arduinos. You then plug the guns into the Pi, wire up the arduinos to the correct GPIO pins on the Pi and then plug the arduinos into the mister. Then output the mister to something that can draw a border or use white leds around the border of your screen and it'll work like a guncon 2 except it doesn't feel great
Gun4IR works alot better and if you can find the parts to make one yourself, isn't too expensive (at least that was the case when I built it pre pandemic, not sure if the prices have gone nuts since then)
I played through this same hack like a year or so ago and didn't have this issue 🤔
I did get some crashes in the late game materia caves though
But since the saves are compatible I just switched to the unpatched version to get those
I wonder if fast boot could affect it?
Guncon3 is the simple/cheap solution for mister and modern TVs. It’s not perfect, it’s like Wii mote tech, but it works well enough and is plug and play.
I've had a Sinden since the first batch, and I've always found it to be a frustrating experience. Even when using a pre-made RPi image.
I am of the opinion that the guncon3 is horrendous and should be avoided
There's only 2 acceptable solutions from my point of view
Either get a crt
Or spend ridiculous amounts of money on the gun4air which I think works on the mister. The sinden does not but you could go that route + real consoles
For the price and ease of use I think it’s a fine option.
Do Justifier games work with the Guncon 3 on MiSTer?
yeah you just adjust the controller options on the osd
what's the name of the psx core? scph100?
PSX
Done with the in-game dialogues. That wraps up all major text insertions 🎉
There's still some work to do on save menus. After that, all that's gonna be left is graphics (I'm looking forward to having the UI transla…

Looking forward to this translation patch being released
Hey all. Perhaps a strange question, is there an option of controller profiles? I know it’s more of an emulation thing, but on ace combat 2 for example, I’d like to use r2 for thrust, not r1, but the game doesn’t allow for this. So thought I could have a separate profile for said game(s)
I think per game controller bindings are something that's lacking from mister.
Agree, when using SNAC I can understand it, but any other controller, a per game option would be excellent. Perhaps it’s very hard to implement, I’m sure there’s a technical reason
this is the retranslation right
think only that version has the issue. i ran into that too ages ago
ah ye i didnt read further on. i only ran into the problem on this version
i just considered it vincents gift to my ears
wonder if analog button support for NeGcon might get looked at again once there is support in main for the saturn 3d control pad
would be real nice to have I and II mapped to analog triggers on a modern pad
yeah i hope so that'd be really cool
the current system is a very solid workaround, and the 100%-on maps on the face buttons is a fabulous bonus and ideal for some games on its own, but with analog button support you could map those games to a modern control style with full analog support, which would be ideal for most, i think
Does anybody know a good source for psx button membranes? The non-dualshock kind.
actually no, and I have looked
the only tip I can offer is about restoring your old membrains
I'll put it in #controllers
got one of those cheap PSX SNAC adapters off amazon and it’s not doing anything with SNAC enabled in the core 😵💫 (the analog indicator on my dualshock 2 does light up) anything else i could troubleshoot before i return it and get the one from ultimatemister instead?
Analog indicator on the controller means the core was able to communicate with it
it lights up even on the MiSTer home screen with no core loaded, is that a red flag maybe?
i have that controller driver for the N64 NSO pad installed + i’m on the latest unstable main, could that be a factor?
Maybe? Try testing on latest stable for both.
it's worth checking the settings on the i/o board to see if there is a jumper on 3.3 or 5v
I had this problem once, it turned out the cable is not ok
but I'm not a snac expert
Now that’s weird 🤔
Is the controller confirmed working elsewhere?
it’s a dualshock 2 and it works on my PS2 yeah
i checked my IO board and it seems to be a revision without the 3.3/5v jumper
i have not tested any other SNAC hardware on my MiSTer
Maybe @still palm knows what it could be
https://www.amazon.de/dp/B0BHVRQGTS?psc=1 this is the adapter i got, to clarify. has no reviews and seller reviews are pretty mediocre, so it could simply be a faulty unit
Verwendung: Nehmen Sie das Produkt heraus und verwenden Sie es Spezifikation: Elementtyp: Für SNAC Playstation PSX Converter Material: PCBA Eigenschaften: 1. i booted up ape escape and it said there was no controller plugged in, even with the analog indicator lit up
did you check without cable ?
connect snac directly , rule out a faulty usb 3.0 cable 🙂
check if the p7 header of io board is populated also. red light just means it's being powered and it's in analog mode. Some games won't work in this mode but Ape should have.
i did, same result!
I have same adapter mine works great
are you on stable or unstable main?
It does not matter, there were no changes
Stable
if that’s the case then the main suspect would have to be my IO board, gonna have to do some more digging when i get home
I have the same snac project and it works fine, I am 99% of the time on unstable
at this point i’m 99% sure i have one of those older 6.0 IO boards, all the documentation i’m seeing for similar PSX SNAC adapters says they require 6.1 (with the p7 header populated like blue mentioned.) glad the adapter wasn’t the issue seemingly but now i gotta pony up another 40 bucks 😵💫
psx controller can work on a 6.0 io board. the selectable 7th io on 6.1 is only used for light guns on psx. The p7 header is here for reference
easiest thing to try would be a different controller but you should check if there's pins in p7, nothing will work without those.
thank you 🙏 will check in a sec
..
this is what mine looks like, i know nothing about soldering to boards but i’m guessing i’m SOL?
yeah should look like this, figured that's what the problem was. If you know someone who solders or a place locally they could probably do it. without those pins snac or mt32pi won't work sorry.
that's unfortunate, thanks for the help though, now i know what to look into 🙏
I'm having so much fun playing Point Blank with my newly aquired guncon 3. I'm astonished by how well that thing works. Even turning off the on-screen crosshairs, I'm still landing all my hits unless I clearly missed the mark.
That’s awesome! Being able to play these lightgun games again rather easily is such a wonderful treasure.
Seriously! I'm hating myself for not buying one sooner!
Its great. Looking forward to using it for Virtua Cop 1 and 2
And even that janky HotD port
Yeah, guncon support can't arrive soon enough for Saturn.
yeah, by that point I think it should be feature complete
I received my GunCon2 a few weeks ago but I still don't have my cable to connect my MiSTer to the CRT 😭
continuing my unholy experiments. tomb raider on ps1 controlled with a n64 pad.
if you config it just right, and put all the texture filter on it looks like a lost n64 port
do you know about using RCA splitters and an RCA extension cable to accomplish it?
I haven't put much thought into making it work with the MiSTer actually hehe. I was more focused on getting the MiSTer working with my CRT first
I'll eventually be using svideo
I'll have to ask again at that time though. I might be several more months at that
I believe even if you're using S-video, you can use the composite plug on the YC adapter
if not, you can get one of porkchops little adapters
.3
does that mean the sync signal is sent on the composite line?
got what i believe to be the right header pins and inserted them loosely to test (i’ve read reports of people doing this before soldering,) but SNAC is still not working. would soldering them on make a difference?
https://www.amazon.de/gp/aw/d/B078KF458R?ref=ppx_pt2_mob_b_prod_image the pins in question
push fit is no guarantee of a electrical connection
you also dont have them fitted correctly
The pins on mine have no black suround
what’s the correct way to do it?
i’ve seen people do it with the black plastic still on
well it will probbaly work
did yopu check pin 9 ?
its over my the big black connector
that one is important too
thanks for the tip, will check in a sec
make sure those pins can reach into the socket
you may need to put them with the black plastic facing the bottom of the board
is pin 9
Ali express boards are so poorly made
pin 9 was missing as well, inserted one (plastic on top) and still no dice
i did push the pins down far enough to touch the DE10
if you insert the pins into the de10 with it off
and then place the IO board on top do they reach
make sure its OFF !!!!
need to step out in a sec but will test this further when i got home, until you said this i didn't fully understand how the pins connect to the DE10
might have to remove the plastic after all, thanks for the help so far!
np
We should really do PSAs to encourage people to only purchase from reputable vendors.
Its such a shame as well, the cost of those pins is negligible, so why the hell the Chinese knock them out with them missing is beyond me
What’s also a shame is that we bear the brunt of their shoddy quality through free tech support.
the problem is the board semi works until someone wants snac or Mt32 Pi and then finds it broken
You get what you pay for.
...of which Robby absolutely does not receive a kick-back from. 😏
"have you asked your vendor?"
hey guys, it's ya boi Jælius! and this video was bought to you by wish.com your 1-stop shop for your MiSTer needs.
we've got all the manual welding you can shake a stick at
It's actually a really good point and one I try to be cognescente of. For example I'm friends with Porkchop from MisterAddons so everytime I recommend him I need to be aware of that bias and call it out so people are aware and can make their own decisions.
Robby's Trip to Mr AddOns World in Florida was purely coincidental 🙂
I completely understand that position, and that is admirable. However, all things being equal (reputation/quality-wise), if someone is US-based, I would have no qualms whatsoever in recommending MiSTer Addons as the 'best' option for that person. If someone resides outside of the US, I would almost certainly recommend someone else.
we are lucky in that a lot of sellers in our community are also designing hardware and deeply care abot doing it right
and i think porkchop has earned a recommendation based on community contributions alone
He's okay... 😉
also he has some sort of brady bunch situation happening and those kids gotta eat
well what else is there to do in Idaho
fully removed the plastic and then started with the pins in the DE10 sockets and they come out the other end fine — but my SNAC adapter still won’t work 😵💫
does the controller itself work?
i suppose i could go ahead and see if soldering them on will do the trick but at this rate there’s so much room for error i might as well get a new IO board
it does, tested it on my PS2
and the analog indicator lights up, so it is receiving power
@lilac crystal I assume you have set Snac in the core ?
ie set the controller to snac port
i have, yeah
blah, you sound determined too (which id say is a great opportunity to get a cheap soldering iron and try your hand at soldering those headers on.
its honestly not as complicated as youre thinking. go to home depot, get a cheapy 15$ soldering gun, some of their solder they have on hand, and some flux, which is also probably at home depot, and watch a couple youtubes on how to solder.
itsa skill you will absolutely use later on down the road (and possibly teach other people)
But if a bump but are you sure a ds2 works with the adapter? It might only work with a dualshock1 being a ps1 core.
i was pretty on board with the idea but the fact the pins didn’t seem to do anything on their own has me really skeptical it’ll work after i solder them in 😵💫 saw at least one thread of one person trying the same method (i.e. only loosely inserting the pins to test) and it worked for them
i’d be very surprised if that were the issue (PS2 accessories tend to work on PS1) but i can’t say i’ve tested it rigorously
dualshock 2 works fine with snac on the core, just like on a real playstation
The greatest option screen for any PS1 game
What game that?
Sentient
This game is certainly specific
It hasn't aged well
But I think it's worth playing
Does setting disease spread to easy make the disease spread less easily?
Of course not! It makes it easier to spread.
Suikoden fans: I didn’t really like the first one (played about 10 hours and got a bit tired of it), is the second one an improvement or just more of the same?
I dunno but people lose their minds over it
That’s what I’ve been hearing but never took the time to play the first (which people say you get memory card references in the second game made me want to play the first one first)
The second game is better but still similar. If you beat the first game you can get the protagonist from the first game in your party in part 2.
Second has a more interesting story.
yeah i prefer the second, more interesting story
its definitely more suikoden though
My recollection of playing the first was not really knowing where to go and there wasn’t a map that I could find except online. Maybe I should line up for the remake instead.
I like Suikoden II, but I don't love it. I was super annoyed about the requirements for the true ending.
Oh, one of those that you’ll likely need a guide to do so. Is the non-true ending really bad?
If you don't get the true ending, you miss out on a lot of content. It's pretty substantial.
So if I’m skipping Sui1, it’d be best to play with a guide? Or go in blind the first time?
playing with a guide takes the pleasure out of discovering games....
I’ve always presumed so I’ve never played with one before. Though is Sui2 a game you can beat, get the poor ending, go back in on your current save, do additional stuff to get the good ending?
the same comment given to doom eternal
Did anybody notice that armored core is really amazing?
Well, now you know.
just kidding , I played in 1998 🙂 loved the game.
I tried playing some time ago and it's not nice anymore haha
I got old
😉
I tried it because of the hype around the new one. It's really fun imo. Maybe I'll get the ps5 game after I beat all the ps1 and ps2 games.
yeah I want to play the new Armored Core
just need to finish the Cyberpunk dlc
which is very good by the way
Never got cyberpunk. That game always gives me a feeling I get a way better experience way cheaper if I just wait 5 years.
Now is a good time to play, I've been waiting a long time for the PS5 version
armored core 6 is awesome
Word AC6 is amazing super fun
That's part of what makes getting the true ending so bad. You get locked out of it, and unless you backed up your save, you have to start the entire game over again to get it. And the game doesn't give you any indication of where/when that crucial moment is. So by the time you realize you didn't meet the requirement for it, it's already too late.
Just enjoy the game and watch the true ending on YouTube. That's what I would do nowadays. I don't have as much time as before.
That is a bit harsh. Maybe they wanted you to replay it. Isn’t it a fairly short RPG, about 30 hours?
Good idea. Though by doing so, I wonder if that YT video’s characters and my play through’s character will differ etc.
Is the DS mode toggle broken? When set to L3+R3+Up/Dn it actually triggers when I do L1+R1+L2+R3+Up/Dn. L3+R3+Up/Dn does nothing when the reverse is set
This is in a switch pro controller
Did you bind L3 and R3 in the core?
I may have lost that when I updated my controller firmware. I'll give it a look.
Let us know!
Interesting. After remapping, they both work, but only when the L3 + R3 option is selected
The four shoulder buttons option does nothing
But I can still use the shortcut
weird…
Anyone else experiencing this?
Weird also looks like R2 is always being pressed. I think I need to test what's going on in an input tester...
Oh weird, getting input ghosting when I press all four trigger buttons
Probably a problem with my adapter
@waxen elk try this test program in the PSX core - #psx-chat message
Trying with pad test. Currently going through all the 8bitdo controller modes
Use Xinput if you can
So only xinout and dinput seem to do anything. And both have issues with multiples of the L1/2 and R1/2 being held at the same time
Man, this is a crappy adapter
I’m sorry, that sucks.
It's all good, I just need to make sure to do a bit of mashing to unstick them when going from analog to digital
Just watched it again with the last released core, no issues
I assume it's a popular game, if more people had a problem with it there would be a lot of reports
Did you check the PAL or NTSC version?
NTSC
especially with it being the initial FMV. If it was deeper in the game, maybe not many play until there, but the build is out for nearly half a year now
PAL(german) also works fine here
yeah, looks perfect here too , no issues
Maybe he’s using those out of specs 4 chips SDRAM modules?
As far as I know psx has no problem with 4c
Saturn has a problem because it uses memory chips in parallel for good badwitch
psx will only use the first mbytes anyway
it does however use relativly high clock and low latency mode
You still working on the psx core @tropic stratus or do you consider a line drawn under it at this point?
not at the moment, i'm busy with n64. afterwards, maybe. i should at least take a look at the few new bugs that popped up in the last months
I’m looking for a guide on how to setup the Wii sensor bar for gun games. Discord search is not good though.
Sync the Wii remote via Bluetooth and just plug the Wii sensor bar into any usb port to power it
Thanks dude. Any settings I need to change in core?
Press F10 in the main menu to calibrate the Wii remote
Also happy to help, please let us know if that works for you
Thanks my dude. You’re the best.
I could never get a wiimote to pair via bluetooth. Any secrets I should know?
Hit the red button on the Wii remote?
Did that on 3 different wiimotes, only 1 of them is with integrated motion plus.
Hmmm, not sure. Should just need to press the red sync button and enter pairing mode on the main menu.
Just tested on my Mister, put Mister in pairing mode (hold middle OSD button for 5 seconds), push and hold red Wiimote button until 4 leds on the front of Wiimote start to blink, and it sync'd. I've never had a Wiimote sync'd with my MiSTer before.
I used the bt pairing script, but should be the same, right?
I think so, I've always used the button. I have every kind of Wiimote here but just grabbed a stock, pre-motion plus one to test
Just tried the buttons, same thing. It's not really an issue as I wasn't really planning on using a wiimote on mister. I just tried it because shig recommended the classic controller for psx games and it's the only "adapter" I have at hand.
Does anyone know if there is any way to fix Area 51 when using a guncon 3? That game's aiming doesn't match where the on-screen cursor is at all, making it unplayable with a guncon 3. Is it a problem with the core itself?
All other PS1 lightgun games work great except for that game.
Other justifier games work fine though. It's only Area 51 that doesn't work correctly.
🤷🏻♂️
Crypt Killer for example works excellent with it.
You don’t get to decide that
Rooobbbyyyyy!
I do wonder if it's worth bring up with Robert. I know he's busy with N64 though, so I don't want to distract him from that.
Especially for such an edge case like this.
I think I had the same problem. You’ll need to patch it
Any idea where I can find the patch? Google isn't being my friend right now.
oh lol there’s no patch
Must’ve been thinking of another one of those games
I doubt that it is a bug in the core , if it works well with justifer ?
Robby trolling me something fierce today!
Sorry!
maybe area 51 doesn't like guncon 3? 🙂
Area 51 was the real troll all along.
It's so odd that it's the only one with that issue though. The other justifier games work great.
@tawny palm and did you do the calibration in the game ?
Irc the American government disabled guncon compatibility for area51 since the internet people tried to storm it a few years back. To prevent training.
Yep. Calibrated in the game. In the core. Made sure justifier is selected in the OSD. It's the only one I've tested that has issues.
#controllers message
here someone tested and it was ok with Justifer , he just didn't know that he could calibrate
so it seems to me that the problem is in the relationship guncon 3 - area 51 😉
Yeah, I have no doubt that it works fine with an actual Justifier on a CRT.
Hi guy, stull me from N64 channel but I think this is the right channel to ask... Is this Memory Card compatible with the core? https://8bitmods.com/memcard-pro-for-playstation-1-smoke-black/
MemCard PRO can store "virtual memory cards" on a standard microSD card of any size. Everything from 1GB to 1TB works! Each gigabyte of storage on your microSD card equals to a whopping 8192 memory cards! Yes you've read that right! A 1GB microSD can store 122,880 blocks of PlayStation 1 game saves!
It should as long as you use a SNAX adapter and a four player adapter.
Metal Gear Solid issue and other games: I have the latest version of PSX core (20230523), the game loads, but after the PSX usual screen, the screen becomes black and the game stops working; it happens also with other games (especially Konami ones); the CD image works on Duckstation and other games like Micromachines V3 work. I think that in the past Metal Gear Solid worked in the past...any idea?
I'm using the image downloaded from CDROMANCE
but it works on the emulator without problems...
are you using the default settings ?
it's very strange because other games like DDR's (by Konami) don't work
yes , I also use cdromance MGS works fine
I don't remember any remarkable changes...except for controllers
and video filters
maybe I will reset to default settings the core; I don't remember how, but I suppose it will be easy
Good that you have confirmed that the CDROMANCE image is working
This summer I played flawlessly (and with pleasure 🙂 ) "Silent Hill"
is it possible to reset each core to default settings? (feature never used 🙂 )?
It’s not an issue with the core fortunately. Make sure your discs are from the collections listed in the pins and delete your PSX core config settings in media/fat/config
cdromance is ok
Probably but I reiterate that to make sure they use verified sources to minimize the potential sources of issues for a quickest path to a solution.
People can use whatever though, of course.
Whats the reasoning behind not treating dualshock digital mode like digital mode regarding the analog sticks? It would ne really handy to be able to use the analog stick in dualshock digital mode as the dpad without having to go to the osd.
I will reset my settings tonight...thank you all!!!
It's probably related to setting the cd speed faster in the core's OSD. I had that problem with some Konami games and once I set it back to the default setting, the games played perfect again.
Pretty sure it was the "CD Fast Seek" option.
@tropic stratus
because it would confuse users which is active
you cannot distinguish if you are in analog or digital mode
you can always switch to the digital pad if you really need it
Alright, fair enough. Although I think the pop up does a rather good job at telling you which mode you're in.
Maybe sometime as an extra toggle.
Took a break from N64 and everyone was so excited to see me.
after the settings reset, MGS works again!!!
thank you all
Playing some echo night with the wife for Halloween
(I didn't know New Zealand did trick or treating too)
Slightly confused… if I use a Dual Analog (PS1) or a Dual Shock (PS2), is it best to leave the menu set to analog unless you know the game requires strictly digital? (Thinking about playing MGS again soon)
I just try analog and if the controls no longer work I switch it back
I wasn't able to get the Dual Analog PS1 controller to work on my SNAX box, while Dual Shock 2s were fine. That was a real shame
what happened when you tried the dual analog?
Been a while since I last tried but I think it was that it didn't even connect. The analog light didn't light up. Should try again later today to make sure
Nvm, it is working now. Must have been some update for it as it definitely wasn't working last time I tried it
cool, good to hear its working! Figured it was just some fluke as all peripherals should work via SNAX as far as I'm aware
Anyone have advice to improve the guncon3's tracking on psx?
It seems to work great on nes, snes and genesis
Just awful on psx, even after calibrating many times
Tested justifier and guncon games
Can you go into more detail on what’s awful about it?
And what games it’s awful on
have you tried turning on both fix hblank and fix vblank?
it helped with my gun4ir
Super slow tracking. Imprecise, it pauses every now and then. Can't shoot anything because it doesn't aim where it should
Project horned owl, time crisis, point blank, area 51, elemental gearbolt, resident evil survivor
Where do I change that?
in the misc or video settings.
but reading your comment about slow tracking makes me fear it might be something else
Like super slow tracking
Yeah that’s not normal
Do you guys have a guncon3 ?
