1000 lemmings

manic valley
#

I feel like you would have to add multiple goals that each player can tackle on their own and collectively work towards the exit

#

Like one player controls the digger lemmings to mine for shit other lemming can use to achieve their goal ?

#

I agree but the gameplay would need a major overhaul .. plus you would have to expand the levels by quite a bit

#

The concept is definitely appealing though ..

OH MY GOD WHY SRE YOU SO SMART

Lemmings Battle Royale where everyone is a Lemming but one player can grant abilities to all the other players.

hot marsh
#

So I'd like to ask, is SNAC supposed to feel like 100% native?

#

I tried to do the following:

#

and the game isn't recognizing it on my original controller at all.

Funnily, Sega Saturn is super loose about this I usually activate it accidentally

#

I usually get it like 90% of the time on my ps1

I have not noticed any problems , works as expected

But the adapters should not contain any logic themselves and are in the end just fancy wires and plugs

It should act just like real psx. game should poll the same time, and controller should respond the same.

I would think if somehow the bytes of the controller were getting messed up, the bytes of the memory card would also.

It's a super secret move

I love it for the unintentional comedy

Tgey redubbed it on saturn

Japanese has an ugly title screen

Pc has earthworm jim

But loses ps1's picture in picture effect

That port was awful

#

Sega really fucked over companies that wanted to make stuff for them

#

The camera angle was odd on saturn while ps1 was like yup real 3d

#

Yeah, game is pretty slow but virtua fighter was kinda slow on jumping too

But toshibden was not a great game

Toshinden 3 was solid

RE: Castlevania Chronicles discussion in N64 channel

Its a side by side comparison of the two, it seems.

Can't speak for others but.. I've done all 6 loops multiple times on a XVI Compact and a PSX, both on an XM29+ and I can't help but notice a pinch of floatiness in the controls on the PSX port. It's not horribly damning to it or anything, but I do notice it.

That being said Im not going to recommend playing Akdra on the X68k core over PSX at this time either. You can turn off the dithering applied in the OSD menu to help some in that department.

bitter lintel

six loops? pleb numbers. robby's ran sotn sixty times today

bronze pulsar

serene nebula
#

bitter lintel
#

gag? is this a game to you?

#

serene nebula
#

The SotN jokes is that people just gravitate to that game with the PSX core. I get it, I did too, but so many people were like “I’m excited to play SotN” that it became a server meme and @bitter lintel ridiculed it. I joined in along with him because (a) he’s right and (b) it’s hilarious. So the joke evolved into doing “testing runs” for SotN because people were also heavily testing the core. And that’s where we’re at.

bronze pulsar
#

Is that the one where they butchered Mick Gordan's music?

serene nebula
#

Mick is a great guy and incredibly talented. It’s an unfortunate situation. He didn’t deliver the music in-time and due to legal requirements they had to release the promised soundtrack included in the CE.

#

Someone else did the mix (who is also very talented but is not Mick) and the situation just fell apart after that unfortunately.

serene nebula

@abstract drift which one was better Driver or Driver 2?

driver

driver2 got way too ambitious for the hardware

also, in either case probably a good one for turbo etc

framerate was atrocious

bronze pulsar
shut escarp
#

Why would you run it through an OSSC if it’s going to a CRT TV

#

I don’t know why you say I thought wrong for suggesting it on a CRT… where it won’t drop signal

abstract drift
#

thats all only true in vsync2 mode

#

if you just enable vsync1 or 0 you'll get completely seamless transitions

#

no more lag than retrotink adds to do the same thing

#

the best you can do though is vsync2, sync 480i for hdmi, and have a tv that wont mind any of that

#

then you get instant transitions as good as ps1digital can do on a real console, and no lag either

bronze pulsar
#

Seems like this might be a problem that carries over to the N64 core as well

Hope that doesnt cause problems with scanline filters

There is nothing humble about your opinion, good sir

tropic stratus
#

the option has no speed, it forces 480i/576i to use 240p/288p timings, so there is not even a switch. If you still get a drop, it's from the changed horizontal resolution which uses a different pixel clock. It works fine here on my LCD display in vsync adjust 2. Tested mainly with chrono cross inventory. But yes, maybe it depends on the display. From what i heard it should also be fine on e.g. the LG OLEDs

#

using vsync adjust 1 however isn't that bad for lag either. You get on average 0.5 frames or 8 ms. But keep in mind that a 30fps game has 33ms anyway, so the difference is not that big. I use vsync adjust 0 only, because i can't tolerate drop outs on savestate load and those will happen on 1/2

the first one, the japan only one, I thought wasn't that bad until like the last floor. Apologies if this is the wrong place to ask, but how do I set up my saves or memory cards so that if I clear Armored Core, I can import my mechs into Project Phantasma and so on? Would this work by simply mounting the AC1 save onto the second virtual slot before booting up Phantasma?

#

Also, is there a way to set up a virtual 15-block card instead of having an individual card for each game (as I think it works by default)?

lilac scaffold
#

You can either place the bin/cue or chd files for the games you want to share a mem card into the same folder, or manually mount the other games card each time, or mount both games mem card manually and use psx bios to copy saves over

twilit wolf

Nice one, thanks very much! The first option would work nicely for the AC series

lilac scaffold

meager parrot

seemed the ranking is entirely based on score so it made sense to use that

manic citrus

it's ranked by grade, and by time taken to reach said grade

so the 'better' GM ranking is the lower time

the grades all have a score threshold, with GM requiring multiple level+score+time thresholds

Sticking with score instead. Less confusing for folks than the time-based formula, and will also be easier to understand and record the scoreboard

The Tetris the Grand Master series is basically Tetris retooled for expert players. Like you level up much quicker, which means the Tetriminos will quickly pick up speed until they eventually drop on a single frame.

You really need to master how the lock delay mechanics work to reach the higher levels.

meager parrot
#

seems that spinning a couple times just before pieces land will buy a little bit of extra time, when things ramp up to ridiculous speeds

tulip moat
# meager parrot seems that spinning a couple times just before pieces land will buy a little bit...

That's because when you rotate on the ground, the Tetrimino is technically not on the ground for a few frames, so the window for the lock delay will be briefly stalled. Though it's not possible to permanently stall with this tactic, as the lock delay frame window is still decaying.

This is a deliberate mechanic across the Tetris series to give the player the option to delay the lock further than normal, like if they want to examine their board for example.

meager parrot
#

I noticed it used heavily in the "professional" demo that plays in this one

seems especially helpful when things get to insta-drop speeds

wanton crown

the 128 mb sd ram chips were ALLIANCE chips labeled 2020 TWN, which differ from most people, so who knows

tropic stratus
#

strange, i also have those 128mbyte modules

#

can't think of any reason why 99,99% of the time it works

#

however, the sdram controller change mentioned in the core was the access mode. The chip is kept on the same active page for several accesses, while before it was reopening the page for each access

#

either the page size is different for the chips you have, but i cannot imagine that being such a "minor" effect, or leaving the page open for longer doesn't work for some reason? no idea

#

wasn't there also some problem with one of jotegos cores and special sdram modules in the past?

serene nebula
#

there’s a problem with the Raizing core and SDRAM modules now 😢

manic citrus
#

then you have sdram that doesn't have the issue

serene nebula
wanton crown
#

anyway, these sd ram issues are intriguing

serene nebula
#

I’ll try giving that a shot. I don’t have a fan though. Waving it away as SDRAM issue in that thread when literally everything else works correctly leads me to believe it’s a core timing problem and not the ram.

#

Which brings me back to @tropic stratus previous post. The issue with Jotego’s core in the past was bad timings on his end and not SDRAM issues.

wanton crown
#

even with 32 mb sd ram I can still get the glitches with street fighter 2x when launching the game quickly AND navigating to it through default menu

serene nebula
#

Too aggressive not allowing for any natural deviance. I think that was the problem?

#

if my MiSTer can run the PSX core without issues for hours on end, it’s not my SDRAM lol.

I know that isn’t a 1:1 comparison but it’s certainly a far more complex core that my build is handling fine.

tropic stratus
#

the sdram design of psx IS on the edge. We drive it with 101mhz at CAS latency 2. Sorgs comment about it: "// 2 for < 100MHz, 3 for >100MHz"

serene nebula
#

it’s a credit to your skill, I rarely if ever hear about SDRAM related issues on the PSX core

tropic stratus
#

but there is not much we can do about. We must compensate for our sdram being 16bit and not 32bit wide like in the real psx

#

so we are about 1% above spec for the sdram, but i doubt it's the reason

#

we could easily try by reducing the overall frequency of the whole core to e.g. 30mhz, so the sdram only runs at 90. if it works then, it's clear

#

but not today, good night 🙂

Sorry for being lazy the last weeks, PSX and PSX2x release are now both up to date

So I guess any updates are finished for now?

tacit fox

Yep. Nothing to see here. Please move to the N64 channel, folks! 🙃

Cant wait for 3x core

Maybe toshinden 3 in 30fps mode can reach 60fps

#

Sorry if this has been addressed already, but can't run TGM conversion anymore. Anyone have a clue?

#

Hm, what does that mean? 😄

#

Do I need to convert to chd?

#

I C ^^

serene nebula
#

@arctic trail chd is so awesome, really helps cut down on storage space with literally no downsides!

One downside

serene nebula

It’s him I’m rocking a 512GB sd card with literally every disc based game I could ever want. elmorise

slow tusk

Can't utilize it on original hardware with Xstation or MODE (yet?)

wanton crown
#

It was good while it lasted. I'm jumping on the n64 train

#

I can take bets that Robert will have a roughtly stable core allowing pokemon stadium with transfer pak support before Nintendo even does on their NSO emulation service squirtle

shut escarp
#

NSO never gonna have support for that lol

wanton crown
#

That would be my bet as well lol

shut escarp
#

i really should get a transfer pak... my old red/blue carts still have my saves

wanton crown
#

I'm not using it anyway, I have real hardware

#

Yea you should it's great

shut escarp
#

gotta get the mario golf chars unlocked

wanton crown
#

Had to clean the contacts with ipa and contact clearner though to get it perfectly working so beware

#

Worst case scenario scraping the contacts could be necessary

wanton crown
#

But yea lots of posts about transfer paks being finicky but it's mostly easily fixable. But that's something emulation fixes and hopefully we'll one day get it on mister

strong hatch
#

the one time I used one I remember it being a bit finnicky for sure. I have a mostly unused one I picked up recently when I bought a boxed copy of the original japanese stadium release, haven't tested it out yet though

#

from my understanding there's no region locking or anything for transfer paks, just the n64 game itself determines whether or not what you're inserting is the correct game

wanton crown
#

yes

#

just beware that pokemon stadium requires a pokemon gameboy cartridge of the same region

#

after cleaning my transfer pak I tried to play for a good half hour wiggling as much as I could the transfer pak from the controller, absolutely zero disconnection

#

weirdly enough when I came back from Japan I brought a pokemon black 2 (nintendo DS) cartridge and it would refuse to boot no matter what I did. Cleaning with IPA and a contact cleaner just made it barely readable, had to very lightly scrap the contacts to get it finally boot 100% of the time

Quick Q - I get a brief screen flicker during the boot sequence. Sony logo with white BG fades, PS logo with black BG appears, and then a real quick black frame flickers in. Is this expected (real hw?), normal behavior of the core, or something funky with my settings? Thanks!

But your "buenos nachos" version is something I have noted and will use in the future

Like it's a shooter style game without gun support

It has guncon support natively

I wonder do you guys default to 2x core or do you use it if you really want a specific game?

tulip moat
rancid anchor
#

anyone happen to know if tales of destiny 2 is working? my version of it all of a sudden stopped booting (it's a dump of my personal copy, single bin so doesn't match redump, downloading a confirmed good dump right now to test)

#

though recently I had the same thing happen with Symphony of the Night, my own dump stopped booting, but got a redump verified version and it works fine

#

(also have made sure fastboot is not enabled, no "unstable" options)

manic citrus
#

are you running unstable main?

rancid anchor
#

no, this is the official release (I also tried the 2x cpu version out of curiosity, same thing there)

manic citrus
#

I don't mean the core, I mean mister main. I suspect the answer is no if you have no idea what I mean

rancid anchor
#

oh, no that's official as well, I haven't run the psx updater in a while (the one that updates to unstable main and grabs the latest psx core)

#

redump verified iso boots fine, strange

#

ran a diff on the files, redump 1st track is identical but shorter (makes sense) and track 2 of redump is just empty, so they're exactly the same

#

cue file also looks correct

#

ah well

manic citrus
#

put the cue file here. there were changes to single bin, and there was one in a very recent update to unstable main. so that's why I'm trying to figure out exactly what you are running

hot marsh
#

So stable mister is still the way to go right? for psx

#

I think people on Saturn are using the unstable

tulip moat
manic citrus
#

unstable is fine. there might be a bug with single bin cue files, which is what I'm trying to determine now

rancid anchor
#

my cue is: FILE "disc1.bin" BINARY TRACK 01 MODE2/2352 INDEX 01 00:00:00 TRACK 02 AUDIO PREGAP 00:02:00 INDEX 01 49:49:25

#

I guess the only real difference there is the pregap (oh wait, looks like there is a pregap in the working, just under a different notation)

#

compared to the working: FILE "Tales of Destiny II (USA) (Disc 1) (Track 1).bin" BINARY TRACK 01 MODE2/2352 INDEX 01 00:00:00 FILE "Tales of Destiny II (USA) (Disc 1) (Track 2).bin" BINARY TRACK 02 AUDIO INDEX 00 00:00:00 INDEX 01 00:02:00

@distant lynx Hey flynn I found old thread in the psx-archive where you were converting avi's to SRT then using "buildcd" to iso them with psy-q. I'm starting down that road myself so I can attract mode some random simpsons episodes on the crt. Hows that chain holding up? I saw there is another SDK out there other than psy-q called psn00bsdk, as I know nothing and am just starting I wanted to ask you about it. Have you tried psn00bsdk and does it eliminate having virtual XP machine building the isos?

distant lynx
#

@pallid ibex I posted all my notes in here somewhere. I did not try psn00bsdk. I was using that XP Virtual machine that is mostly setup from psxdev, I had to make a small change to it for it to compile. Let me see if I can find my notes. My job has taken over my life right now. I will free up sometime in the summer.

wish this game was less compressed on PS1. Wish one day we'll have proper laser disc games emulation

The MegaLD version is 240p rather than 480i too

#

The compression on STR is pretty heavy. Its not as bad as cinepak but its not great.

I'm very curious as to how significant the difference would be

bronze pulsar
wanton crown
#

I've seen people stating that MegaLD was "arcade perfect" but it seems it's not, not even the same button sequences. In PSX version, you can choose which version you actually want to play

#

If arcade version only is 480i that makes it even more desirable but of course it's impossible to come across

bronze pulsar
#

Time Gal and Badlands are my favorite LD games

#

I need to check and see if the MSX Laserdisc port of Badlands is 240p

wanton crown
#

do you happen to have those ? I'm looking for a time gal copy on mega LD. But given that it's still 240p... I feel it's no longer that worth it but I still want it lol

#

I hope one day RF captures of those will allow gameplay on ODEs (I know of the daxter one) / emulators

I've got the PSX snac adapter from https://misterfpga.co.uk/product/mister ... x-adapter/ and I can't get the composite port to work with my official gcun. Plugging in the RCA won't supply any sync at all. I've tried on multiple CRT's and always the same experience. Confirmed gun is working correctly and if using a CRT with component I can tap into the green rca and the gun works perfectly through snac but sync directly from crt. Obviously I can't do that on my preferred SCART Loewe CRT. All other PS1 controllers work through the snac, the composite port just won't deliver sync.

Has anyone else experienced this? Hopefully something simple I'm doing wrong.

Balgreen, just at the edge of Murrayfield. I grew up in Corstorphine . What part of town you in?

#

Ah nice, where in Fife are you? All my family are from the East Neuk and around St Andrews

#

You doing OK? or you just mean Scotland/World in general gone to hell?

#

Oh yeah, prices are insane here

#

We do have a pretty good arcade bar on Lothian Road now btw if you haven't seen it

#

Cramond is nice, used to like walking along the coast there

#

NQ64, is a small chain opening spots in the UK. Nice selection of arcades, done up like it is something from Hackers or an early 90s film. Best part is it is open until 3am every night and has a bar, so good place to go in town after the pubs close

#

Oh yeah, it seems to do really well. It's quite bizarre, as it's always full of people in their teens and early 20s.

#

I think it does well at the weekends as it is next to that Club Tropicana place which has huge queues outside so people give up on that and try out the arcade bar instead. Took us awhile to figure out why an arcade bar was full of groups of attractive young women, but think that must be part of it.

#

It's bizarre, I assumed it would be just a bunch of beardly middle age men in there and some geeky guys but it's full of young people

#

I guess arcades have become trendy again because of Stranger Things etc. They all seem to love playing the old arcades though, so good to see

#

God, is that still around?

#

Last time I was in there was about a decade ago and looked at their collection of overpriced, faded Master System games and wish I hadn't bothered walking all the way down there and now had to walk all the way back up

#

That area is getting gentrified so quickly he if does he'll be quids in when he sells

#

Those would be some cold flats down by the shore as well

#

As trendy as people make Leith out to be, there are still Begbie characters kicking about

#

Oh yeah, and they wanted to make it even taller but were shut down, it will just be an eyesore

Can i use a wiimote-> guitar hero for guitar freaks?

On some level, i kinda wanna buy those guitar hero live controllers

Since it is cheaper than the wii ones

Thankfully still have mine

Setting it up is a mess since wii controls overlap in weird places. Using the beatmania controller behaves wrong

Might end up just emulating or buying the controller

Is there any way for 2 controllers to be used as 1 on this core?

Anyone have any luck with GamePro Action Disc 1 (USA) or GamePro Action Disc 2 (USA)? Neither seem to work on the latest unstable PS1 core.

tropic stratus

could be that some cheat CDs use special debug features of the the original CPU, which are not build into the core

there are no good tests for these things

The GamePro Action Disc is a demo disc that came with GamePro magazine. I dont believe its a cheat disc.

I think it just plays videos and maybe some demos

Definitely not a priority title, but wanted to mention it

Too sensitive for some games
