1000 lemmings
I feel like you would have to add multiple goals that each player can tackle on their own and collectively work towards the exit
Like one player controls the digger lemmings to mine for shit other lemming can use to achieve their goal ?
I agree but the gameplay would need a major overhaul .. plus you would have to expand the levels by quite a bit
The concept is definitely appealing though ..
OH MY GOD WHY SRE YOU SO SMART
Lemmings Battle Royale where everyone is a Lemming but one player can grant abilities to all the other players.
But then is it really a lemmings game at that point or something different?
I’d be that lemming that just explodes to ruin it for everyone
So I'd like to ask, is SNAC supposed to feel like 100% native?
I tried to do the following:
and the game isn't recognizing it on my original controller at all.
Funnily, Sega Saturn is super loose about this I usually activate it accidentally
I usually get it like 90% of the time on my ps1
I have not noticed any problems , works as expected
But the adapters should not contain any logic themselves and are in the end just fancy wires and plugs
I'd assume then them not working at all
It should act just like real psx. game should poll the same time, and controller should respond the same.
I would think if somehow the bytes of the controller were getting messed up, the bytes of the memory card would also.
what game is that? it looks hard to input the 3 diagonals
Battle arena toshinden
It's a super secret move
I discovered a glitch to unlock it
Usually you only learn desperation move if you play normally
Yup lol
I love it for the unintentional comedy
Like your character falling off a cliff while doing a win pose
Yeah Subaru with the big boobed ninja
Tgey redubbed it on saturn
Japanese has an ugly title screen
Pc has earthworm jim
But loses ps1's picture in picture effect
That port was awful
Sega really fucked over companies that wanted to make stuff for them
The camera angle was odd on saturn while ps1 was like yup real 3d
Yeah, game is pretty slow but virtua fighter was kinda slow on jumping too
But toshibden was not a great game
Toshinden 3 was solid
But man I was addicted to 1-3
Played it
Didnt like subaru
Anyway gotta sleep bb
Also sofia's japanese laugh lives rent free in my mind
Never got the hatred Battle Arena Toshinden gets. The first installment, maybe, but you can literally say the same thing for any fighting game series.
I don't know anything about it. It wasn't prominent in my circles back in the day. Bloody Roar on the other hand....
It was a bundle
Tekken 1 sold a good bit more, and is definitely the fighting game I think of for moving PSXs
And with the sequels the market made their choice known lol
Tekken 2, 5.7 mil
Toshinden 2, .6 mil
I had Zero Divide as an import back in the day. It was quite innovative and good.
You can destroy individual parts of your opponent.
I remember getting toshinden at launch, people forget how impressive it seemed at the time, for about 5-6 weeks until Tekken launched. After that I never played it again.
I couldn't get into Tekken but BAT was one of the few PS1 games I was able to play (on bleem!) and enjoyed
Toshinden was great
Although I'm already having a hard time getting back into this game
(its not a good game lol)
i got a big chuckle looking at the reviews for toshinden 1 on the wiki page
lol lmao
Tekken 2 remains the best 3D fighting game for me
its weird to consider tekken 1/2 '3d fighting games' to me
because they're on a strictly 2d plane lol
but they were clearly in the dawn of 3d fighters
We have to classify the fighting games that look like absolute shit as something
To not confuse them with the beautiful 2d fighters
Ok then Tekken 2 is the best 2.5D fighting game for me
i think in tekken2/3 certain moves cause the plane to rotate
i might be thinking of soul blade tho
Soul Blade ♥️
soul blades maybe my favorite example of a game thats actually better on the core than real hardware
turbo irons out the framerate and makes it feel great
not every stage
reminds me I need to try SFEX2+ with turbo and/or 2x core
certain stages and even characters make the framerate drop to like, 27 ish
Toshinden reviews are a great way to experience how fast things changed during those early months/years. Remember being surprised by what was possible each time a new batch of games dropped, and the media was on the same ride as us.
i mean, and the fact that reviews have always been largely paid whether or not it's admitted
and we were just too young to realize that aspect
Going to play some Pop'n Music today!
What’s the best Pop’N game for a beginner to check out first?
I don't know them well enough to say
I'd probably go a couple games deep just because the first entries usually have a very limited songlist
SFVI BETA THIS WEEKEND !
Made my own pop'n music asc besides the case
I tried those at the Midwest Gaming Classic and it was really hard
All those buttons were difficult for my brain to parse
Had a rumble controller request posted just now, moved to debug if anyone saw it. Probably a generic MiSTer request, though thank you PSX core and PadTest to help debug!
Hey guys - does anyone have settings to allow the PSX core to work on a computer monitor? I’ve tried VGA_scaler off and forced_scandoubler on. My guess is Something to do with the PSX having multiple resolutions. My monitor is native 1280x1024
Have you tried enabling vblank?
This game is fun! Works so great on the core. Love having no input delay, I’m good at music games again!
🙌
🙌
So is it just a harder ddr with a finger controller?
Yeah, plays very similarly to Beatmania
So wondering, is the psx 2x core still being updated?
Probably not unless we ask very nicely for parity. But not sure what the 2X core is missing other than mini bug fixes for obscure titles.
I think it’s worth it only for the sheer amount of Pop’n Music titles available for the PS1.
So setup my franken snac and i cant delete data from my pocketstation
Is there like protection on it?
Data is 15 blocks with name dokodemoissho
The other pocketstation formatted well
you tried to delete in bios? was the game running on the pocketstation at the time?
Yeah. Took out battery and it is gone
So problem solved
At least my franken snac works
Although funnily, game is still there
Reports 15 blocks empty
Depends if i like snac enough
Yeah, that’s understandable.
yes. most recent one was a month ago: #1052672192900501534 message
there is currently no change worth to be ported to the 2x core. The duke nukem CD audio fix was reverted, because it showed to be wrong. The only other change is the ressource reduction in the cpu and some fillrate debug option, you won't get anything from that
when there is any important fix, i will port it back
Ah you’re awesome! Thank you so much.
Love the 2X core. It’s the ultimate way to play Ridge Racer Type 4! ❤️
Oh you’re probably right. I use the PSX2X core to play anything that’s not standard. So I play that game in widescreen.
I keep the original core bog standard with filters and the 2X core is everything on.
@upper forge
RE: Castlevania Chronicles discussion in N64 channel
Its a side by side comparison of the two, it seems.
Can't speak for others but.. I've done all 6 loops multiple times on a XVI Compact and a PSX, both on an XM29+ and I can't help but notice a pinch of floatiness in the controls on the PSX port. It's not horribly damning to it or anything, but I do notice it.
That being said Im not going to recommend playing Akdra on the X68k core over PSX at this time either. You can turn off the dithering applied in the OSD menu to help some in that department.
six loops? pleb numbers. robby's ran sotn sixty times today
But there are only are 6 loo-.. oh he's trolling.
I mean I cant respect Robby's efforts, the man is playing Green Hill zone in SOTN. That's just sad man.
@serene nebula what is your personal best speed for the Richter intro stage in PSX SOTN?
Gotta reset til you get 80 hp
I could steamroll it in 37 seconds flat.. but that was a long time ago. Modern speedrunners have probably gotten it down to ridiculous levels
The intro segment has been pretty set in stone for ages
Whats the fastest time?
I forget the exact number I just know it nets 80 Hp start. You basically speed run getting 45 hearts uppercutting into the secret room then kill phase 1 with a holy water crush, kill phase 2 with 2 of them

Oof
Oh yeah, this tech wasnt around when I was doing it
Ugh did he just call him Iga-sama .. gross lol
what's wrong goddamn-kun
lol they have igarashi shield dashing
kun, chan, tan, or dono are acceptable
Dracula-kun
Would Cham-Cham from samurai shodown be Cham-Cham-Chan?
is there a google sheets for working & non-working games?
For the PSX core? I believe almost everything works.
You all may only refer to me as sensei or senpai :.
Everything works. Caveats can be found here: https://github.com/MiSTer-devel/PSX_MiSTer/issues
I prefer the original PS1 simply because of the iconic voice acting.
It's not the same without the iconic Ritcher and Dracula scene.
Saturn has an improvement hack that makes it pretty good. The PSP and PS4 releases have a different playable Maria than the Saturn version, closer to her Rondo playstyle
Does the improvement hack fix the graphics scaling?
Restoration of translucency of many objects;
English translation of some elements;
Direct access to the global map;
Finalization of the global map;
Restoration of the original proportions of some sprites;
Removing horizontal black bars of the screen;
Skipping videos and dialogues;
Access to Richter’s alternate costume;
Reduced loading time;
Support for 4MB expansion card;
Added a HARD MODE;
Bug fixes
Main features ^
Played and finished 200.6% on Mister PSX core. First time playing through and no issues. Game was superb.
Staying up late tonight.
What are the advantages of the PSX Doom hack over PC Doom hacks that use the PSX CDDA tracks?
It’s on PS1
Dr4gonBlitz makes me think "What if Trey Parker had become a Castlevania speedrunner instead?"
Im not sure what to think lol
Im sure he can play SOTN better than me I guess
What I do remember is the Castlevania fanbase generally having a bone to pick with him in the 2000s. I can specifically remember photoshopping his then clean shaven face/head onto the Haunted Castle US flyer's cheesey dracula. An artifact sadly lost to time.
I know that, I think we have crossed wires due to differing nomenclature here
Oh okay, I get it.
hadnt heard of him until recently, i dont really follow speedrunning though
imagine jumping through so many hoops when you just could play it on PS1
couldn't be me
Dust off your PSP, that port has more content. Also on PS4/5.
ew gross, baby screen for tiny babies
You have a portable PS4? Somebody notify benheck
@bronze pulsar is the Saturn patch done? All that you wrote sounds pretty awesome.
AFAIK its done, but you never know. Its unlikely a full english translation is forthcoming, but since I dont need that Im good
how come you don't need that
Im fluent enough to not to, I always think stuff should be translated so more people can enjoy it though
🧐
sounds like a disadvantage to me lol
So any easy way to mod 7.5v to ps1 snac?
Thinking of hollowing out ps1 slim and using a dc adapter as like v2 of my snac mod
Beat R4 with the Jogcon and it was super fun
Do you prefer the jogcon or the negcon for R4?
i havent played with the NeGcon in a while, planning on running it back with that in the next few days
I think negcon is probably more intuitive/easier to drive really well
jogcon is easier / feels cooler to do sick drifts on, but a little harder to be super consistent with
i think if you turn off force feedback it probably makes jogcon a good bit easier
Ah, i see thank you very much. I’m tempted to get one jogcon that’s why and I love the negcon a lot.
i think if you put enough hours into the jogcon it might have a higher skill ceiling
force feedback is literally giving you more data to act on than any other control method
That’s why I wanted one jogcon actually lol because of the force feedback it seems great on such a tiny controller
My son woke up today and asked if he could play Parappa.
“Son, why do you taunt me so. You know this is a Vib Ribbon household.”
I got my kinds into Parappa thanks to Friday Night Funkin
i fired up driver on ps1 and the damn resolution keeps switching from 480i to 240p or some shit and in between the intro movie and title screen and the game it keeps blanking out with vrr on. i thought the core was able to lock that in
i don't know, i had the settings for hblank and vblank on
try "Sync 480i for HDMI"
There’s a black transition option and sync 480i djfjfkeodkdj he beat me
i'm pretty dang sure i had that on
i'll check again a lil later unless robby runs sotn once and then checks it first
i never tried with vrr, but normal vsync adjust 2 with that on should be fine. it uses 240p timings for 480i content
@serene nebula never answered my question about his fastest intro stage completion time
No way @bitter lintel is actually playing something! 🤔
well, he picked driver, so he will not play it for longer anyway...
I actually loved to play Driver back in the day with cheats on
what if i told you i'm watching a football match right now.....but my left hand actually was scratching my noble parts. you kinda hit a bullseye there vampier. BUT IT'S JUST AN ITCH!
now you've learned from your mistake and you will not mention it again
Oh, did mean plebeian soccer type football? Sorry..
Listen, I don’t want to flex in public. People need to feel like they have a fighting chance. I don’t want to take that away from him.
Spill, darling
Does clipping out of the stage on the first Japanese release when trying to show a friend how awesome the game is count as an intro stage completion?
Only if you call the director "Iga-sama"
I swear I had a weird buggy release. Clipped out of the intro stage and Richter’s flame whip item crash just didn’t work.
robby, fire up driver on your cx with vrr and see if you lose sync. it's an order
I’m not home! 😢
Gonna start calling you Bobert if you dont reveal that intro stage complete time
I don’t want you to be misled, sorry if I contributed to that. I have no record, BasketSnake just made that up and I went with the gag.
Oh, okay. But that was you playing green hill zone in SOTN?
Nope, was it a mod I linked?
The SotN jokes is that people just gravitate to that game with the PSX core. I get it, I did too, but so many people were like “I’m excited to play SotN” that it became a server meme and @bitter lintel ridiculed it. I joined in along with him because (a) he’s right and (b) it’s hilarious. So the joke evolved into doing “testing runs” for SotN because people were also heavily testing the core. And that’s where we’re at.
Is that the one where they butchered Mick Gordan's music?
Mick is a great guy and incredibly talented. It’s an unfortunate situation. He didn’t deliver the music in-time and due to legal requirements they had to release the promised soundtrack included in the CE.
Someone else did the mix (who is also very talented but is not Mick) and the situation just fell apart after that unfortunately.
i actually completed driver back in the day without cheats or anything
the last level was absolutely mental i swear they meant it to be impossible
@abstract drift which one was better Driver or Driver 2?
driver
driver2 got way too ambitious for the hardware
also, in either case probably a good one for turbo etc
framerate was atrocious
just like the n64 is now good....since it's on mister.
or so people try to claim
Try it on a CRT : )
Why would you run it through an OSSC if it’s going to a CRT TV
I don’t know why you say I thought wrong for suggesting it on a CRT… where it won’t drop signal
thats all only true in vsync2 mode
if you just enable vsync1 or 0 you'll get completely seamless transitions
no more lag than retrotink adds to do the same thing
the best you can do though is vsync2, sync 480i for hdmi, and have a tv that wont mind any of that
then you get instant transitions as good as ps1digital can do on a real console, and no lag either
Seems like this might be a problem that carries over to the N64 core as well
Hope that doesnt cause problems with scanline filters
ehh.. proper? I dunno.. I wouldnt complain if it was an option for some games though
nerds. why aren't you playing nintendo games instead?
I keep trying to get these plebs to play more NES. But they wont shut up about their polygons and shit
I love the NES, I think that’s the furthest back I can go to have an enjoyable gaming session
Colecovision has a few neat things on it. That controller though
Player: Dawn
Difficulty: Hard
Endymion Mk.II
It's been 10 years since I've played Einhänder, and it's still one of my favorite shooters of all-time along with R-Type Delta. The graphics are incredible for the PS1 era, and the music is top notch, thanks to the awesome composer Kenichiro Fukui. Square has done an exceptional job for making this...
That other video had the jaggies smoothed out, this is better
Einhander is amazing
Cyberpunk shumps ftw
One of the games I actually had in the 90s, such great atmosphere and music
Perfect edgy teenager stuff, as all PSX stuff should be
That OST is gold
mmhmmm
Japanese cover so much better.
Also really cool you have the OST!
it is. I have a rip 😛
Better get it slabbed
If I can get a FLAC rip of the CD's I buy I try to keep them sealed
Makes sense
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5s76MJhy8B4&t=109s
I prefer unfiltered. Great soundtrack though. Toaplan OSTs shined on the Genesis generally speaking.
Hardware recording from a Sega Genesis Model 1 VA7 (ASIC YM3438) with the Mega Amp 2.0 mod.

Zero Wing was originally just a training game in the Toaplan offices used to help employees familiarize themselves with hardware. It just eventually got polished up and released.
It’s not very good IMHO
There is nothing humble about your opinion, good sir
the option has no speed, it forces 480i/576i to use 240p/288p timings, so there is not even a switch. If you still get a drop, it's from the changed horizontal resolution which uses a different pixel clock. It works fine here on my LCD display in vsync adjust 2. Tested mainly with chrono cross inventory. But yes, maybe it depends on the display. From what i heard it should also be fine on e.g. the LG OLEDs
using vsync adjust 1 however isn't that bad for lag either. You get on average 0.5 frames or 8 ms. But keep in mind that a 30fps game has 33ms anyway, so the difference is not that big. I use vsync adjust 0 only, because i can't tolerate drop outs on savestate load and those will happen on 1/2
because you use it for testing a lot i guess
this, and for cheating 😅
but then you didn't experience the game as it was meant to
rabble rabble rabble they tooooook rrrr jeeeeeeeeeerbbbbb
could be, but some games are just annoying. If there is a difficult section, i see no reason to play the 5 minutes before since saving to memcard again and again
Disc 2, finally!!!! 🙏
Mofucka it’s been a week!
Several months playing this shit. 96 hours until Disc 2 hell yeah!
Amazing game!
Talk about getting yo moneys wurth!
My man has this view and he’s just playing PS1 RPGs?!?
The RPG is outside your window!!
Holy shit, @tacit fox is the main hero of Final Fantasy 23 and he don’t even know it.
You’re training I get it, mad respect.
When you come to my village for a side quest I’ll give you a discount.
Inspector Robby ovah here! lol but wait is that a castle back there ?
That’s what I’m saying! Dude likes in like Sarahsala Kingdom.
I can see Hyrule’s castle from here yeah
He’s the grand vicar of the royal throne
Tomorrow he’s got materia fencing practice before he goes on an excursion in his airship
Unfortunately no chocobos in DQVII
Dang.. Lol
dear god lol congrats
It sure is. The only game I like more is earthbound.
Basically guitar hero without the buttons and bring your own guitar like thing
Also got the larger button controller and densha go
Also Quest for Fame seems to have some garbage when showing some company's logo. Other videos I've seen don't have it
Issue occurs only in 24 bit
Strange thing with 24 bit is it does not end at the center
Ordered a 32MB sd ram but now it's TRACKED
we might get an answer to the MiStery soon
X for doubt
So since the core can set controller as negcon, what's the best non snac for it?
a steering wheel
gorgeous oled but which game is it?
the honey, can we rearrange the tv to be not parallel with the windows?-waiting game
Dragon Warrior/Quest VII
And my two years old boy can’t keep away from that screen as you can see it lol
i'm under the impression dq 7 is a loooooong game and pretty drawn out
It’s long. And I’m also a slow player. I took 100 hours to get at the end of CD1 lol
jesus
i've got 7 and 8 on my 3ds with the ps2 soundtracks modded in. never played them
at least the ps2 soundtrack is for 8. i have some orchestral version ost for 7 too though
I think I will play DQ8 on PCSX2 on my Series S after I’m finished with this one
i will take that series S away from you and LOCK YOU OUT from using any third party software on it
I’m no expert but I think people suggest to play it on the 3DS because of the streamlining of the intro
if you were an expert of anything, doom eternal would be some kind of good
yet here we are...with a disneyland ride
i swear ... the joke is gonna be even funnier ten years from now when it's beaten to the core of the planet and dragged back out again
robby, come back. i didn't mean it
@bitter lintel LOLOL I missed the joke, just saw it now
Damn I walked into that one lol
@tropic stratus I have opened a new issue but only curiosity, the game does not matter to me at all.
Probably cd related
#psx-chat message
old issue, I don't even remember if it was resolved
works with 8mb
I don't know, i don't have real psx with this game to test it
@upper forge starts here
#psx-chat message
I don't remember much about this case , I know it worked with 8mb
it only works in pcsx because of a memory leak bug
but it works on hardware, we never found why
thanks 😄
I'm surprised that you still remember all this while working on various things
the game asks the CD to copy data to ram and if you copy it, it crashes. pcsx does not crash because it copies to some unknown place (could crash the emu or do other random things)
no idea why the requested data copy doesn't happen on real hardware
if you want, you can keep the issue open, but i doubt anyone will invest the time to research what special thing happens in the CD part just for this game, especially with the 8MByte workaround
(i even wrote a DMA test in assembler to verify that the copy process is correct, but the DMA part is, problem is likely on CD side)
i think it's not useful to summon him without telling the whole story and knowledge before
there was quite a bit of research on this game in june last year
e.g. that all known rips of the game have corrupt sectors. Could also have an influence
Do we have an ETA on when YC will be in the main PSX core release? The yc branch continues to work fine, just curious.
hmm? it is already, is it not?
oh, you are right, only the 2x core release has it
i can do it the next days
guys, anyone managed to run Masters of Doom - GEC - Besta V4, on psx core? I tested it on all official releases and nothing works, I know it's a Hack but it's pretty cool.
PlayStation Doom: Master Edition. DoomWiki page by @Dark Pulse Finally, Beta 4 is released NEWS: Fourth Beta Release PSXDOOM BETA 4 [11/16/2022]. I downloaded it several times and it didn't run, it was freezing on loading, I already reset the settings, all other games work normally on the psx core
Yes, I'm playing final doom, only masters of doom that doesn't work and presents an unknown region message and automatically is set to us
I tried chd, but it didn't work,If you can, could you try to send it via PM so I can test it here?
Very strange, I will try it on my other mister that is not up to date.
Thanks to @upper forge,The chd worked.
best under rated psx games to check out?
Return Fire was fun two player
Koudelka (Japanese: クーデルカ, Hepburn: Kūderuka) is a role-playing video game developed by Sacnoth for the PlayStation. The game was published by SNK in Japan in 1999, and by Infogrames internationally in 2000. Set in the haunted Nemeton Monastery in Wales, the plot follows protagonists Koudelka Iasant, Edward Plunkett and Bishop James O'Flaherty a...
Panzer Bandit is one of my personal favorites on the PS1
Silent bomber
So I bought a broken PS1 slim and will hollow it for SNAC
Hopefully I can hack off the av port area and keep things flush
Yoyo's Puzzle Park aka Gussun Paradise.
with regards to composite sync, I can just use the original adapter for guncon right instead of the one from SNAC? I use HDMI->Downscaler->Component->CRT
I didn't have issues with guncon 2
Motorhead
The King's Field series and Shadow Tower. You're not a true FromSoftware fan until you've played them.
But seriously, they are worth a look for many reasons, even if the first few titles look a bit primitive.
good recommendation for sadists, lol
I love From software and yes good games but difficult and gameplay that has not aged well I recommend King's field IV on PS2 e o Shadow Tower Abyss
My wish is a sekiro 2 and that From software revisit the classics and remake them with their mind and experience today
the first one, the japan only one, I thought wasn't that bad until like the last floor. But they have this sense of exploration and progression that the souls games also have, just in a much clunkier package. If you can stomach the controls, I think they are fun to explore around it. Beating them is pretty challenging though
King's Field 4 on PS2 is like taking the "lol you're dead" thing to the next level, it really throws everything at you from moment 1. Shadow Tower Abyss is an amazing game, I'm really sad we never got it officially released outside Japan
if you want some old from software thats not really stupid hard, the echo night series is good
more of a explorer/puzzler game, no combat to speak of
Finally found some NPC that was actually having some fun 😏
Got my beatmania controller. Dont really like the games but it came with nyan to wonderful
DESCRIPTION
Nyan to Wonderful is a Strategy game, published by Banpresto, which was released in Japan in 1996.
Yes, I think it's one of those rare examples, where the sequels really did keep getting better right up to the final instalment.
Is pin8 of controllers used by anything?
Thinking of just wiring the snac to the exposed pins of the memory cards (missing pin8)
Although problem is the ps1 slim has bad rusting or leak damage
sites say almost always never used
The picture above is for PS2, which omits a pin. Off the top of my head I think that's the pin that is really only used in some lightguns.
so in theory guncon 1 is fine?
since that's the only gun I own
although I would probably just use guncon 2
I know I found a page that has all the pinouts, I'll see if I can find it
i mean worst case, I'll just solder under the ps1 slim, which has all 10 pins
although the sides have weird leak/color
ah but no specifics oh well
I'll probably will just have to solder under
I mean I would be hacking off most of the mobo
and throwing away the heatsink
and gluing the cd lid
just for a nicer looking snac with memory ports
Are you turning the PSone into a whole MiSTer enclosure, or just a SNAC adapter?
snac adapter
it's a really cheap broken ps1 slim
like insides look really bad
at least tested it would work by using a replacement ps1 front port
bought a rotary tool just to hack it
We’ll share your progress, I think it’s cool to have a PSOne being a whole a SNAC adapter
There are no unused pins on psx. That pin is normally used for justifier type guns, but it's also used for sync for guncon1 in the core. you can get sync elsewhere though.
32 mb sd ram will be received tomorrow
Hell yeah! Finally!
tomorrow we will rule out whether it was the ram all along or if it's the FPGA despite two totally different setups having led to the same glitches
This is very helpful!
Looking forward to the test results! Let's make this channel great again! 🙃
Anyone used a madcatz multitap on the psxcore via snac?
Got one. On the bios and on games without multitap support, it works fine. Can use the controller and the mc. But games with multtap support it's not working. I don't have a real ps1 console to try it.
Yeah. An oficial sony multitap works. The madcatz one does not :/
maybe it really needs 7v?
do all multitap games not work with madcatz tap or just the ones that use the tap in port 2?
maybe try a port 1 multitap game, and don't have anything else in port 2 of snax(I'm guessing that's what you're testing)
So someone said NeGCon mode works best with steering wheels. Does it only work with specific brands/models?
I have a shitty wheel that I was gifted that works on the switch and pc
Tested with two games (CTR and Micromachines). Only snax port 1 connected. original tap works on both games, mad catz does not.
ok thanks for letting me know, I only tested original tap. I think someone else had a madcatz one, maybe I can remember who that was and have them test also.
Thanks. I'm going to try it with more games on the weekend
This laugh from that game lives rent free in my mind

Call Me Queen! that was translated as whiplash spin bleh
and she got nakeder and nakeder as the series progressed
i'm feeling fomo on pop'n music controllers
worst part, I don't have any controllers that could take its place on an emulator
all I remember is this guy with a pig and the the "angel" girl
and of course the big tit ninja that summons meteors
The proper arcadebuttons are available and getting a random controller playing mcu for the target should not be a provlem in 2023
I guess you could make one
no 32mb sd ram today, will probably get it tomorrow
Welp ordered the popn music controller fomo is real y'all
HAW HAW HAW
Welcome!
I didn’t want to nudge you to do it but I’m glad you did lol
Same one with box
The yellow looked kinda ugly
Still resisting the tambourine
Hell yeah, brother!
Tbh it's bad at high level on later pop'n music games but on ps1 games it's ok for the fun
Apologies if this is the wrong place to ask, but how do I set up my saves or memory cards so that if I clear Armored Core, I can import my mechs into Project Phantasma and so on? Would this work by simply mounting the AC1 save onto the second virtual slot before booting up Phantasma?
Also, is there a way to set up a virtual 15-block card instead of having an individual card for each game (as I think it works by default)?
You can either place the bin/cue or chd files for the games you want to share a mem card into the same folder, or manually mount the other games card each time, or mount both games mem card manually and use psx bios to copy saves over
Nice one, thanks very much! The first option would work nicely for the AC series
Could just manually mount one card and use it for all games, just it'll fill up quickly
If I put all my bin/cues in the 'games/psx' folder instead of in individual subfolders, would they then all share a mem card?
Yep
Ace, thanks
The auto mount uses the name of the folder the game is within
And creates /saves/psx/<foldername>.sav
This is great, cheers! In that case would it be a dumb idea to group my games into folders of 10-15 (depending on how many memory card blocks they use)?
Just so I can have full cards instead of millions of individual blocks
Like the later games are bad or at high difficulty it’s bad?
The mem cards are 128kb each so no real need, other than the games that have functionality when they see a different game's save file
You can always copy saves between virtual mem cards via bios if you want to merge them later for any reason
But no harm in doing it if you want to see a bunch of save icons all together 🙂
like that controller wont hold up at high difficulty
Ah cool - how do I access the bios? Sorry for all the quizzing!
Start the core and don't load a game, like turning on a psx with no disc inserted or disc door open
Ohhh right, of course! I always load a CD as soon as I can so I completely forgot about that
You can go to load cd, then hold b + press a to unmount the current game image, then reset the core too
Oh yeah, not an issue for me lolol
I jumped right into 9 buttons and I was like woah woah woah I bite off more than I could chew here lol
I’m in little baby 5 button land
Starting with the ps2 games the skill ceiling goes through the roof
have you ever watched a vid of someone doing a hard song Robby?
Yea I started with 5 buttons as well, but once I got an arcade style controller I did 9 only
Nope!
I imagine it’s like playing a massive piano haha
And NP with queries around here, there's always folks happy to help 🙂
@shut escarp wow! Really impressive the perfect rhythm and quick reflexes.

I used to be a glove player but forgot to take them with me in Japan, and got used to play without them by now
Are games that generate the E# codes still on the most recent release being tracked anywhere? Should I submit a report if a game does not appear to have any obvious issues, but still generates a code?
probably not worth it if it doesn't cause any obvious issues, some of the E-codes are basically speculative, rob wasn't sure if games would trip them or it would matter or not
the errors are just a heuristic, not the total truth that there is some error. Some codes show only the game does something weird and some games do something weird. If you don't notice any problems, it's not worth to report it. That is also the reason it's off by default: there are currently far more games that report false positives than real errors
Thanks for the detailed explanation.

This was my old snac. Too cheap to buy a custom from that guy
Here is my current
Yes i am a monster. It also lights on when connected
heh thats fun
Someone on another discord was like no! Why do that for a device that might not exist after 10 years
didn't you build it out of a dead psone?
i mean, tbh who cares, they sold like a hundred million playstations or something
Yeah. It was weird of someone to gatekeep like that
Like really crusty looking modded ps1
Like acid leaked everywhere
That the bottom was stained 90% brown
PSIO firmware going open source is great news
but to be fair I'm no longer using my xstation nor psio since using the psx core
Wow it took that long
(it was hacked)
hey guys! a tech-savvy user here, but never used CHDs. wanna free some space up on my SD card.
- is there anything particular that I need to know to convert my redumps?
- are there any problems with using CHDs+ps core at all?
thanks!
also, found this thing, it's cool!
https://github.com/umageddon/namDHC
(but if you know of other guis for windows, I'd love to know as well :))
Stop gate keeping gate keepers!
no no let him give them a taste of their own medicine
From my experience at least, I've had no issues with using the CHD format using the PS1 core.
From what I understand the main issue is that there might be minor differences with how games load, since the CHD file needs to be decompressed. But I haven't noticed anything egregious from any of the games I tried, since games will just inherently load faster from an SD or USB regardless.
Thanks! Right now, my Tekken 3 chd does not load for me correctly at all, but I'm going to recompress it and try again. A number of others worked fine.
Does it slow the load times for you? Should it, theoretically?
Tekken 3 works perfectly for me in CHD format so if re-compressing doesn’t work you have a bad dump.
As for load times, there’s a CHD compression method that’s better for that. I forget which it is, I think cdzla?
load times end up basically the same, you spend some cpu time but you win some IO time and its a wash overall
if you're using very high (dangerous) speeds like 8x on the psx core, then bin has a slight edge there
I typically use the Force 2× CD Speed and CD Fast Seek settings just for convenience. Seems to be a nice sweetspot in general.
yeah at those speeds it should be no different
Ah yeah that’s what it was
Cdlz is the one that’s heavier on the cpu, someone did some tests and found that only using the other two gave them better performance at higher disk speeds
The difference in compression size is pretty negligible
I love you guys, thank you very much. Btw, check out that frontend, it's also nice. Amazing things that people can do with AutoHotkey, omg. 🙂
Btw, what other cores support CHDs? I was hoping for ao486... is there a list, maybe? 🙂
I've tried some previous versions of the frontend, it works correctly with 4-5 games to convert but fails when doing a whole fullset.
That's unfortunate but totally believable...
I've converted my whole collections, but you need to do it step by step.
The multihread possibility is amazing though, doing 8-10 files at the same time.
I've tried with PCE CD-ROM², Neo Geo CD, Sega CD & PS1 on the MiSTer system so far.
I think every disc based core supports it, only one that doesn’t right now is the Saturn core but that’s WIP
I don’t use the front end, just wrote a bat file that handles recursive, dropped it my folder with disc images and it goes to town. Never an issue.
That was the final idea I've done, letting a recursive script doing all the job too.
speaking of chd, the core doesn't seem to be handling them correctly when you use one for generating monsters in monster rancher 2
all it should be looking at is the minutes & seconds of the total cd length, 2nd track, and last track, in order to generate the main/sub monster type and stats
works perfectly using the original .cue/bin but converting to chd it only seems to be getting the main type
Mm, Einhander has so many polygonal jaggies. Anti aliasing is truly a fools game
thanks for the heads up, loved this game when i was a kid
do single bin and cue games not work in the core?
they do. there's one bug that one day I will remember to send the PR for
try to run the tetris grand master ZN-2 conversion from arcade, and it doesnt boot past the initial PSX bios screen
yeah, that's the bug. chd will work
drats. was hoping to do that for the next game challenge, but its a bit extreme asking folks to not only patch the arcade game but also learn to convert to CHD afterwards
maybe it would be a good teaching experience for folks who want to save some SD card space, with all the CD systems now on MiSTer or coming soon..
converting to CHD is easier than patching a game once you have the right bat file
for /r %%i in (*.cue, *.iso, *.gdi) do chdman createcd -c cdzl,cdfl -i "%%i" -o "%%~ni.chd"
yeah its super easy. i posted the full rundown in #game-challenge
We're doing Tetris The Grand Master arcade to PS1 conversion for the next challenge, if anyone wants to join in!
I submitted the PR anyways, you can't stop me
hahaha bring it! 😜
although I am thinking of taking it back after seeing this is a score challenge
I quite like the idea of folks figuring out how to downsize their CD sizes through the challenge. Maybe I'll finally run through the Mega CD library and get everything chd finally..
the time results didnt make sense to me when i tried it. any insight on how that works?
seemed the ranking is entirely based on score so it made sense to use that
it's ranked by grade, and by time taken to reach said grade
so the 'better' GM ranking is the lower time
the grades all have a score threshold, with GM requiring multiple level+score+time thresholds
Sticking with score instead. Less confusing for folks than the time-based formula, and will also be easier to understand and record the scoreboard
wow, didn't know tetris can be so complicated 🙂 Thank a lot @manic citrus for the fix!
So i have a cheap ass steering wheel that has analog pedals. I set negcon mode and pedals are digital only
I set them on mister menu for stick 1 down and stick 2 right
And typical way for negcon
Did i miss anything?
Pedals only work when fully pressed only. Windows reports full analog
I don't know of any other arcade to psx conversions.
does this one have quickdrop i wonder
that's leetspeek among tetris nerds
i've booted the game and i'm playing it but... no hard drop
https://harddrop.com/wiki/Tetris_The_Grand_Master it IS this game? it says it's got no hard drop
Oops, I forgot it’s only in like 2/3, my homies play way more TGm than I do

Tetris the Absolute: The Grand Master 2 is the second arcade game in Arika's Tetris: The Grand Master series. The Grand Master 2 introduced the less-intimidating Normal Mode to attract more casual gamers, as well as an ...
The Tetris the Grand Master series is basically Tetris retooled for expert players. Like you level up much quicker, which means the Tetriminos will quickly pick up speed until they eventually drop on a single frame.
You really need to master how the lock delay mechanics work to reach the higher levels.
seems that spinning a couple times just before pieces land will buy a little bit of extra time, when things ramp up to ridiculous speeds
That's because when you rotate on the ground, the Tetrimino is technically not on the ground for a few frames, so the window for the lock delay will be briefly stalled. Though it's not possible to permanently stall with this tactic, as the lock delay frame window is still decaying.
This is a deliberate mechanic across the Tetris series to give the player the option to delay the lock further than normal, like if they want to examine their board for example.
I noticed it used heavily in the "professional" demo that plays in this one
seems especially helpful when things get to insta-drop speeds
'rotating to buy time' is a thing in the tetris company guideline rule based games. you will invite pain if you try that in TGM

Idk what happened to the front art but this game does not have anything to do with it lol
It's a breakout clone on acid.
I tried the Japanese version of this but forgot the name. It's just a generic renaming so it would be more appealing to USA audiences when seen on a shelf. Definitely a crappy title, but they were trying to sell a genre that has not been trendy for a long time to a modern audience
Iirc it worked well with a mouse but support for that was stripped from the western releases for some reason
The problem is the art does NOT help sell it xD
It's ugly and completely unrepresentative of the game, but for a parent looking to get something for their kid it bears a striking resemblance to children's novels at the time. Just marketing faff aimed towards the goosebumps generation
Found it! The name was Prism Land Story in the original release, and it definitely only has mouse control in that version.. here's a video I recorded back when PSX was in beta:
NOTE - Mouse control in Japan release only! They stupidly removed this from the western releases. Neat game for Arkanoid/Breakout fans. Precise mouse control with two player co-op and Vs modes! I control both players in the 2P segments at the end.
The PlayStation core was created by FPGAzumSpass, whom previously brought us the GBA, Lynx ...
mouse control worked very well there. will definitely need to give this a try again with the jogcon in fake spinner mode also
eww they even used that "art" for the title screen in the usa version 🤮
oh it supported the namco volume controller also.. maybe i wont have to use the fake spinner mode for jogcon..
@meager parrot can you send me your wallpaper you had in that video
and psio is open source for those who care
who cares? 🙃
probably tomorrow, this week end and monday were non-working days in France
Geez
meanwhile I've been playing Time Gal
great game
wish we had better laser discs emulation
Probably means like a Daphne core or something along those lines
Which would be pretty awesome
why does #1056033525922537542 and #1046940919607345272 exactly the same conversation going on?
no of course not on the psx lol
it's a Sony
don't you guys think it's weird that MSX/PSX/MSXbox are all tributes to the MSX in the name?
it's because the MSX is more epic of a system than most think - just because you saw a crappy ZX spectrum port running on the MSX it doesn't make you an MSX expert
all I know of MSX is the first metal gear
and that I'm not spending thousands of $ on real hardware to play Time Gal on it since it's not very durable when it comes to vhd it seems
hey, quick question. should multi-cd games go in one folder? wanna finally play some ff7.
yes

Jap version supports the Namco Volume (negcon) too.
Can JogCon be used for games that support that? If so, in what mode?
Yes! With the adapter it will output as paddle and spinner at the same time. Core supports using a paddle as negcon. Select negcon mode inside core then rotate the paddle (jog) to both sides for the core to detect and use it. You can also use paddle mode on the adapter to limit it's rotation.
Jogcon can also be used directly via snac and booting by holding down the mode button. It will be in negcon mode. This mode is not the best one as it does not have the rotation limiter.
You are feeling ill and should leave work early
cool I'll try both ways with it. i didnt realize the namco paddle controller basically used the negcon mode. pretty neat!
⚠️ Testing the ram right now ⚠️
Clock Tower launched
✅ CONFIRMED : it was the ram all along, not the FPGA boards. Can't reproduce the issue with the 32 mb sd ram sticks.
now what I don't get is how two sticks of 128 mb sd ram sticks led to the same glitches, while always passing ram test, and nobody with 128 mb sd ram ever reproduced it. iirc chips were literally the same...
oh well I guess I'm good to buy 128 mb sd ram sticks again if I ever need to.
For anyone interested in this almost 5 months long adventure, here is a summary of the issue I had on two different FPGA boards with two different rams :
#1046940919607345272 message
What a journey of the never arriving ram it was 😅
wow finally figured it out. I think i called that since the problem started for you with a build that had a ram change. and you bought the ram at the same time from same seller iirc
and the friends you made along the way
yes it was a great adventure, to the point where I couldn't post here anymore without people asking on updates on the matter
indeed
Great that this case has been cleared up 👍🏻
Now put the old ram back in and see if it still does it
please no, of course it will lol
it seems to have fixed my random graphical issues with street fighter 2x as well
Where did you get your ram where you had issues?
Ahhh ok
the 128 mb sd ram chips were ALLIANCE chips labeled 2020 TWN, which differ from most people, so who knows
strange, i also have those 128mbyte modules
can't think of any reason why 99,99% of the time it works
however, the sdram controller change mentioned in the core was the access mode. The chip is kept on the same active page for several accesses, while before it was reopening the page for each access
either the page size is different for the chips you have, but i cannot imagine that being such a "minor" effect, or leaving the page open for longer doesn't work for some reason? no idea
wasn't there also some problem with one of jotegos cores and special sdram modules in the past?
there’s a problem with the Raizing core and SDRAM modules now 😢
Works fine here
then you have sdram that doesn't have the issue
Send me your SDRAM please lol 😢
https://github.com/MiSTer-devel/Arcade-Raizing_MiSTer/issues/17
did you try the guy's suggestion with the jumper near the fan ?
anyway, these sd ram issues are intriguing
I’ll try giving that a shot. I don’t have a fan though. Waving it away as SDRAM issue in that thread when literally everything else works correctly leads me to believe it’s a core timing problem and not the ram.
Which brings me back to @tropic stratus previous post. The issue with Jotego’s core in the past was bad timings on his end and not SDRAM issues.
even with 32 mb sd ram I can still get the glitches with street fighter 2x when launching the game quickly AND navigating to it through default menu
Too aggressive not allowing for any natural deviance. I think that was the problem?
if my MiSTer can run the PSX core without issues for hours on end, it’s not my SDRAM lol.
I know that isn’t a 1:1 comparison but it’s certainly a far more complex core that my build is handling fine.
the sdram design of psx IS on the edge. We drive it with 101mhz at CAS latency 2. Sorgs comment about it: "// 2 for < 100MHz, 3 for >100MHz"
it’s a credit to your skill, I rarely if ever hear about SDRAM related issues on the PSX core
but there is not much we can do about. We must compensate for our sdram being 16bit and not 32bit wide like in the real psx
so we are about 1% above spec for the sdram, but i doubt it's the reason
we could easily try by reducing the overall frequency of the whole core to e.g. 30mhz, so the sdram only runs at 90. if it works then, it's clear
but not today, good night 🙂
Buenos nachos! ( Spanish for goodnight )
おやすみなさい
The ram module creator is the glitch 🙃
Sorry for being lazy the last weeks, PSX and PSX2x release are now both up to date
Awesome, thank you! Do you have a link available for the 2X core?
So I guess any updates are finished for now?
Yep. Nothing to see here. Please move to the N64 channel, folks! 🙃
Sorry if this has been addressed already, but can't run TGM conversion anymore. Anyone have a clue?
Hm, what does that mean? 😄
Do I need to convert to chd?
I C ^^
@arctic trail chd is so awesome, really helps cut down on storage space with literally no downsides!
One downside
It’s him I’m rocking a 512GB sd card with literally every disc based game I could ever want.
Can't utilize it on original hardware with Xstation or MODE (yet?)
It was good while it lasted. I'm jumping on the n64 train
I can take bets that Robert will have a roughtly stable core allowing pokemon stadium with transfer pak support before Nintendo even does on their NSO emulation service
NSO never gonna have support for that lol
That would be my bet as well lol
i really should get a transfer pak... my old red/blue carts still have my saves
gotta get the mario golf chars unlocked
Had to clean the contacts with ipa and contact clearner though to get it perfectly working so beware
Worst case scenario scraping the contacts could be necessary
But yea lots of posts about transfer paks being finicky but it's mostly easily fixable. But that's something emulation fixes and hopefully we'll one day get it on mister
the one time I used one I remember it being a bit finnicky for sure. I have a mostly unused one I picked up recently when I bought a boxed copy of the original japanese stadium release, haven't tested it out yet though
from my understanding there's no region locking or anything for transfer paks, just the n64 game itself determines whether or not what you're inserting is the correct game
yes
just beware that pokemon stadium requires a pokemon gameboy cartridge of the same region
after cleaning my transfer pak I tried to play for a good half hour wiggling as much as I could the transfer pak from the controller, absolutely zero disconnection
weirdly enough when I came back from Japan I brought a pokemon black 2 (nintendo DS) cartridge and it would refuse to boot no matter what I did. Cleaning with IPA and a contact cleaner just made it barely readable, had to very lightly scrap the contacts to get it finally boot 100% of the time
convert to chd, but the single bin will be fixed next release of main
Yeah it worked, so all good now 🙂
Quick Q - I get a brief screen flicker during the boot sequence. Sony logo with white BG fades, PS logo with black BG appears, and then a real quick black frame flickers in. Is this expected (real hw?), normal behavior of the core, or something funky with my settings? Thanks!
It's "Buenas noches", actually XD
But your "buenos nachos" version is something I have noted and will use in the future
Lol glad somebody got the joke, feel free to use and spread it like a wild fire
see if you've got the black frame transition thing enabled
sorry i can't remember the exact name, it hides the single frame of garbage the scaler generates when swapping 480i/240p
So Guntu Western Front no hack for guncons right?
Like it's a shooter style game without gun support
ah so I guess the datacenter site I read was wrong. It said standard controller only
Thanks! Enabling Fixed VBlank did it!
Here’s an interesting PS1 game for y’all to check out - https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=OgpAEEsX_KI
It’s called ZigZagBall and it’s a weird miniature golf game.
the most recent build for 2x there is listed as March 4th. That's the same as the previous release. Was it updated with the same name?
Okay so I'm not the only one confused by that.
no, 4th march is the most current version. All changes after that are only cosmetic and don't change the functionality, so it doesn't matter, the build is still up to date
the non-2x version before was older
I wonder do you guys default to 2x core or do you use it if you really want a specific game?
I normally use the dual RAM build mainly for slightly more accurate audio, but I do sometimes experiment with the 2X CPU core if I want to try and squeeze out a stable 30FPS or 60FPS in certain games.
anyone happen to know if tales of destiny 2 is working? my version of it all of a sudden stopped booting (it's a dump of my personal copy, single bin so doesn't match redump, downloading a confirmed good dump right now to test)
though recently I had the same thing happen with Symphony of the Night, my own dump stopped booting, but got a redump verified version and it works fine
(also have made sure fastboot is not enabled, no "unstable" options)
are you running unstable main?
no, this is the official release (I also tried the 2x cpu version out of curiosity, same thing there)
I don't mean the core, I mean mister main. I suspect the answer is no if you have no idea what I mean
oh, no that's official as well, I haven't run the psx updater in a while (the one that updates to unstable main and grabs the latest psx core)
redump verified iso boots fine, strange
ran a diff on the files, redump 1st track is identical but shorter (makes sense) and track 2 of redump is just empty, so they're exactly the same
cue file also looks correct
ah well
put the cue file here. there were changes to single bin, and there was one in a very recent update to unstable main. so that's why I'm trying to figure out exactly what you are running
So stable mister is still the way to go right? for psx
I think people on Saturn are using the unstable
Actually the latest stable build also supports SEGA Saturn.
unstable is fine. there might be a bug with single bin cue files, which is what I'm trying to determine now
my cue is: FILE "disc1.bin" BINARY TRACK 01 MODE2/2352 INDEX 01 00:00:00 TRACK 02 AUDIO PREGAP 00:02:00 INDEX 01 49:49:25
I guess the only real difference there is the pregap (oh wait, looks like there is a pregap in the working, just under a different notation)
compared to the working: FILE "Tales of Destiny II (USA) (Disc 1) (Track 1).bin" BINARY TRACK 01 MODE2/2352 INDEX 01 00:00:00 FILE "Tales of Destiny II (USA) (Disc 1) (Track 2).bin" BINARY TRACK 02 AUDIO INDEX 00 00:00:00 INDEX 01 00:02:00
@distant lynx Hey flynn I found old thread in the psx-archive where you were converting avi's to SRT then using "buildcd" to iso them with psy-q. I'm starting down that road myself so I can attract mode some random simpsons episodes on the crt. Hows that chain holding up? I saw there is another SDK out there other than psy-q called psn00bsdk, as I know nothing and am just starting I wanted to ask you about it. Have you tried psn00bsdk and does it eliminate having virtual XP machine building the isos?
@pallid ibex I posted all my notes in here somewhere. I did not try psn00bsdk. I was using that XP Virtual machine that is mostly setup from psxdev, I had to make a small change to it for it to compile. Let me see if I can find my notes. My job has taken over my life right now. I will free up sometime in the summer.
@pallid ibex in case this helps... #1046940919607345272 message
Redump (bin/cue disc images produced from DiscImageCreator or redumper) doesn't use that PREGAP notation in cuesheets (the working one you posted matches Redump) http://redump.org/disc/2710/
That's awesome dude, understand how life happens sometimes 🙂 Will definitely dig through your notes. Thanks for thinking of others!
wish this game was less compressed on PS1. Wish one day we'll have proper laser disc games emulation
The MegaLD version is 240p rather than 480i too
The compression on STR is pretty heavy. Its not as bad as cinepak but its not great.
the one with PREGAP was my own personal dump, that worked fine up until just recently
oh really ? thought it was 480i, very interesting
I'm very curious as to how significant the difference would be
MegaLD (and I think also LDROM) are 240p due to some limitation. The arcade versions are 480i Im pretty sure but maybe someone more knowledgable can clear that detail up.
I've seen people stating that MegaLD was "arcade perfect" but it seems it's not, not even the same button sequences. In PSX version, you can choose which version you actually want to play
If arcade version only is 480i that makes it even more desirable but of course it's impossible to come across
Time Gal and Badlands are my favorite LD games
I need to check and see if the MSX Laserdisc port of Badlands is 240p
do you happen to have those ? I'm looking for a time gal copy on mega LD. But given that it's still 240p... I feel it's no longer that worth it but I still want it lol
I hope one day RF captures of those will allow gameplay on ODEs (I know of the daxter one) / emulators
Aww..
No idea how two Japanese Karaoke Laserdiscs from 1995 wind up smashed up on a sleepy side street in Scotland in 2023...
A real mystery
Im on the case ..
I've got the PSX snac adapter from https://misterfpga.co.uk/product/mister ... x-adapter/ and I can't get the composite port to work with my official gcun. Plugging in the RCA won't supply any sync at all. I've tried on multiple CRT's and always the same experience. Confirmed gun is working correctly and if using a CRT with component I can tap into the green rca and the gun works perfectly through snac but sync directly from crt. Obviously I can't do that on my preferred SCART Loewe CRT. All other PS1 controllers work through the snac, the composite port just won't deliver sync.
Has anyone else experienced this? Hopefully something simple I'm doing wrong.
Aw whereabouts in Scotland?
Edinburgh
?
there's a jumper on io board near user port that needs set to io6 or guncon won't sync.
spent a weekend there! drove in from Aberdeen. lovely city
did a PS2 480i capture from a GBS-C and was pretty impressed by how 480i looked like 480p
Oh, are there others in Edinburgh in the Discord?
oh no. Texan! just went to Aberdeen a lot for a while
but I do adore my highland cooo's. 🙂
that's a 90's emo version. 😄
I like the shag carpet ones 😄
prairie walrus in its natural habitat
There can be only one...
Just head toward all the monument made of every forgotten console
under the tallest tree
you will find moondandy
Balgreen, just at the edge of Murrayfield. I grew up in Corstorphine . What part of town you in?
Ah nice, where in Fife are you? All my family are from the East Neuk and around St Andrews
You doing OK? or you just mean Scotland/World in general gone to hell?
Oh yeah, prices are insane here
We do have a pretty good arcade bar on Lothian Road now btw if you haven't seen it
Cramond is nice, used to like walking along the coast there
NQ64, is a small chain opening spots in the UK. Nice selection of arcades, done up like it is something from Hackers or an early 90s film. Best part is it is open until 3am every night and has a bar, so good place to go in town after the pubs close
Oh yeah, it seems to do really well. It's quite bizarre, as it's always full of people in their teens and early 20s.
I think it does well at the weekends as it is next to that Club Tropicana place which has huge queues outside so people give up on that and try out the arcade bar instead. Took us awhile to figure out why an arcade bar was full of groups of attractive young women, but think that must be part of it.
It's bizarre, I assumed it would be just a bunch of beardly middle age men in there and some geeky guys but it's full of young people
I guess arcades have become trendy again because of Stranger Things etc. They all seem to love playing the old arcades though, so good to see
God, is that still around?
Last time I was in there was about a decade ago and looked at their collection of overpriced, faded Master System games and wish I hadn't bothered walking all the way down there and now had to walk all the way back up
That area is getting gentrified so quickly he if does he'll be quids in when he sells
Those would be some cold flats down by the shore as well
As trendy as people make Leith out to be, there are still Begbie characters kicking about
Oh yeah, and they wanted to make it even taller but were shut down, it will just be an eyesore
Y’all are Scottish?
Ach aye
You’re not Scottish
Thanks very much. Does it impact anything else?
Genesis - start,C. saturn. nes/snes 2p.
Lowered sensitivity on my cheapo wheel and games work well. Now to figure out how to make gas and brakes analog too
Can i use a wiimote-> guitar hero for guitar freaks?
Guess i can check later but so lazy
On some level, i kinda wanna buy those guitar hero live controllers
Since it is cheaper than the wii ones
Thankfully still have mine
Setting it up is a mess since wii controls overlap in weird places. Using the beatmania controller behaves wrong
Like beatmania is supported but only 1 line lights up
Might end up just emulating or buying the controller
Is there any way for 2 controllers to be used as 1 on this core?
don't think so
just ordered the latest 128 mb sd ram stick revisions, hopefully I won't have the same issues as the previous ones.
32 mb sd ram being unfortunately not enough for neo geo and saturn
Is v3.0 available anywhere?
So what exactly is the difference between the 2.9 and 3.0 revisions?
Post by Sorgelig » Sat Mar 04, 2023 5:17 am
SDRAM v3.0:
There are no functional changes. Added more grounds. If you already use v2.9, then no need to upgrade.
Okay so I can just ignore this.
yea ignore the update. I'm taking 3.0 ram from misterfpga.co.uk because my previous 128 mb sd ram doesn't work as intended
Anyone own a programpad? Does it really beep? On snac it doesnt
Unless beep = led blink
Anyone have any luck with GamePro Action Disc 1 (USA) or GamePro Action Disc 2 (USA)? Neither seem to work on the latest unstable PS1 core.
could be that some cheat CDs use special debug features of the the original CPU, which are not build into the core
there are no good tests for these things
The GamePro Action Disc is a demo disc that came with GamePro magazine. I dont believe its a cheat disc.
I think it just plays videos and maybe some demos
Definitely not a priority title, but wanted to mention it
GamePro Action Disc is listed as Unlicensed
I wonder what they did , that does not work 😛
No idea, I think it just plays FMVs. Either way, definitely not more important than an N64 core
yeah 🙂
My PSX core has stopped loading every game I’ve tried to open except Pepsi Man (JP). I’m not even posting this for troubleshooting just that’s as a Coke Zero enthusiast this seems targeted… 😤
Mike Butters is a local hero. Enjoy Pepsi Man with TV game!
That is super weird though.
Probably some sort of corruption. Trying replacing the core file with a fresh copy to see if it's the core itself either through update_all or manually, if not replace the game files with new copies.
Just an update on this: one of my two power adapters is apparently bad. I switched to the one I had hooked up to my little PVM and everything is fine again. I guess if it had to be a hardware issue at least its something cheap/easy to fix!
(Weird thing is that they're rated the same and the "bad" one runs fine on cores that draw less power)
Still oddly specific that the core wanted you to play Pepsiman.
Maybe the MiSTer is thirsty lol
Clearly Pepsi Man was trying to tell me the solution but I don't speak Pepsi. :c
So I got a jogcon clone for PS2. Any way to check if it identifies as a jogcon on PS1 via snac?
looks like a weird mix between a jogcon and a negcon
Ridge racer 4 should identify it as JogCon and show a graphic of the controller as you calibrate it in the settings, iirc
PEPSIMAN
Hopefully it acts like a better jogcon in negcon mode since it has the analog buttons
FAMILY REUNION
fancy, meanwhile I have their bastard brother
probably won't go NeGcon since I have a shitty wheel. I don't know if my brain can use the NeGCon correctly
Still part of the family!
I don’t have him so I think it’s awesome you do lol
Try wipeout with it, to me it makes sense in that game
Man tell us how that controller works, I’m so curious
I love r4 so much
And I didn't even grow up w it
So tempted to pick up a jogcon 😭
If you’re a big fan of the game it’s honestly worth it.
yeah I'm curious and hopeful that it's a jogcon clone
Seconding Robby. I got mine recently and played through R4 with it and it’s so much fun to drift with

@serene nebula, the xstation controller is a bastard as expected.
Mode 1 - ps1 controller
Mode 2 - dual shock
Mode 3 - negcon
It has vibration. Knob spins like 45 only
Too sensitive for some games
Not bad for $5
Wish it had mode 4 for jogcon
It literally has the jogcon's knob
if the knob only spins 45 that might not be enough
the jogcon one can spin forever
